La noticia ha corrido como la pólvora y ha sido acogida con gran entusiasmo tras el pesimismo de un breve descanso que se ‘desprendía’ de muchas tertulias en el entorno. Afortunadamente, por todo lo que ello significa para la zona: LIV Golf regresa al Real Club Valderrama en 2026. Y lo hará con un adelanto de fechas, del 5 al 7 de junio- Y no se trata solamente de un torneo; hablamos de una cita que proyecta Sotogrande a la primera línea del deporte internacional. Valderrama, con su historia legendaria y su impecable trazado, es un templo del golf que ha visto desfilar a campeones, épicas victorias y momentos que han marcado una época. Desde la Ryder Cup de 1997 hasta la consolidación como parada fija del LIV Golf, refuerza todo ese legado. En este desembarco, según se ha podido saber, se aseguran cinco torneos en siete años, y el hecho de que este sea ya el cuarto consecutivo, confirman que la relación va para largo.

Cada verano, Sotogrande se transforma. Nuestra población se multiplica, los restaurantes bullen de actividad y la agenda social y deportiva alcanza su punto álgido. Sin embargo, este crecimiento estacional también saca a la luz desafíos que debemos abordar con visión de futuro y compromiso colectivo. Incluso a medio plazo, con este crecimiento exponencial a nivel residencial a año completo, veremos también el estrés de infraestructuras: sanitarias, policiales, de empleo especializado, etc.
Uno de los problemas más visibles es el del aparcamiento y accesos. En agosto, encontrar una plaza libre cerca zonas comerciales o de ocio se convierte en una auténtica carrera de fondo. Las calles, pensadas para un tráfico mucho más relajado, se saturan; los estacionamientos improvisados afean el paisaje y generan incomodidades tanto para residentes como para visitantes (emergencias incluidas).
La circulación interna, especialmente en horas punta, acusa el incremento de vehículos privados. Atascos en accesos clave, no sólo restan tiempo y comodidad, sino que afectan a la experiencia global del visitante. Sotogrande no puede permitirse que la imagen de exclusividad y calidad que ha cultivado durante décadas se vea empañada por una logística deficiente. ¿Qué hacer, entonces? La respuesta no pasa por frenar el crecimiento, sino por planificarlo inteligentemente. Es prioritario diseñar un plan de movilidad integral para el verano que contemple:

One of the most visible problems is parking and entrances. In August, finding a free parking space close to shopping and leisure areas becomes a real marathon effort. The streets, designed for much more relaxed traffic, are overcrowded; makeshift parking spaces are an eyesore and create inconvenience for both residents and visitors (including emergencies). Internal traffic, especially at rush hour, shows the increase in private vehicles. Traffic jams at key entrances, not only take away time and comfort, but they also affect the overall visitor experience. Sotogrande cannot allow the image of exclusivity and quality that it has cultivated for decades to be tarnished by deficient logistics. So, what do we do? The answer doesn’t depend on stopping growth, but rather on planning it in a smart way. It is crucial to design a complete mobility plan for summer that includes:

Se cumplen dos años sin avances prácticos sobre el proyecto para la entrada hacia Torreguadiaro
• Una dilatada cuestión con más de 12 a la espera de un plan global del que sólo se ha ejecutado un plan de asfaltado en 2018, desde la remodelación de 2013. En mayo de 2023, después de años de reclamaciones, el Ministerio de Transportes anunció la redacción de un nuevo proyecto para conectar la A-7 y Torreguadiaro, en la actualidad, todo parece permanecer igual.
Continúan las reclamaciones, las peticiones y los problemas, que se generarán nuevamente con las masivas llegadas de residentes y turistas a la zona costera del Valle del Guadiaro y las aglomeraciones y colas en la salida de la A-7 en dirección a Torreguadiaro. Una cuestión cíclica y reclamada en numerosas ocasiones, muchas de ellas por este medio [El Periódico de Sotogrande], en la que reclamar una actuación que conecte de manera adecuada la salida hacia Torreguadiaro y Málaga, entre la A-7 y la AP-7. Entre medias, una millonaria inversión con el cambio de kilometraje y cartelería de Algeciras a Cataluña, final de la vía, el pasado curso.La realidad es que hace más de dos años, concretamente en mayo de 2023, se anunció con tronío que el Ministerio de Transportes formalizó al redacción del proyecto de remodelación del enlace entre A-7 y AP-7 en Torreguadiaro, por valor de 528.990 euros. El objeto de esta actuación, cuyo presupuesto estimado es de 13 millones de euros (IVA incluido), es modificar el enlace existente en el kilómetro 133,700 de la A-7 para mejorar
su funcionalidad, estableciendo una conexión directa entre el tramo de la autovía A-7 procedente de Algeciras con el tramo de la carretera multicarril A-7 que continúa hacia Málaga, eliminando la necesidad de paso por las glorietas existentes y viales del enlace de Torreguadiaro de la AP-7. Pero la realidad es que, a día de hoy, sólo se ha aplicado en la zona un asfaltado del tramo y fue hace nada menos, que hace seis años. Por aquel entonces, la Demarcación de Carreteras de Cádiz realizó una actuación en la zona de
Torreguadiaro, colindante a la gasolinera Montilla, zona en la que sin embargo aún se esperan los permisos para poder realizar una actuación de rehabilitación en las vías de servicio. En concreto, unos trabajos de asfaltado en los cuatro carriles de esta vía, actuación que potencia la mejor seguridad para los vehículos que transitan por esta zona, de entrada al municipio y al Campo de Gibraltar desde la Costa del Sol.
Ya en aquella época, el primer edil sanroqueño, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, recordaba que “son
ya 4 los años en los que esperamos que la Demarcación de Carreteras de Andalucía apruebe de forma definitiva el proyecto para mejorar la via de servicio, para convertir esta zona en urbana, con acerado, y mejorando la primera imagen que tienen los turistas cuando llegan a nuestro municipio”. Y se explicaba que el proyecto contaba con financiación propia, ya que de los costes se hará cargo Cepsa Comercial, merced al acuerdo firmado en su momento y aprobado en pleno, pero que necesita de la aprobación de
la Demarcación de Carreteras, pues la zona aún no es de competencia municipal. El acuerdo, que data del año 2013, recoge que esta obra supondrá la adecuación tanto de la vía de servicio situada en la zona de la misma gasolinera como de la que se encuentra frente a la misma, donde se ubica la frutería. Esta adecuación convertirá ambas vías en urbanas y municipales, lo que dará mayor seguridad a los peatones y mejorará la imagen del acceso (norte) al término municipal.
En virtud del convenio, Cepsa Comercial Petróleo acometerá las obras de ordenación de las calzadas secundarias de la A7 a lo largo de unos 300 metros, lo que supondrá su transformación en vías urbanas distribuidoras del tráfico local. Se dotarán de calzada y aceras y se ejecutará una nueva barrera de separación entre las mismas y el vial principal. También se mejorarán las instalaciones y redes de servicio y se ejecutará una nueva red de alumbrado en la totalidad del tramo. Cepsa Comercial Petróleo se encargará también del mantenimiento de los nuevos viales.
There are still claims, requests, and problems, which will be repeated once the mass arrivals begin of residents and tourists to the coastal area of Valle del Guadiaro and the gridlock and queues at the A-7 exit heading towards Torreguadiaro. A recurring matter and one brought up on several occasions, often through this media outlet (El Periódico de Sotogrande), with calls for action to properly connect the exit towards Torreguadiaro and Malaga, between the A-7 and the AP-7. In between, an investment worth millions with the change of kilometre markings and signposting from Algeciras and Catalonia, end of the road, last year.
The fact is that over two years ago, specifically in May 2023, an announcement was made with great fanfare that the Ministry of Transport had formalised the drafting of the remodelling project for the connection between the A-7 and AP-7 in Torreguadiaro, for an amount of 528,990 Euros.
The purpose of this action, with an estimated budget of 13 million Euros (including VAT) is to modify the existing connection at kilometre 133.700 of the A-7 in order to improve its functionality, establishing a direct connection between the stretch of the A-7 road, from Algeciras with the stretch of the multi-lane A-7 road that continues towards Malaga, eliminating the need to go through the existing roundabouts and connecting roads of Torreguadiaro on the AP-7.
But the fact is that, at present, it only has surfacing of the stretch has been applied in the area and that was no less than six years ago. Back then, the Roads Demarcation of Cadiz carried out work in the Torreguadiaro area, adjacent to the Montilla petrol station, however, permits are still being waited on in this area in order to carry out renovation work on the service roads. Specifically, surfacing work on the four lanes of this road, an action that improves security for the vehicles travelling in this area, an entrance into the municipality and Campo de Gibraltar from the Costa del Sol.
At that time, the mayor of San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix recalled that “for 4 years we have been waiting for the Roads Demarcation of Andalusia to provide definitive approval of the project to improve the service road, in order to make this area urban, with paving, and improve the first image that tourists get when they arrive in our municipality.” And it was explained that the project had its own fundings, as Cepsa Comercial will bear the costs, thanks to the agreement signed at the time and approved in the plenary, but which requires approval from the Roads Demarcation, as the area does not fall under the competency of the municipality. The agreement, dating back to 2013, states that this work will entail improving both the service road located in the area of the petrol station, as well as the one in front of it, where the greengrocer’s is. This renovation improvement will make both roads urban and municipal, which will provide greater safety for pedestrians and improve the image of the entrance (northern) to the municipality.
Under the agreement, Cepsa Comercial Petróleo will undertake the planning work on the secondary roads of the A7 over a stretch of 300 metres, which will result in it being transformed into urban roads that distribute local traffic. Surfacing and pavements will be installed and
there will be a new separation barrier between the roads and the main road. Facilities and service networks will also be improved and a new lighting network will be created on the entire stretch. Cepsa Comercial Petróleo will also be responsible for maintenance of the new roads.

1. Querido profesor, qué bueno tenerle disfrutando un verano más por Sotogrande, su Sotogrande. Habrá visto que cada vez crecemos más, somos más y hay más proyectos de gran nivel en marcha
Feliz de estar aquí, en mi Sotogrande, como siempre. Llevo viniendo sin interrupción desde 1992, y espero seguir disfrutando del verano, que, como digo siempre, es la mejor estación de Sotogrande, salvo las otras tres. Efectivamente, se nota el progreso de nuestra urbanización, y su excelencia, quizá más visible este último año.
2. ¿El mercado inmobiliario de gran calidad sigue con buenos índices y expectativas?
Los datos del sector inmobiliario son buenos, pero hay señales de agotamiento, y un contexto internacional económico, político y financiero, poco tranquilizador. De hecho, se empieza a hablar, por primera vez en muchos años, de una burbuja. El problema de las burbujas es que resulta difícil saber si existen antes de que exploten. De todas formas, la demanda inmobiliaria de residencias de calidad en zonas costeras, como Sotogrande, sigue fuerte, entre otras razones porque está algo más al margen de las nocivas regulaciones que lastran al sector en otros lugares.
3. ¿Y respecto al turismo este 2025? Hay cierto nerviosismo con las cifras.
Comprendo el nerviosismo. Apunté hace poco en El Periódico de Sotogrande que el sector turístico parece haber dejado atrás la etapa de gran expan sión que vivimos después de la pandemia. Su cre cimiento se ha moderado, y se ha desacelerado la llegada de viajeros desde los Estados Unidos.
4. El resto del mundo parece temblar con las pre visiones arancelarias de EE. UU.
El proteccionismo siempre es una mala política, y si lo promueve el mayor país del mundo, peor todavía. Hay nubes en el horizonte económico, y el cierre de los mercados contribuye a alimentar la inquietud.
5. ¿Está la economía española tan en alza como el Gobierno presume?
No. La economía española está “dopada” por el mayor gasto público y un gran aumento de la deuda pública. El crecimiento en esas condiciones difícilmente será sostenible con una política fiscal tan irresponsablemente expansiva, y con el intervencionismo tan dañino que hemos padecido en estos últimos años.
6. Más bien la pregunta sería: ¿seguiremos con gobierno durante mucho tiempo?
Con este Gobierno no seguiremos durante mucho tiempo, gracias a Dios. Como máximo hasta 2027, si es que los escándalos de corrupción no fuerzan a los socios independentistas y de ultraizquierda a
dejarlo caer.
7. ¿Qué retos y desafíos económicos afrontaremos principalmente a la vuelta, en el inicio del curso? ¿A qué debemos estar atentos?
A la subida de la inflación, el freno al crecimiento y el desorden de la Hacienda Pública.
8. Muchas gracias, como siempre, por sus consejos y esperemos que esto también sirva de renovación un año más en El Periódico de Sotogrande… Eso está hecho. Aquí me seguirán encontrando los lectores, si Dios quiere.

1. Dear Professor, it is great to have you enjoying another summer in Sotogrande, your Sotogrande. You will have seen that increasingly we are growing more, there are more of us, and there are more high end projects underway..
I am happy to be here, in my Sotogrande, as always. I have been coming here continuously since 1992, and I hope to continue enjoying summer, which, as I always say, is the best season in Sotogrande, except the other three. Indeed, you can notice the progress in our resort, and its excellence, which is perhaps more visible in the last year.
2. Does the high quality property market still have good rates and prospects?
The figures in the property sector are good, but there are signs of weariness, and an economic, political, and financial international context that is unsettling. In fact, for the first time in many years, people are beginning to talk about a bubble. The problem with bubbles is that it is difficult to know if they exist before they explode. In any case, the property demand for quality homes in coastal areas, such as Sotogrande, remains strong, among other reasons because it is somewhat more distanced from the damaging regulations that cripple the sector in other places.
3. And what about tourism in 2025? Is there a certain nervousness around the figures...
I understand the nervousness. I recently noted in El Periódico de Sotogrande that the tourist sector seems to have left behind the period of great expansion that we experienced after the pandemic. Its growth has been tempered, and the arrival of visitors from the United States has slowed down.
4. The rest of the world seems to be trembling with the tariff forecasts of the United States.
Protectionism is always a bad policy, and if the largest country in the world promotes it, that is even worse. There are clouds on the economic horizon, and the closure of markets feeds concerns.
5. Is the Spanish economy on the rise as much as the Government is boasting?
No. The Spanish economy is “doped” by huge public spending and a great increase in public debt. Growth under those conditions will be hard to sustain with a fiscal policy that is so irresponsibly expansive, and with such damaging interventionism that we have suffered in recent years.
6. Or rather the question should be: will we still have the government for a long time?
We won’t have this Government for long, thank God. At most, up to 2027, and that is if the corruption scandals don’t force the independence supporting and far left partners to let it fall.
7. What financial challenges and obstacles will be mainly be facing on the return, at the start of the year? What should we pay attention to?
The increase in inflation, the slowdown in growth, and disorder in Public Finances.

La Feria de San Roque vuelve un año más cargada de actividades, eventos y espectáculos los vecinos y turistas. Como es habitual, la feria da comienzo con la ceremonia de reinas infantil y juvenil, y finaliza el domingo 17 con un espectáculo de fuegos artificiales. La fiesta se prolongará hasta el lunes 18 con la suelta del Toro del Aguardiente.
El martes, miércoles y jueves se han celebrado los correspondientes actos. El martes se dio el pregón a cargo de José Francisco Román Nuñez “El Pelao”, con la correspondiente actuación de Daniela Niebla y un espectáculo de Soul Fusion, después comenzó el acto de coronación y se cerró la noche con la actuación de Pastora Soler; el miércoles la cabalgata recorrió las principales calles del municipio con el posterior encendido del alumbrado dando por iniciada la feria de San Roque 2025; el jueves los más pequeños se divirtieron con actividades durante toda la mañana, además la primera hora
fue sin ruidos para que pudiesen divertirse los niños y niñas con autismo. Durante la noche se celebró la cena de la tercera edad para los mayores del municipio.
El viernes 15 de agosto se celebra la Festividad de la Patrona Santa María la Coronada. La misa comenzará a las 19:30 horas y seguidamente, a las 20:30 horas, tendrá lugar la salida
procesional por las calles de la ciudad, con el siguiente recorrido: Plaza de la Iglesia, C/ San Felipe, C/ General Lacy, C/ Almoraima, C/ San Felipe y Plaza de la Iglesia. Por su parte, a las 23:00 se procederá a la apertura de la Caseta Municipal. A las 01.00 horas tendrá lugar la actuación musical de Las Soles y la noche continuará con la orquesta.
San Roque Fair returning once again this year
The San Roque Fair returns once again this year, packed with activities, events and shows for locals and tourists alike. As usual, the fair begins with the children’s and youth queen ceremony and ends on Sunday 17th with a fireworks display. The festivities will continue until Monday 18th with the release of the Toro del Aguardiente. The corresponding events were held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday 15 August, the Feast of the Patron Saint Santa María la Coronada will be celebrated. Mass will begin at 7.30 pm and then, at 8.30 pm, the procession will take place

El sábado 16 de agosto, uno de los días fuertes de esta feria, a partir de las 14:00 horas, se celebrará clásica comida de las mujereres en la Caseta Municipal organizada por la Asociación de Mujeres “Carmen Bru”. Por la tarde, a las 19:00 horas, tendrá lugar la Extraordinaria Corrida de toros. A las 23:00 horas abrirá de nuevo sus puertas la Caseta Municipal, que estará amenizada por la orquesta y a partir de la 01:00 horas actuará el artista Álvaro García.
El Domingo Rociero empezará a las 13:00 horas con la Ruta del Tapeo que se procederá a la apertura de Casetas del Domingo Rociero. Los actos destacados en esta jornada serán la Chorizada de la Peña del Toro del Aguardiente, frente a la caseta municipal, y el Concurso 40 x Sevillanas, de la Asociación Cultural Flamenca Vanessa Orrán. Desde las 14:00 horas, se contará con actuaciones en la Caseta Municipal, entre ellas la de Compás Flamenco, además de una exquisita degustación de paella popular para todos los asistentes. La Caseta Municipal abrirá a partir de las 23:00 horas con orquesta y a las 00:00h horas, desde la Alameda Alfonso XI, el Gran espectáculo de Fuegos Artificiales que darán el colofón al fantástico cartel de la Feria Real de San Roque 2025. Una feria que cierra el lunes 18 con el chupinazo a las 07:00 horas, que dará aviso de la suelta del Toro del Aguardiente. El animal será conducido hasta la Plaza de Toros por los miembros de la Peña Cultural Taurina “Toro del Aguardiente”, que será la encargada del encierro. Recordar que la Delegación de Fiestas reparte unas pulseras para niños y niñas con discapacidad cognitiva, de manera que tendrán prioridad a la hora de montarse en los “cacharritos”. Estas pulseras, en las que se incluye un número de teléfono por si el pequeño se pierde en la feria, pueden recogerse en la Casa Consistorial (Alcaldía) y en las alcaldías de las barriadas días antes de cada feria sanroqueña, no sólo de esta Feria Real.

Remember that the Festival Committee distributes bracelets for children with cognitive disabilities, so that they will have priority when riding the ‘cacharritos’ (small rides). These wristbands, which include a telephone number in case the child gets lost at the fair, can be collected at the Town Hall (Mayor’s Office) and at the neighbourhood mayor’s offices in the days leading up to each San Roque fair, not just this Feria Real.

He leído con atención, aunque con un poco de retraso, tu Carta del Director del 1 de agosto. Como asiduo visitante de Sotogrande durante mis vacaciones familiares de verano durante casi una década, he constatado el incremento del problema del tráfico en Sotogrande, no solo en sus accesos sino también particularmente en la Avenida de la Marina. Esta es la carretera que circunvala toda la marina desde la entrada al puerto hasta la rotonda del puente sobre el Guadiaro.
Coincido contigo en que los atascos en los accesos a Sotogrande son un problema presente y futuro. Sin embargo, no estoy del todo de acuerdo en que la solución radique en incrementar la capacidad de las infraestructuras de acceso a Sotogrande, salvo en los casos en que estas sean manifiestamente ineficientes.
El problema del tráfico en Sotogrande deriva fundamentalmente de la alta motorización y la baja ocupación de los vehículos utilizados en sus desplazamientos. Está demostrado desde hace tiempo que el incremento de la capacidad de la red viaria genera un incremento de la demanda de la misma con un crecimiento casi permanente.
Las grandes ciudades con problemas de saturación de sus vías de acceso han abandonado la estrategia de in-

crementar la capacidad de estas. Las han sustituido por otras basadas en incrementar la oferta de medios alternativos de transporte dentro de la ciudad. Fundamentalmente el transporte colectivo, pero también el fomento del uso de bicicletas o patinetes, con la construcción de carriles exclusivos para estos, así como mejorar la comodidad del desplazamiento a pie. Adicionalmente, han tomado medidas disuasorias para el uso de vehículos como el cobro por el estacionamiento en la vía pública y el incremento de calles peatonalizadas.
En mi opinión, Sotogrande, y más en concreto la zona de la marina, se beneficiarían enormemente de este tipo de medidas.
Durante la temporada alta, la Avenida de la Marina tiene una intensidad media diaria
de tráfico que posiblemente es superior a la de la AP7. El aparcamiento es generalmente caótico, por no decir salvaje, a ambos lados de la vía. La acera, que solo existe en uno de los lados de la vía, es compartida por peatones (con o sin perro), corredores, ciclistas y usuarios de patinetes. Las situaciones de estrés, y a veces de peligro, son numerosas debido a las distintas velocidades de los usuarios y lo limitado del espacio, que en algunos tramos está seriamente reducido por el crecimiento de la vegetación lateral. Las personas mayores, aquellas con movilidad reducida y padres con niños pequeños, especialmente cuando estos van en carritos, sufren especialmente la agresividad de esta.
No corren mejor suerte aquellos valientes ciclistas y usuarios de patinetes que se atre-
ven a usar la carretera en vez de la acera para circular por la Avenida de la Marina. Adelantamientos por parte de vehículos sin respetar una distancia mínima de seguridad y a velocidad inadecuada son la norma en vez de la excepción. Mucho me temo que lamentar un accidente grave es más una cuestión de tiempo que de probabilidad.
La situación que describo requiere una intervención valiente y urgente por parte de los responsables de la gestión de esta vía.
Sin perjuicio de opiniones más expertas, me gustaría proponer algunas medidas que no requieren una intervención mayor en la infraestructura pública y con un coste razonable que podrían mejorar la situación de forma casi inmediata. Estas serían las siguientes, ordenadas por simplicidad de ejecución y menor coste:
1. Reducción de la vegetación lateral de la acera existente para asegurar que la misma esté completamente accesible en todo su recorrido.
2. Establecimiento de aparcamiento regulado para residentes y no residentes en la Avenida de la Marina. Como ejemplo de la necesidad de esta medida, animo al lector a observar la existencia de vehículos aparcados durante semanas en la Avenida de la Marina con carteles de “se vende”.
3. Convertir la Avenida de la Marina en una carretera de un solo sentido y un solo carril. Esto reduciría el tráfico a la mitad, permitiría crear un carril bici, mientras que aseguraría el acceso de residentes a los párquines de los edificios. Quizá la mejor opción sería anular el sentido desde la entrada al puerto hasta la rotonda del puente del Guadiaro, ya que gran parte de este tráfico no permanece en la zona de la marina.
4. Eliminar el estacionamiento en el lado de los edificios y construir una acera en su lugar. Esto estimularía a los ocupantes de las viviendas de la marina a desplazarse más caminando o en bici. La eliminación de plazas de aparcamiento puede ser viable si se realiza una gestión del aparcamiento teniendo en cuenta el gran número de vehículos que utilizan las plazas disponibles como aparcamiento de larga duración.

I read, with great attention, although a slight delay, your Director’s Letter on 1 August. As a regular visitor to Sotogrande during my summer family holidays for almost a decade, I have noted the increasing traffic problem in Sotogrande, not only at its entrances but also particularly on Avenida de la Marina. This is the road that runs around the entire marina from the entrance to the port to the roundabout of the bridge over the Guadiaro.
I agree with you that traffic jams at entrances to Sotogrande are a present and future problem. However, I don’t entirely agree that the solution lies in increasing the capacity of the entrance infrastructures to Sotogrande, except in cases where they are clearly inefficient.
The traffic problem in Sotogrande mainly derives from the high level of motorisation and low occupancy levels of vehicles used for trips. It has been proven for some time that the increase in the capacity of the road network generates an increase in its demand with almost permanent growth.
Major cities with overcrowding problems on their entrance roads have abandoned the strategy of increasing the capacity of such roads. They have replaced them with others based on increasing the offer of alternative means of transport within the city. Primarily, collective transport, but also the encouragement of the use of bikes or scooters, with the construction of exclusive lanes for the, as well as improving the comfort of travelling on foot. Additionally, they have taken dissuasive measures for the use of vehicles such as charging for parking on public roads and increasing pedestrianised streets.
In my opinion, Sotogrande, and more specifically the marina area, would greatly benefit from these types of measures.
During the peak season, the Avenida de la Marina has an average daily traffic intensity that is possibly higher than that of the AP7. Parking is generally chaotic, not to say wild, on both sides of the road. The pavement, which only exists on one side of the road, is shared by pedestrians (with or without a dog), runners, cyclists and scooter users. There are many stressful, and sometimes dangerous situations, due to the different speeds of the users and how limited space is, which in some stretches is seriously reduced by growth of vegetation at the side of the road. Elderly people, those with reduced mobility and parents with small children, especially when they are in prams, especially suffer from this aggressiveness.
The situation is no better for the brave cyclists and users of scooters who dare to use the road instead of the pavement in order to travel around Avenida de la Marina. Overtaking by vehicles without respecting a minimal safety distance and inappropriate speed are the norm rather than the exception. I really fear that having to regret a serious accident is more a question of time than probability. The situation I am describing requires a brave and urgent intervention by those in charge of management of this road.
Without prejudice to more expert opinions, I would like to propose some measures that don’t require a greater intervention in public infrastructure
and at a reasonable cost that could improve the situation almost immediately. These would be as followed, ordered according to the simplicity of implementation and lower cost:
1. Reduction of the vegetation at the side of the existing paving to ensure that it is completely accessible along its entire route.
2. Establishment of regulated parking
for residents and non-residents on Avenida de la Marina. As an example of the need for this measure, I encourage the reader to observe the existence of vehicles parked for weeks on Avenida de la Marina with “for sale” signs.
3. Turn Avenida de la Marina into a one way road and single lane road. This would reduce traffic by half, it
would make it possible to create a bike lane, while ensuring the access of residents to the car parks of buildings. Perhaps the best option would be to remove the direction from the entrance to the port up to the roundabout of the bridge in Guadiaro, as a large part of this traffic doesn’t remain in the marina area.
4. Remove parking at the side of buil-
dings and build paving in its place. This would encourage the occupants of properties in the marina to travel more on foot or by bike. The elimination of parking spaces can be viable if parking is managed considering the large number of vehicles that use the available spaces as long stay parking.

No se trata de renunciar ni de temer la tecnología, sino de integrar su capacidad generadora con un propósito mayor: vivir con presencia, coherencia y equilibrio. El estoico no huye del mundo, lo habita con alma. Si la IA es un espejo potente, que nos devuelva reflejos de nuestra humanidad y nos invite a pensar mejor, entonces, sí: que viva la inteligencia artificial… al servicio de la sabiduría.

Artificial Intelligence and Stoic Virtue
In a world where Artificial Intelligence promises to hold all the answers, it is easy to fall into the temptation of delegating almost all thought and attention. However, as the stoics teach us, our wellbeing should never depend on what we don’t control. Epictetus distinguished between what depends on you and what doesn’t; also an ideal principle in the era of algorithms: we can control how we use AI, but not its automated results. That understanding, far from limiting, provides inner freedom.
Imagine an AI that orders your data, organises your ideas or suggests relationships between philosophical texts. That is assistance worthy of the modern stoic: it doesn’t replace thinking, it strengthens it. However, when we begin to let the algorithm decide for us, we are abandoning the compass of our inner judgement. The key question isn’t what AI can do for you, but rather what you choose to do with what it offers you.
Negative visualization, another stoic tool, can help us to prevent technological dependency. And what if the systems fail or are imposed without control in the future? Foreseeing that possibility isn’t pessimism: it is protecting your virtue. Eudaimonia isn’t mastery of technique, but rather the awareness that with our without AI, your intact soul is the essential thing.
Ultimately, true intentionality resides in who is behind the keyboard. Schopenhauer said that will shapes the world. In a hyperconnected context, choosing to cultivate wisdom instead of noise is a revolutionary decision. AI can be an ally, but only if use it to increase clarity, not to dispel it.
This isn’t about giving up or fearing technology but rather integrating its generative capacity with greater purpose: to live with presence, consistency, and balance. The stoic doesn’t flee the world, they inhabit it with soul. If AI is a powerful mirror, that mirrors back reflections of our humanity and invites us to think better, then, yes: long live artificial intelligence...at the service of wisdom.

Sotogrande acoge el próximo 20 de agosto una jornada deportiva, solidaria y llena de energía. Charity Paddle Surf Race, una carrera benéfica que contará con la colaboración del Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande y la coordinación de la empresa Blua Blue Watersports con el objetivo de apoyar la labor de la Asociación Tiles, que trabajan desde 2015 por la integración de las personas con discapacidad a través del deporte y la acción social.

The finalists for the Terralpa Silver Cup High Handicap final have been decided: Amanara and Black Bears, teams that reached the final after defeating MB Polo Team and La Dolfina Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, respectively. El equipo compuesto por Robert Strom, Dillon Bacon, Hilario Ulloa y Tommy Beresford ganó el primer título de máxima categoría de polo del 54° Torneo Internacional de Polo tras ganar 9 a 8 a su rival.
Ambos conjuntos dieron lo máximo desde el pitido inicial. En la primera mitad del partido se vieron algunas de las

El polo y Sotogrande forman un binomio intrínseco y fuertemente ligado desde los inicios de la urbanización. La influencia de Enrique Zobel y su idea de asentar el polo como uno de los pilares en la personalidad del resort es a día de hoy, más de seis décadas después, un pilar sin el que es complicado entender el estilo de vida de Sotogrande y su comunidad.
En este caso, como bien ilus-
tran las imágenes, POLO by La Bocha quiere recordar ese periodo y etapa entre dos ciclos muy importantes para el polo en la urbanización como fue el salto entre finales de los años 70 y los años 80. Especialmente con el periodo en la que se mantuvo muy activa la cancha de Paniagua, afincada en uno de los entornos más privilegiados de Sotogrande.
Recordar que fue, por situar
en contexto, en 1973 cuando se celebró la primera edición de Copa de Plata en el Torneo de Verano, cuyo vencedor fue el equipo de Sotogrande y precisamente, al año siguiente se inauguró la cancha de polo de Paniagua. Para fijar un poco más de información a este respecto, destacar su enorme importancia durante algunos momentos de la historia del resort, ya que un fuerte temporal y crecida de agua se llevó por

delante la cancha de la playa en 1984.
La cancha de Paniagua acogió numerosos encuentros e inolvidables trofeos con toda la esencia del polo en Sotogrande. Destacar que meses más tarde al incidente de la cancha de la playa se comenzó con la construcción de unas
nuevas canchas que tomarían el relevo de Panigua (ya prácticamente en desuso) canchas de Río, que entre 1985 y 1986 tomaría el relevo de Paniagua y se convertirían durante años en la sede central de los torneos de polo en la urbanización. En ese momento las nuevas canchas junto al río (con acceso actual por calle Ramiro el montje), serían renombradas bajo las denominaciones de Sotogrande I y Sotogrande II. Destacar como dato histórico que la edición de 1989 quedará marcada en el histórico por su obligada suspensión a causa de la peste equina.
La evolución del destino seguiría creciendo con las canchas de Puente de Hierro, fundadas en 1992; y años más tarde, en 1995, se construyeron las canchas de Haciendas de San Enrique I y II, otro gran avance de instalaciones políticas en la zona. En 1998 participaron por primera vez más de 1.000 caballos en el torneo, un paso hacia delante que puso en marcha un crecimiento exponencial año tras año, edición tras edición, que iría aumentando por encima de la treintena los equipos profesionales participantes torneo cada verano en Sotogrande. Diez años más tarde, en 2008, llega el salto definitivo a nivel cuantitativo y cualitativo con la inauguración de la zona de Los Pinos de Santa María Polo Club.

The influence of Enrique Zobel and his idea of establishing polo as one of the pillars in the character of the resort is now, more than six decades later, a pillar without which it is difficult to understand the lifestyle of Sotogrande and its community.
In this case, as the images illustrate well, POLO by La Bocha wants to remember that period and stage between two very important cycles for polo in the resort, namely the leap between the end of the 70’s
and the 80’s. Especially with the period in which the field at Paniagua remained very active, based in one of the most privileged parts of Sotogrande.
It is worth remembering that, to provide context, in 1973 when the first edition of the Silver Cup took place in the Summer Cup, won by the Sotogrande team and indeed, the Paniagua polo field opened the following year. To offer a little more information in this regard, it is worth highlighting its enormous importance during some moments in the history of the resort, as a strong storm and flood wiped out the
beach pitch in 1984.
The Paniagua field hosted several matches and unforgettable trophies with all the essence of polo in Sotogrande. It is worth highlighting that months after the incident of the beach field, construction began on new pitches that would take over from Paniagua (now practically unused), the Río fields, which between 1985 and 1986 would take over from Paniagua and for years become the main venue for polo tournaments in the resort. At that point, the new fields next to the river (with entrance on the current Calle Ramiro el Montje) would be remained as Sotogrande I and Sotogrande II. As an historic figure it is worth highlighting that the 1989 edition will go down in history as it was forced to be suspended due to horse sickness.

tion would continue to grow with the fields of Puente de Hierro, founded in 1992; and years later, in 1995, the Haciendas de San Enrique pitches I and II were built, another great advance in polo facilities in the area. In 1998, more than 1,000 horses participated in the tournament for the first time, a step forward that launched exponential growth year
after year, edition after edition, which increased to over thirty professional teams participating in the tournament each summer in Sotogrande.
Ten years later, in 2008, the definitive leap at a quantitative and qualitative level came with the opening of the Los Pinos area at Santa María Polo Club.

The sales, held in London, Paris, Stockholm, and Copenhagen, brought in a total of over 22 million Euros.
Quality private collections with exceptional provenance obtained outstanding results. It is worth highlighting the sale of 28 lots of Song ceramics from the collection of the late Emmanuel Christofides, which sold for £5,246,000 in London in May 2025. La Hacienda Links Golf Resort se sitúa a la vanguardia del golf español en la preservación del medioambiente tras poner en marcha un ambicioso programa de iniciativas destinadas a reforzar sus credenciales sostenibles y reducir su huella ecológica.
En línea con su compromiso a largo plazo con la sostenibilidad, este resort de 36 hoyos en la Costa del Sol ha invertido en soluciones para sus instalaciones de golf que abordan los retos medioambientales más relevantes a los que se enfrentan los campos de golf en todo el mundo. Entre las mejoras destaca una profunda renovación en la gestión del consumo de agua y energía, que ha permitido reducir el uso de agua en un 20 %.
Uno de los ejes principales ha sido la optimización del riego de sus dos campos de 18 hoyos, Links y Heathland, manteniéndolos en perfectas condiciones durante todo el año.
Los golfistas ya disfrutan de unos greenes renovados con césped Bermuda, muy resistente a la sequía y a las enfermedades, lo que reduce de forma drástica la necesidad de agua y productos químicos, con una excelente jugabilidad. Además, se han eliminado más de cinco hectáreas de riego no esencial, sustituyéndolas por la plantación de 200.000 lentiscos resistentes a la sequía, que también sirven de hábitat para la
biodiversidad autóctona. El riego restante se ha optimizado gracias a la implantación del sistema CirrusPRO de Rain Bird, que permite a los greenkeepers monitorizar y ajustar más de 1.200 aspersores en toda la finca para asegurar que el consumo de agua no exceda lo estrictamente necesario en función de las condiciones meteorológicas de cada día. La introducción de este sistema ha logrado un ahorro del 20 % del uso del agua. Los greenes, al igual que el
resto del recorrido, se mantienen con maquinaria híbrida en lugar de cortacéspedes tradicionales. Estas unidades están equipadas no generan emisiones de carbono ni riesgo de fugas de aceite, además cortan de manera más eficiente y precisa.
Paralelamente, el equipo de mantenimiento de La Hacienda ha llevado a cabo una renovación integral de la estación de bombeo, lo que ha reducido de manera significativa el consumo de electricidad y las emisiones de CO₂. Esta actuación refleja una vez más la apuesta del resort por utilizar únicamente los recursos necesarios para la demanda diaria, evitando desperdicios y optimizando la operatividad.
Aprovechando el clima soleado de la Costa del Sol, La Hacienda ha instalado paneles solares en el aparcamiento como fuente de energía renovable. Asimismo, su aclamado halfway house, reconocido como el mejor del mundo en los World Golf Awards 2024, se ha construido con materiales de la más alta calidad y máxima sostenibilidad. Entre los planes más recientes se ha incluido la eliminación de botellas de plástico, sustituyéndolas por fuentes de agua distribuidas por todo el complejo para que los jugadores puedan hidratarse mientras disfrutan de los recorridos.

La Hacienda Links Golf Resort is at the cutting-edge of Spanish golf for environmental preservation after launching an ambitious program of initiatives aimed at strengthening its sustainable credentials and reducing its environmental footprint.
In line with its long term commitment to sustainability, this 36 hole resort on the Costa del Sol has invested in solutions for its golfing facilities that tackle the most significant challenges faced by golf courses around the world. The improvements notably include a thorough renewal of the management of the consumption of water and energy, which has made it possible to cut the use of water by 20%.
One of the main pillars was optimisation of irrigation on its two 18 hole courses, Links and Heathland, keeping them in perfect condition throughout the year.
Golfers are already enjoying the benefits of revamped greens with Bermuda grass, which is very drought and disease resistant, which drastically reduces the need for water and chemical products, while ensuring excellent playability. Also, over five hectares of non-essential irrigation have been eliminated, replacing them with the planting of 200,000 drought resistant mastic trees that also serve as a habitat for indigenous biodiversity.
The remaining irrigation has been optimised thanks to the implantation of the CirrusPRO system by Rain Bird, which allows the greenkeepers to monitor and adjust over 1,200 sprinklers on the entire estate to ensure that the consumption of water doesn’t exceed what is strictly necessary according to the weather conditions each day.
The introduction of this system has had an immediate impact, attaining a 20% reduction in the use of water. Alongside this, the maintenance team at La Hacienda has carried out a complete revamp of the pumping station, which has significantly reduced the consumption of electricity and CO₂ emissions. This action once again reflects the resort’s commitment to only use the resources needed for daily demand, preventing waste and optimising operability.
Harnessing the sunny climate of the Costa del Sol, La Hacienda has installed solar panels in the car park as a source of renewable energy. Likewise, its acclaimed halfway house, renowned as the best in the world at the World Golf Awards 2024, was built with materials of the highest quality and maximum sustainability. The most recent plans have included the elimination of plastic bottles, replacing them with water fountains spread around the entire complex to allow players to hydrate while enjoying the rounds.

La XXVI Copa Sotogrande - XI Memorial Antonio Muñoz Cabrero, torneo puntuable para el Campeonato de Andalucía de
Cruceros ORC, concluyó el pasado domingo en una jornada con unas condiciones viento ligero que influyeron en los re-
corridos de la competición. La situación meteorológica no perjudicó demasiado el programa del campeonato y per-
mitió completar todas las mangas previstas. La última jornada para la categoría de cruceros concluyó con
la regata costera, una cita esperada debido a su cancelación el día anterior por falta de viento. Se pudo realizar un recorrido de 10 millas, aunque las condiciones meteorológicas, con un viento inicial de 7-8 nudos, que aunque fue disminuyendo progresivamente, el comitésevioobligadoaacortarlo.
La cita, que contó con el respaldo de Puerto Sotogrande y la organización del Real Club Marítimo Sotogrande, volvió a afianzarse como una fecha indiscutible en el calendario náutico andaluz.

XXVI Sotogrande Cup
The XXVI Sotogrande Cup - XI Antonio Muñoz Cabrero Memorial, a qualifying tournament for the Andalusian ORC Cruisers Championship, ended last Sunday with light wind conditions that influenced the competition routes. The weather situation didn’t harm the championship programme too much and it was possible to complete all the planned heats.
The last day for the cruiser category ended with the coastal race, an eagerly awaited event due to its cancellation a day early due to a lack of wind. It was possible to undertake a route of 10 miles, although the weather conditions, with an initial wind of 7-8 knots, which gradually fell, forced the committee to shorten the route.
The event, which was supported by Sotogrande Port and organised by Real Club Marítimo Sotogrande, was strengthened again as an unquestionable event on the Andalusian
nautical calendar.

Tras una jornada deportivo de

With a fantastic Welcome Pack, the players tackled the ever competitive and appealing Links, with the best views over the Strait of Gibraltar and North Africa, undoubtedly one of the most spectacular golf
courses in southern Europe. Each year, it is a privilege to enjoy the embrace and accompaniment of this summer classic which manages to gather the essence of golf in Sotogrande around golf.
After a successful day of sport, it was time for the relaxed atmosphere and enjoying a fantastic cocktail at the Club House of La Hacienda, with exquisite catering accompanied by wines, as you would expect, from Marqués de Riscal.
As for the winners, it is worth highlighting the individual awards for Best Individual Handicap for Javier Vaca; while the best Scratch went to
Daniel Palma. As for the pairs awards, in the Second Category, the winners were: Francisco del Río and José Luis Troyano, followed by Pablo Trujillo and Francisco Calvente; while in the First Category, victory went to the pairing formed by: Joachim Agrell and Pablo Herrera; followed by Carlos Menor and Daniel Ambrona. El XII Circuito de Golf Sotogrande afronta su fase decisiva y final con las dos últimas citas puntuables del calendario de pruebas regular y que serán juez y verdugo de los jugadores para esta edición de 2025, ya que serán las dos últimas oportunidades de labrarse un hueco y un puesto la Gran Final, el próximo noviembre en el legendario Real Club Valderrama.
La primera cita, ya a la vuelta de la esquina y con muy pocas plazas disponibles en el casillero, se celebra el próximo sábado, 23 de agosto, en el espectacular trazado Links de La Hacienda Golf. Con las listas de jugadores prácticamente al completo, sólo restan unas plazas para disfrutar de uno de los torneos más especiales del curso en un campo imposible de comprar.
