3. Place new bearing on hub with thick side of inner race tow ard case and drive into place, using Tool J-9537 for light-duty axle and Tool J-8359 for heavy-duty axle. 4. Before bearing installation on opposite hub, support differential case on A dapter Plug J-8107-4. This allows differential case to rest on adapter instead of bearing cage (fig. 4A). Install remaining bearing as instructed in

Step 3.

1. Remove the ring gear screws and lock washers and, using a soft faced hammer, tap ring gear off the case.

NOTE: Do not attempt to pry ring gear from case, to do so may damage machined surfaces. 3.

2. Install guide pins, made from 3/8"-24 x 1-1/2" long cap 4. screws with heads cut off and ends slotted, to ring gear (fig. 5A). 5.

Position ring gear over pilot diameter of the case. Install every other ring gear bolt and lock washer, then draw them up evenly and snugly so that gear face is flush with face of case. Remove guide pins and install remaining bolts - torque all bolts to specifications. Install thrust washers and side gears in case. If same parts are used, replace in original sides. Position pinions and thrust washers through loading hole in case 180
