ONE OF THE MOST REPRESENTATIVE SPORTS IN SOTOGRANDE IS SAILING. THE LOCAL SAILING SCHOOL ORGANISES TONS OF EVENTS FOR EVEN ITS LITTLEST MEMBERS.STARTING OUT AT A YOUNG AGE IN A SPORT THAT CONTRIBUTES TO THEIR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT FORMS A MAJOR ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NECESSARY VALUES FOR ​​ CHILDREN IN TODAY’S SOCIETY.

ummer is the high season for sailing in Sotogrande. One of the most relevant popular sports is sailing. Prior to the formal inauguration of the Royal Club of Sotogrande (RCMS) in 1990, sailing among community inhabitants was clearly a trend, as is demonstrated by local chapter’s hostingof Spanish National Championshipsin 1980. Shortly after RCMS’ founding, its official sailing school was opened in 1997 and became a major success thanksto its organization of the World Championship for Hobie Cat

16. At that time,Sotogrande became a breakthrough location on the international sailing scene greatly due to its optimal maritime conditions. Currently, RCMS sailing school is highly prestigious, as verified bythe level of skill acquired by its students who start each summer. Wolfgang Müller, technical director of the Sailing School - locally known as Wolf - explains that the minimum age to start sailing in their camps is about six years old, although there are a few exceptional students who can start out at as

young as five.Discipline and ability to follow instructions lay the foundation for beginning with young ones. «We aren’t focused on training little kids in complex theoretical concepts, our method of teaching is based on play,» he emphasizes. As we’ve learned over the years, kids learn through fun. Wolf explains that children who start out young in the world of sailing, do so with semi-rigid support boats and ensures us that within a week, they are already able to make their way along different courses on theirown.
