Spears, Hilton reunite at Hollywood Party

F

ormer party pals Britney Spears and Paris Hilton unexpectedly reunited after turning up as guests to a Hollywood dinner party. The Toxic hitmaker cut wildchild Hilton out of her life in 2008 after suffering a headline-grabbing breakdown which saw her lose custody of her two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline and being placed under her father’s conservatorship. Spears has since cleaned up her act and has been working on resurrecting her pop career, while Hilton has found herself in trouble with the law on numerous occasions last year for drug possession. But the two blondes smiled and posed for the cameras at the Thursday’s event after coming face-to-face at Palihouse private diners club for a mutual friend’s birthday party, which Spears attended along with boyfriend Jason Trawick. “Britney was shy with most of the people there. But she and Paris hugged and talked for a while,” said an eyewitness.

Matt Damon’s Alter Ego Mike Smiley protects his Privacy

I

n a bid to protect his privacy, Hollywood actor Matt Damon has invented a “boring” alter ego for himself named Mike Smiley. The 40-year-old actor said that his former girlfriend, actress Minnie Driver, advised him to make people think that he is bland and quiet when he first shot to fame to reduce the interest in his personal life. “Whenever I did interviews, I pretended to be this other guy, Mike Smiley. So this boring, smiley guy Mike would turn up and do my interviews for me, which let me get on with my life,” the Bourne Identity star said. Speaking about his co-star Angelina Jolie in The Good Shepherd, Damon said he is relieved that he does not attract much attention like her. “You always knew which days Angelina was working because there were 40 cameras outside. Eventually they moved her trailer to keep her away from the paparazzi. “But when I’d walk back and forth, the paps were like lions that had already been fed – so they’d just look at me. Maybe there’d be one camera flash as one guy took a picture without really looking,” Damon added.

Bollywood’s Thriving Thirties

F

or Bollywood divas today, turning 30 no longer means pack-up time. The age lines are presently vanishing with girls thriving in their 30s. One good example is Kareena Kapoor. Despite entering into her 30s, the actress has a very busy schedule till at least 2012 as she has been signed up opposite practically all the Khans of the Indian film indurstry. Her upcoming projects comprise Ra One opposite Shah Rukh Khan, Agent Vinod with beau Saif Ali Khan, My Love Story with Salman Khan, Short-Term Shaadi with Imran Khan and Reema Kagti’s untitled thriller opposite Aamir Khan. The list also includes Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan. The duo plays leading ladies in No One Killed Jessica. Rani will also be seen in Kagti’s untitled thriller along with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Vidya Balan on the other hand will be seen in Ekta Kapoor’s The Dirty Picture and Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahani.

New Device promises Noiseless Dental Drill

A Fat Tummy could shrink your Brain

A

new study by researchers in the US has revealed that having a larger waistline could shrivel your brain. Obesity is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, which is linked to cognitive impairment, says Antonio Convit at the New York University School of Medicine. Convit wanted to see what impact obesity had on the physical structure of the brain. As part of the study, he used magnetic resonance imaging to compare the brains of 44 obese individuals with those of 19 lean people of similar age and background. He discovered that obese people had more water in the amygdala – a part of the brain involved in eating behaviour. He also saw smaller orbitofrontal cortices in obese people, important for impulse control and also involved in feeding behaviour. “It could mean that there are less neurons, or that those neurons are shrunken,” added Convit.

A

n innovative device which cancels the noise of the dental drill could ease anxiety about visits to the dentist. The sound of the dental drill is known to be the prime cause of anxiety about dental treatment. Developed by experts at King’s College London, Brunel University and London South Bank University, the prototype works in a similar way to noise-cancelling headphones but it is designed to deal with the very high pitch of the dental drill. The patients can hear the dentist and other members of the dental team speaking to them but other unwanted sounds are filtered out by the device, according to a King’s College statement. The device was initially the brainchild of Brian Millar at King’s College London’s Dental Institute who was inspired by carmaker Lotus’ efforts to develop a system that removed unpleasant road noise. With over a decade of collaboration with engineering researchers at Brunel and South Bank Universities, a prototype has been designed, built and successfully evaluated.

Now, a Dating Website for Fat People!

A

first-of-its-kind dating website for people “larger than life” has come up in Britain, that also says slim people “need not apply”. Around 1,000 people flocked to the website FunPie.co.uk in the first 12 hours of its opening in the first week of January. The self-confessed dating site for ‘large folk’ invited people with natural curves to join up to share some big love. The dating agency is the brainchild of dating entrepreneur Howard James, creator of The Ugly Bug Ball - the world’s first dating site for the “aesthetically challenged”. James said the site was designed to offer Britain’s estimated 12 million overweight men and women a ‘much-needed’ service. “Most dating sites seem to show people who are skinny models but there is a huge proportion of the population that is fabulously flabby,” he said. “There are precious few resources for them to find love with other overweight people,” James added. A member named Lisa Lawler, from London, said: “The site has been a Editor –in-chief: R F Fernandes. Editor: Ashwin Tombat. Chief Editor-Features: Christina Viegas.

real helping hand for me, I’ve finally been given the chance to embrace my curves and get back on the dating ladder.” Another member named Trevor, from Leeds, is one of the heaviest people in the dating site and weighs 178 kg. Courtesy: Agencies
