Fickle crowds must choose some time For most of a March Madness weekend, members of the underdog University of Maryland, Baltimore County, basketball team (who?) were the darlings of the sports nation for their record upset win over top-ranked Virginia in the NCAA tournament.But fame and favoritism with the crowd can be fleeting as history often has shown and UMBC found out when they lost their next game to Kansas State. One of the greatest examples remembered annually by Christians will be celebrated in churches this Sunday. Palm Sunday starts Holy Week whose events are at the heart of the Christian faith. They demonstrate the fickleness of the crowds and the emotional tests faced by believers as the popularity of their leader and his teaching flared briefly, nearly died out, but has grown with renewed

Inside the box, a variety of items each painstakingly identified with type-written labels, are kept. The label describes the item, who it belonged to or who it came from. The items in the box are memories from ‘The No Name Storm’ and relics that survived it. They were collected by Arline Erdrich, an artist who lived in Aripeka. She along with her coastal neighbors were deeply affected by The No Name Storm on March 13, 1993 which hit the area at high tide bringing an unexpected 10-12 foot storm surge. The cyclonic storm was never formally named like a typical hurricane because it occurred outside of hurricane season- it’s also referred to as “The Storm of the Century,” and wreaked havoc from Canada to the Honduras. Arline’s stilt home in Aripeka became a refuge for her neighbors during the storm’s terrible rampage and in the hours following the

The annual Leopard Slam Tournament took place last week at Tom Varn Park and an impressive lineup of teams took part in the Hernando-hosted tourney, with area teams like Bloomingdale, Dunedin, Springstead and Sunlake competing. After a long weekend slate of games, Springstead was able to reach the tournament final against Sunlake, whom is one of the top clubs in Pasco County. The team during the Leopard Slam tournament.
