Agosto arranca, este año, con la triste pérdida de D. Walter Rodríguez Figueroa, uno de los personajes que conforman la historia de Sotogrande, entre otras cosas, por haber sido presidente del Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, desde 1989 hasta 1997. Descanse en paz y, desde estas líneas, reciba su familia nuestro más sentido pésame.
Noticias tristes que dejan un mal sabor de boca a los que hemos preparado este Periódico, lleno de todas esas cosas buenas que trae el verano a Sotogrande. Un verano, que ha llegado como hacía años que no lo hacía. Con nuevos y prometedores proyectos, que revitalizarán la economía de la zona y que son signo
inequívoco de esa esperada recuperación que parece llegar con cuentagotas. De entre todos, me gustaría brindar por la nueva andadura del Casino Admiral San Roque. Con una inversión cercana a los 20 millones de euros y la creación de más de cien puestos de trabajo, les deseamos todos los éxitos del mundo. Los que han llegado a Sotogrande en agosto se han encontrado, además, con la sorpresa de poder disfrutar de la playa situada delante de los ‘Lacasitos’. Un profundo trabajo de recuperación de la arena, que ha devuelto a residentes y visitantes una de las zonas de baño más emblemáticas de la urbanización. ¡Bien hecho! Otra de las notas positivas del verano en la urbanización es el considerable aumento de propuestas lúdicas para pequeños y mayores (algo muy demandado desde hace años y de lo que nos alegramos profundamente). Cuatro días de mercadillo; las divertidas atracciones de Jugarnía; una impresionante Ribera del Marlin, con su Mercado de Levante copado de food trucks, restaurantes, bares de tapas... Un amplio abanico de buenas
y novedosas ideas con las que disfrutar de Sotogrande que, estamos seguros, reportarán prosperidad a nuestra querida urbanización. Un Sotogrande que late con más fuerza que nunca y del que nos habla el CEO de la corporación, Marc Topiol, en una interesante y extensa entrevista que les invito a leer en el interior de este número. Una edición en la que publicamos, entre otras muchas cosas, nuestro segundo especial de polo, una sección que retomamos cada verano para no perder detalle de todo cuanto acontece en torno al Torneo Internacional. Me despido ya, no sin antes invitarles al tradicional Abierto del Golf de El Periódico de Sotogrande, el sábado, 6 de agosto, en Almenara. Son ya 15 las velas que soplará este evento en el que tan bien lo pasamos cada verano. Que tengan una buena quincena; nos leemos en un par de semanas... August has arrived! And how! August this year began with the sad loss of Mr Walter Rodriguez Figueroa, one of the great characters that make up the history of Sotogrande, amongst other things for having been president of the Sotogrande Royal Golf Club from 1989 to 1997. May he rest in peace, and we would like to take this opportunity to offer his family our deepest condolences. Sad news that left a bitter taste for the team that has prepared this newspaper full of all those good things that summer brings to Sotogrande. A summer that has arrived in a way we haven’t seen for many years, with promising new projects that will revitalize the economy of the area. An unequivocal sign of that much-awaited recovery that had seemed to be arriving in dribs and drabs until now. Above all, I would like to offer a toast to the Casino Admiral San Roque as it embarks on its new venture. With close to 20 million euros of investment and the creation of more than a hundred jobs, we
wish you all the success in the world. Those who have come to Sotogrande in August have also been surprised find that they can enjoy the beach in front of ‘Los Lacasitos’. A thorough replenishment of sand means that one of the most emblematic bathing areas in the complex has been restored to residents and visitors. A job well done! More positive news for the summer in the complex is the considerable increase in recreational ideas for young and old. This has been much requested for many years, so we are delighted to be able to announce four market days, the fun attractions of Jugarnía, and the impressive Ribera del Marlin with its Levante Market boasting food trucks, restaurants, tapas bars and much more. A wide range of excellent and innovative ideas for enjoying Sotogrande, which we are convinced will bring prosperity to our much-loved complex. view with the corporation’s CEO, Marc Topiol, which I invite you to read in this edition. An edition in which, among many other things, we publish our second polo special: a section we return to each summer in order to keep up to date with everything that’s happening in and around the International Tournament. I shall sign off now, but not before inviting you to the traditional Periódico de Sotogrande Open Golf Tournament on Saturday 6 August in Almenara. It’s now been 15 years that we’ve been holding this event where we all enjoy ourselves every summer! Have a good fortnight!
