CLUB HISTORY

Emsworth Town

Nicknamed “The Oystermen”

after the town’s famous association with oyster fishery, Emsworth have had many football teams over time, with some dating back as far as the 19th century.

After the town went 3 years without a men’s football club,

Emsworth Town FC was founded in 2022. The hunger for football in the town showed as 100 players tried out for the club that summer. We became members of City of Portsmouth Sunday Football League, entering two teams (First Team and Reserve Team).

In our debut season, The Oystermen became champions of Hampshire, winning the Hampshire FA County Cup Sunday Vase. Beating Rushmoor Community in the final in a penalty shootout, after finishing 4-4 after 90 minutes. Emsworth played every round away, winning 4 rounds via penalty shootout. This was the first time any Emsworth based team had ever won a County FA Cup. Emsworth also became City of Portsmouth Sunday Football League London Cup winners by beating Coach & Horses Albion 2-0 in the final in front of a big 700 spectator crowd.

The following season Emsworth Town played in the top flight after being double promoted. Emsworth Town Reserve Team had a very successful double trophy winning season, becoming Portsmouth Divisional FA Cup Sunday Plate winners by beating Creech Wood 3-0 in the final. The Reserves also became City of Portsmouth Sunday Football League Division 7 champions.

This season, welcomed a Saturday team. Becoming members of Mid Solent Football League. While remaining members of City of Portsmouth Sunday Football League. Meaning Emsworth Town now have Saturday and Sunday teams. The Oystermen was crowned Mid Solent Football League champions, by going all season undefeated and winning the Father Purcell Cup, beating Portchester Rovers 3-1 in the final. Emsworth Town can complete the treble by winning the County FA Cup. This could also mean we’d had been champions of both the Saturday and Sunday Vase.

MANAGER’S WORD Emsworth Town

R

It’s an honour to make this season’s County Cup final I have a lot of love for this competition, we won the Sunday version back in 2023 and it’s been a little dream of mine to complete the set by winning the Saturday one also It’s not been an easy route to the final, having to play an Isle of Wight team every round then a good Crofton Saints side in the semi final, but we’ve treated this tournament very seriously and that attitude has landed us in the final. We’re on for the treble, we finished the Mid Solent League season unbeaten and won the Father Purcell Cup. This is the biggest part of the treble, if we can win this trophy it would top a perfect season.

I’d like to thank Mark, the players, my family and the sponsors for all they’ve given me this season. Also big shout out to Taylor for his efforts this season.

R

What a season it’s been, we have not lost all season and the lads are bang up for today, really looking forward to the final

CAPTAIN’S WORD

Emsworth Town

Firstly I’d like to say what a season for the boys, staff and supporters.

Been dominant all season, from start too finish, this is the big one. I’ve been here from the beginning of this club and we’ve had previous success in winning the Hampshire Cup so a few of the lads including the gaffer all know what it takes and what a big occasion this is. I’m honoured to captain my home town and lead us out on the day.

R

Id like to thank Hammo and Jim for all their hard work in getting us to where we are, also a massive thank you to Taylor our social media and club photographer for all his hard work, capturing special moments all season long.
