En Sotogrande y el Valle del Guadiaro conviven actualmente cerca de 3.200 alumnos en distintos centros escolares, una cifra nada desdeñable para una comunidad residencial que ha crecido de manera ordenada y que, poco a poco, se ha consolidado como referente en el sur de Europa. De ese total, más de 1.300 estudiantes acuden al Colegio Internacional de Sotogrande, el buque insignia de la educación en el resort, mientras que aproximadamente un 65% del alumnado opta por centros privados (en cifras globales). Estos datos hablan por sí solos: la educación de calidad es uno de los principales motores de atracción de familias hacia Sotogrande.
No se trata únicamente de sol, mar y golf, sino de un valor diferencial de gran relevancia: la seguridad de contar con un entorno formativo sólido, reconocido y de prestigio. La presencia de colegios de renombre, como el mencionado International School o el histórico colegio San José, confiere a la urbanización y su entorno de un carácter único dentro del panorama educativo nacional. Of that total, over 1,300 students attend Sotogrande International School, the flagship of education in the resort, while approximately 65% of students choose private schools (overall figures). These figures speak for themselves: quality education is one of the main driving forces for attracting families to Sotogrande.
It isn’t only about sun, sea, and golf, but rather a highly important differential value: the security of having a strong, renowned, and prestigious educational environment. The presence of renowned schools such as the aforementioned International School and the historic San José school give the resort and its area a unique character on the national educational landscape. This phenomenon fits into an international trend where quality residential destinations rely on excellent educational institutions as a central claim to attract people. However, in such a competitive context, there is always the challenge to go a step further. Sotogrande has shown that it can become a great educational destination, but perhaps the time has come to propose the creation of a second high quality and large capacity school. A commitment of this kind would not only strengthen the positioning of the resort as a capital of private education in southern Europe, but it would also meet the growing demand for spaces and the interest of new families looking to establish their future here.

Sotogrande consolida su liderazgo turístico con un verano mejor que el anterior
• La ocupación hotelera crece un 1,6% en la provincia, el empleo turístico se eleva un 3% y Sotogrande refuerza su atractivo internacional gracias a los grandes eventos deportivos.
El verano de 2025 se despide con un balance claramente positivo para Sotogrande y su entorno. La temporada alta, que abarca julio y agosto, ha confirmado el dinamismo de la zona como destino de referencia, con cifras de ocupación hotelera en ascenso, crecimiento del empleo turístico y un notable aumento de visitantes internacionales.
Según los datos provinciales, la ocupación media en la zona alcanzó en julio el 87,8%, frente al 86,2% del mismo mes en 2024. Esta mejora de 1,6 puntos porcentuales se ha trasladado a San Roque y, de manera destacada, a Sotogrande, donde los establecimientos registraron picos de plena ocupación (100%) durante los fines de semana. Aunque localidades cercanas han experimentado ligeros descensos, el núcleo turístico sanroqueño ha mantenido su fortaleza, impulsado por la exclusividad de su oferta y la celebración de eventos de proyección internacional como el Torneo de Polo y su perfil de alto nivel de golf y residencial/vacacional.
El empleo vinculado al turismo también ha mostrado
una evolución favorable. En julio, la afiliación a la Seguridad Social en actividades turísticas creció un 2,9% a nivel nacional y un 3,2% en Andalucía, lo que supone decenas de miles de contratos adicionales. En Sotogrande, la hostelería, la restauración, el
transporte privado y los servicios de ocio acuático y deportivo han sido los sectores más beneficiados. Aunque no existen cifras locales desglosadas, empresarios de la zona coinciden en que la contratación temporal de 2025 ha superado la del verano previo,
evidenciando una mayor presión sobre el empleo estacional.
La demanda internacional ha sido otro de los pilares de este éxito. En julio, Andalucía recibió 1,54 millones de turistas extranjeros, un 5,5% más que en 2024. Sotogrande ha
captado parte de este flujo, con un perfil de visitante de alto poder adquisitivo procedente de Reino Unido, Estados Unidos y América Latina. El turismo nacional, sin embargo, continúa representando la base principal del mercado, consolidando la fidelidad de familias españolas que buscan la seguridad, el clima y la exclusividad de la urbanización.
Con todo, persisten ciertos desafíos. La estacionalidad concentra la máxima presión en apenas ocho semanas, lo que genera tensiones en servicios y personal, mientras que la competencia de otros destinos mediterráneos obliga a mantener elevados estándares de calidad y a innovar en la oferta cultural y deportiva.
En conclusión, el verano de 2025 ha resultado más sólido que el de 2024: más ocupación, más empleo y más visitantes. Sotogrande consolida así su posición como enclave privilegiado en la costa sur de España, aunque su reto inmediato será transformar la bonanza estival en un modelo de crecimiento estable y sostenible durante todo el año.
Sotogrande consolidates its tourism leadership with a better summer than last year
• Hotel occupancy has risen by 1.6% in the province, tourism employment has risen by 3% and Sotogrande has strengthened its international appeal thanks to large sporting events.
Summer 2025 is bidding farewell with a clearly positive assessment for Sotogrande and its area. The peak season, covering July and August, confirmed the dynamism of the area as a leading destination, with rising hotel occupancy figures, the growth of tourist employment and a notable increase in international visitors.
According to provincial data, the average occupancy in the area reached 87.8% in July compared to 86.2% in the same month in 2024. This improvement of 1.6 percentage points has spread to San Roque, and notably, to Sotogrande, where establishments recorded peaks of full occupancy (100%) over weekends. Although nearby areas have experienced slight drops, the San Roque tourism hub maintained its strength, boosted by the exclusivity of its offer and the celebration of international events such as the Polo Tournament and its high level golfing and residential/holiday profile.
Employment linked to tourism has also developed positively. In July, people signed up to Social Security for tourism activities rose by 2.9% nationally and by 3.2% in Andalusia, which equates to tens of thousands of additional contracts. In Sotogrande, hospitality, catering, private transport and water leisure and sporting services were the sectors that benefitted the most. Although there is no breakdown of local figures, business figures from the area agree that temporary hiring in 2025 surpassed the level of last summer, displaying greater pressure on seasonal employment. International demand was another of the pillars of this success. In July, Andalusia welcomed 1.54 million foreign tourists, 5.5% more than in 2024. Sotogrande captured part of this flow, with visitors with high purchase power coming from the United Kingdom, United States, and Latin America. However, national tourism continues to represent the main cornerstone of the market, consolidating the loyalty of Spanish families seeking the security, climate, and exclusivity of the resort.
Even so, certain challenges remain. The seasonal nature of tourism concentrates maximum pressure in just eight weeks, which generates tension on services and staff, while the competition of other Mediterranean destinations makes it necessary to maintain high quality standards and innovate in terms of the cultural and sporting offer. In conclusion, summer 2025 was stronger than that of 2024: high occupancy, more employment and more visitors. Sotogrande has thus consolidated its position as a privileged location on the south coast of Spain, although its immediate challenge will be to transform the summer boom into a model of stable and sustainable growth during the entire year.

The new political year looks so similar to the last one that it is worth wondering if it is really new or if we are just back reliving the same thing over again, like poor Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.
The economy still has clouds on the horizon in terms of inflation, employment, growth, and public finances. In politics, there is still the precarity of a week and ineffective government, blackmailed by the partners used to get it into power. The latest episode was the defeat of the draft law to reduce the working day, which the vice-president Yolanda Díaz couldn’t progress with in Parliament. However, if we take a deeper look at the analysis we will see that we aren’t facing identical situations to those of last year, and that the landscape is more
worrying in terms of the economy and less so on a political level.
From an economic perspective, prospects have worsened. Although the figures in Spain are relatively better than the rest of Europe, there are also worrying signs in our country, particularly due to the worsening of the unsustainability of the public purse. On the other hand, on the political front, the situation is better in two ways.
On a European level there are interesting signs, represented by alarmist messages in Germany, the United Kingdom, and France. Why are they positive? Because they all point in the same direction towards the urgent reform of the welfare state, which is threatened with collapse. This is positive, because

Sin embargo, si profundizamos en el análisis comprobaremos que no estamos ante escenarios idénticos a los del pasado curso, y que el panorama es más preocupante en la economía y menos en la política. Desde el punto de vista económico las perspectivas han empeorado. Aunque los datos de España son relativamente mejores que los del resto de Europa, también en nuestro país hay señales de preocupación, en particular por el agravamiento de la insostenibilidad de las cuentas públicas.
En el frente político, en cambio, la situación es mejor en un doble sentido.
Desde el ámbito europeo hay señales interesantes, representadas por los mensajes alarmistas en Alemania, Reino Unido y Francia. ¿Por qué son positivas? Porque todas apuntan en el mismo sentido de la reforma urgente del Estado de bienestar, amenazado de colapso. Esto es positivo, porque la primera condición para resolver un problema es reconocer que existe.
Desde la perspectiva nacional, el propio bloqueo de la acción del gobierno es bienvenido, porque impide la concreción de medidas dañinas para las empresas y para la creación de empleo, como es el caso de la reducción de la jornada, que para las empresas más pequeñas o menos competitivas puede representar un coste demasiado gravoso.
Asimismo, el desgaste del gobierno anticipa su renovación. Podríamos recordar la ironía de Saki, que comienza su cuento The Romancers hablando del optimismo de los londinenses en otoño, porque confían siempre en que volverá la primavera y cambiará el gobierno.

From a national perspective, blocking the government’s action is welcome, because it prevents the materialisation of harmful measures for companies and for the creation of jobs, such as the case of reducing the working day, which can be a too burdensome cost for smaller or less competitive companies.
Likewise, the decay of the government points to its replacement. We could recall the irony of Saki, who begins his story The Romancers talking about the optimism of Londoners in autumn, because they always trust that spring will return and the government will change.

La travesía para Pueblo Nuevo encara la última fase de su transformación
• Los trabajos de asfaltado, nuevo acerado y habilitación de zonas de estacionamiento deberían estar finalizadas en el tramo final del año.
Las obras de mejora en la travesía de la N-340 a su paso por Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro avanzan a buen ritmo (quizás un pelín menos de lo esperado pero en marcha) y se perfilan como una de las actuaciones urbanísticas más relevantes de los últimos años en la zona. El proyecto, impulsado por el Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad en colaboración con el Ayuntamiento de San Roque, persigue reforzar la seguridad vial, mejorar la accesibilidad peatonal y dotar de nuevos servicios a un enclave que ha experimentado un notable crecimiento residencial y comercial.
El contrato fue adjudicado en primavera de 2024 con un presupuesto de 808.213 euros, financiados a través del Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia. Con un plazo de ejecución de 19 meses, la finalización se prevé para finales de 2025, momento en el que la gestión del tramo pasará al Consistorio sanroqueño.
La intervención contempla varias actuaciones de importancia. Entre ellas destacan la creación de un nuevo paso de peatones regulado por semáforo, la semaforización de otros dos ya existentes y la habilitación de una zona de estacionamiento en el margen derecho de la vía de servicio, acompañada de un acerado de nueva construcción (tam-
bién habilitar la isleta y su asfaltado, al final de la vía, previsiblemente también para un estacionamiento pero más organizado). Estos trabajos buscan dar respuesta a una de las principales demandas vecinales: facilitar el aparcamiento y garantizar la seguridad de quienes se desplazan a pie por la travesía. Asimismo, se está acondicio-
nando el sendero que conecta Pueblo Nuevo con las áreas comerciales cercanas. El proyecto prevé la instalación de barandillas y alumbrado, el suavizado de taludes y la construcción de muros de gaviones, con el objetivo de ofrecer un itinerario más seguro y accesible. De igual modo, se acometen mejoras técnicas en el sistema de dre-
naje, la reposición de servicios afectados, la colocación de pavimento fonoabsorbente y nuevos cerramientos. A día de hoy ya se aprecia el avance de los trabajos, con zonas de estacionamiento asfaltadas y tramos de acera en preparación. Esto supone un paso decisivo en la integración urbana de Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro.

• The work on surfacing, new paving and provision of parking areas should be completed in the final stretch of the year.
The work to improve the N-340 crossing as it goes through Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro is progressing at a good pace (perhaps a little less than expected but underway) and looks like one of the most important urban development actions of recent years in the area. The project, undertaken by the Ministry of Transport and Mobility in collaboration with the Council of San Roque, aims to strengthen road safety, improve road accessibility and provide new services to an area that has experience notable residential and commercial growth.
The contract was awarded in the spring of 2024 with a budget of 808,213 Euros, funded through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. With an implementation period of 19 months, it is expected to conclude at the end of 2025, at which point the San Roque Council will take over the management of the stretch.
The work includes several important actions. They notably include the creation of a new pedestrian crossing controlled by a traffic light, and traffic lights being fitted for two existing crossings and the provision of a parking area at the right hand side of the service road, along with new paving (the island will also be paved, as foreseeably will the end of the road for parking but in a more organised way). This work aims to respond to one of the main demands from residents: to facilitate parking and ensure the security of those who travel by foot along the crossing.
Likewise, the path connecting Pueblo Nuevo with the nearby commercial areas is being fitted out. The project envisages the installation of railings and lighting, smoothening embankments and building gabion walls, with the aim of offering a safer and more accessible route. Likewise, technical improvements are being made to the drainage system, the replacement of affected services, the fitting of sound-absorbing paving and new enclosures.
At present, the work can be seen to be progressing, with paved parking areas and areas of paving under preparation. This marks a decisive step in the urban integration of Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro.

As can be seen in the images, residents and regular visitors to the area have been complaining about the state of the passageways leading to the Plaza Mayor in Pueblo Nuevo. After several months of construction and repairs, it is certainly a shame that they are in such poor condition.
One of the latest to denounce this, with strong roots among residents and the power to mobilise them, has been former councillor Jesús Mayoral. This photo complaint posted by the former councillor on his social media accounts illustrates the state of disrepair that needs to be improved.

A few weeks ago I had the chance to get certified as a Vita facilitator, a methodology that encourages the creation of peer groups with a clear objective: growing together through mutual support. The experience reminded me of something essential: gathering to share something in a structured way isn’t only valuable, it is deeply transformative. Un incendio deja sin vivienda a una persona mayor en San Enrique
Un vecino, de avanzada edad, perdió su vivienda tras quedar el interior de la misma inhabitable por un incendio ocurrido en la tarde del 13 de septiembre, en la calle Las Flores de San Enrique. Desde Policía Local y Asuntos Sociales del Ayuntamiento le buscaron hospedaje y se encuentra actualmente prestando atención social en busca de una solución a largo plazo.

A elderly resident lost their home after its interior was left uninhabitable due to a fire on the evening of 13 September, on Calle Las Flores de San Enrique. The Local Police and Social Affairs unit of the Council sought accommodation for him and is currently providing social care as they look for a long term solution.
Two units from the Consortium of Firefighters acted to extinguish this fire which took place on Calle Las Flores de San Enrique de Guadiaro, due to a fire inside a home. Although there was only material damage, as the home was left unliveable, the Council of San Roque is going to aid the resident affected, an elderly man who has no family in the area.
In addition to the Firefighters, two units from the Local Police and another two Civil Guard units attended the scene.

Curso 2025-2026
El curso escolar 2025-2026 comienza en el Valle del Guadiaro (y su área de influencia), con gran éxito tras un nuevo proyecto académico de gran calidad en el entorno, con la convivencia de algunos de los mejores colegios del sur de España. Una población escolar que deja datos más que interesantes, como que el 65% o más de sus estudiantes optan por una alternativa privada y de alto nivel en la zona.
The school year 2025-2026 begins in the Guadiaro Valley (and its area of influence), with great success after a new academic project of high quality in the environment, with the coexistence of some of the best schools in southern Spain. A school population that leaves more than interesting data, such as that 60% or more of its students opt for a private and high level alternative in the area.

• El nuevo curso 2025-2026 comienza con algo más de 3.180 escolares matriculados en los diferentes centros educativos locales.
• Destacar la enorme relevancia del destino, a nivel de calidad educativa, ya que concentra a pocos kilómetros varios de los mejores centros privados del país, destacando algunos de ellos, en el ‘Top 100’ como el Colegio San José o el Internacional de Sotogrande.
Siempre es lo mismo y nunca es igual. Despega con fuerza un, nuevamente en septiembre, el curso escolar en Sotogrande, con la vitola de uno los destinos educativos de mayor nivel en calidad del sur de Europa. El curso escolar 2025-2026 arranca en el Valle del Guadiaro (y su área de influencia más cercana) con un ligero incremento (bastante sostenido con el curso anterior) en la cuota de integrantes en su comunidad escolar. En números estimados (hasta que no comience a rodar el curso plenamente e incluso ya en marcha estas cifras pueden variar), la comunidad escolar local se sitúa este año en unos 3.190 alumnos (aprox.) en total, una cifra que crece respecto a registros anteriores en los que se situaba en: 3.170 alumnos en 2024; 3.120 escolares en 2023; 3.047 en 2022; 2.752 en 2021; 2.738 en 2020; 2.682 (2019), 2.550 (en 2018), 2.440 (en 2017), 2.183 alumnos (en 2016) o la doble unidad de millar, raspada, en 2015. Estas cifras suelen variar ligeramente a medida que avance
el mes de septiembre y se reestablezcan completamente los guarismos en centros y cursos en la zona.
Comunidad escolar local
Como es habitual, el Colegio Internacional de Sotogrande (SIS) lidera el número de estudiantes inscritos para este curso en la zona. Este año afronta el curso superando ampliamente el millar de alumnos en sus aulas (aproximadamente unos 1320), lo que supone una cifra similar al censo del pasado curso (muchos de ellos en ‘boarding’). Respecto al volumen de multiculturalidad en sus aulas, destaca que entre el 75/80% de los mismos sean de origen extranjero, haciendo muy rica su comunidad culturalmente. Hasta más de 55 nacionalidades diferentes conviven entre sus clases; siendo la predominante la española seguida de la británica. Destacar, además de las más habituales, procedencias tan exóticas como Botswana, Arabia Saudí, Egipto, Santo Domingo o Malasia. Destacar
también que cuenta con un número de profesores superior al centenar, un dato que es otra gran referencia en el sector.
Otro de los centros interna-
cionales de referencia en el perímetro de Sotogrande que comienza el curso con alrededor de 70/60 alumnos en sus instalaciones es la escuela-bosque Alma Forest, que ya dimos a conocer el pasado año en las páginas de este medio. El centro cuenta con edades comprendidas entre 3-6 años en la escuela-bosque y 6-12 para Primaria con un plan de estudios acreditado de nivel internacional; con el inglés como lengua principal de enseñanza, con clases específicas en español. Destaca el reconocimiento de la creatividad y los proyectos experienciales en un innovador concepto educativo en la zona.
También se encuentra en marcha, desde principios del mes de septiembre, el nuevo curso para las guarderías y centros de primera edad. Los puntos municipales de Campanilla (San Enrique), con 35 plazas, y de Puente de Hierro en Pueblo Nuevo, con 41 plazas, habría que sumarle una cifra cercana al centenar que se reparte entre las diferentes guarderías privadas de la urbanización y todo el Valle del Guadiaro.
Recuperando el hilo de mayor masa académica, tras el internacional sotograndino se situaría el CEIP Gloria Fuertes (repartido en zonas de Infantil y Primaria en Guadiaro y Pueblo Nuevo, respectivamente). En total acumula una cifra cercana a los 590 escolares. Se reparten, aproximadamente, entre más de 200 alumnos en Educación Infantil (Guadiaro), mientras que en Educación Primaria concurrirán este curso unos 380 escolares (Pueblo Nuevo).
Mencionar, en el siguiente apartado, al CEIP Barbésula en San Enrique de Guadiaro que durante este curso crece mantiene el crecimiento del pasado año en su censo. Este año mantiene los 200 alumnos (divididos entre Infantil y Primaria). Para cerrar el capítulo local, el último en iniciar el curso en el IES Sierra Almenara (en Pueblo Nuevo). El centro, que ya sólo cuenta con niveles de secundaria, cifra en 350 alumnos, cifras similares a las del pasado año. Otros centros de la zona, como Montessori, superan el medio centenar de escolares aunque es pronto para contar con una cifra exacta con el inicio del curso aún en su etapa de rodaje.
Alumnos que estudian fuera del distrito
Un cada vez más amplio número de residentes de la urbanización y el Valle del Guadiaro eligen opciones educativas en centros vecinos y colegios cercanos. Tal es el caso de prácticamente un número algo superior al medio millar, en muchos casos, buscando una alternativa educativa a la propuesta local.
Uno de los casos más significativos es el del Colegio San José, en Estepona. Este centro, que año tras años continúa consolidado entre los 100 mejores del país, recibe diariamente a más de un centenar de estudiantes procedentes de Sotogrande. En su mayoría de procedencia española aunque las nacionalidades británicas y rusas le siguen muy de cerca. También conviven en el centro procedencias como la belga, italiana, holandesa o francesa, entre muchas otras hasta alcanzar la cifra cer-
cana a las 20 nacionalidades. Su bachillerato internacional y las impresionantes infraestructuras y oferta educativa, convierten al San José en uno de los colegios más demandados de toda la Costa del sol.
Los centros algecireños de Montecalpe y Puertoblanco son también dos de los destinos más demandados por la
comunidad escolar local. Más de un centenar de estudiantes se desplazan cada día hasta estos dos colegios, divididos por sexos, para cursos sus estudios. Caso similar ocurre con las ofertas educativas en Gibraltar, centros como Loreto o Prior albergan a casi medio centenar de estudiantes de la zona; así como en el Centro Casa de la
Virgen, ubicado en Palmones, con una amplia oferta a varios niveles (también de formación profesional) en el Campo de Gibraltar.
Algo más voluminosa es la cifra de los escolares del Valle del Guadiaro, estudiantes de bachillerato, que pasan a San Roque Casco a cursar sus estudios, aproximadamente unos 150.
En síntesis, el Valle del Guadiaro y Sotogrande son a día de hoy todo un referente cuantitativo y cualitativo, especialmente, en su comunidad educativa, dónde destaca su alto nivel educativo como atractivo y modelo de referencia cara al exterior.

• The new 2024-2025 year is beginning with a little over 3,180 students enrolled in the different local educational institutions.
• It is worth highlighting the great importance of the destination in terms of educational quality, as within a few kilometres it brings together several of the best private schools in the country, with some of them featuring in the ‘Top 100’ such as Colegio San José and Sotogrande International School.
It is always the same and never the same. Once again September, the school year in Sotogrande is getting off to a strong start, with the seal of one of the top quality educational destinations in southern Europe. The 2025-2026 school year is getting underway in Valle del Guadiaro (and its closest area of influence) with a slight increase (quite in line with the previous year) in the number of members of its school community. In terms of estimate numbers (until the year gets fully going and even when it is underway, these figures may vary), the school community this year has around 3,190 students (approx.) in total, a figure that has risen compared to previous
years when the number stood at: 3,170 students in 2024; 3,120 students in 2023; 3,047 in 2022; 2,752 in 2021; 2,738 in 2020; 2,682 (2019), 2,550 (in 2018), 2,440 (in 2017), 2,183 students (in 2016) and two thousand in 2015. These figures normally vary slightly as September progresses and the figures for schools and years in the area are completely reset.
Local school community
As per usual, Sotogrande International School (SIS) leads the number of students enrolled for this year in the area. This year it is tackling the school year having greatly surpassed on thousand
students in its classrooms (approximately 1320), which is a figure similar to the census last year (many students are boarders). As for the level of multiculturalism in its classrooms, it is notable that around 75/80% of students are from abroad, which makes its community very rich culturally. Over 55 nationalities sit alongside one another in its classes; with the Spanish dominating in terms of numbers, followed by the British. In addition to the most common, it is worth highlighting very exotic countries of origin such as Botswana, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Santo Domingo and Malaysia. Also worth noting is that the school has over one hundred teachers, a figure that is another benchmark in the sector.

Another of the leading international schools in the Sotogrande perimeter beginning the year with around 70/60 students at its facilities is the Alma Forest school, which we already reported on in the pages of this outlet last year. The school has ages from 3-6 at the forest school and 6-12 for Primary with an internationally accredited study plan; with English as the main teaching language, and specific classes in Spanish. It

In addition to the municipal points of Campanilla (San Enrique), with 35 spaces, and Puente de Hierro in Pueblo Nuevo, with 41 spaces, there is a figure close to one hundred spread between the different private nurseries in the resort and all of Valle del Guadiaro.

Returning to the topic of most students, after Sotogrande International School sits CEIP Gloria Fuertes (split into Preschool and Primary in Guadiaro and Pueblo Nuevo, respectively). In total, it has close to 590 students. They are split, approximately, between over 2000 Preschool Education children (Guadiaro), while 380 students (Pueblo Nuevo) are in Primary Education.
Next, we should mention CEIP Barbésula in San Enrique de Guadiaro which this year has maintained the growth of last year in its census. This year, it has maintained 200 students (split between Preschool and Primary). To close the local chapter, the last school to start the year is IES Sierra Almenara (in Pueblo Nuevo). The school, which now only has secondary education, has 350 students, similar figures to last year.
Other schools in the area, such as Montessori, have over fifty students although it is too early to have an exact figure with the start of the year still getting underway.
Students studying outside the district
An increasing number of residents in the resort and Valle del Guadiaro are choosing educational options in neighbouring schools and nearby schools. Such is the case of practically over half a thousand students, who are often looking for an educational alternative to what is offered locally.
One of the most significant cases is Colegio San José, in Estepona. This school, which year after year continues to establish its place among the top 100 in the country, welcomes over one hundred students from Sotogrande each day. Most are Spanish, although British and Russian students follow very closely behind. Also studying alongside them at the school are Belgians, Italians, Dutch and French students, among many others, amounting to a figure close to 20 nationalities. Its international baccalaureate and impressive infrastructures and educational offer, make San José one of the most sought-after schools on the entire Costa del Sol.
The Algeciras schools of Montecalpe and Puertoblanco are also two of the most sought-after destinations for the local school community. More than one hundred students travel each day to these two schools, split by gender, to undertake their studies.
There is a similar situation with the educational offer in Gibraltar, schools such as Loreto and Prior are home to almost fifty students from the area; as well as at the Centro Casa de la Virgen, located in Palmones, with a broad offer on several levels (also for professional training) in Campo de Gibraltar.
There is a somewhat higher number of students in Valle del Gua-
diaro, baccalaureate students, who come to San Roque Casco to study, approximately 150.
In short, at present Valle del Guadiaro and Sotogrande are a real quantitative and qualitative benchmark, especially in its educational community, which stands out for its high level of education as an attraction and benchmark for the outside world.

Artificial intelligence in the classroom: a key tool for the new school year
The new school year kicks off marked by a trend that has already become part of everyday life and is beginning to transform education: artificial intelligence (AI). Far from being a passing fad, these technologies are emerging as a resource capable of improving the educational experience for both teachers and students.
One of the main benefits of AI in the classroom is the personalisation of learning. Algorithm-based platforms
and applications allow content and exercises to be adapted to each student’s level, offering reinforcement to those who need it and additional stimulation to the more advanced. This approach can help reduce inequalities and maintain motivation in classes with different rates of progress. Artificial intelligence also has a practical role in school management. From automatic correction of exercises to the generation of progress reports, these
tools free up teachers’ time, which can be devoted to tasks of greater educational value: personalised attention, creativity and emotional support for students. Another area where AI offers advantages is inclusion. Automatic translators, text readers and communication assistants allow students with different needs or backgrounds to have more equitable access to information. In addition, AI-powered virtual environments facilitate autono-
mous learning, which can be essential in an increasingly digitalised world. Institutions such as UNESCO have already pointed out in recent reports that artificial intelligence, when properly implemented, can be a driver of educational equity and quality, provided it is combined with clear policies on responsible use. This perspective reinforces the need to train students not only in the technical use of these tools, but also in critical and ethical skills.
At the start of this academic year, the emergence of artificial intelligence presents itself as a decisive opportunity. Integrated with pedagogical criteria, it can become an ally in preparing students for key 21st-century skills: creativity, problem solving, analytical skills and adaptability. The challenge is not to slow down technological progress, but to learn how to harness it for more effective and humane education.
Vuelta al cole y conciliación: el reto de septiembre para las familias
Con la vuelta al cole y el inicio del curso escolar, miles de familias se enfrentan a uno de los mayores retos de conciliación del año. El mes de septiembre vuelve a poner a prueba la capacidad de las empresas para ofrecer condiciones que permitan compatibilizar las responsabilidades profesionales con las familiares.
Muchos padres recurren a familiares para la recogida y el cuidado de los niños al finalizar la jornada escolar, o bien optan por las actividades extraescolares como una solución para ganar tiempo extra. De hecho, 9 de cada 10 alumnos de enseñanza obligatoria están apuntados a alguna actividad extraescolar, según datos del Instituto de Evaluación del Ministerio de Educación, lo que refleja la relevancia de estas actividades como herramienta de conciliación
familiar. Esta realidad se refleja en la percepción generalizada de las medidas ofrecidas por las empresas, ya que según un estudio reciente realizado por Protime, el 74,2 % de los empleados considera que las opciones de conciliación dispo-
nibles en sus empresas son insuficientes o claramente mejorables. Además, el 98 % de los entrevistados considera necesario ampliar los permisos parentales retribuidos para mejorar la conciliación familiar, lo que evidencia que las medidas legales y organi-
zativas actuales todavía no cubren plenamente las necesidades de las familias.
Flexibilidad laboral: un derecho que aún genera desconfianza
A pesar de que muchos convenios colectivos y normativas internas incluyen medidas de flexibilidad —como el horario laboral flexible, trabajo a tiempo parcial, teletrabajo o la jornada intensiva—, su uso sigue generando reticencias entre los empleados. Según el Estudio IFREI, elaborado por el Centro Internacional Trabajo y Familia del IESE Business School, el 73 % de los trabajadores españoles cree que utilizar medidas de flexibilidad puede penalizar su desarrollo profesional.
Este dato refleja una cultura organizativa en la que aún persiste la percepción de que la dedicación se mide en presencia física o disponibilidad constante, en lugar de en resultados. Como consecuencia, muchos trabajadores renuncian a ejercer su derecho a la flexibilidad por miedo a perder visibilidad o proyección dentro de la organización.

With the return to school and start of the school year, thousands of families are facing one of the biggest challenges of the year to balance work and family life. September is once again testing the ability of companies to offer conditions that make it possible to balance professional responsibilities with family life. Many parents turn to family members to collect and look after children at the end of the school day or choose extracurricular activi-
ties as a solution to find extra time. In fact, 9 out of every 10 obligatory school students have signed up to an extracurricular activity, according to data from the Institute of Evaluation of the Ministry of Education, which reflects the importance of these activities as a tool for a work-life balance.
This reality is reflected in the widespread perception of the measures offered by companies, as according to a recent study con-
ducted by Protime, 74.2% of employees believe that the work-life balance options available in their companies are insufficient or clearly leave room for improvement. Also, 98% of those interviewed consider it necessary to extend paid parental leave in order to improve the work-family balance, which shows that current legal and organisational measures still don’t fully meet the needs of families.
Working flexibility: a right that still creates mistrust
Despite the fact that many collective agreements and internal regulations include flexibility measures -such as a flexible work schedule, part time work, working from home and intensive work days-, its use continues to create reticence among employees. According to the IFREI Study, conducted by the International Work and Family of IESE Business School, 73% of Spanish emplo-
yees believe that using flexibility measures can penalise their professional development.
This figure reflects an organisational culture where there is still the perception that devotion is measured in terms of physical presence or constant availability, instead of results. As a consequence, many employees give up their right to flexibility out of a fear of losing visibility or renown within the organisation.

Año Nuevo
Aunque el calendario diga que el año empieza el 1 de enero, para muchos el verdadero “año operativo” arranca en septiembre: niños al cole, adultos de vuelta a la oficina, agendas y CRMs recién estrenadas… y, tal vez, un poco de vértigo en el estómago.
El vértigo es normal: la vuelta de vacaciones suele ser uno de los momentos más estresantes del año. Lo interesante es cómo lo gestionamos. Ahí está la diferencia entre arrastrar cansancio hasta Navidad o empezar con energía renovada. Vamos a ver algunas claves desde las herramientas que se usan en Mediación de conflictos:
1. Libera espacio emocional Antes de lanzarnos a “poner orden”, conviene soltar lastre. El estrés no desaparece a base de negarlo: necesita salida. Respirar conscientemente unos minutos para lograr coherencia cardiaca, salir a hacer deporte, bailar, escuchar música o probar con una meditación guiada son vías simples y, a la vez, potentes para neutralizar lo negativo.
2. Convierte el conflicto en brújula Septiembre trae de todo:
correos pendientes, malentendidos en casa sobre rutinas, discusiones en el trabajo por prioridades. En vez de verlos como fastidios inevitables, podemos hacer que sean brújulas que nos señalan dónde necesitamos hablar más claro o planificar mejor. Agradecer incluso los fallos de comunicación —sí, agradecerlos— nos da la oportunidad de abordarlos a tiempo y evitar tormentas mayores.
3. Empodera y alinear
Cuando surge un problema, la clave es recuperar la sensación de poder. ¿Qué decisiones sí puedo tomar hoy? Esa es la base para salir de la queja. Y una vez hecho, toca alinear: conectar mis objetivos con los de los demás y con un futuro compartido. Esta reflexión reduce la resistencia al cambio —esa voz interior que insiste en que “mejor seguir como siempre”, aunque ese “siempre” no funcione.
4. Transformar emociones
Aquí viene lo más mágico: descubrir que podemos transformar emociones “a voluntad”. El miedo se convierte en determinación, la incertidumbre en convicción bien informada, la tristeza en gratitud y alegría. No es un truco barato, es

En lugar de maldecir el despertador, la “vuelta al cole” es perfecta para entrenar estas competencias de Liderazgo Mediador: neutralizar emociones negativas, gestionar conflictos como oportunidades y transformar bloqueos en energía para avanzar. Si lo pensamos bien, cada septiembre nos regala un nuevo inicio. Y no hay nada más poderoso que empezar el “año real” con entusiasmo, gratitud y una sonrisa lista para lo que venga.
Mediation: September: the real New Year
Although the calendar says that the year begins on 1 January, formanythereal“workingyear” gets underway in September: children at school, adults back to the office, new agendas and CRMs...and perhaps, a little nervousness in the stomach.
Nerves are normal: returning from holidays is normally one of the most stressful moments of the year. The interesting part is how we manage it. Therein lies the difference between dragging on until Christmas or beginning with renewed energy. We are going to look at some of the keys through the tools that are used in Conflict Mediation:
1. Free up emotional space
Beforedivingintotheprocessof “tidying things up”, it is advisable to shed some burden. Stress doesn’tdisappearbydenyingit: it needs an outlet. Breathing mindfully for a few minutes to achieve cardiac coherence, going out to do sport, dancing, listening to music or trying a guided meditation are simple yetpowerfulmeanstoneutralise negativity.
2. Turn conflict into your compass
September brings everything: pending emails, arguments at home about routines, discussions at work about priorities. Instead of seeing them as unavoidable annoyances, we can make them compasses that point to where we need to speak more clearly or plan better. We should even be thankful for communication errors -yes,
thankful- they give us the chance to tackle them on time and prevent greater issues.
3. Empower and align When a problem arises, the key is to recover the feeling of power. What decisions can I take today? That is the foundation for getting away from complaining. And once you have done so, it is time to align: connect my objective with those of others and with a shared future. This reflection reduces resistance to change, that inner voicethatinsiststhat“itisbetter to continue the way I always have” even if that “always” doesn’t work.
4. Transforming emotions
This is the most magical part: discovering that we can transform emotions “freely”. Fear becomes determination, uncertainty becomes well-informed conviction, sadness becomes gratitude and joy. It isn’t a cheap trick, it is practice: the more we train it, the quicker it happens.
Instead of cursing the alarm clock, the “return to school” is perfectfortrainingtheseskillsin Mediating Leadership: neutralising negative emotions, managing conflicts as opportunities andtransformingblockagesinto energy in order to progress. If we consider it properly, each Septemberoffersusanewstart. And there is nothing more powerful than starting the “real year”withenthusiasm,gratitude and a smile ready for whatever is to come.

El Consistorio de San Roque realizó, con motivos de las previas en el inicio del curso escolar, diferentes actuaciones y mejoras en el CEIP Barbésula, como la sustitución de sanitarios de los baños de Infantil. Además, de arreglar los voladizos exteriores del edificio del colegio.
Dentro de los trabajos que realiza este verano el Ayuntamiento en los colegios públicos sanroqueños, con la coordinación de la Delegación de Educación, en el CEIP Barbésula de San Enrique se están llevando a cabo distintas mejoras tanto para la seguridad como para el bienestar del alumnado. As part of the build up to the start of the school year, the Council of San Roque carried out different work and made improvements to CEIP Barbésula, such as replacing the Preschool children’s bathrooms. They also fixed the outside cantilever bridge of the school building.
As part of the work that the Council is carrying out this summer at public schools in San Roque, with the coordination of the Department of Education, CEIP Barbésula de San Enrique is carrying out different improvements for both the safety and welfare of students. The mayoral delegate for Works and Services and Education, Belén Jiménez, visited the school to supervise the changes to the Preschool bathrooms, and to also inspect the building’s cantilever bridge which is going to be repaired due to parts falling off this summer.
The councillor stated that “the aim is to fit out two bathrooms on the ground floor, which is where the children undertaking preschool education normally are. She states that, in addition to changing the toilets for smaller ones, “there was a step that we decided to get rid of in order to allow easy access to the service for any students with mobility problems. Abierto el plazo para solicitar las becas municipales
• Desde el 15 de septiembre se ha iniciado el plazo de presentación de solicitudes de las cinco líneas de becas para estudiantes sanroqueños durante el curso 2025/26. Con una partida de 120.000 euros, se incrementa en 20 euros de la cuantía de las ayudas a Infantil respecto al curso pasado.
El plazo de presentación de solicitudes va del 15 al 30 de septiembre, pero ya se pueden pedir las instancias tanto en la Delegación de Educación del Ayuntamiento (Edificio Diego Salinas) y alcaldías de barrio, o descargarse en el Portal de Transparencia municipal. Para este curso se cuenta con una partida de 120.000 euros para estas líneas de beca, con las que se pretende ayudar a las familias tanto en la adquisición de material escolar como en lo relativo a desplazamientos. Apuntó que cada año se van mejorando, en especial en la cuantía recibida por alumno, y mostró su deseo de que estas ayudas beneficien a buen número de sanroqueños y sanroqueñas.
La principal novedad respecto al curso pasado es el incremento de la ayuda al alumnado de Infantil, que sube hasta 120 euros por beneficiario, de manera que se iguala con Primaria y Secundaria. Se mantienen los 250 euros para los ciclos de Formación Profesional y Bachillerato, al igual que los 300 euros para estudios en universidades públicas.
A partir del 1 de octubre se estudiarán las solicitudes y, a continuación, se abrirá un plazo para subsanar la documentación cuando sea necesario. Finalmente, se publicará el listado con las solicitudes aceptadas y denegadas. Finalizó la edil con el deseo de “que todos los solicitantes cumplan los requisitos de las bases y puedan ser beneficiarios de estas ayudas económicas”. Las ayudas al estudio se dividen en cinco líneas: Infantil; Primaria; Secundaria Obligatoria; Bachillerato, FP Básica, Ciclos Formativos de Grado Medio y Ciclos de Grado Su-
perior; y, finalmente, para grados universitarios.
La concesión será por régimen de concurrencia competitiva, por lo que la puntuación final se establecerá según el nivel de renta, el expediente académico (en estudios no obligatorios y universitarios), antigüedad en el empadronamiento, y fecha de presentación de la solicitud. En cuanto a los umbrales de renta, son: para familia de un miembro, 22.000 euros; para familia monoparental, 27.000; de tres miembros, 32.000 euros; de cuatro, 37.000; de cinco integrantes, 42.000 euros; de seis, 47.000; de ocho, 57.000 euros; y a partir del octavo miembro, por cada nueva persona computable se añadirán 2.500 euros.
En caso de alumnado con necesidad específica de apoyo educativo derivado de discapacidad o de alta capacidad intelectual, estas cifras de los umbrales de renta se incrementarán en 5.000 euros. Las solicitudes deberán presentarse en el registro de entrada del Ayuntamiento o en las alcaldías de barrio.
The application period for municipal scholarships is now open
• From monday 15 September starts of the period for submitting applications for the five lines of scholarships for San Roque students during the 2025/26 school year. With a budget allocation of 120,000 Euros, the amount of the Preschool grants has risen by 20 Euros compared to last year.
The period for submitting applications is open from 15 to 30 September, but applications can already be made at both the Department of Education of the Council (Diego Salinas Building) and neighbourhood mayoral offices or downloaded from the municipal Transparency Portal. For this year, there is an allocation of 120,000 Euros for these lines of the grant, which is aimed at helping families both to purchase school materials and in relation to travel. The councillor noted that the grants improve each year, especially the amount received for each student, and she outlined her wish for these grants to benefit a large number of San Roque residents.
The main new development in relation to last year is the increase in the grant for Preschool pupils, rising to 120 Euros per beneficiary, to match Primary and Secondary education. It has been maintained at 250 Euros for Professional Training and the Baccalaureate, as well as at 300 Euros for studies in public universities.
Applications will be studied from 1 October and then, a period will open to rectify documentation when required. Lastly, the list will be published with the accepted and rejected applications. The councillor concluded with the desire for “all the applicants to meet the requirements of the conditions and be able to benefit from these financial grants.” The study grants are divided into five lines: Preschool; Primary; Obligatory Secondary; Baccalaureate, Basic Professional Training, Middle Level Training Cycles and Higher Cycles; and, lastly, university degrees.
Grants are awarded on a competitive basis, therefore the final score will be established according to the level of income, the academic record (in non obligatory and university studies), time on the census, and the date of the submission of the application. As for the income thresholds, they are: for a one member family, 22,000 Euros; for a single parent family, 27,000; three members, 32,000 Euros; four 37,000; five members, 42,000 Euros; six, 47,000; eight, 57,000 Euros; and eight or more members, for each new person included, 2500 Euros will be added. In the case of students with specific needs for educational support resulting from disability or high intellectual capacity, these figures for the income thresholds will be increased by 5,000 Euros. Applications must be submitted to the entry register of the Council or at neighbourhood mayoral offices.

Amanara conquista la Copa de Oro y extiende su dominio estival en Sotogrande
• El cuarteto, liderado por un extraordinario nivel de Barto Castagnola, cierra la temporada con las dos máximas preseas del verano, al ganar Copa de Plata y Oro.
• Electric Polo, en el Mediano, y Hartog Polo en el Bajo, también ganadores de Oro.
Una temporada para el recuerdo en Sotogrande y que Amanara no olvidará fácilmente tras su salto al Alto Hándicap en Sotogrande el verano de 2025. En un encuentro cargado de emoción e intensidad, Amanara venció a Dos Lunas por 13 a 9 y obtuvo la Copa de Oro de Alto Hándicap de Sotogrande.
La última jornada del 54° Torneo Internacional de Polo dejó una final para el re-
cuerdo, reafirmando a Sotogrande en la máxima categoría del polo a nivel mundial. Amanara y Dos Lunas protagonizaron un encuentro decisivo que brindó espectáculo y mantuvo un clima de final a lo largo de los 6 chukkers.
En el inicio, fue Dos Lunas el que logró las primeras diferencias, sobre todo a partir de la conducción de Antonio Heguy, que a su nivel de juego le sumó gol, para que
la ventaja fuera de 7 a 3 al finalizar el segundo chukker. Amanara intentó acomodarse en el partido y en el resultado a medida que pasaron los minutos, y la actuación de Bartolomé Castagnola fue fundamental para dichos efectos. Si bien acortaron la desventaja a 2, un gol de Antonio Heguy en la última jugada del tercer chukker llevó el resultado a 8-5 al momento del halftime.
Pero la segunda mitad fue totalmente distinta a la primera, con un conjunto de Amanara que brindó su mejor polo de la temporada, con aportes fundamentales de Beltrán Laulhé en la remontada, de Barto Castagnola en la conducción, de Lorenzo Chavanne en cuanto a goles, y de Marti Romuladez, que en el final del quinto chukker marcó un gol que llevó la diferencia a 12-8 en favor de Amanara. Ya en el último
chukker, y si bien Antonio Heguy consiguió descontar rápidamente, Bartolomé Castagnola terminó de sentenciar el pleito en favor de Amanara.
Así, Amanara cerró una temporada que incluye título en las Copas de Plata y de Oro, algo que no se conseguía desde 2022, cuando Dubai logró la misma gesta. Para Castagnola se trató del segundo título, mientras que para Chavanne y Laulhé fue el primer título de Copa de Oro de Alto Hándicap. El filipino Martín Romualdez, que reemplazó a la lesionada Nicky Sen, se consagró nuevamente, al igual que en 2024.
Por su parte, Electric Polo se coronó campeón de la Copa de Oro de mediano hándicap tras superar a Muda IZ Polo por 10 a 5 en la final, además, Hartog Polo Team superó a Essso por 8 a 5 y se alzó con el título en el Bajo Hándicap. Un broche de oro a una edición del Torneo Internacional de muchos quilates en Sotogrande.

• The team, led by Barto Castagnola playing extraordinarily, ends season with the top two prizes of summer, winning the Silver and Gold Cups. Electric Polo, in the Medium Handicap, and Hartog Polo in the Low Handicap, also won Gold.
A season to remember in Sotogrande and Amanara won’t easily forget the summer of 2025 it after its leap up to the High Handicap in Sotogrande. In a match packed with excitement and intensity, Amanara beat Dos Lunas 13-9 and won the High Handicap Gold Cup in Sotogrande.
The last day of the 54th International Polo Tournament offered a memorable final, reaffirming Sotogrande in the top category of global polo. Amanara and Dos Lunas starred in a decisive match that provided spectacle and maintained the feel of a final throughout the 6 chukkers. To begin with Dos Lunas achieved the early leads, especially with Antonio Heguy leading, adding a goal in addition to his play, to ensure the lead was 7-3 at the end of the second chukker. Amanara tried to settle into the match and the result as the minutes ticked by, and the performance by Bartolomé Castagnola was essential for those purposes. Although they shortened the lead to 2, a goal by Antonio Heguy in the last move of the third chukker led the result to finish 8-5 at halftime.
However, the second half was completely different to the first, with an Amanara side that offered its best polo of the season, with crucial contributions from Beltrán Laulhé in the comeback, from Barto Castagnola in leading play, from Lorenzo Chavanne in terms of goals, and from Marti Romuladez, who at the end of the fifth chukker scored a goal that left the score 12-8 in favour of Amanara. In the last chukker, and although Antonio Heguy managed to quickly cut the lead, Bartolomé Castagnola ended up sealing the contest in favour of Amanara.
Thus, Amanara ended a season including a title in the Silver and Golf Cups, something that hadn’t been achieved since 2022, when Dubai achieved the same feat. For Castagnola, this was his second title, while for Chavanne and Laulhé it was the first title in the High Handicap category of the Gold Cup. The Filipino Martín Romualdez, who replaced the injured Nicky Sen, was crowned again, just as in 2024.
In turn, Electric Polo was crowned champion of the Gold Cup in the medium handicap category after beating Muda IZ Polo by 10-5 in the final, also, Hartog Polo Team beat Essso by 8-5 and took home the Low Handicap title. A finishing touch to a top quality International Tournament in Sotogrande.

The fifth and last even of the regular calendar of the XII Sotogrande Golf Circuit met all the expectations of a final event that defines and determines the finalists for the 2025 Grand Finale at the legendary Real Club Valderrama. pecially the outstanding players seeking a place in the final. With a high level and very competitive course, Flamingos provided great moments for the players on the Circuit.
After the day of sport, it was time to comment on the say and celebrate with the very authentic hallmark of the circuit and its different events. In a space reserved for celebrations, Cleopatra, in the heart of Villa Padierna, participants and guests enjoyed a final cocktail, as always, accompanied by a ham cut live by Jamones Popi and paired with wines by Marqués de Riscal.
As for the winners, the Closest Ball (hole 4) went to José Zuheros, while the Longest Drive went to Julio Baptista (in the Men’s Cate-
gory) and had two winners in the Women’s Category with Elena Kouznetsova and Dina Costales. In the Women’s Category, victory went to Danielle Bostoen, followed by Rose M. Lund and Concha Soler. Meanwhile, in the Men’s Second Category, victory went to Jere Erkko, followed by Thomas Ettl and Amir Ali Shaerzadeh; in the Men’s First Category, the winner was James Navagh, followed by Fran Pérez and Antonio S. García (the prize went to Matt Prawidlo).
It was a finishing touch to a fantastic XII edition of the Sotogrande Golf Circuit which promises to return with more golf and much more next year, before concluding with its Grand Finale next November at Real Club Valderrama.
