The site inspection of the illegal structures at Nagoa-Arpora was called by the then sarpanch Agnelo D’Souza as per the demands of the residents of the area, as the occupant of the illegal structure has been discharging their waste in the paddy fields and surrounding areas. The over 200 residents also signed a memorandum demanding immediate action on eight other illegal structures, which have cropped up after serving a demolition notice for a single

structure and stoppage of dirty waste in the paddy fields posing a threat to lives of the villagers. Former sarpanch and panchayat members assured the villagers to back them to the hilt to oversee the demolition of the illegal structures. Lobo assured to help the villagers with the required lawyer to pursue the case of demolitions. A large Anjuna Police force was present to avoid any untoward incident. When contacted, Health Officer Dr Sachin Govekar said: “I was asked to report immediately by the Director of Health Services for some urgent work with the health minister in connection with new PHC at Calangute.” Dr Govekar further said he had informed that he would not be able to carry out the inspection and denied any political interference. GOA

Lovely, smiling people gathered as a community to celebrate the feast of St John Bosco on January 31. The main celebrant Fr Ian Figueiredo, the Provincial, gave a touching homily, with stirring words. His words emerged from the deepest recesses of his being. Don Bosco, a giant mind, a massive intelligent, a most lovable person went to devote himself to the lives of youngsters, the street children and others. There were occasions he was considered insane, just the way Jesus Christ too was considered even by his own relatives. Don Bosco believed in freedom, the freedom to live happy and productive lives, a gift most children are born with. His frown was an event, his smile

a happening, his concern obvious to the needy boys. His heartbeat pulsed. Others joined him, drawn by his magnetism and the way of life. The youth now had a model. Otherwise, they were growing up to be nobodies. The joy of Lord’s exquisite gift to Don Bosco, illuminated his whole being and warmed those around him with the glow. For a life like Don Bosco’s, there is not a period big enough to end. The Salesian family grows and grows with multitude institutions around the globe. The cultural programme that followed was a huge success. Many hands went into the effort. Zareena Fernandes and the rest were awesome. They all gave what they could! Austin Paes was excellent with his singing and dancing.
