maginar los contenidos de la última edición del año es, siempre, un momento emotivo en la redacción. Al coincidir con las fiestas navideñas, nos encanta engalanar y copar las páginas de La Revista de Sotogrande de regalos, sueños y buenas intenciones. Lo hacemos, sin embargo, con los ojos ya puestos en el 2018 y en los muchos proyectos que nos aguardan durante este nuevo año.

Les invitamos, pues, a disfrutar de un número cargado de moda, tendencias, decoración, regalos, gastronomía, y un sin fin de ideas más con las que disfrutar de la vida todo el año y más aún, si cabe, en Navidad.

magining the content of the last edition of the year is always an emotive moment for the editorial team. As it coincides with the Christmas holidays, we love to festoon and pack the pages of Sotogrande Magazine with gifts, dreams and good intentions. However, we do so looking forward to 2018 and lots of projects that await during the new year.

We thus invite you to enjoy an edition filled with fashion, trends, décor, gifts, gastronomy, and an endless range of more ideas for enjoying life right throughout the year and even more so, if possible, at Christmas.

Also, we have not forgotten to talk to you about golf. And the fact is that the last stage of the year has been relatively packed with events linked to this sport.

We are delighted that this is the case and we hope it is the same next year.

HASTA SIEMPRE Al cierre de esta edición fallecía, a los 67 años de edad, uno de los personajes más queridos de Sotogrande: Miguel Preysler.

La historia de la urbanización estaría incompleta sin un capítulo dedicado a él. Sirvan estas líneas como pequeño homenaje.

Que descanse en paz.

a pasada primavera Miguel Preysler nos recibía en el Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande para conceder a La Revista de Sotogrande una de sus últimas entrevistas. Una interesante charla sobre la historia de Sotogrande narrada por uno de sus protagonistas. Sin duda, todo un privilegio.

Preysler llegó a Sotogrande en 1977 desde Manila, donde trabajaba para Ayala Corporation. Al principio, comenzó como asistente de Jose María Olvés y, cuando este se jubiló, tomó su relevo como director general de Sotogrande.

«Cuando vivía en Filipinas jugaba al golf con el equipo nacional, pero al comenzar a trabajar lo dejé por falta de tiempo. Al llegar a la urbanización, el Real Club de Golf me devolvió mi gran pasión por este deporte»

aquella que le hizo reencontrarse con la vela: «Al llegar a Sotogrande me encontré cinco catamaranes en la playa y un pantalán que se llevaba el mar cuando había temporales. Se me ocurrió, entonces, hacer una regata y hablé con Antonio Muñoz para llevarlo a cabo. Hicimos tres boyas caseras y pusimos en marcha nuestra particular regata. Al año siguiente, Muñoz logró que se comprasen cuarenta catamaranes... Hicimos muchas competiciones, fue muy divertido. De alguna manera, se podría decir que ese fue el germen de la vela en Sotogrande», señalaba.

Sotogrande también le devolvió su amor por el golf: «Cuando vivía en Filipinas jugaba al golf con el equipo nacional, pero al comenzar a trabajar lo dejé por falta de tiempo. Al llegar a la urbanización, el Real Club de Golf me devolvió mi gran pasión por este deporte», explicaba entusiasmado.

Golfísticamente hablando, Miguel Preysler de la Riva fue uno de los deportistas más destacados de categoría senior de la historia de España. Ganador de la Copa de Andalucía en 1990, en su haber figuran los títulos de campeón de España Senior en 2005, 2006, 2007 y 2015 –su último triunfo de carácter nacional–, además de acabar primero en el Internacional de España Senior en los años 2004, 2005 y 2009.

Su victoria más destacada se produjo en 2006 en el recorrido portugués de Ribagolfe, donde se adjudicó el Campeonato de Europa Senior Individual Masculino. En su amplio palmarés golfístico figuran, asimismo, los triunfos en el Campeonato de España para Mayores de 30 años (1994, 1995, 1998, 1999 y 2001) o el Campeonato de España Dobles Senior en 2015, entre otros muchos.

Precisamente, relacionado con el golf es otro de los episodios que recordaba con estima. Concretamente, el de cómo consiguió convencer a Mc Micking para que dejase jugar a los caddies de Guadiaro en el campo de golf Las Aves (hoy Valderrama):

Su victoria más destacada se produjo en 2006 en el recorrido portugués de Ribagolfe, donde se adjudicó el Campeonato de Europa Senior Individual Masculino.

«En 1977 había muchos caddies que querían jugar al golf en Valderrama, pero no se les dejaba. Este asunto creó cierto malestar en la zona. Le dije a Mc Micking que con ese mal ambiente no íbamos a vender propiedades y que dejase jugar a la gente. Así, organicé un club con Andres Moncayo a la cabeza y con unas reglas y horarios muy concretos. Si alguien incumplía las normas se acababa el juego

para todo el club y para siempre. Nunca fallaron...», recordaba orgulloso el sotograndino.

En 1984 Miguel Preysler dejaría de ser director de Sotogrande. El problema es que ya se había enamorado de la urbanización y, en junio del 86, regresó a ella y montó la inmobiliaria Holmes, junto al inglés Ian Bateman, con quien trabajó muchos años.

Hasta hace pocos meses, el ex directivo disfrutaba de la vida junto a su mujer en Sotogrande. Una urbanización a la que llegó por motivos laborales y en la que se quedó para siempre: «Sotogrande son cuarenta años de mi vida. Viajo a Filipinas de visita, pero mi casa está aquí; me siento sotograndino y pienso quedarme aquí para siempre», concluía el golfista aquella emotiva entrevista, que ahora recordamos como muestra de cariño de los miembros de esta redacción hacia su persona.

UNTIL FOREVER As this edition went to print, one of Sotogrande´s most beloved figures passed away at the age of 67: Miguel Preysler. The history of the resort would be incomplete without a chapter devoted to him. May these lines serve as a little tribute.

ast spring, Miguel Preysler greeted us at Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande to give Sotogrande Magazine one of his last interviews. It was an interesting conversation about the history of Sotogrande narrated by one of its key figures. Undoubtedly a real privilege.

Preysler come to Sotogrande in 1977 from Manila, where he was working for Ayala Corporation. At the start, he began as an assistant to Jose María Olvés, and when the latter retired, he took over as director general of Sotogrande.

Miguel remembered every moment and experience of his early days in So-

togrande in great detail, such as the experience that brought him back into contact with sailing. “When I arrived

in Sotogrande I found five catamarans on the beach and a pontoon that would get ripped out by the sea during storms. I then thought about holding a regatta and I spoke to Antonio Muñoz in order to make it happen. We made three homemade buoys and we launched our own regatta. The following year, Muñoz managed to purchase forty catamarans... We held a lot of competitions, it was really fun. In a kind of way, it could be said that this was the origin of sailing in Sotogrande”, he pointed out.

Sotogrande also restored his love of golf. “When I lived in the Philippines I

played golf with the national team, but when I started working I stopped due to a lack of time. When I came to the resort, Real Club de Golf restored my great passion for the sport”, he explained enthusiastically.

In terms of golf, Miguel Preysler de la Riva was one of the most outstanding sportsmen in the senior category in the history of Spain. Winner of the Andalucía Cup in 1990, he holds the Senior Spanish champion titles for 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2015 -his last was a national title-, he also finished first in the Senior International Spanish title in 2004, 2005 and 2009.

His most outstanding victory came in 2006 at the Portuguese course of Ribagolfe, where he won the Men’s Singles European Senior Championship. His extensive golfing trophy cabinet also features wins in the Spanish Championship for Over 30´s (1994, 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2001) and the Spanish Senior Doubles Championship in 2015, among many others.

Indeed, another of the episodes he remembers warmly is linked to golf.

Specifically, how he managed to convince McMicking to allow the Guadia-

ro caddies to play on Las Aves course (now Valderrama): “In 1977 there were lots of caddies that wanted to play golf in Valderrama, but they were not allowed. That issue created a certain discontent in the

area. I told McMicking that with that bad atmosphere we were not going to sell properties and that he should let people play. So, I organised a club led

by Andres Moncayo and with very specific rules and timetables. If anyone disobeyed the rules, play would stop for

the entire club and forever. They never slipped up...”, the Sotogrande local remembered proudly.

In 1984 Miguel Preysler left his role as director general of Sotogrande. The problem is that he had already fallen in love with Sotogrande and, in June ´86 he returned to the resort and set up the Holmes estate agency, alongside the Englishman Ian Bateman, with whom he worked for many years.

Up until just a few months ago, the former executive was enjoying life alongside his wife in Sotogrande. It is a resort that he came to for work reasons, and where he remained in order to enjoy the quality of life of a unique place.

“Sotogrande has been forty years of my life. I visit the Philippines, buy my home is here; I feel like a Sotogrande local and I want to stay here forever”, concluded the golfer in that emotive interview, which we the members of this editorial team are now recalling as a sign of our affection towards him.

EL SELLO ÚNICO DE SOTOGRANDE CORONA UN AÑO DE LUJO Sotogrande hizo disfrutar a sus residentes de un año espectacular, cargado de grandes eventos deportivos, experiencias y momentos excepcionales entre amigos y familia firmados con el sello único de esta urbanización. Echamos la vista atrás para volver a disfrutar de un 2017 inolvidable. Un nuevo capítulo en la notable historia de Sotogrande:

a llegada del buen tiempo trajo a Sotogrande un espectacular rally de cinco días que llenó la urbanización de coches antiguos y automóviles GT. El Grand Prix de Sotogrande comenzó su ruta de 900 kilómetros en Sevilla, para continuar por Córdoba, y terminar en Sotogrande, donde los asistentes disfrutaron de un gran número de eventos y propuestas, como el Concours d'Elegance, diversas cenas de gala y ceremonias de entrega de premios.

ocupase un papel protagonista en el calendario de la urbanización, con competiciones internacionales de vela como la J/80 y RC44. Como cada año, Sotogrande SA estuvo presente en la XVII Copa Sotogrande, la tradicional regata que la urbanización celebra en verano. El año pasado, el tramo mediterráneo de Sotogrande también acogió la regata de catamaranes de alta velocidad GC32, inmediatamente después de la etapa en Palma de Mallorca, con la Copa del Rey MAPFRE.

LA RESERVA CLUB La Reserva Club, el escenario encargado de continuar con el legado de golf de Sotogrande, fue durante 2017 el punto de encuentro de los amantes de este deporte que acudieron a disfrutar no solo de unas instalaciones de clase mundial y unas vistas envidiables, sino también de la experiencia del campeón de Ryder Cup, Manuel Piñero. El jugador es el profesional residente de La Reserva Club y ofrece a los jugadores la oportunidad de participar en clínics de golf dirigidos e impartidos por él mismo.

El verano pasado, La Reserva Club abrió, además, cinco nuevas pistas de pádel y una cancha multideporte que se agregó a las cuatro canchas de tenis ya existentes. Un espacio recreativo que en poco tiempo se ha convertido en uno de los favoritos de la urbanización, donde los residentes acuden a disfrutar de partidos amistosos durante todo el año o a mejorar su juego como parte de un programa de entrenamiento personalizado en la Academia de Tenis.

go listado de experiencias, completaron una temporada de verano en La Reserva Club, sin duda, inolvidable.

La Reserva Club ha sido concebida para ofrecer lo mejor en estilo de vida familiar. Se esperan numerosos progresos para el próximo año, con el Club de Playa y la piscina de arena como principales atractivos.

he arrival of the good weather brought a spectacular five-day really to Sotogrande which filled the resort classic cars and GT vehicles.

The Sotogrande Grand Prix began its 900 kilometre route in Seville, continuing through Cordoba, and finishing in Sotogrande, where those attending enjoyed a large number of events and attractions, such as the Concours d´Elegance, gala dinner and prize giving ceremonies.

“The Sotogrande Grand Prix is the following step in the transformation of Sotogrande. This destination is perfect for enjoying exceptional experiences and moments, and it is also an ideal place for connecting and relaxing with family and friends”, explained Marc Topiol, CEO of Sotogrande SA.

AT FULL SAIL Sailing has been one of the pillars of Sotogrande since its origins. Thus, it is not surprising that this sport plays a leading role in the resort´s calendar, with international J/80 and RC44 competitions. Like every year, Sotogrande SA supported the XVII Sotogrande Cup, the traditional race that the resort holds in summer. Last year, the Mediterranean stage in Sotogrande also hosted the high-speed GC32 catamarans race, immediately following the stage in Palma de Mallorca, Copa del Rey MAPFRE. ers of this sport, who came to enjoy not only the world class facilities and enviable views, but also the experience of the Ryder Cup champion Manuel Piñero The player is the resident professional, and he offers players the chance to participate in specialised golf clinics under his experience.

Last summer, La Reserva Club also opened five new padel courts and a multiple-purpose course to add to the four already existing tennis courts.

Within a short space of time, this recreational space has become one of the favourite in the resort, a place that residents and members come to enjoy friendly games throughout the year or to improve their game as part of a personalised training program at the Tennis Academy.

Cuban nights and a long list of more experiences completed a summer season at La Reserva Club, that was undoubtedly unforgettable.

La Reserva Club has been devised in this manner to offer the best in family lifestyle. Several advances are expected for next year, with the Beach Club and the natural pool as the main attractions.

The icing on the cake was the White Party at La Reserva, which took place on 9 August and which was the great event of the summer, that everyone talked about for weeks. The large number of guests had a great time, enjoying all kinds of gastronomic delights, live music, juggling acts, magic shows and DJ´s who livened up the dance floor.

EL MERCADO DE LEVANTE In turn, once again this year the Mercado de Levante returned during August to delight residents and visitors with tapas, and authentic street food. There was something for everyone among the warmth of this dynamic community in the heart of Sotogrande.

AUTUMN OF GOLF When autumn arrived, golf once again took centre stage, as has been customary since yesteryear in Sotogrande. The third edition of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters took place at Real Club Valderrama de Sotogrande from 19 to 22 October.

Taking advantage of this exciting event, La Reserva Club has the pleasure of hosting a Pro-A tournament for special guests. This Pro-Am also involved some of the players of the European Tour such as Romain Langasque, Adrian Otaegui, Paul Maddy and David Howell.

El nuevo fenómeno

POP Acaba de ver la luz tu tercer álbum, “A un milímetro de ti”. ¿Qué trae de nuevo este trabajo?

Un sonido muy evolucionado y que tenía muchísimas ganas de hacer. Es un disco producido en Los Ángeles con Mauricio Rengifo, Andrés Torres y David Santisteban, con el que además he tenido la suerte de compartir algunos de los temas como compositor. Estoy muy contento porque creo que hemos obtenido el resultado esperado. Ha sido una experiencia fantástica.

“Me hace falta” es el primer single compuesto por ti junto a David Santisteban. ¿Qué nos cuentas en esta canción?

Es una canción muy especial para mí. Es una historia de amor y desamor, de desencuentro. Él se queda enganchado y ella va perdiendo esa magia que luego desemboca en otra canción, también incluida en este disco que se llama “Odiame”, y que es como una continuación de esta historia. Así lo quise hacer y como no lo podía decir todo en una, he hecho dos.

Ahora te encuentras de lleno con la promoción del disco, ¿para cuándo está prevista la gira?

Con la gira empezaremos a principios de la primavera. Estaremos por toda España. La verdad es que estoy deseando.

Meternos de lleno en la preparación, en la producción, en cómo será… Deseando de contar cosas.

A pesar de tu juventud llevas muchos años dedicados a la música. ¿Qué balance haces?

Un balance positivo que me ha llevado a estar ahora mismo en un punto muy bonito, súper dulce de mi carrera y también de mi vida personal.

Es cierto que esta posición ha sido por un trabajo que he venido haciendo desde hace muchos años. He luchado mucho durante toda mi vida para encontrarme en este punto y tener la oportunidad de poder estar haciendo lo que me gusta. Poder compartirlo ahora con mi gente es lo más maravilloso que me ha podido pasar.

ESCUCHO DE TODO. Me gustan muchísimos géneros: FLAMENCO, METAL, HIP HOP, ROCK… Creo que es importante para luego intentar, de alguna manera, llevar esas melodías a mi música, obviamente, con mi sonido y con MI MANERA DE VER A LA MÚSICA.

UNA CARRERA HACIA EL ÉXITO Antonio José (Palma del Río, 1995) se ha convertido en menos de tres años en el artista emergente pop más importante del país. Tras su paso por el talent show de TV, es uno de los artistas que ha demostrado tener una carrera sólida y con posibilidades de consolidación en España y desarrollo en Latinoamérica. Avalado por una legión de seguidores en sus firmas, conciertos y redes sociales, posee cuatro discos de platino y un disco de oro. Antonio José sigue creciendo y evolucionando personal y artísticamente, involucrado al cien por cien en la composición de sus canciones y colaborando habitualmente con grandes compositores o compartiendo escenario con artistas del panorama actual como Antonio Orozco, Pablo López o Carlos Rivera.

¿Cómo ha cambiado tu vida desde que ganaste La Voz? Sobre todo en el tiempo (ríe). Tener muy poco tiempo para ti, estar siempre fuera de casa, lejos de tu familia…, pero bueno, yo siempre he dicho que sarna con gusto no pica y cuando estás haciendo lo que más amas pues a veces hay que sacrificarse. Pero lo llevo bien.

Tu paso por La Voz te ha permitido conocer y compartir escenario con muchos artistas a los que admiras. ¿Con quién te gustaría cantar?

Efectivamente, he tenido la suerte de compartir escenario con muchísimos artistas a los que he admirado siempre, pero me he criado con la música de Alejandro Sanz y, sin duda alguna, me encantaría poder compartir escenario alguna vez con él.n

De no haberte dedicado a la música, ¿qué estarías haciendo ahora?

Estaba preparándome para ser profesor de Educación Física. Me hubiera gustado hacer eso o haber sido futbolista que es otra de mis pasiones. ¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre?

Pues, principalmente, hacer música, seguir formándome musicalmente. Y sobre todo cuando tengo un ratito de tiempo me gusta dedicárselo a mi familia y disfrutar con ellos todo lo que estoy viviendo. ¿Qué tipo de música te gusta escuchar?

Escucho de todo. Me gustan muchísimos géneros: flamenco, metal, hip hop, rock… Creo que es importante para luego intentar ,de alguna manera, llevar esas melodías a mi música, obviamente con mi sonido y con mi manera de ver la música.

The winner of “The Voice” is on tour promoting his new album ‘A un milímetro de ti’ (A millimetre from you), his most special project that he has devoted everything to. We met up with him at the exclusive Alfonso XIII hotel in the Andalusian capital to talk about his new album, his upcoming projects and how his life has changed over the last few years.

You have just released your third album, “A un milímetro de ti”. What is new in this project?

It has a very evolved sound and I really wanted to make it. The record was produced in Los Angeles with Mauricio Rengifo, Andrés Torres and David Santiesteban, with whom I was also lucky to work on composing some of the songs with. I am very happy because I think we have achieved the result we were hoping for. It has been a fantastic experience.

“Me hace falta” is the first single created by you alongside David Santisteban. What is the song about?

It is a very special song for me? It is a story about love and disaffection, and discord. He gets hooked and she slowly loses that magic that then leads to another song, also included in this album called “Odiame”, which is like a continuation of that story. That is what I wanted to do, and as I couldn´t say it all in one song, I made two.

You are now immersed in the promotion of the record, when is the tour planned for?

We will begin the tour at the start of spring. We will be going around all of Spain. I am really looking forward to it. Really getting stuck into preparation, production, imagining what it will be like...

Wanting to tell stories.

Despite being young, you have been devoted to music for many years. What is your assessment?

I view it positively, it has got me to where I am now, a really good place, a really great point in my career and also my personal life.

It is true that this position is due to work that I have been carrying out for many years. I have fought a lot during my life to reach this point and have the opportunity to do what I like.

To be able to share it now with my people is the best thing that could have happened to me.

A CAREER HEADING TOWARDS SUCCESS In less than three years, Antonio José (Palma del Río, 1995) has become the most emerging pop artist in the country. After his time on the TV talent show, he is one of the artist that has emerged with a solid career and the opportunity to consolidate his position in Spain and to develop in Latin America.

Backed a legion of followers of his brands, concerts and social networks, it has four platinum albums and a gold album.

Antonio José continues to grow and evolve personally and artistically, involved one hundred percent in the composition of his songs and regularly collaborating with big composers and sharing a stage with artists from the current scene such as Antonio Orozco, Pablo López and Carlos Rivera.

How has your life changed since you won The Voice?

Especially in terms of time (laughs). Having very little time for yourself, always being away from home, far from your family...but well, I have always said that it is really worth the effort and when you are doing what you love then sometimes you have to make sacrifices. But I deal with it well.

If you had not devoted yourself to music, what would you be doing now?

I was training to become a Physical Education teacher.

I would have liked to do that or being a footballer is another of my passions.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

Well, mainly, making music, and continuing to train musically. And above all, when I have a little time I like to devote it to my family and enjoy what I am experiencing with them.

What type of music do you like listening to?

I listen to everything. I like a lot of genres: flamenco, metal, hip hop, rock...I think it is important to then try in one way or another to incorporate those melodies into my music, obviously with my sound and with my way of seeing music.

Indeed, I was lucky to share a stage with lots of artists that I have always admired but I grew up with the music of Alejandro Sanz and undoubtedly, I would love to share the stage with him sometime. n

La República Checa es un país fascinante, que merece la pena descubrir. Un destino romántico y vanguardista, que ofrece siglos de historia y cultura en cada una de sus ciudades. Una escapada de invierno al corazón de Europa.

C

ualquier viaje al país checo ha de incluir, de manera indiscutible, una visita a Praga. Da igual las veces que uno la recorra, que siempre encontrará un nuevo rincón del que enamorarse. Aunque, la República Checa ofrece otros muchos tesoros que merece la pena descubrir. Las ciudades de Cesky Krumlov y Olomuc son dos de ellos.

Planificamos una ruta exprés por estas tres maravillas para disfrutar de un viaje que, en algunas ocasiones, se nos antojará estar realizando en una auténtica máquina del tiempo.

PRAGA La ciudad de Praga es una de las más impresionantes de Europa. Capaz de embrujar al visitante y cautivarlo eternamente con su vasta belleza.

Denominada la ciudad de las cien torres, solo por contemplar su silueta, merecerá la pena viajar hasta Praga. Una visita en la que no puede faltar una parada en su Castillo, la fortificación medieval más grande del mundo con unos jardines palaciegos que parecen haber sido sacados de un cuento.

Otro de los lugares más fascinantes de Praga es la Plaza de

la Ciudad Vieja. Aunque, el lugar está rodeado de todo tipo de edificios de interés como el Ayuntamiento (con su famoso reloj astronómico en el que cada hora en punto los Apóstoles salen a pasear para agrado de cientos de curiosos), nuestra recomendación es olvidarse por un rato de la guía de viaje y, simplemente, perderse por las callejuelas para sumergirse en un paseo inolvidable.

Muy cerca de la plaza se encuentra el barrio judío, otro de los lugares imprescindibles de la ciudad. Su viejo cementerio y sus sinagógas ofrecen dos opciones muy interesantes con las que enriquecer el viaje, sobre todo, la sinagoga española, donde se asentaron los judíos expulsados por Isabel la Católica, y la Sinagoga Pinkas, donde será imposible no emocionarse al contemplar los más de ochenta mil nombres de judíos checos que murieron durante el nazismo escritos a mano en sus paredes.

El toque romántico de esta escapada lo encontraremos recorriendo el majestuoso Puente de Carlos al amanecer, disfrutando a cada paso de las más de treinta esculturas que acompañan al visitante en su caminar y de entre las que destaca el San Juan de Nepomuceno.

A dos horas en coche de Praga se encuentra Ceský Krumlov, una encantadora ciudad perfecta para los amantes de la tranquilidad.

No hay que dejar de conocer, asimismo, el barrio de Karlín, que ha dejado de ser uno de los suburbios industriales de Praga para convertirse en una de las zonas más de moda de la ciudad. La restauración de edificios y la construcción de otros nuevos ha hecho proliferar bares y restaurantes que se concentran sobre todo alrededor de la plaza Lyckovo Namesti conformando el punto de encuentro de la ciudad.Para finalizar el día, una magnífica opción será subir al mirador de Petřín para adminar, por última vez, la belleza de Praga perdiendo la vista entre sus torres, tejados y chimeneas. Eso sí, aunque la recompensa es grande, para llegar a esta cumbre habrá que subir 299 escalones.

CESKY KRUMLOV A dos horas en coche de Praga se encuentra Ceský Krumlov, una encantadora ciudad perfecta para los amantes de la tranquilidad.

Pasear entre sus estrechas y laberínticas calles será la mejor forma de descubrir una ciudad que parece trasladar al visitante a otro tiempo. Pocos lugares han sabido conservar su carácter medieval y renacentista hasta nuestros días como Cesky Krumlov, envuelta en una tranquilidad difícil de describir y que sólo experimentan aquellos que la visitan.

La Ciudad Vieja, dentro del meandro que forma el río Moldava; el barrio Latrán, y el Castillo de la ciudad, son los tres grandes puntos de interés en los que centrar cualquier visita.

Aunque si lo que se busca es obtener una mirada diferente

del lugar, una buena idea será recorrerla en barco por el río Moldava, desde el que el puente del Castillo o la iglesia gótica de San Vito, construida en 1407, ofrecerán una imagen singular.

OLOMOUC La tercera y última ciudad que conforma esta escapada de invierno es la capital de Moravia Central: Olomouc, la segunda reserva monumental urbana más importante de la República Checa.

La belleza de esta ciudad milenaria le permite competir, no sólo con Praga, sino con muchos otros destinos turísticos europeos.

Entre sus inagotables atractivos, más allá de lo monumental, llama la atención el gran número de parques que salpican la ciudad, perfectos para descansar un rato y disfrutar en clave natural.

Otra curiosidad de esta ciudad es su reloj astronómico, tan interesante como el de Praga y mucho menos masificado.

Named the city of one hundred towers, it is worth travelling to Prague just to see its silhouette. Any visit must include a stop at its Castle, the largest medieval fortification in the world with palatial gardens that could come from a fairy tale.

Another of the most fascinating places in Prague is the Old Town Square. However, the place is surrounded by all kinds of buildings of interest as well as the Council (with its famous astronomical clock where every hour on the hour the Apostles emerge to walk around to the delights of hundreds of curious bystanders), our recommendation is to forget about the guide book for a while and simply lose yourself among the small streets to immerse yourself in an unforgettable walk.

Very close to the plaza is the Jewish quarter, another of the must-visit places in the city. Its old cemetery and its synagogues offer two very interesting options to enrich your trip, especially, the Spanish synagogue, where the Jews expelled by Isabella I of Castile settled and the Pinkas Synagogue, where will it will be impossible not to be moved by looking at the more than eighty thousand names of Czech Jews that died during Nazism whose names are handwritten on the walls.

The Romantic touch to this getaway will be added by going for a walk along the majestic Charles Bridge at dawn, enjoying with every step the more than thirty sculptures that accompany visitors on their walk, among which the one of St. John of Nepomuk really stands out.

Also, you should not miss out on the chance to discover the neighbourhood of Karlin, which has gone from being one of the industrial suburbs of Prague to one of the most fashionable areas in the city.

incuenta años después de que Yves Saint Laurent descubriese en Marrakech su principal fuente de inspiración, la ciudad se rinde ante el modisto con la apertura de un impresionante museo. ifty years after Yves Saint Laurent discovered Marrakech to be his main source of inspiration, the city is paying tribute to the fashion designer with the opening of an impressive museum. A new mustsee location to add to any visit to this destination, regardless of whether you are a fashion lover.

Located just a few metres from the famous Majorelle Garden 8a marvellous oasis of green and indigo that has become one of the greatest tourism attractions in Morocco and owned

A work by Studio Ko, based in Paris, the building, avant-garde but with traditional Moroccan touches, is “stitch perfect”.

esde el momento en que los visitantes entran en Harry Potter: The Exhibition se sumergen de lleno en el universo de Harry Potter. Un miembro de la exposición da la bienvenida a los visitantes y selecciona a algunos afortunados para formar parte de su casa favorita en Hogwarts. A continuación, les guía para que inicien su recorrido por la exposición, que comienza con un viaje por las escenas favoritas de las películas. La exposición incorpora algunas de las localizaciones más populares de las cintas, incluyendo la sala común y el dormitorio de Gryffindor, aulas como la de Pociones o Herbología, y el Bosque Prohibido. A su vez, estos escenarios contienen miles de objetos de atrezo, trajes y criaturas fantásticas

que fueron utilizados durante el rodaje de la icónica saga.

THE EXHIBITION Fans of Harry Potter are in luck. The magical world of J.K. Rowling is coming to Madrid for a few weeks with Harry Potter: The Exhibition. The perfect plan for this Christmas.

F

rom the moment that visitors enter Harry Potter: The Exhibition they are fully immersed in the Harry Potter universe. A member of the exhibition team welcomes the visitors and selects some lucky people to form part of their favourite house at Hogwarts. Then, he guides them to begin their journey to the Exhibition, which begins with a trip around the favourite scenes of the Harry Potter films. The exhibition includes some of the most popular locations from the films, including the Gryffindor common room and dorm, classrooms such as that of Potions and Herbology, and the Forbidden Forest. In turn, these sets contain thousands of props, costumes and fantastic creatures that were used during the filming of the iconic saga.

It also includes several interactive elements, such as extracting a Mandrake from a flower pot in Herbology class or even heading to Hagrid´s cabin and sitting on his gigantic seat.

The exhibition runs at IFEMA until 18 January. This is a unique chance, as Madrid is the only Spanish stop on the exhibition´s European tour. Since its world premiere in Chicago, the exhibition has received more than 4 million visitors and has toured through Boston, Toronto, Seattle, New York, Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo, Paris, Shanghai, Brussels and Holland. RETRATOS DE SOCIEDAD La artista Rita Martorell lleva más de veinte años dibujando en sus lienzos los rostros más conocidos de la sociedad. Ahora, algunos de esos retratos han sido reunidos en ‘Retratista del alma’. Un libro al que asomarse para descubrir la mirada de esta suiza capaz de capturar el alma de sus modelos a base de pinceladas.

Una obra, con prólogo de Eduardo Punset (al que también ha dibujado), en la que la artista incluye, además, a diversos personajes de la jet marbellí, como Gunilla von Bismarky o el fundador y presidente honorífico de La Zagaleta, Enrique Pérez Flores.

Según explica la artista a La Revista de Sotogrande, sus retratos son obras de personajes que, además de destacar en uno u otro ámbito, han despertado en ella interés por algún aspecto de su personalidad. Asegura que, solo si hay emoción será posible plasmar en el lienzo algo más que un simple retrato.

ARTISTA DESDE LOS 21 AÑOS Desde su primera exposición individual en Barcelona en el 1992, con tan sólo 21 años, Rita Martorell ha recorrido galerías de arte y museos de diversos países. Ha expuesto obras en el Cervantes de Tel Aviv, el Museo Kampa de la República Checa, el Parlamento Europeo de Estrasburgo, la Fundación Mudima de Milán, el IVAM de Valencia, la Colección de Arte del Bundestag, el Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá y el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Fortaleza, en Brasil, entre otros.

Ahora, Martorell está preparando dos nuevos proyectos, en Madrid y en Bucarest, los dos centrados en retratos de rostros públicos como Alexander Grinberg o Petre Roman.

Además, no descarta comenzar a trabajar con algún personaje de Sotogrande el próximo verano. Habrá que esperar para saber con quién...n

PORTRAITS OF SOCIETY The artist Rita Martorell has spent more than twenty years depicting society´s most well-known faces on her canvases. Now, some of those portraits have been brought together in “Retratista del alma” (Portraitist of the Soul). This is a book to delve into in order to discover the gaze of this Swiss artist capable of capturing the soul of her models in brushstrokes.

AN ARTIST SINCE THE AGE OF 21 Since her first individual exhibition in Barcelona in 1992, aged just 21, Rita Martorell has featured in art galleries and museums in different countries. She has exhibited works at the Cervantes Institute in Tel Aviv, the Kampa Museum in the Czech Republic, the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the Mudima Foundation in Milan, the IVAM in Valencia, the Art Collection of the Bundestage, the Bogota Museum of Modern Art and the Fortaleza Museum of Contemporary Art, in Brazil, among others.

A todos nos resulta muy doloroso lo que está sucediendo en Cataluña. Especialmente a los que, como es mi caso, hemos tenido y tenemos una estrecha vinculación con esa región. Y muy especialmente si esa vinculación está relacionada con lugares emblemáticos del catalanismo histórico que tan pródigamente nos han mostrado los medios de comunicación: palacio del Gobierno catalán, la Fosa de las Moreras, el Museo de la Historia y la Memoria del Born, la Ciudadela, el Parlamento, etc. Todos estos lugares me resultan especialmente familiares desde que, durante años, mi hijo Jesús fue jefe del sector audiovisual del Liceo de Barcelona, puesto que actualmente es difícil imaginar que pueda ser desempeñado por alguien no catalán.

E

n esa época mi hijo vivía en el Paseo Picasso, justo enfrente del parque de la Ciudadela y a apenas cincuenta metros del actual Museo de la Historia y la Memoria del Born, que hace unos años era el Mercado del Born, cerrado por haber aparecido allí unos restos arqueológicos y pendiente de obras de conservación y/o de instalación de un museo no se sabía muy bien de qué. Hoy es un museo emblemático del catalanismo por contener los restos del antiguo barrio de la Ribera, destruido después de la batalla de 1714 para construir las nuevas defensas de Barcelona, centradas especialmente en la Ciudadela, un gran baluarte defensivo mandado construir por

Velipe V y realizado bajo proyecto y dirección de Jorge Próspero Verboom.

Verboom, ya es casualidad, había nacido en Bruselas, la misma ciudad en la que está huido (cuando escribo este artículo) de la justicia española (exiliado según su versión) el ex presidente Puigdemont. Fue llamado a España por Felipe V para formar el cuerpo de ingenieros y diseñar nuevos sistemas defensivos, especialmente en aquellos lugares que habían resultado más conflictivos en la Guerra de Sucesión española entre Felipe V de Anjou y el emperador Carlos de Austria. Y, precisamente, esos lugares eran Cataluña (especialmente Barcelona) y la Bahía de Gibraltar, ciudad y Peñón arrebata-

dos por Inglaterra a España en 1704, en el transcurso de dicha guerra.

De esta forma Verboom fue el constructor de la Ciudadela, odiada por los barceloneses, a los que les fue cedida por el general Prim. Destruida en 1869, en su lugar se construyó el parque de la Ciudadela, en donde se celebró en 1888 la Exposición Universal de Barcelona. De los edificios realizados por Verboom se conservan el antiguo arsenal, en el que tras el restablecimiento de la democracia se estableció en Parlamento, el antiguo palacio del gobernador en el que vivía Verboom y la actual capilla castrense en donde fue enterrado. Todos estos escenarios me resultan muy familiares. Para mí

fue doloroso ver televisadas determinadas escenas cerca del Parlamento en las que se veía la casa en la que vivió mi hijo Jesús.

El propio ingeniero fue el encargado de diseñar el sistema defensivo de la Bahía de Gibraltar y la propia línea de contravalación del istmo, origen de la actual Línea de la Concepción. Era un sistema defensivo que iba desde la playa de poniente, en donde estaba el fuerte de San Felipe y la de levante, donde estaba el fuerte de Santa Bárbara, cuyos restos todavía pueden verse. Entre ellos había diferentes construcciones defensivas. Asimismo diseñó un sistema defensivo de diversas torres a lo largo de la Bahía, hasta

el fuerte del Tormo, más allá de Punta Carnero.

El paralelismo de Verboom en Cataluña y el Campo de Gibraltar en construcciones defensivas tiene su prolongación en diseños urbanísticos. En Barcelona diseñó La Barceloneta para alojar a los habitantes del destruido barrio de La Ribera y aquí fue el autor del plano de la nueva Algeciras para alojar a parte de los españoles gibraltareños desalojados de su ciudad por los ingleses, que lo ocuparon en nombre del pretendiente austríaco pero que se lo apropiaron y ahí siguen. En su memoria en Algeciras existe la plaza de Verboom.

Son más los paralelismos entre estos dos territorios derivados de esta épo-

ca, pero tendremos que abordarlos en otra comunicación.

No puedo obviar que están en mi recuerdo mis amigos catalanes que, alejados física, mental y profesionalmente del hervidero en que se ha convertido Cataluña, prosiguen su admirable y terapéutica labor de rehabilitación de enfermos de todas las comunidades españolas. CATALUÑA, CAMPO DE GIBRALTAR and The War Of The Spanish Succession

What is happening in Catalonia is very painful for all of us. Especially for those, such as myself, who have had and continue to have a close link to the region. And especially if that link is related to emblematic places of historic Catalan identity that the media has bestowed on us: Palace of the Catalan Government, Fosa de las Moreras, the Museum of History and Memory and the Born, the Parque de la Ciudadela, the Parliament, etc. All of these places are especially familiar to me as for years, my son Jésus was head of the audiovisual sector at the Barcelona Liceo, given that it is currently difficult to imagine that is could be carried out by someone who is not Catalan.

I

n that period my son was living on Paseo Picasso, just opposite the Parque de la Ciudadela and just fifty metres from the current Museum of Memory and History of the Born, which years ago was the Born Market, which has closed as archaeological remains appeared there during conservation work and/or the installation of a museum which I do not know what it was. Verboom, coincidentally, was born in Brussels, the same city that (as I write this article) the former President Puigdemont has fled to from Spanish justice (an exile according to him. He was called to Spain by Felipe V in order to form the team of engineers and design new defensive systems, especially in places that had been most conflictive during the War of Spanish Succession between Felipe V of Spain and Emperor Charles of Austria. And, indeed, those places were Catalonia (especially Barcelona) and the Bay of Gibraltar, the city and the Rock taken by England from Spain in 1704, during that war.

Thus, Verboom was the builder of the Ciudadela, hated by the people of Barcelona, which was granted to them

by General Prim. Destroyed in 1879, the Parque de la Ciudadela was built in its place, and in 1888 the Universal Exhibition took place in Barcelona.

Of the buildings created by Verboom the old arsenal is still standing, where following the re-establishment of democracy Parliament established, the former palace of the governor in which Verboom lived and the current military chapel in which he was buried. All of these settings are very familiar to me.

It was very painful for me to watch certain scenes of television close to the Parliament in which it was possible to see the house where my son Jesús lived.

The architect himself was responsible for designing the defensive system of the Bay of Gibraltar and the Lines of Contravallation of the isthmus, the origin of what is now Línea de Concep-

ción. It was a defensive system that went from the western beach, which was home to the fort of San Felipe and the eastern beach, home to the fort of Santa Bárbara, whose remains can still be seen. Among them there were different defensive constructions. Likewise, he designed a defensive system with different towers along the Bay, up to the Tormo fort, beyond Punta Carnero.

The parallel of Verboom in Catalonia and Campo de Gibraltar in defensive constructions was prolonged to urban designs. In Barcelona he designed La Barceloneta to house the inhabitants of the destroyed La Ribera neighbourhood and here he was the designer of the layout of the new Algeciras in order to house part of the Spanish citizens of Gibraltar evicted from their city by the English, who occupied it on behalf of the Austrian pretender, but who appropriated it and there they remain. The Plaza de Verboom in honour of him can be found in Algeciras. There are more parallels between these two territories deriving from that era, but we will have to look at them in another article.

I cannot ignore that I am remembering my Catalan friends who, distanced physically, mentally and professionally from the hotbed that Catalonia has become, continue their admirable and therapeutic work to rehabilitate the ill in all Spanish communities.

From the Algeciras of Verboom and looking towards Gibraltar, the most permanent and conspicuous memory of the War of Succession, I send our warmest greetings and support to you in the Montanyá.n

n 1876, Tsar Alexander II of Russia asked Louis Roederer, to create a special cuvée, exclusively for him. He chose the best plots of his vineyard, in order to create a wine with an exceptional balance. Once the champagne had been created, he visited the Tsar with a transparent bottle of Cristal, in order to free him of his fears of beings assassinated. The result was a success. So much so, that in 1908, his grandson Nicholas II paid tribute to the House granting it the seal “Official provider to the Court of His Majesty the Emperor of Russia”. Since then, Cristal has proudly borne the coat of arms of the Tsar. Currently, cuvée continues to be created by the artisans of the Louis Roederer House with the same demands and passion as the first day. This has enabled it to be one of the best champagnes on the planet.

Cuvée Cristal is created using grand crus from the Reims Mountain, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs. It is matured for six years in cavas and left to rest for eight months after its disgorging. With golden yellow colour with matte yellow and amber reflections, its fizz is persistent, shiny and agitated. Its nose is subtle, relating notes of a citric compote and confit apricot. Antes de descorchar la primera botella, tocará presentarla; despertar en los presentes el interés por catarla y descubrir sus notas.

Se contará, por ejemplo, que el Reserva de Marqués de Riscal se elabora, básicamente, a partir de uvas de la variedad Tempranillo procedentes de viñas plantadas antes de los años 70 y situadas en los mejores suelos arcillo calcáreos de Rioja Alavesa. Se explicará, además, que esta variedad soporta bien la crianza en madera y el envejecimiento en botella gracias a su buen equilibrio ácido y a su fina tanicidad. Y que las variedades Graciano y Mazuelo, cuyo porcentaje en

la mezcla no sobrepasa el 10%, le aportan frescura y viveza de color. Se finalizará la introducción comentando que el Reserva de Marqués de Riscal (como el que va a protagonizar la cena) permanece, aproximadamente, dos años en barrica de roble americano, configurándose un vino que se encuadra dentro de los cánones del clasicismo riojano, fresco, fino, elegante y con un gran potencial de envejecimiento.

Una vez catado, la velada culinaria comenzará con el entrante más adecuado para disfrutar de este vino: el queso. Concretamente, uno de los mejores de España, La Retorta. Un queso elaborado en Trujillo, Cáceres, de sabor suave, pero bien definido y persistente en el paladar, con recuerdos a campo debido a su cuajo vegetal, y de textura muy cremosa, casi líquida.

arece que tomar partido en las preferencias vinícolas para las fiestas es una tradición o incluso algo nostálgico. Si salimos de estas zonas productoras de vino, consideradas de las mejores del mundo, los vinos tintos de Borgoña son especialmente interesantes en estas fechas.

Borgoña es una región del este de Francia en la que se producen los vinos más famosos del país: vinos tintos secos, hechos con uvas Pinot Noir y vinos blancos hechos con uva Chardonnay. Esta zona cuenta con un gran número de Apellations d’Origine Controlée (AOC, Denominaciones de Origen Controladas), más que cualquier otra región vinícola francesa, y además, está considerada como la región vinícola francesa con mayor conciencia de terroir. Existen restos arqueológicos que confirman que la viticultura existe en Borgoña desde el s. II d.C.,

The Festive Season is here, a peak time for gift-giving, family reunions, parties and specific traditions, most of which include wine and not only a higher quantity of year round favourites, but an extra special selection; top drawer Riojas, vintage Clarets, super Tuscans and of course, fine Burgundies.

I

t seems tradition and perhaps nostalgia, play a part in wine preference for the holidays and out of these top wine producing regions of the world, interestingly, the red wines of Burgundy are of particular interest at this time of year.

Burgundy, a region in eastern France where the most famous wines are produced – dry red wines made from Pinot Noir grapes and white wines made from Chardonnay grapes. It has a higher number of apellations d’origine controlée (AOCs) than any other French wine region and is seen as the most terroir conscious of the French wine regions.

Archaeological evidence establishes viticulture in Burgundy as early as the second Century AD, although the Celts may

have been growing vines in the region before the Roman conquest of Gaul in 51 BC. Monks and monasteries of the Roman Catholic Church have had an important influence on the history of Burgundy wine. The Cistercians, for instance, created Burgundy’s largest wall-surrounded vineyard, the famous Clos de Vougeot, in 1336. Being extensive vineyard owners, they were the first to notice that different vineyard plots gave consistently different wines and therefore laid the earliest foundation for the naming of Burgundy crus and the importance of the region´s terroir. There are more than 4,000 individual domaines in Burgundy, although most of the best wines are made by the smaller producers.

The property is today owned by a Swiss family company, Schenk, who purchased the estate in 1964 and gave it the name Henri de Villamont, in honour of the crusading knight who retired in the village. A new winery was constructed in 2006 and boasts an impressive cellar with a capacity for 4,000 French oak barrels.

Its sole owner at the time, Leonce Bocquet, decided to embark on a project for his family and create a modern winery and cellar at the heart of the Côte de Beaune. The family kept control of the estate for many years until it fell into the hands of the Martenot family who used the property as a base for their cheese business.

The property is today owned by a Swiss family company, Schenk, who purchased the estate in 1964 and gave it the name Henri de Villamont, in honour of the crusading knight

who retired in the village. A new winery was constructed in 2006 and boasts an impressive cellar with a capacity for 4,000 French oak barrels. Over the years, Schenk has invested heavily into maintaining Henri de Villamont at the highest level, with an unwavering focus on quality not quantity and with the winemaking philosophy of its cellar master, Pierre Jhean; to express the typicity of each appellation, respecting what is given by its terroir and vintage.

-. ¿Qué balance se hace desde dentro del club del Andalucía Valderrama Masters?

El balance es muy positivo. Estamos muy contentos con la magnífica asistencia de público durante la semana, con el desarrollo de la parte deportiva y con las audiencias de TV. Este último punto es esencial para nuestros sponsors; ellos saben que la combinación de un campo de reconocido prestigio como Valderrama y jugadores de primer nivel despierta siempre gran interés, dispara la audiencia televisiva y por tanto la exposición de sus marcas.

Para nosotros siempre es importante presentar el campo en las mejores condiciones posibles. Las expectativas de jugadores y público son altísimas y cada año trabajamos para superarnos. Estoy muy orgulloso del trabajo de Adolfo Ramos, nuestro Head Greenkeeper, y

de todo el equipo. También me consta que el Consejero de Turismo y Deporte, Francisco Javier Fernández, está muy satisfecho con la magnífica imagen que hemos dado de Andalucía durante el evento.

-. ¿Qué supuso para el torneo la victoria de Sergio García?

Cuando organizas un evento de esta magnitud, hay ciertos elementos que no puedes controlar y que tienen un impacto muy directo en el éxito del torneo. Uno de ellos es la parte deportiva, en este sentido, es difícil imaginar un mejor ganador para nuestro torneo. Sergio es un gran amigo nuestro y muy querido por el público de Valderrama, es evidente que su victoria ha tenido gran repercusión. Creo que tener un ganador con el prestigio de Sergio también nos ayudará a con-

solidar el evento para los próximos años. Me gustaría añadir que desde Valderrama estamos muy agradecidos de que Sergio García y Jon Rahm hayan apoyado el torneo. Son Top 10 del mundo y tienen un calendario muy cargado; todos los promotores y patrocinadores quieren tenerlos en sus torneos y creo que el hecho de que vengan a jugar Valderrama demuestra un gran compromiso con el golf español.

-. ¿Les sorprendió la gran asistencia de público? A muchos nos recordó a los mejores años del VOLVO Masters.

Así es, a mí también me recordó a la mejor época del Volvo Masters. Efectivamente, hubo un ambiente muy especial; la emoción se podía sentir el último día, sobre todo en el Green del hoyo 17.

Con la participación de Jon Rahm y Ser-

gio García teníamos expectativas muy altas de asistencia pero tengo que reconocer que nos sorprendió superar la cifra de 40.000 espectadores.

También debemos tener en cuenta que había mucha gente deseando ver a Jon Rahm durante el fin de semana, el hecho de que fallara el corte podía haber afectado notablemente al evento pero en ningún caso fue así. El público se entregó y fue un gran apoyo para Sergio García.

-. Hablando de Jon Rahm, ¿Qué piensas que le ocurrió en Valderrama? Y ¿Cómo ves el futuro de este prometedor jugador?

Lógicamente, Jon estaba decepcionado, era su primer torneo profesional en España, tenía muchísimo público apoyándole y muchas ganas de hacer un buen papel. Todo esto siempre es una presión añadida. A pesar de fallar el corte, tengo que decir que su comportamiento fue impecable, en todo momento se mostró cercano con el público y muy cariñoso con todos los niños que lo seguían, eso demuestra lo gran deportista que es. Estoy seguro de que le servirá de experiencia y que algún día ganará en Valderrama. En cualquier caso, el año de Jon ha sido espectacular y no tengo ninguna duda de que pronto será número 1 del mundo.

-. Se ha comentado en varios medios que el torneo pasará a las Rolex Series en 2019. ¿Nos puede adelantar algo?

Es cierto que Keith Pelley (CEO del European Tour) hizo unas declaraciones al respecto durante el Valderrama Masters. Creo que el ET tiene muy claro que los mejores torneos deben celebrarse en los mejores campos; Valderrama es una referencia para el Circuito Europeo, dudo que haya un campo en Europa que haya albergado tantos torneos profesionales de prestigio. Nosotros somos ambiciosos, nos gusta la idea de un Rolex Series pero también nos gusta la idea de un World Golf Championship (como el antiguo American Express).

Lo que puedo decir es que los torneos profesionales son una particularidad esencial de nuestro modelo de Club y seguiremos apostando por ellos. De momento, tenemos cuatro años más de contrato con el European Tour y estamos negociando con varios sponsors para que se incorporen al evento. Para nosotros y para Andalucía es importante aumentar la bolsa de premios y así atraer a los mejores jugadores del mundo.

-. Hace poco se hizo oficial la operación de compra del campo por parte de los socios. ¿Nos puede dar más detalles sobre la misma?

Ha sido una operación complicada.

El año pasado nos vimos obligados a presentar una demanda de arbitraje contra La Zagaleta ya que considerábamos que no habían respetado el derecho de adquisición preferente que tenía el Club (el RCV tenía un contrato de alquiler de las instalaciones hasta 2050) cuando hicieron la compra en 2015. Hubiéramos preferido otro camino pero teníamos la obligación de defender los intereses de los socios.

A la vista del desarrollo del arbitraje, la Zagaleta decidió negociar y el acuerdo final fue comprar la sociedad Valderrama SA, propietaria del campo, instalaciones, casa club, marcas de Valderrama Golf y varias parcelas (algunas residenciales) alrededor del campo,por la misma cantidad que pagaron ellos en 2015.

Para los socios, ser propietarios del campo era un deseo histórico y en parte una necesidad. En muchas ocasiones, los intereses de los socios y la propiedad no estaban alineados y esto siempre dificulta la gestión. A partir de ahora, las decisiones estratégicas y el futuro del Club lo marcarán solo sus socios a través de la Junta Directiva que elijan.

Al final, lo más importante es que nuestros socios aprobaron la operación por abrumadora mayoría y que están muy contentos y orgullosos de ser los propietarios de este gran Club.

-. ¿Cuáles son los planes de futuro ahora que el campo es propiedad de los socios?

La realidad es que siendo propietarios del suelo e instalaciones vamos a tener mayor independencia para tomar todo tipo de decisiones, incluidas las de inversión. Ahora mismo estamos en plena obra de los segundos nueve hoyos, estamos renovando todos los greenes, antegreenes y caminos de buggies.

Esta será la última fase del plan de mejora que iniciamos hace cinco años.

Cuando diseñas un plan de inversión tan ambicioso como el que hemos llevado a cabo, hay dos cosas esenciales, acertar con los proyectos a desarrollar y ejecutarlos de manera profesional.

En este sentido, creo que hemos acertado y hemos conseguido modernizar el campo y dotarlo de mejores infraestructuras que serán la base del futuro a medio y largo plazo. Agronómicamente también hemos dado un salto de cali-

dad importante y podemos presentar el campo en mejores condiciones en aquellos meses de calor extremo.

Para el futuro, nuestra principal preocupación es el tema hídrico. Tenemos que encontrar la manera de acopiar más agua durante los meses de invierno para regar durante el verano. Es muy probable que acometamos la construcción de un gran lago que nos dé un mayor margen de seguridad durante los picos de calor que tenemos en julio y agosto. En estos momentos, dependemos de nuestros pozos y es evidente que los meses de sequía que estamos viviendo tienen un impacto negativo en el nivel freático.

-. En esta nueva fase, ¿Habrá cambios en el modelo de Club?

Nuestro modelo de Club no va a cambiar sustancialmente. Seguiremos apostando por la calidad y por ser una referencia mundial en mantenimiento y servicio. Sabemos que competimos contra los mejores Clubes del mundo, sabemos que nuestros socios pueden elegir otros clubes para su tiempo de ocio y tenemos muy presente que debemos ofrecer la mejor experiencia posible.

Evidentemente, revisamos nuestra estrategia continuamente y es muy posible que vayamos hacia un modelo más privado aunque sin limitar totalmente el acceso a visitantes.

-. A nivel personal, estás en tu séptimo año al frente del Real Club Valderrama. ¿Puedes hacer un balance de cómo han transcurrido estos años?

Para mi han sido unos años fantásticos y en los que he crecido mucho profesional y personalmente. Me considero un auténtico privilegiado y mantengo la misma ilusión que el primer día.

Tengo la suerte de contar con un equipo de excelentes profesionales y personas, están volcados con Valderrama y son la clave de nuestro éxito; también debo agradecer el apoyo que siempre me han dado los socios y la Junta Directiva del Club, especialmente el Presidente, el Visconde de Pereira Machado y el Vicepresidente, Juan Carlos Garay.

Creo que juntos hemos alcanzado todos los objetivos que nos fijamos en 2011 y que el Club goza de excelente salud y de un futuro prometedor. Ahora viene una etapa muy bonita, vamos a centrarnos en consolidar el trabajo realizado en el Club estos años y en el crecimiento del Valderrama Masters.n

-. What is the club´s assessment of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters?

The assessment is very positive. We are very happy with the attendance during the week, with the sporting action and with the TV ratings. This latter point is essential for our sponsors; they know that the combination of a course with renowned prestige like Valderrama and World class players always arouses great interest, really causes a spike in the TV audience and therefore all in terms of their brand exposure.

For us it is always important to present the course in the best possible conditions. The expectations of the players are public are extremely high and each year we work to surpass them. I am very proud of the work of Adolfo Ramos, our Head Greenkeeper, and of all the team. I am also aware that the

-.What did Sergio García´s victory mean for the tournament?

When you organise an event of this magnitude, there are certain elements that you cannot control and that have a very direct impact on the tournament´s success. One of them is the result of the tournament, in that regard it is difficult to imagine a better winner for our tournament. Sergio is a great friend of ours and really loved by the Valderrama crowds, it is clear that his victory had a big impact. I believe that having a winner of Sergio´s prestige will also help us to consolidate the event for coming years.

ma were are really grateful that Sergio García and Jon Rahm supported the tournament. They are in the World Top 10 and have a really busy schedule; all the promoters and sponsors want to have them at their tournaments and I believe that the fact that they come to play at Valderrama shows a great commitment to Spanish golf.

-. Were you surprised by the large crowds? For many people it was reminiscent of the best years of the VOLVO Masters.

Indeed, it also reminded me of the best era of the Volvo Masters. Indeed, there was a very special atmosphere; the emotion could be felt on the last day, especially at the 17th Green. With the participation of Jon Rahm and Sergio García we had very high attendance expectations but I have to admit that

we were surprised to surpass the figure of 40,000 spectators.

We also need to bear in mind that there were many people who wanted to see Jon Rahm during the weekend, the fact that he missed the cut could have notably affected the event but that was not the case at all. The crowd really got involved and that was a great source of support for Sergio GarcĂ­a.

-.Talking of Jon Rahm, what do you think happened to him at Valderrama? And, how do you view the future of this promising player?

Naturally, Jon was disappointed, it was his first professional tournament in Spain, he had a lot of people supporting him and a real desire to play well. All of that was probably added pressure. Despite missing the cut, I must say that his behaviour was impeccable, at all times he was friendly with the public and was really affectionate with all the children that followed him, that shows great class. I am certain that it will be great experience for him and that he will win at Valderrama one day. In any case, Jon has had a spectacular year and I have no doubts that he will soon be world number 1.

-. Several media outlets have reported that the tournament will become a Rolex Series event in 2019. Can you disclose something?

It is true that Keith Pelley (CEO of the European Tour) spoke about this during the Valderrama Masters. I think that the ET has a clear vision that the best tournaments should be held at the best courses; Valderrama is a benchmark for the European Tour, I doubt that there is a course in Europe that has hosted more prestigious professional tournaments. We are ambitious, we like the idea of a Rolex Series but we also like the idea of a World Golf Championship (like the old American Express).

What I can say is that professional tournaments are an essential feature of our Club model and we will continue to host them. At the moment, we have four more years on our contract with the European Tour and we are negotiating with several sponsors for them to join the event. For us and for Andalusia it is important to increase the prize fund and thus attract the best players in the world.

-.Recently, the transaction for members to purchase the course was officially announced. Can you provide more details about this deal?

It was a difficult transaction. Last year we were forced to submit an arbitration claim against La Zagaleta as we considered that they had not respected the preferential acquisition right that the Club had (RCV has a rental agreement contract of the facilities until 2050) when they made the purchase in 2015. We would have preferred another path but we had the obligation to defend the interests of members.

In view of how the arbitration was going, La Zagaleta decided to negotiate and the final agreement was for the members to purchase the company Valderrama SA, the owner of the course, facilities, club house, Valderrama Golf brands and several plots (some residential) around the course, for the same amount that they paid in 2015.

For the members, it was a longstanding wish to own the course, and in part, it was a necessity. On many occasions, the interests of the members and the ownership were not aligned and that always makes management more difficult. From now on, the strategic decisions and the Club’s future will be decided only by the members through the Board of Governors they elect.

In the end, the most important thing is that our members approved the transaction with an overwhelming majority and they are very happy and proud to be the owners of this great Club.

-.What are the future plans now that the course is owned by the members?

The reality is that as owners of the land and facilities we are now going to have more independence to take all kinds of decisions, including investments. Right now we are doing work on the back nine, we are revamping all the greens, areas around the greens and buggy paths. This will be the last phase of the Investment Plan that we began five years ago.

When you design an investment plan as ambitious as the one that we have implemented, two things are essential, choosing the right projects and executing them professionally. In this regard, I believe that we have got things right and we have managed to modernise the course and provide it with better infrastructures which will be the basis for the medium and longterm future. Agronomically, we have

also taken an important leap in terms of quality and we can present the course in better conditions during the months of extreme heat.

For the future, our main concern is irrigation water. We need to find the way to store more water during the winter months so we can use it during the summer. It is very probable that we will construct a large lake that offers us a greater margin of safety during the heat peaks that we have in July and August. At the moment, we depend entirely on our wells and it is clear that the drought months that we are experiencing have a negative impact on the capacity of the wells.

-. In this new phase, will there be changes to the Club model?

Our club model is not going to change substantially. We will continue to commit to quality and being a world benchmark for maintenance and service. We know that we are competing against the best Clubs in the world, we know that our members can choose other clubs for their leisure time and we don’t take this for granted. We know we must offer the best possible experience.

Evidently, we are continuously reviewing our strategy and it is very possible that we will be moving towards a more private model but without fully limiting access to visitors.

-.On a personal level, this is your seventh year in charge of Real Club Valderrama. Can you offer an assessment of what these years have been like?

They have been fantastic years where in which I have grown professionally and personally. I still consider myself to be really privileged to work here and I have the same enthusiasm as the first day. I am lucky to have a team of excellent professionals, they are really committed to Valderrama and they are the key to our success; I also must express gratitude for the great support I have always received by the members and from our Board of Governors, especially the President, the Viscount Pereira Machado and the Vice-president Juan Carlos Garay.

I believe that together we have attained the targets that we set in 2011 and that the Club is enjoying excellent health and has a promising future. We now have exciting times ahead, we are going to focus on consolidating the work carried out at the Club over these years and the growth of the Valderrama Masters. n

El Circuito de Golf Sotogrande celebró su quinta prueba, penúltima del calendario regular, en el madrileño trazado de El Encín Golf. Una cita muy particular por ser la primera vez en cinco ediciones que el Circuito viajaba a la capital española.

Sotogrande Golf Circuit held its fifth event, the penultimate of the regular calendar, at the Madrid course of El Encín Golf. It was a very special event as it was the first time in five editions that the Circuit had travelled to the Spanish capital.

l trazado, un Par 72 de 18 hoyos, no puso demasiado sencillas las cosas a los participantes. Tras la competición, el siguiente paso: cena protocolaria, entrega de premios y sorteo de regalos.

Respecto a la parte deportiva, María José Luchsinger se llevó el Drive más largo en Damas además del tercer puesto de su categoría; en la que Consuelo Pliego ganó y Montse Galán finalizó segunda. En Segunda Categoría Caballeros, Juan Martín Basilago se llevó la victoria seguido de Juan M. San Martín y Tomás Oliva.

En Primera Categoría, Fracisco Bullón fue el ganador, seguido de Ramón Guerrero y Guillermo Gil. Juan Guerrero se llevó el premio de la categoría Scratch.n

a jornada regaló a los participantes un día primaveral y un campo en unas condiciones insuperables en el que el buen juego se convirtió, sin duda, en la nota más destacada. Como siempre, los jugadores disfrutaron de todos los detalles que convierten a este encuentro en el favorito del golf amateur, como una bolsa de bienvenida con regalos o un delicioso picnic a mitad de juego con el que reponer fuerzas.

Una vez concluido el encuentro, llegó el tiempo de relajarse y disfrutar de un estupendo cóctel en el que, una vez más, no faltó el mejor jamón de Ibéricos Covap, los buenos vinos de Marqués de Riscal y los suculentos cócteles de Bombay Sapphire y Grey Goose.

Para finalizar, se hizo entrega de los premios a los ganadores. En Categoría Damas, el primer premio fue para

Gillian Reynolds, seguida de Sun Qianru y Carmen Merino.

Por su parte, en Segunda Categoría Caballeros, el primer puesto fue para Santiago Arranz, el segundo lo ocupó José Antonio Ramírez y, el tercero, fue para Juan Manuel Araujo.

Alejandro Martínez se alzó con la primera posición de la categoría principal, dejando el segundo y tercer puesto a Michel Pierre y Errol Bolaños. Juan Manuel García Vega se llevó el premio a la Cat. Scratch y Josef Lagger obtuvo el premio especial al Drive más largo.

Finalizaban, de esta forma, las siete pruebas clasificatorias del Circuito. Llegaba el momento de celebrar el fin de fiesta con una gran final en la que disfrutar por todo lo alto. El lugar elegido para hacerlo: La Reserva Club de Sotogrande.n

A few weeks later, the players gathered at the Finca Cortesín course in order to compete in the final qualifying event for the grand finale of the season.

he day provided participants with spring weather and a course in unbeatable conditions where good play certainly became the most outstanding note. As always, the players enjoyed all the details that make this even the favourite in amateur golf, such as a welcome bag with gifts and a delicious picnic midway through the round in order to get their energy back.

Once the event was over, it was time to relax and enjoy a fantastic cocktail party which, once again, featured the best ham from Ibéricos Covap, good wines from Marqués de Riscal and delicious cocktails from Bombay Sapphire and Grey Goose.

To finish, the prizes were presented to the winners. In the Women´s Category, the first prize went to Gillian Reynolds, fo-

llowed by Sun Qianru and Carmen Merino. In turn, in the Men´s Second Category, first place went to Santiago Arranz, second place went to José Antonion Ramírez and, third place went to Juan Manuel Araujo. Alejandro Martínez took first place in the main category, leaving Michel Pierre and Errol Bolaños in second and third respectively.

a jornada comenzó fría en un campo que no se lo puso fácil a los jugadores, que tuvieron que poner toda la carne en el asador en cada hoyo. Al avanzar la mañana, comenzaron a subir las temperaturas y un sol primaveral acompañó a los participantes el resto del día. Una jornada de golf por todo lo alto en la que no faltaron pequeños detalles, sello inequívoco de este Circuito, como el punto de avituallamiento a mitad de camino, con jamón de Ibéricos Covap y vinos de Marqués de Riscal con los que reponer fuerzas.

Tras horas de buen juego, llegó el tiempo de relajarse y disfrutar del magnífico cóctel preparado para los asistentes. Una fiesta, que comenzó con un pequeño obsequio a los clasificados, una foto del encuentro para el recuerdo.

Entre risas y buen ambiente fue avanzando una tarde en la que no faltaron los mejores bocados gourmet, el buen vino y los cócteles de Grupo Bacardi.

En el apartado deportivo, María Luisa Artes fue la ganadora de la Categoría Damas, seguida de Inés Obarrio y Sandra Hilinger en segundo y tercer puesto, respectivamente.

Artes obtuvo, además, el trofeo de la Categoría Scratch.

La Segunda Categoría de Caballeros la ganó Francisco Funes y, el segundo y tercer puesto, fueron para Francisco López Castro y José María Caballero. Antonio Cidoncha se alzó con el primer puesto de la Primera Categoría, seguido

de Antonio Simón García y Karl Heinz Elschner como segundo y tercer clasificados.

En cuanto a los premios especiales, el Drive más largo fue para Andrei Smetsky. Una vez más, quedó desierto el premio al Hoyo en 1 (situado en el Hoyo 15), con el extraordinario premio de un reloj Hublot, que, finalmente, no se pudo entregar en esta edición.

El torneo paralelo, ideado para aquellos jugadores que quisieron acompañarnos durante este día y vivir una fantástica jornada de golf, fue para Casilda Jiménez-Ugarte en primer lugar, Ricardo Andrades en segundo puesto y Jaime de Haro en tercero.

Para finalizar, José Luis García, presidente de Grupo HCP y editor de La Revista de Sotogrande, quiso hacer un guiño a los ganadores y, en nombre de la publicación con la que nació este encuentro deportivo, les hizo entrega de tres impresionantes Apple Watches.

A well-deserved award for the 51 chosen players who earned their ticket for the closing event at the fifth edition of the Sotogrande Golf Circuit, as well as for the other participants. Undoubtedly, this could serve as an introduction to the grand finale held at La Reserva de Sotogrande.

T

he day began coldly at a course that did not make things easy for the players, who really had to give everything they had at each hole. As the morning progressed, the temperature began to rise and a spring sun accompanied the participants for the rest of the day. A day of golf in the finest style that did not lack the fine details, the unmistakeable hallmark of this Circuit, such as the provisions area midway through the round, with ham by Ibéricos Covap and wines by Marqués de Riscal to regain energy.

Following hours of good play, it was time to relax and enjoy the magnificent cocktail party prepared for the participants. The party began with a small gift for the qualified players, a souvenir photo of the event.

Amongst laughter and a good atmosphere the afternoon progressed, and there was no shortage of gourmet snacks, good wine and cocktails from the Bacardi Group.

As for the sport, María Luisa Artes was the winner of the Women´s Category, followed by Inés Obarrio and Sandra Hilinger in second and third place, respectively. Artes also obtained the Scratch Category trophy.

The Second Men´s Category was won by Francisco Funes and, second and third place went to Francisco López Castro and José María Caballero Antonio Cidoncha took top spot in the

First Category, followed by Antonio Simón García and Karl Heinz Elschner in second and third place. As for the special prizes, the Longest Drive went to Andrei Smetsky. Once again, the Hole in One Prize (at Hole 15) went unclaimed, which means that the extraordinary prize of a Hublot watch finally was not awarded at this edition.

The parallel tournament, devised for the players who wanted to accompany us during the day and experience a fantastic round of golf, was won by Casilda Jiménez-Ugarte in first place, followed by Ricardo Andrades in second and Jaime de Haro in third. To conclude, José Luis García, president of Grupo HCP and editor of Sotogrande Magazine, wanted to offer a nod to the winners and, on behalf of the publication that gave rise to the sports event, he presented them with three impressive Apple Watches.

A luxury finishing touch to a great edition whose end is nothing more than a brief rest after which an exciting new adventure will get underway.
