Since its creation, August has been the favourite month of Sotograndinos. Endless days of sun, beach, afternoons at the pool, gymkhanas... And so SUMMERS IN THE RESORT HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A TIME TO SPEND WITH THE FAMILY, to enjoy and treasure great memories. Many of them were captured by the camera of the wonderful Doro Plana, and today form part of the historical archive of Sotogrande. otogrande ofrece innumerables opciones para convertir cualquier jornada veraniega en irrepetible. En clave familiar, deportiva, gastronómica..., hay planes para todos los gustos.

La mejor manera de comenzar el día en la urbanización será con un paseo por sus incontables avenidas, impresionantes calles al más puro estilo californiano, salpicadas, a cada paso, por paradisiacas palmeras y lujosas villas.

La mañana será el momento perfecto para darse un buen baño en la playa de los Catamaranes para, cuando llegue la hora del aperitivo, cruzar en el barco-taxi (el servicio es gratuito) hasta el Puerto Deportivo para tomar un Vermouth di Torino Riserva Speciale Ambrato de Martini (elaborado a partir de vinos 100% italianos minuciosamente seleccionados) en la terraza del famoso restaurante Ké, donde ver y ser visto es una de las reglas del juego.

Para almorzar, las sugerencias son tan numerosas como atractivas. La Bodeguita del Puerto es, sin duda, uno de los lugares favoritos de los sotograndinos desde hace años. Un Martini Rosso and Tonic (60 ml. de Martini Rosso, una parte de tónica y una rodaja

de naranja) con un refrescante tomate con melva, un pescado a la plancha, unos langostinos gratinados o una buena carne, serán opciones más que recomendables para los amantes de la mejor mesa mediterránea. Otra alternativa muy apetecible será sentarse en la terraza de Molino del Conde a degustar uno de sus deliciosos arroces acompañado con el rey de los vermouth: el Martini Bianco con tónica (mucho hielo, 7cl de Martini Bianco, 7 cl de tónica y una rodaja de lima), un trago refrescante, fácil de reconocer por sus notas de vainilla, con la chispa justa entre el dulce y el amargo; perfecto para el verano en la urbanización.

Para continuar viviendo un día al más puro estilo de Sotogrande habrá que hacer una visita a las canchas de polo, el punto de encuentro más tradicional de las tardes de verano en la urbanización.

Después del partido, nada como una parada en el club de playa Trocadero. Un lugar fascinante en el que relajarse, por ejemplo, con un delicioso mojito Bacardí (50 ml. de Bacardi Carta Blanca, 4 limas, 12 hojas frescas de menta, dos cucharaditas de azúcar, 25 ml., de agua carbonatada y menta fresca).

El After Polo abre sus puertas cada temporada en las canchas de Santa María Polo Club para hacer bailar y disfrutar a los sotograndinos hasta altas horas de la madrugada.

Al atardecer, La Marina será el destino perfecto al que acudir para dar un paseo, darse un capricho en el mercadillo de verano, llevar a los niños a las atracciones y acabar en Bokana tomando uno de sus deliciosos cócteles.

Nuestra sugerencia: un pequeño paraíso. Una combinación creada por el barman Juan Miguel Cabello a base de ginebra Bombay Sapphire sometida a una maceración de rosas persas, zumo de lima, sirope de rosas y un top de soda de fresa.

Para cenar, Sotogrande cuenta con muy buenos restaurantes a los que acudir para saborear manjares de todas las nacionalidades. De entre las propuestas más destacadas, será imprescindible reservar en el mítico restaurante Midas del Puerto de Sotogrande.

Un lugar precioso con unas vistas insuperables en el que dejarse conquistar por elaboraciones de primer nivel, como un exquisito tataki de atún rojo o un suculento chuletón de vaca a la parrilla, acompañadas con uno de los cócteles más de moda: el clásico italiano Negroni (1/3 de Bombay Sapphire, 1/3 de Martini Riserva Bitter y 1/3 de Martini Rosso).

Para terminar la velada de la manera más dulce, caminaremos por el Puerto hasta llegar, de nuevo, a La Marina en busca de uno de los locales de referencia para los amantes de la cocina nikkei (fusión de sabores japoneses y peruanos), Don Diego. En esta ocasión, sin embargo, acudiremos para paladear uno de sus sabrosos postres: el bizcocho de té matcha, que acompañaremos con un L’Espresso Martini (Vodka Grey Goose, café espresso de origen único, Patrón XO Café y una pizca de sal), el cóctel perfecto para espabilarse y poder seguir sacando partido a la urbanización. Las noches de verano no acaban después de la cena en Sotogrande. The best way to begin the day in the resort is with a walk among its endless avenues, impressive streets in the purest Californian style, every inch of which are dotted with heavenly palm trees and luxury villas.

The morning is the perfect time to take a dip on Catamarans Beach, and then when it is time for an aperitif, take the taxi-boat (the service is free) to the Marina in order to have a Vermut di Torino Riserva Speciale Ambrato by Martini (produced using 100% Italian wines that are meticulously selected) on the

terrace of the famous KĂŠ restaurant, where seeing and being seen is one of the rules of the game. For lunch, the options are both extensive and appealing. La Bodeguita del Puerto has undoubtedly been one of the preferred places of Sotogrande locals for years.

A Martini Rosso and Tonic (60 ml of Martini Rosso, one-part tonic and a slice of orange) with refreshing tomato with tuna, grilled fish, some gratin prawns and good meat, are very recommended options for people who love the best Mediterranean cuisine. Another very appetising option is to sit down on the terrace of Molino del Conde to enjoy one of their delicious rice dishes accompanied by the king of vermouths: The Martini Bianco with tonic

After the match, there is nothing like stopping off at the Trocadero beach club. Also, this year they have revamped the concept, therefore it will be essential to visit in order to enjoy really great plans such as the four parties that one of the best rums in the world, Santa Teresa, has prepared for the summer nights on Friday. Undoubtedly, it is the coolest way to complete a perfect summer experience in Sotogrande. n

L

a 47 edición del Torneo Internacional de Polo de Sotogrande convierte cada verano a la urbanización en el centro de todas las miradas. Desde el punto de vista deportivo, por ser uno de los eventos más destacados del calendario polístico internacional y contar con algunos de los mejores jugadores del planeta. Desde la mirada social, por ser el punto de encuentro de los rostros más conocidos de la sociedad y las grandes familias tanto europeas como americanas. Y desde la óptica de los que aman la buena vida, por ser el lugar perfecto para disfrutar de un buen cóctel, unas compras o una extraordinaria sesión gastronómica.

ANTONIO GARCÍA COSTURA ATEMPORAL Nos colamos en el atelier de los hermanos García, Antonio y Fernando, los creadores de una de las firmas de moda con más personalidad del momento. Su estilo sencillo, elegante y femenino cada vez cuenta con más seguidoras.

ntonio y Fernando García forman uno de los dúos más destacados de la moda española. Desde su estudio en el corazón de la capital hispalense han creado un universo propio de piezas únicas en las que sobresale su gusto por los acabados y la costura de siempre. Hablamos con Antonio, el 50 por ciento de la firma, ya que Fernando, ganador de un Goya al mejor vestuario por “La isla mínima”, se encuentra estos días en “plena faena cinematográfica”: la segunda temporada de la serie “La Peste” y a las órdenes de Benito Zambrano en la cinta “Intemperie”. n ¿CÓMO OS DISTEIS CUENTA DE QUE QUERÍAIS SER DISEÑADORES DE MODA? Que nos dedicáramos a la moda estaba un poco predestinado en el sentido de que tanto Fernando como yo nos hemos criado con un taller de costura en casa. Mi madre era modista y vivíamos en medio de telas y figurines… Siempre lo habíamos tenido muy presente pero no fue hasta terminar Selectividad cuando me lo planteé en serio. Justo ese año abrieron en Sevilla una escuela de diseño y empecé.

Fernando lo tuvo un poco más fácil porque aunque viviera el mismo contexto, ya contaba con mi precedente. Él en su caso hizo Decoración en la Escuela de Artes Aplicadas y luego estudió en el mismo centro que yo.

n LLEVÁIS MÁS DE UNA DÉCADA COMO MARCA. ¿CÓMO

RESULTA TRABAJAR CON TU HERMANO? ¿CÓMO OS DIVIDÍS EL TRABAJO? Trabajar dos personas siempre es complicado pero bueno, ya llevamos años y creo que el resultado es bueno (ríe).

Yo me encargo principalmente de la medida y las pruebas, lo que no quiere decir que cuando estoy haciendo una propuesta para novia y Fernando está por aquí también intervenga. Fernando, por su parte, es el responsable del visual del estudio, la colocación de las colecciones, los maniquíes,… Y en cuanto al diseño de las colecciones de prêt-à-porter, lo llevamos los dos pero yo siempre tengo un conocimiento más técnico y él más como estilista. Por su juventud y su trabajo en el cine tiene mucha frescura. n ¿CÓMO ES EL DÍA A DÍA EN VUESTRO TALLER? Pues diría que vertiginoso en el sentido de que aquí llevamos dos líneas de negocio: la costura a medida por un lado, y por otro, la creación de colecciones prêt-à-porter, además de la parte comercial ya que nuestro taller es punto de venta. La moda realmente es una disciplina que implica muchos coletazos de muchos tipos. No nos aburrimos…

n ¿ES FÁCIL COMPAGINAR EL TRABAJO A MEDIDA CON LAS COLECCIONES? Hasta este año hacíamos dos colecciones al año pero para nuestro ritmo, el tipo de ropa que hacemos y el concepto que tenemos en la cabeza, cada vez nos estamos enfocando a una colección al año. Para nosotros es prácticamente imposible hacer dos colecciones y mezclarlo con todo lo demás.

PRECISAMENTE LA DE ESTE AÑO RECIBE EL NOMBRE DE FEMENINO SINGULAR, ¿CÓMO LA DEFINIRÍAS? Es una colección muy femenina, enfocada a una mujer que defiende su personalidad, que se siente especial, singular… ese es un poco el leit motiv, pasando luego por nuestro concepto de siempre que es la atemporalidad, la búsqueda de la belleza, de lo bonito, que la mujer se sienta guapa…

n

¿LE HACÉIS MUCHO CASO A LAS TENDENCIAS? Sí, pero de una forma muy relajada. Cada vez hacemos más lo que nos gusta y lo que nos apetece que sorprendentemente luego coincide con lo que es tendencia… Es cierto que hay que estar al tanto de las novedades y de las pautas que rige el mundo de la moda, pero lo hacemos a nuestro ritmo y estilo llevando a cabo los conceptos que nos gustan, los acabados, las telas, los cortes… Creo que eso es lo que ayuda a definir tu sello y tu línea personal: tener un lenguaje propio y una personalidad completamente reconocible y perfectamente identificable. Alcanzar ese punto es muy bonito para un diseñador.

n TAMBIÉN MARCÁIS ESTILO EN LA MODA NUPCIAL. ¿QUÉ ES LO QUE MÁS TE GUSTA A LA HORA DE CREAR UN VESTIDO DE NOVIA? El mundo de las novias es muy especial porque entran en juego muchos factores. La chica que se va a casar y viene a buscarte lo hace para que la vistas, supuestamente, el día más importante y feliz de su vida lo que implica una responsabilidad tremenda. Cada vez más las clientas buscan vivir una experiencia especial, no sólo tener un traje, por eso intentamos que todo sea muy agradable, que se diviertan durante todo el proceso…

Hay mucho vínculo personal y emocional con la novia, compartes muchos momentos. n HÁBLAME DE ESE PROCESO… Es un proceso a medida, muy artesanal. Es un apartado de nuestro trabajo en el que te puedes permitir hacer determinados trabajos con determinados tiempos y costes que no los puedes utilizar a diario. Entran en juego profesionales muy buenos, siempre procuro artesanos de la zona como bordadores, floristas, sombrereros… Y todo eso va haciendo que se vaya creando un gremio importante alrededor. n ¿EN QUÉ PUNTO ESTÁ ANTONIO GARCÍA Y HACIA DÓNDE QUERÉIS IR? Estamos muy contentos con el momento que estamos viviendo de reconocimiento, no solo a nivel local sino nacional.

Vivimos una cierta madurez pero todavía siento que me queda mucho por aprender.

Quiero hacer muchísimas cosas que tengo en la cabeza pero siempre dentro de nuestra línea de trabajo y de forma de vida. No voy a hacer grandes piruetas a nivel comercial que no pueda defender… Somos muy calmados en ese sentido.

n ¿CÓMO HA EVOLUCIONADO LA MODA DESDE QUE EMPEZASTE? Mucho… Empecé a estudiar en los 80, y por tanto, esa década junto a la de los 90, que fue decisiva en la moda española, me ha marcado. Una forma de trabajar que es n ¿EN QUÉ PROYECTOS OS ENCONcompletamente diferente de la actual. Lo TRÁIS INMERSOS AHORA? Pero aun así con muchas ganas de poco a poco. coger unos días de descanso y disfrutar de esta época. n PAZ VEGA, INMA CUESTA, BÁRBARA LENNIE, PASIÓN VEGA, EVA GONZÁLEZ… EN LOS ÚLTIMOS AÑOS LA FIR- n POR ÚLTIMO, ANTONIO, ¿QUÉ NO PUEDE FALTAR EN LA MA SE HA CONVERTIDO EN UN REFERENTE ENTRE LAS MALETA ESTAS VACACIONES? Lo primero que hay que tener en CELEBRITIES NACIONALES. SOÑEMOS, ¿A QUIÉN OS GUS- cuenta es adónde se va a ir y las necesidades que se van a tener. Pero eviTARÍA VESTIR A NIVEL INTERNACIONAL? Jajaja… A nivel dentemente, ropa muy cómoda y algunas prendas claves que te salven nacional es cierto que hemos llegado a cotas muy altas, hemos tenido de ir mejor vestida. Creo que no puede faltar una buena camisa blanca, oportunidad de vestir a mucha gente. En cuanto a actrices extranjeras alguna prenda tipo blazer por si refresca, un vestido sencillo por si surge que respondan a nuestra filosofía y puestos a soñar, me encantaría vestir algún cóctail, vestidos largos vaporosos de gasa… Y por supuesto, un bikini y un buen panamá.n a Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchet, Rooney Mara o Tilda Swinton.

We sneaked in to the atelier of the García brothers, Antonio and Fernando, the creators of one of the fashion firms with the most personality of the moment. Their style, which is simple, elegant and feminine, is attracting an increasing number of followers.

A

ntonio and Fernando García are one of the most outstanding duos in Spanish fashion. From their studio in the heart of Seville city they have created their own universe of unique pieces in which their fine taste for finishes and traditional couture is obvious. We talked to Antonio, who is 50 per cent of the firm, because Fernando, who has won a Goya for the best costumes for ‘La isla mínima’, is currently in ‘full cinematic mode’: working on the second season of the series ‘La Peste’ and with Benito Zambrano on the film ‘Intemperie’.

WHEN DID YOU REALISE THAT YOU WANTED TO BE FASHION DESIGNERS? In a way it was rather predestined that we would make fashion our career, in the sense that both Fernando and I grew up amid a couture workshop in our house. My mother was a dressmaker so we were surrounded by fabrics and mannequins… it was part of our lives, but it wasn’t until I finished my exams at school that I thought about it seriously. A design school opened in Seville that same year, and I started studying there.

It was a bit easier for Fernando because although he came from the same background, he also had me as a precedent. In his case he first studied Decoration at the School of Applied Arts, and then at the same college as me.

YOU HAVE HAD YOUR OWN BRAND FOR OVER A DECADE NOW. WHAT IS IT LIKE, WORKING WITH YOUR BROTHER? HOW DO YOU DIVIDE THE WORK? Two people working together is always complicated but we have been doing it for years and I think it has worked out OK (laughs). I normally do the measuring and fittings, but that doesn’t mean that Fernando will intervene if he is here when I am making suggestions for a bride. Fernando, for his part, is in charge of the visual side of the studio, deciding where the collections should be displayed, arranging the mannequins…and when it comes to the prêt-à-porter collections, we both do those although I have more technical knowledge and he is more of a stylist. Because of his youth and his work in the cinema, he has a very fresh approach.

WHAT IS YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LIFE LIKE IN YOUR WORKSHOP? Well, I would say it is giddy in the sense that we have two lines of business here: made-to-measure dressmaking on one hand, and the creation of prêt-à-porter collections on the other, as well as the commercial side because our workshop is also a saleroom. Fashion really is a discipline with a great many different aspects. We never get bored…

IS IT EASY TO COMBINE YOUR MADE-TO-MEASURE WORK WITH THE COLLECTIONS? Until this year we have been doing two collections a year but with our pace of work, the type of clothes we make and the concept we have in our heads, we are thinking more and more of focusing on one collection a year. It is practically impossible for us to do two collections as well as everything else.

THIS YEAR’S COLLECTION IS CALLED ‘FEMENINO SINGULAR’, OR REMARKABLY FEMININE. HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE THAT? It is a very feminine collection, designed for a woman with her own individual personality, who feels special, unique… in a way this is our leitmotif, leading on to the philosophy we have always had of timelessness, the search for beauty, for prettiness, so the woman feels lovely…

DO YOU TAKE MUCH NOTICE OF TRENDS IN FASHION? Yes, but in a very relaxed way. We increasingly do more of what we like and what we feel like doing, only to find that, surprisingly, it coincides with a new trend. You do have to keep up to date with what’s new and the guidelines which rule the world of fashion, but we do it at our own pace and in our own way, using the concepts we like, the finishes, the fabrics, the cuts… I believe that is what helps to define your stamp and your personal line: having your own language and a completely recognisable and perfectly identifiable personality.

It’s always good for a designer when they reach that point.

HOW HAS FASHION EVOLVED SINCE YOU BEGAN? It has evolved a great deal… I started studying in the 1980s, and that decade and the 1990s were decisive for Spanish LA REVISTA DE SOTOGRANDE

too; I always try to use local artisans for the embroidery, the flowers, the hats… and by doing that we are also creating a significant guild around ourselves. n WHAT STAGE IS ANTONIO GARCÍA AT NOW, AND WHE-

RE YOU WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO FROM HERE? We are very happy with the way things are now, because we are being recognised, not only locally but nationwide as well. We have gained a certain maturity but I still feel we have a lot to learn. I want to do all sorts of things that I have in my head, but always within our line of work and way of life. I’m not going to make major changes for commercial purposes which I can’t defend. We are very calm in that sense. n WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU INVOLVED IN AT THE MO-

MENT? Well, as I mentioned, Fernando is busy with the second part of ‘La Peste’ and the film ‘Intemperie’. And in terms of immediate projects, we’re preparing the next spring-summer collection, which will be released by the end of the year. n AND FOR THE SUMMER, WHAT PLANS DO YOU HAVE? For us, summer is our busiest time. We have a great deal of work to do on bridal gowns and made-to-measure, so we’re working flat out. Even so, we usually manage to grab a few days rest and enjoy this time of year. n FINALLY, ANTONIO, WHAT SHOULD WE

ALWAYS PACK IN OUR SUITCASE FOR HOLIDAYS? The first thing to bear in mind is where you are going and what you will need. But obviously, clothes which are very comfortable and a few key garments which make you look well-dressed. I think you should always pack a good white shirt, a blazer or similar in case it gets cool, a simple dress in case you’re invited to a cocktail party, long gauzy dresses… and of course a bikini and a good panama hat. n

Sotogrande es, desde sus orígenes, el hogar de grandes familias que encontraron en este destino el lugar perfecto para ser felices. La formada por Manuel Cuenca y Mercedes Franco es, sin duda, una de ellas. La urbanización los cautivó hace décadas, siendo el destino elegido para ver crecer a sus hijas, Paloma, Beatriz y Mercedes. Tres grandes mujeres, que sonríen como niñas cada vez que se reencuentran una tarde en el jardín de la casa familiar de Paseo del Parque; ese rincón especial al que siempre vuelven en busca de tranquilidad y calor familiar.

L

a familia Cuenca forma parte de ese selecto grupo de sotograndinos que viven en la urbanización todo el año. A la cabeza del importante grupo empresarial Opera Group, Manuel Cuenca es, sobre todo, un apasionado del trabajo y de las cosas obtenidas mediante esfuerzo. Importantes valores que tanto él, como su mujer, Mercedes, han sabido inculcar a sus tres hijas desde pequeñas, haciendo de ellas grandes mujeres triunfadoras al frente de puestos de gran responsabilidad.

Paloma se graduó e hizo un máster en Psicología en Sevilla, lugar donde actualmente vive con su marido y su hijo y es gerente y CEO de la Clínica Golden de Medicina y Cirugía Estética. Por su parte, Beatriz, la más pequeña de las tres, después de estudiar el Bachillerato en el Colegio Internacional de Sotogrande, se graduó en Odontología por la Universidad Europea de Madrid, hizo un Máster en Prótesis, Implantoprótoresis y Estética Dental y decidió sumarse al proyecto familiar emprendido por su hermana

años atrás, poniéndose al frente como CEO y Odontóloga de la Clínica Golden Dental, también en Sevilla, donde se encuentra comprometida para dar el sí, quiero el próximo año.

Las Clínicas Golden, en las que ambas desarrollan su carrera profesional, son uno de los centros de referencia en medicina y cirugia estética y dental de la capital hispalense. Su filosofía empresarial reúne todos esos principios aprendidos por Paloma y Beatriz en el seno familiar. Dedicación, cercanía, confianza y, sobre todo, gusto por el trabajo

bien hecho son algunos de los grandes pilares sobre los que se asienta esta clínica, una de las más prestigiosas de Andalucía en su especialidad.

Por su parte, la tercera de las hermanas, Mercedes, es licenciada en Administración y Dirección de Empresas-Marketing por la Universidad San Pablo CEU de Madrid y tiene un máster en Gestión de Empresas de Moda por la Universidad de Navarra ISEM. Tras varios años desarrollándose en el ámbito internacional, regresó a España y, actual-

mente, es la directora Comercial y de Marketing de Opera Group, en Sotogrande.

Tres ejemplos de mujeres de su tiempo, emprendedoras y trabajadoras, que atesoran en Sotogrande sus mejores recuerdos. Desde los primeros veranos en Paseo del Río, cuando las tardes las ocupaban pescando y soñando despiertas; hasta los buenos ratos pasados en el club de playa El Octógono y en el Cucurucho, o las partidas de villar en el Pototo's entre amigos...

Y, aunque actualmente solo Mercedes vive a

diario en Sotogrande, donde está felizmente casada desde el pasado año, las hermanas no dudan un segundo en recorrer la ruta del Toro desde Sevilla para pasar todos juntos el verano, disfrutando de esa tranquilidad tan propia de la urbanización; de los días de risas y amigas; de los baños de sol y de playa, pero, sobre todo y ante todo, de la familia.

Algo que, como suele ser habitual en todas las casas, se disfruta en torno a la mesa, saboreando esos platos que nadie prepara como mamá. n

THE CUENCA WOMEN Roots in Sotogrande

Since the outset, Sotogrande has been home to great families who found this destination to be the perfect place to be happy. The one formed by Manuel Cuenca and Mercedes Franco is, undoubtedly, one of them. The resort captivated them decades ago, and was the destination chosen to watch their daughters grow up, Paloma, Beatriz and Mercedes. Three great women, who smile like girls every time they meet for an afternoon in the garden of the family home on Paseo del Parque; the special place they always return to in search of peace and quiet and the warmth of family.

T

he Cuenca family forms part of the select group of Sotogrande residents who live in the resort throughout the year. At the head of the important business group Opera Group, Manuel Cuenca is, above all, someone who is passionate about work and the things obtained through effort. Important values that both he, and his wife, Mercedes, have been able to instil in his three daughters from an early age, making them great women who have triumphed in roles of great responsibility.

Paloma graduated and undertook a Master´s degree in Psychology in Seville, the place where she currently lives with her husband and her son and she is manager and CEO of Clínica Golden, in Medicine and Cosmetic Surgery. In turn, Beatriz, the youngest of the three, after studying the Baccalaureate at Sotogrande International School, graduated in Dentistry from the European University of Madrid, did a Master´s Degree in Prosthesis, Implant Prosthesis and Cosmetic Dentistry,

and she decided to join the family project undertaken by her sister years before, taking up the post of CEO and Dentist at Clínica Golden Dental, also in Seville, where she is engaged and due to marry, next year.

Clínica Golden, where both carry out their professional career, is one of the benchmark centres for cosmetic medicine in the regional capital. Its business philosophy brings together all those principles learned by Paloma and Beatriz in the heart of their family. Dedication, closeness, trust and, above all, a taste for good work, are some of the great pillars that this clinic is based on, one of the most prestigious in Andalusia in its speciality.

In turn, the third of the sisters, Mercedes, holds a degree in Company-Marketing Administration and Management from the University San Pablo CEU in Madrid, and she has a Master´s in Management of fashion companies from the University of NavarreISEM Fashion Business School. returned to Spain and, is currently the Commercial and Marketing Director of Opera Group, in Sotogrande.

Three examples of women of their time, entrepreneurial and hardworking, who have their best memories in Sotogrande. From their first summers spent at Paseo del Río, when afternoons were spent fishing and daydreaming; to the good times spent at El Octógono Beach Club and at El Cucurucho, and the rounds of pool at Pototo´s among friends...

And, although at present only Mercedes lives in Sotogrande on a daily basis, where she has been happily married since last year, the sisters have no doubts about exploring the route of the Bull from Seville in order to spend the summer together, enjoying the calm that is inherent to the resort; days of laughter and friends; sunbathing and the beach, but, above all and first and foremost, of family. Something that, as is normal in every home, is enjoyed around the table, savouring the dishes that nobody prepares like mum. n

CÓMO REACCIONAR TRAS UNA PICADURA

Según indica el Doctor Ignacio García Núñez, las picaduras no distinguen entre niños y adultos, aunque los pequeños suelen presentar una reacción más importante y escandalosa, sobre todo por tener la piel más suave y delicada y por presentar menos tejido laxo o adiposo.

Mantener la calma.

Aplicar hielo (la aplicación de barro en la zona disminuye el tamaño de la picadura pero nos exponemos al riesgo de infección).

• La extracción del aguijón debe hacerla el especialista.

• Usar antihistamínico para reducir el picor o algún antiinflamatorio (paracetamol, ibuprofeno, etc.).

En pacientes diagnosticados de alergia, el uso de autoinyectores de adrenalina podría salvar sus vidas. Tras su aplicación tendría que acudir al servicio de urgencias más próximo.

Las picaduras producen cuatro tipos de síntomas: reacción leve, que es la más frecuente (menos de 10 cm de diámetro); reacción local extensa (mayor de 10 cm de diámetro); reacción en la piel generalizada (urticaria, angioedema) y, por último, un cuadro grave (ahogo, mareos, náuseas, vómitos...), o anafilaxia (afectación de dos o más órganos del cuerpo), que es la menos habitual.

MEDUSAS. La toxicidad de la picadura de la medusa variará según la especie. La mayoría que encuentran los bañistas provocan picaduras dolorosas y con una sensación de ardor, pero pasajeras. El problema está en el número de picaduras y en la extensión de éstas, ya que algunas medusas pueden tener tentáculos de hasta 40 metros, lo que se podría traducir en muerte por exceso de veneno y shock o en mareo por el dolor y ahogo.

Respecto al tratamiento, García Nuñez explica que, lo primero, es salir del agua y acudir al puesto de socorro más cercano. La mejor forma de tratar las picaduras de medusa es lavar la herida con agua salada, aplicar compresas frías y una pomada que contenga antihistamínico y corticoides para paliar la inflamación. El empleo de algunos recursos populares como echar orina podría ser útil, mientras que el empleo de agua dulce o arena sobre la herida contribuiría a extender el tóxico e incluso podría agravar la erupción cutánea. En el caso de que algún tentáculo de la medusa hubiese quedado adherido a la piel es preciso quitarlo, pero siempre utilizando guantes.

Para concluir, y pese a todo lo que se pueda leer, nadie es alérgico a las medusas, lo que se produce es una respuesta de nuestro organismo ante el mecanismo de defensa que tienen estos seres vivos para protegerse. Las medidas de aplicación temprana son fundamentales para que la reacción sea lo menos lesiva posible y no nos fastidie las vacaciones.n

Don´t let them ruin your holidays In addition to the arrival of the well-deserved annual rest, the summer season is characterised by the emergence of one of the classic enemies of summer: stings, from the feared jellyfish, to the stings of mosquitos, bees and wasps. Alongside Dr Ignacio García Núñez, a specialist in allergology at Quirónsalud Campo de Gibraltar, we took a look at the tips to bear in mind in order to prevent a sting from ruining the holidays:

In order to prevent the effects of a mosquito sting there are very effective methods in pharmacies, such as wristbands, creams, ultrasound devices, etc., which are approved for use on children, and many are even recommended for new-born babies.

As Dr Ignacio García Núñez, points out, stings do not discriminate between children and adults, however the little ones normally have a more significant and scandalous reaction, especially as their skin is softer and more delicate, and because it has less loose or adipose tissue.

Stings cause four types of symptoms: a mild reaction, which is the most frequent (less than 10 cm in diameter); extensive local reaction (large than 10 cm in diameter); widespread reaction on the skin (hives or angioedema) and, lastly, serious symptoms (suffocation, dizziness, nausea, vomiting...) or anaphylaxis (when two or more organs in the body are affected), which is the least common.

HOW TO REACT FOLLOWING A STING

• •

Stay calm Apply ice (putting mud on the area reduces the size of the sting but we expose ourselves to the risk of infection).

• The sting should be extracted by the specialist.

• Use an antihistamine to reduce the sting or any anti-inflammatory (paracetamol, ibuprofen, etc.)

In patients diagnosed with an allergy, the use of adrenaline auto-injectors could save their lives. Following its application, it would be necessary to head to the closest emergency department.

JELLYFISH The toxicity of the jellyfish sting will vary depending on the species. Most that bathers suffer cause painful stings, with a burning sensation, but are passing. The problem is in the number of stings and the area that they cover, as some jellyfish have tentacles of up to 40 metres, which could result in death due to an excess or poison and shock, or in dizziness due to pain and suffocation.

MOSQUITOS, BEES AND WASPS

With regard to treatment, García Nuñez explained that the first thing is to come out of the water and head to the nearest first aid point. The best way to treat jellyfish stings is to wash the wound with salt water, apply cold packs and an ointment that contains antihistamine and corticosteroids in order to alleviate inflammation. The use of some popular resources such as putting urine on the sting could be useful, while the use of freshwater or sand on the wound would help to spread the toxin and could even make the skin rash worse. In the event that any jellyfish tentacle remains stuck to the skin, it is necessary to remove it, but always while wearing gloves.

To conclude, and despite everything that may be read, nobody is allergic to jellyfish, what happens is a response from our organism to the defence mechanism that these living beings have to protect themselves.

The early implementation of measures is crucial to ensure that the reaction is the least harmful possible and does not ruin the holidays. n

omienza el partido y, con él, nuestra singular cata de blancos. El elegido para empezar es Finca Montico. Un blanco de color amarillo verdoso con un aroma varietal de verdejo con una intensidad media, notas de hinojo, finas hierbas, flores blancas, pera y melocotón.

Al catarlo, en boca descubrimos un vino graso, fresco, muy untuoso y con un final largo y redondo perfecto para saborear mientras contemplamos animados el trotar de los caballos.

Nos dedicamos a estudiar toda su complejidad aromática, conservada intacta gracias a una buena acidez y a un periodo de crianza sobre sus lías más finas. Un vino que no busca tanta explosividad en nariz, sino un carácter más varietal, elegante y complejo.

Con el cuarto chukker descorchamos un Marqués de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc. En boca deja una sensación fresca y aromática de final limpio y persistente que nos sorprende. Decidimos analizarlo un poco, descifrar alguno de los muchos secretos de este vino de color amarillo pálido con reflejos verdosos. En nariz observamos notas de hierba fresca, un fondo mineral que le da personalidad y abundante fruta fresca como cítricos, piña o melón. Nos encanta.

En boca percibimos un blanco untuoso, con un fondo de lías finas, frutos secos y notas de madera tostada. Ideal para una tarde de verano; perfecto para Sotogrande. Con

el último chukker llega a la mesa Marqués de Riscal Rueda Verdejo. Un vino brillante de color amarillo pajizo que, como buen verdejo, en nariz presenta una intensidad aromática alta con aromas tanto de frutas tropicales como notas de hinojo y hierba fresca. En boca, lo encontramos refrescante a la vez que untuoso, con un final ligeramente amargo, propio de la variedad, y de trago largo y agradable.

Acaba el partido, pero el buen ambiente continúa en el club, donde la tarde avanza, el sol se suaviza y las ganas disfrutar van en aumento.

Para brindar por el buen rato pasado y finalizar esta especial cata abrimos el últimos de los blancos preparados; un Marqués de Riscal Organic. Un excelente Rueda Verdejo cultivado por la Bodega de manera cien por cien ecológica desde 2010.

En nariz, encontramos un carácter varietal intenso con las clásicas notas anisadas y de hinojo propias del verdejo. En boca, es un blanco fresco, con una buena estructura y persistencia, además de cierta mineralidad que refleja claramente el terruño de Rueda. Sin duda una buena elección con la que alargar el día rodeados de la belleza de este enclave único y del buen ambiente generado en torno a él. n

Sotogrande Magazine uncorked the best whites of Marqués de Riscal in a special tasting on one of the terraces of exclusive sporting venue.

he match is underway, and thus, so too is our special tasting of white wines. The one chosen to start with is Finca Montico. A white with a greenish yellow colour with the aroma of a verdejo variety with a medium intensity, notes of fennel, fine herbs, white flowers, pear and peach.

When tasted, in the mouth we discover an oily, fresh, very unctuous wine with a long and round finish, perfect for savouring as we cheerfully watch the trotting of the horses.

We devoted time to studying all of its aromatic complexity, maintained intact thanks to good acidity and a period of ageing on the finest lees.

A wine that does not seek as much explosiveness in the nose, but rather a more varietal character, that is elegant and complex.

In the second chukker, we uncorked a Marqués de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc. In the mouth, it leaves a fresh and aromatic sensation with a clean and persistent finish that is surprising.

We decided to analyse it a little, to unlock some of the many secrets of this wine with a pale ye-

llow colour with greenish reflections. In terms of the nose, we observe notes of fresh grass, a mineral background that gives it character and an abundance of fresh fruit, such as citrus fruit, pineapple and melon. We love it.

The scoreboard is progressing, and once again it is time for a break, and we take advantage to continue to unlock good wines by Marqués de Riscal. This time, the chosen option is a Marqués de Riscal Limousin from the 2016 harvest.

Its golden colour entices us to drink it calmly, in order to enjoy its complexity and elegance, its vanilla notes in the nose, flowers and light touches of fennel and scrubland herbs. In the mouth, we perceive an unctuous white, with a backdrop of fine lees, nuts and notes of toasted wood that are inherent to wood. Ideal for a summer afternoon; perfect for Sotogrande.

In the fourth chukker, the Marqués de Riscal Rueda Verdejo arrives at the table. A shiny wine with a straw yellow colour that, like a good verdejo, in the nose has a high aromatic intensity

with aromas of tropical fruit as well as notes of fennel and fresh herbs. To taste, we find it to be both refreshing and unctuous, with a slightly bitter after taste, inherent to the variety, and a long and pleasant finish.

The match ends, but the good atmosphere continues at the club, where the evening progresses, the sun softens and the desire to have fun increases. To toast to the good time enjoyed and to end this special tasting, we open the last of the white wines prepared; a Marqués de Riscal Organic. An excellent Rueda Verdejo grown by the Winery one hundred organically since 2010.

In the nose, we find an intense varietal character with the classic aniseed notes and fennel inherent to verdejo. In the mouth, it is fresh white, with a good body and persistence, as well as a certain mineral quality that clearly reflects the land of Rueda. Undoubtedly, this is a good choice for extending the day surrounded by the beauty of this unique setting and the good atmosphere created around it. n

n ‘DESCONCIERTO’, HA DEJADO AFLORAR A LA CANTANTE QUE LLEVAS DENTRO, ¿DE DÓNDE TE VIENE ESTA PASIÓN ? Me

viene de toda la vida.Los que me conocen lo saben bien.Para mí, cantar es otra forma de expresarme, de interpretar, pero con música, me conecta con el universo. Siempre he mantenido una estrecha relación con la música, pero de manera discreta. He participado en películas y en series con mi voz, he tenido mis grupo... Era algo que tenía ahí, guardado, ‘callaíto’, pero latiendo con fuerza, llamando a la puerta, hasta que lo he dejado salir del todo. ¡Y fíjate la que he liado! n ¿QUÉ TE HA ANIMADO A DAR ESTE IM-

PORTANTE SALTO? Lo cierto es que al principio no tenía la pretensión de hacer un disco. Lo que en realidad quería era hacer un espectáculo musical. Pero, la unión con Añil Fernández hizo realidad este trabajo. Creo que cuando uno se compromete de verdad con las cosas y lo trabaja con corazón y dedicación, aparecen personas y situaciones que jamás hubieras pensado…

¿DA VÉRTIGO? Sí, claro que da, pero los artistas vivimos, precisamente, del vértigo. De

provocarlo y de sentirlo. Convivimos continuamente con esa sensación. Es algo que me gusta; que forma parte de mi profesión.

Ser artista es de valientes, y en ello estamos, ahora con esta nueva faceta...En cualquier caso, me siento muy afortunada. Agradezco cada día el poder dedicarme y vivir de lo que realmente me apasiona. Aunque también he de decir que la suerte es el arte de cuidar los detalles. He trabajado muchísimo y he recorrido un largo camino en el que también ha habido épocas difíciles.

un álbum hecho a la antigua usanza, grabado en directo prácticamente. Y, eso, se nota al escucharlo. Además, es un trabajo musicalmente muy rico, hay una gran variedad de géneros.

Sus letras cuentan aquello que me preocupa, me ocupa y que necesitaba compartir. Temas como la culpa, el miedo, la confianza, el agradecimiento a los padres, (algo que me parece fundamental), también trato asuntos de vital importancia, como el amor, por supuesto, y, sobre todo, el amor hacia uno mismo, porque, si tu no te quieres, difícilmente vas a poder amar a los demás.

En general, se podría decir que este disco es como una ventana a la que asomarse para conocer mi interior. Algo que realmente me ha costado trabajo hacer, porque jamás me he expuesto como persona, siempre se me ha conocido a través de los personaje que he interpretado, aquí soy yo, me desnudo en cuerpo y alma tanto en el álbum, como en el espectáculo que acompaña a este trabajo sobre el escenario.

Cortés o Michael Thomas, han confiado en nosotros y nos han ayudado a que este trabajo sea algo realmente excepcional. n ¿EN QUÉ ESTILO MUSICAL LO ENCUADRARÍAS? Estilo libre (risas). Kevin Johan-

sen, un artista argentino al que admiro muchísimo, se autodenomina ‘degenerado’ por tocar todos los géneros. En ‘Desconcierto’ pasa algo parecido. En las canciones que lo componen hay un poco de todo. Empezamos con un Tarantino y terminamos con un jazz por bulerías al puro estilo Broadway. Hay una gran variedad de estilos, pero todo dentro de una gran unidad y un concepto clarísimo.

¿TE VEREMOS DE GIRA POR SOTOGRANDE? Este verano vamos a hacer algu-

nos conciertos, pero el plato fuerte va a ser el espectáculo, que vamos a desarrollar sobre las tablas, con una función maravillosa que ha dirigido el Premio Nacional de Teatro, Miguel del Arco y que cuenta con gente tan prestigiosa como Alessio Meloni para la escenografía, Juanjo Llorens para la iluminación o Ivan campaña, que se ha encargado del espectacular vestuario. Estoy muy contenta de poder contar con gente tan grande. Me siento muy arropada. Pero, sobre todo y antetodo, tengo mis energías puestas en la promoción de mi disco y en la próxima gira del espectáculo.

She is an artist from her head to toes, who has been able to triumph in the difficult world of acting, based on effort, good work and lots of passion put into every scene. Her face is very well-known, due to her appearance in successful series such as ‘Amar es para siempre’ (Love is forever) and ‘Mar de Plástico’ (Sea of Plastic) and in prestigious films ‘15 años y un día’, (15 years and a day) by Gracia Querejeta, ‘Holmes & Watson. Madrid Days’, by José Luis Garci and ´La Distancia´ (Distance), by Iñaki Dorronsoro, among many others.

ow, the Andalusian has decided to open another door to her heart, to let everything she carries within flow out in the form of music. Sotogrande Magazine talked to her about this new artistic pathway entitled “Desconcierto” which will undoubtedly become a big talking point in the coming months:

WHAT WILL WE FIND ON THIS RECORD? TALK TO US ABOUT IT, ABOUT YOUR LYRICS, WHAT IS HIDDEN BETWEEN THE LINES... It is an album made the

old way, practically recorded live. And you can notice that when you listen to it. Also, it is project that is musically very rich, there is a wide range of genres. The lyrics talk about what concerns me, occupies me, and what I needed to share.

Subjects such as guilt, fear, trust, being thankful to parents, something that seems crucial to me, I also deal with subjects that are of crucial importance, such as love, of course, and above all the love towards oneself, because if you don´t love yourself, it will be difficult to love others. In general, it could be said that this record is like a window to peer through to see my inner world.

It is something that really took me a lot of work to make, because I have never exposed myself as a person, I have always been known through the characters I have played, here is me, I reveal my entire body and soul on the album, as well as in the show that accompanies this project on the stage.

“DESCONCIERTO”, HAS ENABLED THE SINGER WITHIN YOU TO BLOSSOM, WHERE DOES THAT PASSION COME FROM? I have had it my entire life. Those who

know me really know that. For me, singing is another way to express myself, to perform, but with music, it connects me with the universe.

I have always had a close relationship with music, but in a discreet way. I have participated in films and in series with my voice, I have had my groups... It was something I had there within me, hushed, but beating strongly, knocking at the door, until I let everything out.

And look what I got myself into! n WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TAKE THAT

IMPORTANT STEP? The truth is that at the start I did not intend to create a record. What I wanted to do actually was to create a musical show. But, the link with Añil Fernández made this project a reality. I think that when you really commit to things and work with heart and dedication, people and situations arise that you would never have imagined. n IS IT DIZZYING? Yes, of course it is, but artists thrive on that dizzying feeling. Causing it and experiencing it. We constantly

live with that feeling. It is something I like; which forms part of my profession. Being an artist is for brave people, and that is where we are now, with this new facet...In any case, I feel very fortunate. Every day I am grateful to be able to devote myself to and live from what I really love doing. Although I must also say that luck is the art of taking care of the details. I have worked a lot and I have taken a long path on which there have also been difficult periods.

an Argentine artist who I really admire, calls himself a “degenerate” as he plays all genres.

In “Desconcierto” something similar happens.

There is a bit of everything in the songs that comprise it. We begin with a Tarantino and finish with jazz with bulerías (Andalusian songs accompanied with clapping and dancing). There is a variety of styles, but all within a unity and a very clear concept.

WILL WE SEE YOU TOURING IN SOTOGRANDE? This summer we are going to do

some concerts, but the big thing will be the show, which we are going to do on stage, with a marvellous troupe that has won the National Prize for Theatre, Miguel de Arco, which has very prestigious people such as Alessio Meloni for stage design, Juanjo Llorens for lighting and Ivan Campaña, who has taken care of the spectacular costumes. I am really happy to have such great people. I feel very supported.

In a few months we will begin the tour, and no doubt that a concert will be very close to Sotogrande. n IN ADDITION TO THIS MUSICAL PROJECT, WHAT IS BELÉN LÓPEZ UP TO? We

res picos rocosos, los Faraglioni, coronan una isla, la de Capri, que aguarda al visitante para mostrarle sus encantos. Esos que en otros tiempos conquistaron a personajes de la talla de Jackie Kennedy Onassis, a la que la isla gustaba tanto, que mandó crear unos pantalones a medida con su nombre, los famosos ‘capri’.

La isla surge del Mar Tirreno, frente a la costa de Sorrento, y entre sus inagotables virtudes destaca ese azul intenso que baña su costa y lo inunda todo. Un color, que invita a la vida y que hace que cualquier estancia en este rincón italiano suponga un auténtico ‘chute’ de felicidad.

Solo con poner pie en suelo caprese uno ya se hace una idea de por qué este lugar es uno de los más famosos del mundo desde tiempos inmemoriales (desde el Imperio Romano lleva esta "isola" hechizando a emperadores tan famosos como Augusto o Tibero).

Entre la larga lista de visitas recomendadas para cualquier estancia en esta maravilla italiana, no hay que olvidar subirse en una lancha y visitar su famosa Grotta Azzurra, una gruta de 60 metros de largo y 25 de ancho cuyo su nombre deriva del magnífico color de los fondos marinos que se reflejan en ella.

La Marina Grande, el puerto de la isla, merece un paseo, para subir después en el funicular al pueblo de Capri y perderse entre sus incontables tesoros.

ANACAPRI, EL SEGUNDO CENTRO DE LA ISLA, inmersa entre olivos y viñedos. Hay que visitar la plaza de San Nicolás, la iglesia de San Miguel y la villa San Miguel.

BUEN GUSTO. Capri es un destino para comérselo. Su gastronomía es deliciosa y sus dulces un auténtico placer para los sentidos. Como curiosidad, destacar que en esta isla surgió la ensalada caprese, plato que fue inventado por un obrero al que le gustaba prepararse los bocadillos imitando la bandera italiana con tomate, mozzarella y albahaca.

VILLA JOVIS. Villa dedicada a Júpiter por el emperador romano Tiberio. Un edificio que se extiende en el promontorio del lejano oriente de Capri conocido como “Palacio Tiberio”y al que se llega después de un paseo de 45 minutos desde la iglesia de San Miguel.

Ya en tierra, la Marina Grande, el puerto de la isla, merece un paseo, para subir después en el funicular al pueblo de Capri y perderse entre sus incontables tesoros. Casas de toba volcánica, techos con terraza, arcos con pérgola y callejuelas entorchadas que desembocan en la plaza Umberto I, la Piazzetta: un auténtico salón al aire libre en el que tomar un café en alguno de sus establecimientos mientras se disfruta de la magia del entorno.

Desde la Piazzetta, brotan las vías principales de Capri. Los amantes de la moda y las compras encontrarán su paraíso en la Via Camerelle, la calle comercial de Capri,

donde las mejores boutiques de marcas internacionales de lujo se agolpan en escasos metros para sorpresa del visitante. Aquí, además, está la conocida tienda de sandalias hechas a mano de Amadeo Canfora. ¡Imprescindible!

Y, aunque las opciones son muchas, no hay que dejar Capri sin subir la escalera que da a la explanada de la capilla de Santa María del Socorro para, sin prisas, contemplar las impresionantes vistas a los golfos de Nàpoles y Salermo. n CÓMO LLEGAR. A Capri solamente se puede llegar en barco. Su tamaño es tan reducido que se hace imposible la construcción de un aeropuerto. Todos los días varias navieras cubren la ruta que separa Capri de Nápoles, Sorrento (la más cercana) o Salerno por lo que la conexión es muy buena.

DOLCE VITA. En los años 50 la isla se convierte en lugar de la “dolce vita” veraniega y atrae a personajes de la jet set mundial. Entre ellos Jaqueline Kennedy, que impuso su estilo introduciendo la moda de caminar descalzos, si bien la isla era ya famosa en el mundo entero por sus sandalias de esparto.

Bolonia es una playa ubicada en el término municipal de Tarifa, en lo que se co-

una media de 70 metros de anchura.

Es una playa donde también se practica Kitesurf y Windsurf. De hecho, es uno de los destinos recomendados para este deporte. Si recomendamos una escapada a Bolonia es porque no sólo podemos disfrutar del sol y de sus aguas turquesas, sino porque existen otras alternativas con las que completar la jornada en clave cultural. Y es que, en este emplazamiento se ubican las delicadas ruinas de la vieja ciudad romana de Baelo Claudia, enclave que se remonta al siglo II antes de Cristo y donde todavía pueden vislumbrarse las primeras industrias de salazón del atún, probablemente razón de ser del asentamiento.

La ciudad romana se puede visitar y es uno de los lugares de parada obligatoria para los interesados en la historia. El recorrido por las ruinas se hace a través de un itinerario determinado en el que se muestran, por ejemplo, las inmensas fábricas de salazones y de garum, una salsa que los romanos —sobre todo los de las clases más acomodadas— utilizaban para acompañar sus platos, y que en Baelo Claudia se elaboraba con cierto reconocimiento.

tancia de las ciudades del mundo romano es por la presencia de lugares para el entretenimiento, como los teatros, y su aforo. El teatro romano de Baelo Claudia se mantiene en un buen estado de conservación, y originalmente, tenía una capacidad para unas 2.000 personas. Actualmente, se utiliza para hacer representaciones. Durante todo el mes de agosto, se celebra el VI Festival 'Teatros Romanos de Andalucía', con interesantes puestas en escena bajo la luz de la luna.

En conclusión, proponemos escaparnos a Bolonia, disfrutar de un paradisíaco día de playa y gastronomía local. Y, para terminar el día, nada mejor que conocer a fondo la ciudad romana de Baelo Claudia y, si coincide con una representación teatral, deleitarse con la emoción tan profunda que supone sentarse en un teatro romano a disfrutar de una obra clásica, en un entorno inigualable, con el mar de fondo y el cielo estrellado. One of the ways to measure the importance of cities in the Roman world is the presence of places for entertainment, such as theatres and forums. The Roman theatres of Baelo Claudia is maintained in a good state of conservation, and originally had a capacity for around 2,000 people. It is used today to host performances. Throughout the month of August, the 4th “Roman Theatres of Andalusia” Festival will be taking place, with fascinating productions under the light of the moon.

aso a paso y superando a ritmo letárgico las consecuencias de la interminable crisis que ha arrasado como un vendaval gran parte de los páramos culturales de nuestro país, la Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico de la Costa del Sol, liderada por el incombustible Julio Peces y la Asociación Cultural Unicornio, cumple una edición más, y ya van 19, y lo hace ampliando sus horizontes tanto culturales como territoriales, clavando una pica en los suelos de Estepona (sede matriz del certamen), Marbella, Benahavís e incluso Málaga capital con una programación de ecléctica variedad temática y conceptual que incluye proyecciones (tanto la Sección Oficial a concurso como suculentas secciones paralelas), exposiciones culturales, presentaciones literarias y de nuevas ediciones de Home Video como la colección Collector´s Cut de Fox Home Entertainment, conferencias e incluso un preestreno nacional de postín: el de la esperada Predator de Shane Black que tendrá lugar en un pase exclusivo

La inauguración del festival tendrá lugar el domingo 9 de septiembre, a partir de las 20:00 Horas en el Centro Cultural Padre Manuel de Estepona, y el acto consistirá en la entrega del premio ASFAAN (Asociación de Festivales de Audiovisuales de Andalucía) al actor Pepón Nieto, por su representación como actor andaluz en el mundo del audiovisual fuera de las fronteras de nuestra comunidad autónoma, y la presentación por parte del director de cine argentino Gustavo Leonel Mendoza del documental Culto al terror, proyección inaugural de la Sección Oficial. Dentro de ésta podremos ver por primera vez en España films como las norteamericanas Keep Watching, de Sean Carter, Welcome the Stranger, de Justin Kelly, y The Cleanse, de Bobby Miller y protagonizada por Johnny Gallecki (The Big Bang Theory), tres de los platos fuertes del concurso junto a la fantasía juvenil francesa Seuls, de David Moreau, la cinta de animación de Arthur de

Pins (dibujante homenajeado en el festival) Zombillenium y el film de anime japonés Sword Art Online de Tomochiko Ito. Antes, el domingo 19 de Agosto, serán presentadas las actividades en Estepona de la XIX edición, con el ya tradicional concierto a cargo “La Música y el Cine” a cargo de la banda municipal y la presentación del padrino de esta XIX Edición, que en esta ocasión será el famoso presentador del recordado programa Cine de barrio, José Manuel Parada, un viejo conocido del certamen.

Como es costumbre, la programación de proyecciones incluye interesantes secciones paralelas relacionadas en torno al eje temático del festival, este año divido en la saga Indiana Jones creada por George Lucas y Steven Spielberg (se proyectarán los cuatro films de la saga y se presentará un libro conmemorativo, La marca de Indiana Jones, editado por Cazador) y el homenaje a uno de los pioneros del cine, George Mèliés, con una de las exposiciones más ambiciosas que se recuerdan en la historia del festival: “Empieza el espectáculo. Georges Méliès y el cine de 1900”, un innovador homenaje al productor, realizador y distribuidor de más de 500 películas entre 1896 y 1912 que reinó en el mundo del género fantástico y del trucaje cinematográfico durante más de veinte años. Un espacio de 200 metros cuadrados que trasladará a los visitantes al ambiente de principios del siglo XX para explicar cómo se produjo el nacimiento del cine como fenómeno popular y cuál fue el papel capital que tuvo Méliès en el mismo. La muestra, organizada por el propio festival, la Asociación Cultural Unicornio, el Ayuntamiento de Estepona y la Obra Social La Caixa, incluye reproducciones de aparatos, maquetas, objetos de época y copias de fotografías, así como la proyección de varios films, con una atención especial al seminal Le voyagedans la Lune (1902). Además, Benahavís acogerá desde el 20 de agosto la otra exposición cultural estrella de la programación de este año: Las aventuras de Indiana Jones, con todo tipo de miscelánea sobre el famosísimo personaje LA REVISTA DE SOTOGRANDE

interpretado por Harrison Ford. Otra sección paralela de gran interés para cualquier cinéfilo será Este clásico es fantástico, en la que se proyectarán mitos del cine de género de la Universal como Frankenstein, La momia, El hombre invisible o la extraordinaria La novia de Frankenstein.

El Unicornio de Honor 2018 a toda una carrera irá a parar a Carlos Gil, director de cine, guionista, ayudante de dirección y profesional del mundo cinematográfico que comenzó su carrera en 1967 con Guapa, intrépida y espía para convertirse a posteriori en uno de los asistentes de dirección más codiciados a nivel internacional, con trabajos en films como Cuando los dinosaurios dominaban la tierra, El León del desierto, la primera trilogía Indiana Jones, Nunca digas nunca jamás o Delta Force. Además, Gil ha desarrollado una prolífica carrera como director de episodios de series de televisión en España (Hospital central) y realizado largometrajes como School Killer o Alas rotas.

El premio Azpiri al mejor dibujante 2018 será para el ilustrador francés Arthur de Pins, considerado uno de los 10 dibujantes más influyentes del cómic francobelga en los últimos 10 años y también responsable de La marcha del cangrejo y Zombillenium, cuya adaptación cinematográfica competirá a concurso en la Sección Oficial del festival.

El premio a la mejor Serie de TV de este año será para Allí abajo, y el festival contará con la presencia de algunos de sus actores protagonistas, como Oscar Terol, Jon Plazola o Iker Galartza, además de con el director de la serie Javier Quintas. Además, el certamen volverá a contar con la colaboración de la productora Father & Sun para la sección de Cortos a concurso, todo un clásico año tras año y buen medidor de talentos cinematográficos emergentes en Andalucía.n

The festival will open on Sunday 9 September, at 8 pm at the Padre Manuel de Estepona Cultural Centre, and the event will consist of the awarding of the ASFAAN Prize (Association of Audiovisual Festivals of Andalusia) to the actor Pepón Nieto, for his representative role as an Andalusian actor in the audiovisual world outside the borders of our autonomous community, and the presentation by the directive of the Argentine film director Gustavo Leonel Mendoza of the documentary Culto al terror (Cult of terror), the opening screening of the Official Section.

Georges Méliès and the cinema of 1900”, an innovative tribute to the producer, director and distributor of more than 500 films between 1896 and 1912, who reigned in the world of the fantastic genre and cinematic trickery during more than twenty years.

A space covering 200 square metres will transport visitors back to the ambience of the early 20th century in order to explain how cinema emerged as a popular phenomenon and what crucial role Méliès played in it. The exhibition, organised by the festival itself, the “Unicornio” Cultural Association, the Council of Estepona and “La Caixa” Social Products, includes reproductions of devices, models, period models and copies of photographs, as well as the screening of several films, with special attention paid to the seminal Le voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon) (1902). RYDER CUP 2018 El trazado parisino de Le Golf National acoge del 28 al 30 de septiembre la edición 2018 de la Ryder Cup, el torneo de golf más mítico de este deporte y que cada dos años enfrenta a los combinados de EUROPA Y ESTADOS UNIDOS. Una edición muy especial y nostálgica para los ‘sotograndinos’, ya que dos décadas después el trofeo vuelve a disputarse, por segunda vez en su historia, en suelo europeo fuera de las Islas Británicas. Camino que abrió en 1997 el Real Club Valderrama.

L

a Ryder Cup permitió en 1997 que el mundo entero pusiese sus ojos en Sotogrande y es ahora cuando el Real Club Valderrama entrega ese prestigioso legado al campo parisino de Le Golf National, próximo escenario del emblemático torneo. El club francés se convertirá así en la segunda sede del torneo en suelo europeo, fuera de las islas británicas, del 28 al 30 de septiembre.

Una noticia, más de dos décadas después, que guarda algo de nostalgia por la magia y la emoción de aquellos años en Sotogrande, en los que todo se multiplicó desde que D. Jaime Ortiz-Patiño consiguiese en el año 1994, tras inagotables esfuerzos, convertir al Real Club Valderrama en el escenario de la Ryder Cup de 1997. Una cita que contó con la

presencia de más de 25.000 asistentes diarios en Valderrama y que llegó a más de 300 millones de telespectadores.

Bajo los mandos y capitanía del gran Severiano Ballesteros, y con la presencia de dos españoles más en el equipo continental: José María Olazábal y Nacho Garrido; el combinado europeo logró una agónica victoria sobre los norteamericanos por 14,5 a 13,5. Un punto diferencial que selló para el recuerdo Colin Montgomerie y que supuso el triunfo sobre un equipo estadounidense en el que ya brillaba un jovencísimo Tiger Woods.

Hoy el testigo lo toman otros nombres propios, encargados de protagonizar un duelo histórico en suelo francés. Para más conexión si cabe, el danés Thomas Bjorn será

el capitán europeo en Le Golf National, un nombre conocido para la afición local ya que Bjorn participó en Valderrama en 1997.

RYDER CUP 2018 - Sotogrande passes on baton to Paris From 28 to 30 September the Parisian course of Le Golf National is hosting the 2018 edition of the Ryder Cup, the most legendary golf tournament in this sport, which sees the European and United States teams face off every two years. This is a very special and nostalgic edition for the people of Sotogrande, as two decades on, the trophy is once again being played, for the second time in its history, on European soil outside of the British Isles. The path was opened up by Real Club Valderrama in 1997.

n 1997 the Ryder Cup made the world turn its gaze on Sotogrande, and now Real Club Valderrama is passing on that prestigious legacy to the Parisian course Le Golf National, the next setting of the emblematic tournament. The French club will thus become the second venue of the tournament on European soil, outside of the British Isles, from 28 to 30 September.

This news, more than two decades later, has a little nostalgia due to the magic and the excitement of those years in Sotogrande, when everything multiplied from the moment that, after endless effort, Mr Jaime Ortiz-Patiño managed in 1994 to make Real Club Valderrama the setting of the Ryder Cup in 1997.

The event was attended by more than 25,000 spectators each day at Valderrama and it was watched on television by more than 300 million viewers. Under the management and captaincy of the great Severiano Ballesteros, and with the presence of two more Spaniards on the European side: José María Olazábal and Nacho Garrido; the European team earned an agonising 14.5-13.5 victory over the Americans. A sin-

gle point that was memorably sealed by Colin Montgomerie, which led to victory over an American side in which an extremely young Tiger Woods was already dazzling.

Today, the baton is taken up by other big names, responsible for starring in an historic duel on French soil. For a further connection, if possible, the Danish player Thomas Bjorn will be the European captain at Le Golf National, a well-known name for local fans as Bjorn participated at Valderrama in 1997.

The golfing industry was undergoing monumental growth while I was studying my degree to become an agricultural technical engineer. That is why, after several visits to different courses, I took the decision to go abroad in order to specialised in sports grass surfaces at the University of Cranfield, where I obtained the MSC in the Technology of Sporting Surfaces. Thus, my first

experience in golf came thanks to a program of grants at the six Jack Nicklaus golf courses at Polaris World provided by the Federation of European Golf Greenkeepers Associations(FEGGA) with the support of Ransomes Jacobsen and Elmwood College.

Thus, I will always be thankful to the agronomic adviser Sylvain Duval and to Dean Cleaver, director of FEGGA for the opportunity they gave me.

La sexta edición del Circuito de Golf Sotogrande avanza viento en popa hacia su gran final. Las últimas dos paradas, celebradas en los campos de ALMENARA Y SAN ROQUE CLUB, subieron el listón del encuentro con dos increíbles jornadas de golf y mucho más.

ompletísima tercera prueba del VI Circuito Golf Sotogrande la disputada en ALMENARA GOLF el pasado 30 de junio.

Los recorridos de Pinos y Lagos brindaron un escenario excepcional para disfrutar del golf en mayúsculas y de Sotogrande por todo lo alto con esta cita que situaba al Circuito en su ecuador.

Sin calor excesivo, pese a rondar julio el calendario, y unos greenes muy rápidos que trajeron algún que otro dolor de cabeza; el casi centenar de golfistas participantes vivieron una emocionante competición con todos los alicientes propios de un gran torneo. Siempre tan carismático y paisajísticamente bello, el trazado de Lagos; con su complicado par 3 y

siempre complejas calles hizo emplearse de lo lindo a los jugadores. Por su parte, Pinos, tan competitivo y complicado, no permitió relajarse ni en un solo hoyo, elevando el listón de una gran prueba del circuito.

Exquisito cóctel y mejor ambiente previo a la celebración de la entrega de premios.

Tras dar buena cuenta con el paladar y justo al tiempo que se abría el córner para degustaciones de Grey Goose y Bombay Sapphire, dio comienzo el protocolario acto de entrega de premios.

En primer lugar, en lo referente a los premios especiales, Carlos Paisas se llevó el de la Bola más cercana, mientras que los ganadores del Drive más largo fueron Marisa ArLA REVISTA DE SOTOGRANDE

tes y Andrei Smetcky, en Damas y Caballeros respectivamente. En Categoría Damas, Beli Romero fue la triunfadora de la jornada, seguida de Danielle Bostroen y Paloma García.

Respecto a la Segunda Categoría Caballeros, Manuel Rodríguez fue el ganador seguido de Thierry Vanlier y Antonio J. Ramírez. Por último, en Primera de Caballeros, la victoria fue para Georges Danthes, seguido de Juan Manuel García y Francisco Funes.

El magnífico recorrido Old Course de San Roque Club dio la bienvenida a los jugadores del encuentro para la celebración de la cuarta prueba, disputada el pasado 21 de julio.

El buen ambiente, las condiciones excepcionales del campo y las altas temperaturas fueron, sin duda, las notas más destacadas de la jornada deportiva.

Desde las nueve de la mañana, el juego se desarrolló en el campo con un nivel exigente, que puso las cosas muy difíciles a los golfistas. El viento, no muy acusado, fue otro de los invitados al encuentro, haciendo que muchas partidas tuvieran que lidiar con él y sus consecuencias en cada hoyo.

Tras varias horas de espectáculo, los jugadores encontraron, como siempre, su recompensa en la Casa Club, donde Grupo HCP los aguardaba con su tradicional cóctel, en el que no faltó el mejor jamón, de manos de Ibéricos Covap, el buen vino, a cargo de Marqués de Riscal, y los combinados más refrescantes, getileza de Grey Goose y Bombay Sapphire.

mios. La Bola más cercana fue para Juan Manuel García Vega y el Drive más largo, indistinto, lo ganó Marisa Artés Carrasco.

En Damas, el primer premio fue para Marta Carrillo, seguida de María Luisa Artes y Sandra Hilinger. En Segunda de Caballeros, el primer puesto lo obtuvo Juan Vaquero, seguido, en segunda y tercera posición, por Francisco López y Pablo Ollero. La Primera Categoría de Caballeros, se la llevó Dan Bannister, acompañado en el podium por Antonio Cidoncha y Sergio Ruiz (segundo y tercero respectivamente).

The sixth edition of the Sotogrande Golf Circuit is progressing smoothly towards it grand finale. The last two stops, held at the courses of ALMENARA AND SAN ROQUE CLUB, raised the bar for the event with two incredible days of golf and much more. The most talked about events of the summer for enthusiasts in Sotogrande.

very complete third event of the VI Sotogrande Golf Circuit took place at ALMENARA GOLF on 30 June. The Pinos and Lagos courses offered an exceptional setting for enjoying top-class golf and Sotogrande in real style with this event that marked the halfway point of the Circuit.

Without excessive heat, despite nearing July in the calendar, and very quick greens that caused the odd headache; the almost one hundred golfers who participated enjoyed an exciting competition with all the incentives of a great tournament. The always charming and beautifully landscaped Lagos course with its difficult par 3 and always difficult fairways made players display their most beautiful play. In turn, Pinos, so com-

petitive and difficult, did not allow any relaxation at any of the holes, and also raised the bar of a great event of the circuit.

There was an exquisite cocktail and the best atmosphere before the awards ceremony took place. From nine in the morning, the game took place on the course with a demanding level, that made things difficult for the golfers. The wind, which was not too sharp, was another of the guests at the event, and meant that many of the rounds had to battle against it and its consequences at each hole.

After several hours of the spectacle, as always, the players enjoyed their reward at the Club House, where Grupo HCP awaited them with its traditional cocktail, which did not lack the best ham, provided by Ibéricos Covap, good wine, courtesy of Marqués de Riscal, and the most refreshing mixed drinks, courtesy of Grey Goose and Bombay Sapphire.

And, having regained the energy they had used up in the battle, it was time for the prizes. The Closest Ball prize went to Juan Manuel García Vega and the Longest Drive Prize, again was won by Marisa Artés Carrasco.

In the Women´s Category, first prize went to Marta Carrillo, followed by María Luisa Artés and Sandra Hilinger.
