CLUB HISTORY

Compton Walking Football Club

Compton Walking Football Club was ’born’ during Covid times when a group of ex Wessex League/ Southern League/ Sunday Morning League players, who played together back in the 90’s got together on Social Media.

Once Lockdown was eased the met up in person, at a local rec, mainly to reminisce about old times after a kickabout and a beer!

In September 2020 first proper MUGA session was booked and that’s when things

became a bit more serious. Additional people were attracted (mainly by the beer) to the sessions and a Team was formed (Initially known as Boorley Green) There then followed a move and amalgamation with Compton Football Club, a club with many years standing (75 years) and whom a few of those assembled had turned out for at some point in their footballing history.

A sponsor was found to provide a kit and the ‘Walkies’ entered their first Hants FA tournament.

The rest is History as they say! The Team entered the WFA National Cup and proceeded to reach Finals Day at the first time of asking, quite an achievement for a club with only 14 registered Walking Footballers. A couple of International trips ensued, to compete on the European stage, although the main time did seem to be spent in the bar on these trips.

FIND US ONLINE

The original, core members, remain involved and the main focus of competition remains the monthly Hampshire FA Stoneham. Where decent success has been achieved, and a fairly decent haul of trophies have been obtained. But at the heart of the Team and the club is the social element, for all that are involved. Some great times have been had in the 5 years, some great football, great laughs.

Interesting tales and stories (some true) and the regular Thursday evening sessions are still going strong. The Walking Football Club is still small in membership we like to think that this is because we focus on quality not quantity, but truth is it could be the ‘banter’ that keeps the membership low.

Although now including three international players in the ranks, we must be doing something right!

MANAGER’S WORD

Compton Walking Football Club

R

Andy Price, Bryan Jones, Simon Butler

Managing the Compton Walking Football Club Team is an impossible task for one person

So it is very much who is feeling brave enough to step up to the plate, at each tournament, and throw the Sheepskin coat on!

Or more realistically its basically who is injured enough not to be able to play is the one thrown the fedora. Very much self-managing in all honestly, as none of these lads listen to a word anyone on the touchline says and always know better!

R

A Team full of Defenders, some now with ideas above their station and thinking they can play further forward, the only true Midfielder playing in goal (and not doing too bad a job).

Seriously though the lads all know how to play the game (they should do by their age) and things get sorted by those on the pitch Never a cross word between the players helps no end! Great bunch of lads, on and off the pitch, which is what Walking Football is all about.

Although winning still comes a close second!

CAPTAIN’S WORD

Compton Walking Football Club

R

What can I say about this Team, that is suitable for printing, pretty much nothing. But I need to make something up to fill the void!

Any of this squad could wear the captains armband, but as I am the one who supplies the armband I get first shout.

Truthfully though I am the one who continually encourages and organises this team of reprobates so its only right that I take the plaudits and pick up the Silverware (being Club Chairman also helps).

R

Walking Football has allowed us all to continue our footballing journeys when we all know we should have hung up the boots years ago. The last 5 years with these lads has proved that ‘football is football whatever the speed’.

We have lads who have now represented Wales & England on the International stage, Journeyman fullbacks now banging in goals for fun from CF, Midfield dynamos now plying their trade in goal, a CB now doing more work than he has ever done on a football field (mainly for aforementioned CF, whilst also providing accommodation!) A ragtag team of footballers upsetting clubs much bigger in size. Got to love being part of Compton FC Walking Football.

CLUB HISTORY

Salisbury Walking Football Club

Salisbury Walking Football celebrates its tenth year in 2025. It all began at Five Rivers Leisure Centre in Salisbury in 2015 when a group of men and ladies were introduced to the sport by Wiltshire Council. From there it developed in to a regular two-hour indoor session per week. As the numbers and enthusiasm grew, we moved to two sessions per week. In 2019, a number of members wanted to start playing outdoors so two sessions per week were organised on an astroturf pitch. In 2023 an evening session was added to attract those who work during the day.

So, we now run five sessions each week which attract players aged from 50 to 85. We have teams entered in both the Hampshire and Wiltshire Walking Football leagues and we regularly enter teams in club tournaments.

MANAGER’S WORD

Salisbury Walking Football Club

We are delighted to be in the first Hampshire FA Walking Football Cup Final.

We have been stalwarts of the Hampshire League for the past four seasons and have won it on a number of occasions.

We are a friendly club with over 140 members and we run five sessions per week. The emphasis at most of them is on recreational football and building friendships.

R

We also run a more competitive session and training sessions for those who want to participate in tournaments and this is paying off with growing success at over 50s, 60s, 65s and 70s level.

It is great to be playing football competitively at our age. It really helps to make us feel young again.

Good luck to both teams today.

CAPTAIN’S WORD

Salisbury Walking Football Club

Rory Heatley Team Captain

As team captain I would like to introduce you to the Salisbury squad for today's game.

Rob Wellby plays for England over 60s He is a top-class keeper and only let in one goal in seven matches leading up to the Final

David Campbell-Smith plays with calmness and confidence, has a faultless first touch and a killer pass. He reads the game as well as anyone and can play defence or midfield.

Snowy (Paul) Taylor is a cultured midfielder with a strong left foot and a powerful shot He scored 4 goals in the games leading to the Final

R R

Steve Farmer is a never say die midfield engine. He can be relied upon to work hard in attack and defence, and will chip in with his fair share of goals.

Richard Ramsay is an attacking midfielder, bringing a touch of trickery to our forward line while having a keen eye for goal.

Rory Heatley is skilful and sharp and can finish with his strong left foot

Mark Potts represents England over 60s as a high energy midfielder.

Graham Newland is a versatile player who can defend as well as be dangerous in attack.

Dean McMillan is a regular goal scorer who occupies defenders

Roger Batchelor plays for Wiltshire over 60s. He is strong and holds the ball up well often setting it for team mates to shoot.

CLUB HISTORY

Hambledon FC Vets

Hambledon Vets joined the Farnham and District league back in 2015/16 season after some successful seasons as a friendly side. They entered into Division 3 and had a solid first season finishing 4th. They moved up to Division 2 a few seasons after. Finishing runners up to Ropley in the 2018/19 season. They lasted one season in the top division before relegation. But bounced straight back being crowned champions of Divison two. They have stayed in the top division ever since. Finishing 3rd the last two seasons.

This season has been a big success. Making it to two cup semi finals. While also making two finals, Mike Parker Trophy and also todays Hampshire County Cup final.

The team is led by Simon Rickards, the charismatic diminutive left back ably assisted by Stu "assistant to the manager" Parker.

Both long time servants to the club. Hambledon FC is a FA accredited club which has been running since 1906. And currently has 5 sides. 3 Saturday sides and two Vets sides.

MANAGER’S WORD

Hambledon FC Vets

A solid season for Hambledon Vets, who will have had 28 league and cup matches by the end of May, to include 5 games against Row since the clocks went forward. We know each other well!

Hambledon started the season with a disappointing defeat at Ropley in September, having led at half time, and followed up with league wins against Aldermaston and Overton.

R

The cups then took over, with decent runs in all four cups entered, to include Hampshire cup games against Fleet, Salamba and then at Headley in the driving rain in January in the semi final, to set up today’s final against Row.

Hopefully we can avenge last month’s defeat on penalties to the same opposition in the Mike Parker cup, and then finish the season strongly with two league games against Binfield.

CAPTAIN’S WORD

Hambledon FC Vets

I think it would be fair to say, it’s been our strongest season since Hambledon vets was formed.

Two finals and two semi finals for a small village club with restricted squad depth has shown how well we’ve performed.

The gaffer made a couple of signings this season who have been brilliant for us, and the fact everyone has done their utmost to be available and been on top of their game when called upon means we have been able to be really competitive throughout the year.

In saying that we would all love to finish it off with the Hampshire Cup. I think it would be really befitting for the players, the club and certainly none more so than the gaffer himself.

CLUB HISTORY

Row United

Row United play their home games at the Memorial Playing Fields the home of Hartley Wintney FC. Row United carried on the traditions of veterans’ football being played at Hartley Wintney FC. The Club name was changed from Hartley Sunday to Row United and with this change come an era of success. Season 2012-2013 saw Row United finish second bottom of division 1. They did, however, win the challenge cup defeating Overton 2 nil in the final. They also finished runners up in the Runwick Cup. Season 2013-2014 saw the club operate with only 1 side. Playing in Division 2 Row United won the league and cup double. Season 2014-2015 and back in Division1 Row United finished 3rd 2015-2016 saw a lowly 2nd from bottom finish in the league. 20162017 Row United 3rd in a 5 team Division 1 2017-2018 The Row 1st XI won the challenge cup defeating Headley as well as defeating Hambledon in the Runwick Cup final. The Reserves side finished 2nd in Division 2. 2018-2019 saw the Division 1 title secured with the Reserves finishing 3rd in Division 2.

The Challenge cup was secured with a 6-2 victory over Ashridge Park 2019-2020 saw the season curtailed for the league due to the pandemic. The 2020-21 initially saw Overton United awarded the title on goal difference over ROW United with both finishing on 31 points along with Ropley. Administrative issues resulted in an appeal on the application of the rules the which was overseen by Hants FA and which correctly resulted in ROW United being awarded the League title. 2021-2022 Row won the Division 1 title ahead of Overton. Reserves struggled as their age caught up with them. 2022-2023: Finished Runners up to Woking Vets. Hampshire Vets Sunday Cup winners 2023-2024: Following an amalgamation with The Snow Goose the team finished 2nd in the division. 2024-2025: Currently top of the table and in the Rob Purdey Veterans Sunday Cup and league finals.

MANAGER’S WORD The Meon

Hello again, back for our third cup final of the season and our second trip to Winklebury in as many years.

We love it here. Wouldn’t mind a repeat performance from last years visit here against the same opposition, would ease the blood pressure.

Stevie Oshea & Harry Bedford Team Managers R

Got the chance of a cup treble with the potential of relegation so it’s been some year for the lads but if you’ve squeezed into a Meon shirt this season you deserve your flowers.

It’s been a season of highs and lows but luckily for us the highs are now and from us personally its been quality managing you boys.

Full focus on this game today and I’m sure there will be some great football on display as well as some howlers. This is why we love Sunday league.

CLUB HISTORY

Each Christchurch SSC

East Christchurch SSC was founded in 1980 as Plessey Christchurch. Then Siemens Christchurch, British Aerospace and BAE Systems.

The clubs first season was in Div. 10 of the Bournemouth Sunday League but as time and seasons went on the club rose to take its place in the Premier Division.

Along the way, the Lawrence Brivati Cup was won, as well as the Sunday League Division title in 2005. In 2009, as East Christchurch SSC, the club completed the double of Robbins Cup and Premier League as well as finishing as runners-up in the Hampshire Sunday Senior Cup.

In subsequent seasons, East Christchurch SSC were a frequent contender for honours until 2018 when the Sunday League title was regained and ‘The Satsumas were back in the winners spotlight’.

The following season saw the first appearance, and a quarter final place, in the Sunday FA Cup along with the Bournemouth Sunday Senior Cup.

In 2022 the club reached the final of the John Ward Sunday Senior Cup (Hampshire Cup) where we ran out 4-0 winners as well as finishing runners up in the league following two seasons plagued by the pandemic. 2023 saw victory in the Robbins Cup and the league title won without losing a game. The following season, 2024 saw us win the Senior Cup but loose The John Ward Hampshire Cup final to The Meon.

The 2024/25 season produced a second place league finish and an appearance in both the Robbins Cup and the John Ward Sunday Senior Cup finals.

CAPTAIN’S WORD

Each Christchurch SSC

R

We are absolutely delighted to be here again. We know as well as anyone that we didn’t do ourselves justice in this competition last season, so we are buzzing to have an opportunity to put that right this afternoon.

These are the games that everyone wants to be involved in. We’re hopeful of a big crowd and a good performance against a talented and strong Meon side.

RIt’s an honour to lead this great group of lads out every week and we’ve improved week on week this season, so fingers crossed we can use the momentum to come away from this match as winners of the John Ward Sunday Senior Cup.
