SOTOGRANDE, VALDERRAMA Y LA UNIVERSALIDAD DEL GOLF

Con los últimos pliegos de la edición de La Revista Sotogrande que sostiene sobre sus manos, con el robo de unos afortunados minutos por mi parte, me da tiempo a recoger un hecho que en el futuro será determinante para el golf profesional y por lo tanto, para destinos tan vinculados a la práctica de este deporte y sede de eventos de gran nivel internacional como Sotogrande, y más especialmente: Real Club Valderrama, como en el inminente torneo que disfrutaremos en cuestión de días.

La puesta en común de intereses y una alianza que parecía inevitable pero que hasta ahora no se ha plasmado con tinta real, entre LIV Golf, PGA y DP World, vaticinan un sólido y contundente futuro para los principales organismos del golf profesional. Todo apuntaba a que estaban condenados a entenderse, por el bien del aficionado, del jugador y especialmente por el bien del golf; pero ya puede presumir este bendito deporte de contar con una salud y un futuro formidable.

Mientras tanto, como sede en los próximos años de LIV Golf, el Real Club Valderrama y su torneo (quién sabe si éste será el único en la zona), saldrá más reforzado y aún con mayores perspectivas internacionales y de premios. Una alianza permitiría ver a los mejores jugadores del planeta, de cualquiera de sus circuitos, peleando por lo más alto en Valderrama, en Sotogrande. ¡Menuda fortuna de vivir el golf y de vivir en esta urbanización!

Por lo demás, viene un verano de infarto: Polo con 22 goles de Alto, regatas, cumpleaños [entre ellos el 25 aniversario de El Periódico de Sotogrande y el 60 de Sotogrande®], conciertos, presentaciones y muchas sorpresas más. ¡Disfrútenlo! Ah, se me olvidaba, también nos toca volver a votar.

A SOTOGRANDE, VALDERRAMA, AND THE UNIVERSALITY OF GOLF

With the last few pages of the edition of Sotogrande Magazine that you are holding, robbing a few fortunate minutes, I have time to outline a fact which will be decisive for professional golf in the future and therefore, for destinations so closely linked to the practice of this sport and a venue for events of a great international level such as Sotogrande, and most especially: Real Club Valderrama, such as at the imminent tournament that we will enjoy in a matter of days.

The pooling of interests and a partnership that seemed inevitable but which thus far had not manifested itself in a real way, between LIV Golf, PGA and DP World, points to a strong and resounding future for the main professional golf bodies. Everything suggested that they were condemned to get along, for the good of fans, players and especially, for the good of golf; but this blessed sport can already boast of having good health and a fantastic future.

Meanwhile, as a venue over the coming years of LIV Golf, Real Club Valderrama and its tournament (who knows if this will be the only one in the area), will be further strengthened and with greater international prospects and prizes. A partnership that could make it possible to see the best players in the world, from any of its circuits, battling it out for the top spot at Valderrama, in Sotogrande. How lucky we are to enjoy golf and to live in this resort!

Otherwise, we have a heart stopping summer ahead: Polo with 22 goals in the High Handicap category, regattas, birthdays (including the 25th anniversary of El Periódico de Sotogrande and the 60th of Sotogrande®], concerts, presentations and many more surprises. El histórico y legendario campo de golf situado en el corazón de Sotogrande acogerá el octavo evento de la temporada 2023 del circuito LIV Golf. The historic and legendary course, in the heart of Sotogrande, will host the eighth event of the 2023 LIV Golf season. Real Club Valderrama is widely regarded as one ofthe finest continental golf courses, and it holds a special place in golf history due to the unforgettable moments from the 1997 Ryder Cup. This event stands out as a highlight in the club’s and Spanish golfing history.

It marked the debut of Lee Westwood, who played a crucial role in the European team's victory that year over the American team, which included renowned golfer Phil Mickelson, in a closelycontestedmatch.BothWestwood and Mickelson will be participating in the upcoming tournament, adding to to many of the storylines heading into the inaugural LIV Golf Valderrama event.

Furthermore, Valderrama holds significant sentimental value as an iconic venue, particularly for Spanish legend and 2017 Masters Champion, Sergio García. The Spanish golfer has achieved remarkable success at Valderrama, winning the Andalucía Masters there on three occasions in 2011, 2017, and 2018.

Formato del LIV Golf

Alolargodelatemporada,48jugadores compitenen12equiposquejuegantres rondas y con todos los participantes comenzando al mismo tiempo en lo que se conoce como ‘shotgun-start’ (salida a tiro). Cada jugador compite simultáneamente por los puntos

individuales,asícomoporlospuntosde equipo para determinar los campeones individualesydeequipoencadaevento del LIV Golf . El campeón de la liga individual 2023 se decidirá en función de los puntos acumulados a lo largo de toda la temporada, mientras que el campeonato por equipos se decidirá en un torneo de final de temporada.

LIV Golf - The Format

Throughout the season, 48 players compete in 12 teams who play three rounds with all the participants beginning at the same time in what is known as a shotgun-start. Each player competes simultaneously for individual honours, as well as team points to determine individual and team champions at each LIVGolf event. The overall 2023 Individual league champion will be decided on points accumulated throughout the season and theTeam Championship is decided in an end of season tournament.

Un Masters de Augusta para el recuerdo

“No lo soñamos, no. ¡Fue REAL!”. Así lo celebraron en redes sociales, con estas mismas palabras, los aficionados al golf que asistieron atónitos el pasado abril a la gran final del último Masters de Augusta y a la flamante victoria de Jon Rahm. Una cita para el recuerdo que aupó al español al podio de los mejores jugadores del mundo, vestido ya con la legendaria chaqueta verde.

“Nunca pensé que iba a llorar después de ganar un torneo de golf, pero estuve muy cerca en el hoyo 18. Mucho de eso se debe a lo que significa el golf para mí”, dijo el vasco después de hacer exhibición durante cuatro días de su determinación y enfoque en este Torneo de Maestros número 87. Rahm se convirtió así en el cuarto español en conseguir este Master y lo hizo en una fecha de lo más especial, el 9 de abril,

día en que el recordado Seve Ballesteros hubiera cumplido 66 años. Un dato que ha añadido todavía más emoción a una victoria ya de por sí espectacular.

Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Jon Rahm. Todos ellos comparten el prestigio de haber lucido la mítica chaqueta verde, pero también de haber sido testimoniales de la casa Rolex, cuyo compromiso con el golf se mantienevivo desde hace sesenta años. El Rolex de Jon Rahm

TrassuvictoriaenelMastersdeAugusta de 2023, Jon Rahm acudió a recoger la chaqueta verde luciendo en su muñeca un espectacular Rolex Sky-Dweller de acero y oro blanco y esfera azul, uno de los más especiales de la casa relojera.

Scarlet Alexandra

We are meeting Scarlet Alexandra, the Sotogrande artist behind the colourful pictures of Sotogrande that are revolutionising Instagram.

La creatividad nace del aburrimiento. Seguramente les suena esta frase. La escuchamos a menudo durante aquella larga primavera de 2020 cuando la pandemia nos obligó a confinarnos en casa con cientos de horas vacías por rellenar. Una frase contra el desaliento que, en el caso de Scarlet, no pudo ser más acertada.

Ella, en su casa de Londres, decidió aprovechar el encierro para retomar su afición por el dibujo. De manera autodidacta y a través de tutoriales aprendió a hacer arte digital y para probar lo aprendido se puso a dibujar aquellos paisajes que más conocía, los paisajes que la vieron crecer en Sotogrande. Lo que empezó como un

simple entretenimiento, ha acabado por cambiarle la vida.

“Yo tenía cero experiencia, lo hacía solo para ocuparme mientras estaba sin nada que hacer. Empecé a dibujar ilustraciones de Sotogrande y las subía a Instagram. Entonces mucha gente empezó a decirme que quería comprarlas”, explica a la Revista de Sotogrande. Tres años después de aquellos primeros dibujos, Scarlet se dedica profesionalmente a diseñar sus láminas, caracterizadas por su estilo retro, sus colores vivos e impregnados de luz, sus escenas glamurosas y relajadas. La mayoría de ellas, con el telón de fondo de Sotogrande.

Creativity is born out of boredom. You will undoubtedly have heard this phrase. We often heard it during that long spring of2020when the pandemic forced us to stay at homewith hundreds of empty hours to fill. A phrase against discouragement which, in the case of Scarlet, could not be more correct.

She, in her house in London, decided to make the most of the lockdown to return to her passion for drawing. In a self-taught way and using tutorials, she learned to create digital art and to test what she learned she began drawing the landscapes she knew best, the landscapes of her childhood in Sotogrande. What began as a simple

form of entertainment, has ended up changing her life.

“I had zero experience, I only did it to occupy myself while I had nothing to do. I began drawing illustrations of Sotogrande and I uploaded them to Instagram. Then, lots of people began tellingmethattheywantedtobuythem” she explains to Sotogrande Magazine. Three years after those first drawings, Scarlet works professionally to design illustrations, characterised by her retro style, her lively colours and imbued with light, her glamourous and relaxed scenes. Most of them have Sotogrande as a background.

“De pequeña siempre me encantaban las láminas que veía de Madrid o de Londres, pero nunca veía nada de mi pueblo. Creo que eso es precisamente lo que ha atraído a la gente. La mayoría de mis clientes son personas que viven en Sotogrande o que tienen casa de verano en Sotogrande o que vienen de vacaciones por aquí y deciden llevarse algo de este pueblo para enmarcar”.

Su estilo es fácilmente reconocible por su luminosidad y su elegancia inspirada, cuenta Scarlet, en el estilo de la vieja cartelería de los años 60 o 70 o en fotógrafos como Slim Aarons especializados en retratar en aquellos años a la alta sociedad. Sus creaciones tienen además el sello de lo exclusivo. Scarlet solo crea ediciones limitadas, cien copias por cada ilustración.

“Desde el principio no quise repetir los mismos dibujos, me daba miedo quedarme estancada. Pensé que si solo hago cien, eso me obliga a hacer más cosas, a mejorar cada vez más”. El éxito de las láminas de Scarlet ha sido tal que en estos tres años se han agotado algunas series de sus dibujos, empezando por la primera que realizó en abril de 2020 y que muestra una colorida imagen del Paseo del Parque de Sotogrande. En homenaje a aquella primera serie, ahora la artista está pensando en hacer “una versión nueva del Paseo del Parque, totalmente distinta”.

“As a little girl, I always loved the illustrations I saw of Madrid and London, but I never saw anything of my town. I believe that is exactly what has attracted people. Most of my clients are people who live in Sotogrande or who have a summer home in Sotogrande or who come here on holidays and decide to take a little piece of the town home to frame.”

Her style is easily recognisable for its brightness and inspired elegance, states Scarlet, in the style of old posters from the 60’s or 70’s or photographers such as Slim Aarons, who specialised in capturing high society during those years. Her creations also have the seal of exclusivity. Scarlet only created limited editions, one hundred copies of each illustration.

“From the outset, I didn’t want to repeat the same drawings, I was afraid of stagnation. I thought that if I only make one hundred, that forces me to do more things, to improve each time.” Scarlet has been so successful with her illustrations that over these three years some series of her drawings have sold out, beginning with the first she created in April 2020 which depicts a colourful image of Paseo del Parque in Sotogrande. As a tribute to that first series, the artist is now thinking about creating a “new, completely different version of Paseo del Parque.”

Su propuesta, con adn cien porcien andaluz, se apoya en productos del territorio procedentes de lugares como Coín, Nerja o Marbella. Ya en agosto, concretamente el día 12, será el turno de la gastronomía lusa. El chef portugués Tiago Bonito del restaurante Largo do Paço acompañará ese día a los comensales de The Beach para presentarles los mejores platos gourmet del otro lado del Guadiana. Galardonado igualmente con una estrella Michelín, Tiago Bonito se ha consolidado como uno de los chefs más destacados en su país, capaz de crear unviaje gastronómico de excelencia, en un dulce equilibrio entre la sabiduría popular y la alta cocina.

Prepare your palates because the journey is getting underway on 15 July with the prestigious French chef Nico Isnard, head of the restaurant Auberge delaCharme,intheregionofBurgundy, awarded a Michelin Star. Alongside the kitchen team at The Beach, Isnard will prepare a representation of the best of French cuisine garnished with a multicultural feel. Curious, ambitious and audacious, Isnard has created a unique brand where the quality of the produce takes precedence and where the flavour takes on meaning. In addition to 15 July, the French chef will repeat his experience at The Beach on 26 August.

The second gastronomic journey will take place on 29 July, on that day the chef Fernando Villasclaras from Restaurante El Lago Marbella, holder of a Michelin Star, will take charge of the kitchen at The Beach. His proposal, with one hundred percent Andalusian DNA, is based on produce from the territory from places such as Coín, Nerja and Marbella. She opened her first restaurant in 2010 in the heart of Mexico City, in the Roma neighbourhood. Under the name “Rosetta,” that place was initially known for its homemade pastas, and the delicious flavour of its bread. However, over time the menu moved towards seasonal Mexican produce, the star role of good ingredients, respect, and care for processes and for the natural environment where they are grown. Today, ‘Rosetta’ is renowned as one of the best restaurants in all of Latin America and its chef, a graduate of English Literature who turned to the world of gastronomy, is one of the planet’s best chefs.

Her name is Elena Reygadas and in 2023 she was recognised in the prestigious British list “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants” which, in addition to offering the best places to eat in the world, also recognises the talent, creativity and good work of the best female chefs each year.

Ella, que define la cocina como un "arte colectivo", expresó al conocerse el premio su gratitud a todas las mujeres mexicanas "que cocinan día a día", manteniendo viva la " tradición culinaria" de su país. Una figura –la mujer cocinera- que siempre ha sido fundamental desde el principio de los tiempos y que, sin embargo, nunca ha sido suficientemente reconocida. O por ejemplo la peruana Pia León, galardonada en 2021. Chef del restaurante Kjolle, en Lima. Templo gastronómico que toma el nombre de un árbol capaz de crecer en alturas extremas,defloresnaranjasycoloridas, como colorida y excitante es la propuesta de León.

Reygadas collected the award for being "one of the most important figures in Mexican gastronomy", as well as an "ardent defender of biodiversity and sustainable culture", highlighted the one thousand culinary experts that comprisethejuryofthislistintheirfinal verdict.

Upon the announcement of the prize, the chef who defines cuisine as a “collective art” expressed her gratitude to all the Mexican women who “cook on a daily basis” keeping the “culinary tradition” of their country alive. A figure -the woman cook- that always been crucial since the beginning of time and that, however, has never been sufficient recognised.Not,forexample,inthecase of the major awards or rankings for haute cuisine.

Fortunately, that reality has begun to change and a good example of that are the names of the predecessors of Reygadas. Names such as the ColombianLeonorEspinosa,considered thebestfemalechefin2022.Ownerand driving force behind the Leo restaurant, in Bogota, capable of combining in her dishes the particularity of an entire country, emphasising the flavours of the sea, mountain, moor, rainforest and mangrove.

RECUPERAR LA PRESENCIA

La francesa Eugenie Brazier está considerada como la primera mujer chef reconocida por un premio gastronómico. En 1933 Brazier formó parte de la primera promoción de chefs en obtener 3 estrellas en la Guía Michelin en sus restaurantes de Lyon y en col de la Luère, en Pollionnay.

Otras seguirían después sus pasos como Marie Bourgeois, Marguerite Bise o Anne-Sophie Pic. Todas ellas merecedoras de tres estrellas –las dos primeras en 1951 y la tercera en 2007-. Aun así, la representación femenina en las grandes guías gastronómicas sigue siendo desigual.

Por ejemplo en España, de los 228 restaurantes con alguna estrella

Michelin, solo 24 tienen a una mujer como cocinera, lo que supone un 10,5% del total. La cifra es claramente insuficiente aunque supone un evidente cambio de tendencia, diez años atrás solo diez de los restaurantes reconocidos estaba liderado por una mujer.

En esa línea de avances sucesivos ha sido muy importante el empuje que ha dado a la visibilidad de la mujer en la alta cocina el esfuerzo y el tesón de grandes referentes como la catalana Carme Ruscalleda. Ella es en la actualidad la única mujer del mundo que posee siete estrellas Michelin, tres por su restaurante Sant Pau en San Pol de Mar (Barcelona), dos por Moments, en Barcelona, y dos más por el restaurante Sant Pau en Tokio. Su cocina está fundamentada en la tradición de la cocina catalana, pero

siempre con un toque de modernidad. El hecho de abrir un restaurante en Japónysusconsecuentesviajesalpaís, hizo que se interesase por algunas de sus técnicas culinarias, adaptándolas a la cocinayproductos catalanes.

Otro nombre propio de la alta cocina española es el de Elena Arzak. La actual jefa de cocina del restaurante Arzak, en San Sebastián, que dirige junto a su padre, cuenta con todo tipo de reconocimientos a su trayectoria culinaria. En 2001 recibió el premio Chef de l’Avenir de la Academia InternacionaldeGastronomía.En2010, el Premio Nacional de Gastronomía Española, y en 2012 fue ganadora del premio Veuve Clicquot a la mejor chef femenina del mundo. RECOVERING THE PRESENCE

The French chef Eugenie Brazier is considered the first female chef to be awarded a gastronomic prize. In 1933, Brazier was part of the first class of chefs to obtain 3 stars in the Michelin Guide at their restaurants in Lyon and in Col de la Luère, in Pollionnay.

Others would follow in her footsteps afterwards such as Marie Bourgeois, Marguerite Bise and Anne-Sophie Pic.

All deserving of three stars -the first two in 1951 and the third in 2007-. Even so, the representation of women in major gastronomic guides remains unequal.

For example in Spain, of the 228 restaurants with a Michelin Star, only 24 have a woman as a chef, which

amounts to 10.5% of the total. The figure is clearly insufficient although it shows a clear change in the trend, ten years ago only ten of the renowned restaurants were run by a woman.

In this line of successive advances, the momentum given to the visibility of women and house cuisine and the effort and determination of great benchmarks such as the Catalan Carme Ruscalleda has been very important. She is currently the only women in the world who has seven Michelin stars, three for her restaurant SantPauinSanPoldeMar(Barcelona), two for Moments, in Barcelona, and two more for the restaurant Sant Pau in Tokyo. Her cuisine is based on the tradition of Catalan cuisine, but always with a touch of modernity. The fact she opened a restaurant in Japan and her

consequent trips around the country, made her take an interest in some of its culinary techniques, and adapt them to Catalan cuisine and produce.

Another big name in Spanish haute cuisine is Elena Arzak. The current head chef at the Arzak restaurant, in San Sebastian, which she runs with her father, has all kinds of recognitions for her culinary trajectory. In 2001 she received the Chef de l’Avenir award from the International Academy of Gastronomy. In 2010, she won the Spanish National Gastronomy Award, and in 2012 shewon theVeuve Clicquot award for the world’s best female chef. Local produce, the development of Basque cuisine, the cutting-edge and research are the pillars of her cuisine.

Ya en el ámbito internacional el catálogo de la excelencia femenina dentro de la alta cocina se expande por todos los rincones del globo. Entre las figuras que hay que conocer sí o sí hay que empezar necesariamente por un nombre que ya hemos señalado antes, todo un referente a nivel mundial: Anne-Sophie Pic, responsable del restaurante Maison Pic. Un restaurante familiar de tradición centenaria –fue fundado por su bisabuela- situado en la localidad de Valence, entre Lyon y Aviñón, un lugar de peregrinación para los paladares más exigentes de Francia.

Vino y marisco son excelentes compañeros de mesa, pero aprender a maridarlos correctamente puede ser todo un reto. Encontrar el equilibrio entre sabor, frescura y acidez es la clave para disfrutar de estos infalibles manjares.

Existe una regla no escrita entre los aficionados al vino. El pescado y el marisco siempre maridan mejor con blanco. Y en parte tiene toda la razón. Para realzar el sabor a mar, esa inconfundible frescura que estalla en el paladar cuando degustamos un rico plato de ostras, percebes o langosta, hay que evitar vinos fuertes, sobre todo tintos con mucho cuerpo que enmascaren el sabor del producto, le quiten protagonismo.

Sin embargo, no cualquier blanco marida con cualquiermarisco-cadaespecietienepersonalidad propia, diferente textura, proporción de grasa y sal-. Además, no solo los blancos permiten potenciar el sabor de estas exquisiteces del mar.

Un buen tinto joven o un refrescante rosado puede traernos gratas sorpresas. El maridaje nos permite entonces jugar con diferentes opciones según el producto y la preparación, solo hay que saber combinar tres elementos fundamentales: sabor, acidez y frescura.

Siempezamosporloscrustáceoscocidosysinsalsa, como las langostas, bogavantes, gambas o cigalas, elaboraciones puras y sencillas que conservan su esencia marina, lo mejor es decantarnos por vinos frescos, ácidos, muy minerales. Dicho de otro modo, los mejor es irnos hacia un clásico blanco como el Verdejo.

Wine and seafood are excellent companions at the table, but learning to pair them correctly can be a real challenge. Finding the balance between taste, freshness and acidity is essential to enjoy these unfailing delicacies.

To enhance the taste of the sea, that unmistakeable freshness that explodes on the palate when we savour a delicious plate of oysters, barnacles or prawn, it is necessary to avoid strong wines, especially reds that are full-bodied which mask the taste of the product and take away its starring role.

However, not any white wine pairs with any seafood -each species has its own character, different texture, proportion of fat and salt-. Also, not only white wines make it possible to enhance

the flavour of these delicacies from the sea. A good young red wine or a refreshing rosé can bring pleasant surprises. The pairing then enables us to play with different options according to the product and the preparation, it is only necessary to know how to combine three essential elements: taste, acidity and freshness.

Ifwe beginwith cooked crustaceanswithout sauce, such as lobster, prawns and langoustine, pure and simple recipes that maintain theirmarine essence, the best thing is to opt for fresh, acidic wines that are very mineral. In other words, the best thing is to go for a classic white such as Verdejo.’

Una buena elección es, sin duda, el Marqués de RiscalVerdejo RiscalVerdejo, uno de los máximos exponentes de losvinos blancos de la D.O. Rueda. Elaborado con uva Verdejo, autóctona de esta región, posee agradables aromas de verbena y frutas tropicales, generosos sabores y sensación en boca fresca y vivaz. En conjunto se muestra como un vino fresco y equilibrado.

Otra posibilidad es el vino Finca Montico de Marqués de Finca Montico de Riscal, un vino blanco verdejo sobre lías, 100% de producción ecológica. Este vino tiene un estilo de corte moderno que ofrece complejidad varietal y una vinosidad con cuerpo y finura. En boca es graso, fresco, muy untuoso y con un final largo y redondo y una buena acidez.

Los Verdejos, como decimos, con su sabor fresco, aromático, con un punto cítrico, son ideales para realzar la pureza del crustáceo. También del molusco, en el caso por ejemplo de mejillones, berberechos o almejas. Eso sí, si queremos añadir a nuestro producto algún tipo de salsa podemos aventurarnos a probar otras combinaciones.

En ese sentido, podemos optaren primerlugarporacompañar el marisco con algún tipo de salsa ligera elaborada con nata o mantequilla. Es el caso de la salsa meunière o la también francesa salsa Beurre monté (mantequilla montada) o las recetas al gratén como las vieiras rellenas o gratinadas. El mejor caldo para servir en este caso sería un vino blanco pero de variedad distinta, una uva Chardonay o Sauvignon blanc serían una magnífica elección.

A good choice is, undoubtedly, the Marqués de Riscal Verdejo Marqués de Riscal Verdejo, one of the leading exponents of white wines of the D.O. Rueda. Made with the Verdejo grape, local to this region, it has pleasant aromas of verbena and tropical fruits, generous flavours and a fresh and lasting sensation on the palate. Overall, it is a fresh and balanced wine.

Another possibility is the Finca Montico wine by Marqués de Riscal Riscal, a white verdejo wine aged on lees, with 100% organic production. This wine has a modern style that offers varietal complexity and wine with body and subtlety. On the palate, it is oily, fresh, very unctuous and with a long and full-bodied finish with a good acidity.

Verdejo wines, as we said, with their fresh, aromatic taste, with a citric touch, are ideal for enhancing the purity of the crustacean. And also, molluscs, in the case for example of mussels, cockles or clams. Having said that, if we want to add any kind of sauce to our product we can dare to try other combinations.

In that regard, we can opt firstly to accompany the seafood with some kind of light sauce made with cream or butter. This is the case with the meunière sauce or the also French sauce Beurre monté or gratin recipes such as stuffed or gratin scallops. The best wine to serve in this case would be a white wine but of a different variety, a Chardonay or Sauvignon blanc grape would be a magnificent choice.

Jugando con ese factor, podremos contrastar sabores más potentes con vinos como el Arienzo de Marqués de Riscal Arienzo de Riscal. Un crianza que destaca por su versatilidad. Con la esencia más pura de un Rioja y los más altos estándares de calidad proporciona un sabor fresco

Aparte del tino no podemos olvidarnos del rosado. En estos casos, una opción ganadora cien por cien. Para Fran Silvestre Arquitectos, el trabajo que hacen es “el enfoque de cada proyecto del estudio surge de un doble compromiso: la voluntad de dar una respuesta técnica a un contexto concreto (programa de necesidades, presupuesto, normativa, entorno…) y el deseo de buscar la belleza a través de la obra construida, nos gusta llamarlo 'La Belleza Eficaz'. Este proceso persigue la satisfacción, entendida en su sentido más completo, de todos los que participan activamente en su desarrollo”. Es el concepto de no comprar una casa sino vivir en una obra de arte.

Fran Silvestre is a renowned architect who has created projects nationally and internationally. His projects are aimed at the purity of form while respecting the structure that the environment provides and creating a union between both. A finales del año pasado comenzó la colaboración entre el estudio de Fran Silvestre Arquitectos y DUS de manera muy intensa y productiva. Desde el estudio de arquitectos, se encargan de la parte creativa de los proyectos y desde DUS, de la difusión y recorrido de cada uno de ellos; en una relación en la que ambos han estado de acuerdo y en perfecta armonía. Junto a DUS tienen un proyecto en fase de obra en Sotoalto (Altos de Valderrama), además de otros cuatro que están en fase de diseño y puesta en marcha.

Sotogrande no es un lugar nuevo para este arquitecto, ya ha proyectado varios edificios de carácter residencial hasta el momento. El primero fue en el año 2016 con la Casa de los Siete Jardines. Actualmente, cuentan con un proyecto en La Reserva de Sotogrande, frente al campo de golf, llamado Casa en

Sotogrande, que se encuentra en las últimas fases de ejecución.

La cantidad de trabajos de Fran Silvestre es increíble, pero como él dice “cada proyecto es igual de importante que los demás y siempre he apostado por valorar cada uno como si fuese el primero, el último y el único, centrando todos el esfuerzos e ilusión en los proyectos que se encuentran en vías de desarrollo e incorporando innovaciones con respecto a los ya construidos”. Dentro de los más reconocidos, pueden destacarse: la Casa en el Acantilado, la Casa Balint o la Casa Hofmann; y uno de los últimos y más espectaculares del estudio al norte de Egipto, La Esfinge. Uno de los más recientes proyectos, que ha impresionado por su complejidad, es el diseño de la casa que se inspira en el icónico torii japonés, creando una fusión cautivadora de la tradición

y la estética contemporánea. La casa se compone de dos elementos distintos: una base sólida elaborada con mármol verde y una estructura de dosel delgada y elegante. La base, que recuerda a los cimientos, simboliza la fuerza y la estabilidad, mientras que el delicado dosel encarna la belleza etérea. Juntos, forman un equilibrio armonioso entre tradición y modernidad, ofreciendo un espacio devida serenoyrefinado donde la luz y la sombra bailan con gracia.

David Cohn, reconocido crítico de arquitectura estadounidense, se refirió altrabajodeFranSilvestredeestaforma: “Su arte, a pesar de su abstracción, trata más del problema en cuestión, y de cómo crear un entorno para la vida cotidiana que nos eleve fuera de lo común, hacia un compromiso sensual más completo y despierto con nuestro entorno”.

At the end of last year, the collaboration between the studio of Fran Silvestre Arquitectos and DUS began in a very intense and productive way. The architecture studio is responsible for the creative side of the projects and DUS takes care of the dissemination and promotion of each of them; in a relationship in which both have been in agreement and perfect harmony. Alongside DUS they have a project at the construction stage in Sotoalto (Altos de Valderrama), as well as four others that are at the design and launch stage. Sotogrande is not a new place for this architect, he has already designed several residential buildings thus far. The first was in 2016 with the Casa de los Siete Jardines. At present, they have a project in La Reserva de Sotogrande, opposite the golf course, named Casa en Sotogrande, which is the final stages of implementation.

The number of projects by Fran Silvestre is incredible, but as he says “each project is equally important as theothersandIhavealwayscommitted to valuing each one as if it were the first, the last, and the only one, focusing all my efforts and hopes on the projects being developed and incorporating innovations in relation to those already built”. Themostrenownedinclude:Casa en el Acantilado, Casa Balint and Casa Hofmann; and one of the last and most spectacular by the studio in northern Egypt, La Esfinge (The Sphinx).

One of the most recent projects, which has impressed for its complexity, is the design of the home inspired by the iconic Japanese torii, creating a captivating blend of tradition and the contemporary aesthetic. The home is formedbytwodifferentelements:asolid base created from green marble and a thin and elegant canopy structure. The base, which recalls foundations,

symbolises strength and stability, while the delicate canopy embodies ethereal beauty. Together, they form a harmonious balance between tradition and modernity, offering a peaceful and refined living space in which light and shadow dance gracefully.

David Cohn, the renowned American art critic, referred to the work of Fran Silvestre in the follow way: “His art, despite its abstraction, is more about the problem in question, and how to create an environment for daily life that takes us out of the ordinary, towards a more sensual commitment and alert to our environment.”

Su historia de aventuras en busca de El Dorado acaba adquiriendo tintes de pesadilla en un entorno selvático asfixiante acentuado por la locura de su protagonista. Herzog volvió a visitar la jungla en Fitzcarraldo (1982) y la excelente Rescate al amanecer (2006), con Christian Bale como protagonista.

The legendary Real Club Valderrama became the venue of the Volvo Masters, then, the finishing touch of the season and most acclaimed tournament of the European Circuit, between 1988 and 2008; as one of the most outstanding and eagerly awaited dates in international golf. Valderrama became its house, its home and the faithful witness of some of the great golfing careers of the end of the last millennium.

El norirlandés Ronan Rafferty fue el ganador en 1989 de Faldo por sólo un golpe de ventaja aunque muy cerca, en tercera posición llegó a acariciar el torneo Chema Olazábal, líder tras la primera jornada.

Mike Harwood (1990) y Roger Davis (1991) fueron los siguientes vencedores antes del dominio escocés por dos años consecutivos: Sandy Lule (1992) y Colin Montgomerie (1993) que brindaría una de las páginas más bonitas del golf en Valderrama al compartir victoria con el alemán Bernhard Langer, empatados a golpes por la falta de luz al final de la jornada en 2022. El propio Langer sería el ganador en 1994 y el también alemán, Alex Cejka, lo sería un año después.

The Englishman Nick Faldo, a real legend, was the winner of the first edition in 1988, which with a spectacular final round of 68 shots allowed him to snatch the title, with a two-shot lead, from the much-remembered Severiano Ballesteros. The Northern Irish player Ronan Rafferty was the winner in 1989 by a single shot lead over Faldo, although very close in third place, and even to touching the trophy, was Chema Olazábal, leader after the first day.

Mike Harwood (1990) y Roger Davis (1991) were the following winners before Scottish dominance fortwo consecutive years: Sandy Lyle (1992) and Colin Montgomerie (1993) who would offer one of the most beautiful pages in golf at Valderrama by sharing victory with the German Bernhard Langer, tied on shots due to the lack of light at the end of the day in 2022. Langer himself would be the winner in 1994 and the fellow German, Alex Cejka, would be a year later.

Al cambio de siglo, los siguientes ganadores fueron: Pierre Fulke (2000), Padraig Harrigton (2001). Regresa el torneo a Valderrama con el triunfo de Langer y Montgomerie (2022), Fredik Jacobson (2003), Ian Poulter (2004), Paul McGinley (2005), Jeev Milkha Singh (2006), el reconocido Justin Rose (2007) y finalmente, en el último año del Volvo Masters, fue el danés Soren Kjeldsen, el último ganador de este torneo, bajo esa denominación.

En aquellos años Valderrama se hizo un nombre en el mundo del golf, por la espectacularidad de su campo, la excelencia en todos los cánones y lo apasionado de su afición y comunidad unida al golf. Una historia que continuó después con el Andalucía Masters y que hoy toma el relevo con LIV Golf. Decir golf es decir Valderrama, Sotogrande y algunos de los momentos más importantes de este deporte a nivel internacional.

International winners

Mark McNulty lifted the trophy in 1996, followed by Lee Westwood twelve months later and Darren Clarke, was his successor in 1998; the latter two based in Jerez. Before the change of millennium, at last, a Spaniard, none other than “el pisha” was able to take victory [M. A. Jiménez].

At the turn of the century, the following winners were: Pierre Fulke (2000), Padraig Harrigton (2001). In those years, Valderrama earned a name in the world of golf, due to the spectacular nature of its course, excellence in all areas and the passion of its fans and community linked to golf. A story that continued later with the Andalucía Masters and that is now being taken over with LIV Golf. Saying golf means Valderrama, Sotogrande and some of the most important moments in this sport internationally.
