Gavira y Herrera logran el bronce en Estados Unidos ✑ M. G.
Adrián Gavira y Pablo Herrera se colgaron la medalla de bronce en la prueba del World Tour Voley Playa celebrada en la localidad norteamericana de Huntington Beach. El castellonense y el sanroqueño derrotaron en la final por el bronce a los letones Samoilovs y Smedins, pasa subir por primera vez al podio de un torneo esta temporada. Los representantes españoles no pudieron luchar por el oro tras una intensa semifinal
ante los brasileños Evandro y André. Los nacionales fueron por detrás en el marcador durante todo el partido y pese a una sensacional reacción del segundo set, salvando tres bolas de partido para tener su oportunidad que no podrían aprovechar (21-19/24-22) para evitar el pase brasileño a la final. En la final de consolación, Pablo Herrera y Adrián Gavira volverían a verse las caras con los letones Aleksandrs Samoilovs y
Janis Smedins, con quienes ya se midieron en quinta ronda del torneo, con victoria de los bálticos. En el choque por el bronce, la pareja española no acusó el cansancio de una semifinal que había terminado apenas una hora antes y supo mostrarse más acertado en los compases finales de cada set, para conseguir la mínima ventaja (20-22/17-21) que les llevó a tomarse la revancha de la derrota anterior y con-
quistar la medalla de bronce en el torneo. Adrián Gavira y Pablo Herrera ofrecieron sus valoraciones a la retransmisión oficial del torneo nada más acabar el choque. El sanroqueño señaló que “siempre
hemos creído en la victoria. La clave estuvo en la cabeza, peleamos por la medalla, esa fue la clave”. El castellonense reconocía que “el torneo de Adrián ha sido increíble. Hay ha estado la clave de nuestro torneo y de este resultado”.

The Castellon and San Roque players won the bronze medal final against the Latvians Samoilovs and Smedins, to make it onto the podium of a tournament for the first time this season. The Spanish representatives were unable to battle for the gold following an intense
semi-final against the Brazilians Evandro and André. The national players were behind on the scoreboard throughout the entire game and despite a sensational reaction in the second set, saving three match balls to earn an opportunity they could not make the most of (21-19/24-22) to stop the Brazilians reaching the final. In the final for third-place, Pablo Herrera and Adrián Gavira once again faced the Latvians, Alek-
sandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins, who they already faced in the fifth round of the tournament,
with victory going to the Baltic duo. In the clash for bronze, the Spanish duo did not show the tiredness from a semi-final that had only finished a few hours earlier and they could not have performed better in the closing stages of each set, in order to attain a slight margin (20-22/1721) that led them to revenge for the previous defeat and take the bronze medal at the tournament. rrera offered their opinions to the official broadcaster of the tournament as soon as the game was over. The San Roque player stated that “we always believed in victory. The key was about mental attitude, we fought for the medal, that was the key”. The Castellon player acknowledged that “Adrián has had an incredible tournament. Today he was essential to our tournament and to getting this result”.
