STARTING THE ENGINE (cold, with thermostarter)

WARNING

The engine must be started exclusively from the driver’s seat. Before starting the engine, make sure that he safety lever is in the vertical LOCK position.

After completing the checks before start-up as detailed in the previous paragraph, proceed as follows:

• Check if brake switch, axle lock (1) position is in , signalled by warning light (2).

• Turn the starter switch key (3) to HEAT position and keep it in this position for 15 seconds.

• Set the starter switch key to position START to operate the start.

• Let the starter switch key (3) return to ON position as soon as the engine starts.

• If the engine does not start within 15 seconds, turn the starter switch key (3) to HEAT position and keep it in this position for 10 seconds. Repeat the above described operations to start the engine.

IMPORTANT: do not crank the engine for long. If the engine fails to start, return the starter switch key to the OFF position and wait at least 30 seconds before repeating the starting procedure.

NOTE: when the starter switch key is turned to HEAT position, it is normal that also low oil pressure, alternator and light warning lights are on, in addition to preheating warning light.
