CLUB HISTORY Kingsclere

The virtues of Kingsclere Football Club have continued since the turn of the 20th Century. With some of the greatest local success in the area, Kingsclere have an abundant history of trophies and titles. The foundations lay in a postGreat War era racing village, predominantly working class, with layers of sporting greatness. In the 50-00s, names such as Jimmy Goslin, Dougie Smith, Stan Carr, John Wellman, Dave Joliffe all managed sides in the village. Success in local sides that partnered Kingsclere include Stan Carr’s Headley with the most (5) back-to-back promotions in the Guiness Book of Records, Jimmy Golsin’s Ecchinswell side to win the Hants Prem League, and Dougie Smith’s unbelievable

Treble winning side in the late 80s (the last time we won the County Cup). All have been involved from and within the village making a stoic move to make Kingsclere a club to be feared.

Fast forward to 2010, when Kevin Bennett, Adie Read and Nigel Randall took over the two Saturday teams, with notable success in the Basingstoke League.

Michael ‘Bic’ Simpkin and Lee Hamilton followed suit with some of the greatest success seen with the clubs winning trebles, league titles and Saturday County Cups too. In 2022, Asa Oldring sourced a gathering at the Rec in Kingsclere after a few shandies at Christmas, and from there the team was re-ignited into life.

In 2022-23 season, we finished a close 2nd in the Newbury District League, with Seth Fowler and Jack Morgan tied top goal scorers. We competed against the league winners in the Lambourn Cup narrowly missing out 3-2 on the day.

This season has been a righteous whirlwind, with big name signing like Shawn Foster and Dec Shuttleworth, along with new boys Ben Wickens and Liam Hill, we competed hard to finish a close 2nd, only losing 2 league games to the leaders, where the title went down to a game on Mother’s Day (don’t ask me!).

We narrowly missed out on two cup runs, losing to Diamond and NWX in two semi-finals.

On the road, we moved past against Embley Park, Merville Athletic, Sporting Compass FC, and CT Sports on the way to Winklebury.

So here we are, ready to give everything in our power to unify the village and club as County Champions once again.

Up The Clere!

MANAGER’S WORD

Pain is temporary, glory is forever – and the lads will know pain pre-season if they don’t know glory today.

These lads are the best of the best blokes in the area. They’re also fantastically talented footballers, when they can keep off the Moretti at the George. Freddie our Captain holds everyone to ransom, which makes up for my deficiencies as a happy drunk (Sunday mornings). I couldn’t be prouder of their service to the village and club since kicked back to life the last season.

R

From back-to-front, Freddie-to-the-back-line, to our energy and ability in midfield, with quality and finesse up top, young-to-less young and talented to scruple-less, we believe!

They’ve got themselves here and even the ones that missed out are part of the Brotherhood so it’s down to them today – dog eat dog, as I love eating hotdogs.

So, as Mad Max said: “2 teams enter, one team leaves Welcome to the Thunderdome @Hants FA.” or something like that… haven’t watched it since I was 8.

CAPTAIN’S WORD Kingsclere

We are blessed to have many great players here at Kingsclere, but most importantly to us is our togetherness and family ethos. This can always be seen at our games with players friends and family always coming to watch and support, and most importantly in a pub on a Sunday afternoon after a game.

It’s always a pleasure for me to captain the lads, they typically make my life very easy on the pitch and it’s a credit to each and every one of them to be here today.

For me it’s great to see that all of our players have a link to Kingsclere as a place whether that’s friends, family or living there themselves which helps create a very close group dynamic.

I hope we put on a good display and are crowned champions later this afternoon.

Club History

AFC Tukkers were formed in 2018. The core group are still very much involved now, and we have added some good additions since then. We have been very succesful over the years and are looking forward to The Hampshire Cup final to complete the set.

Thomas Appleton, Steve Turner, Shane Reidy Team Managers

There have been some tough moments this season and some very good moments this season.

We are expecting a very tough game on Sunday and will have to be at our best to win the trophy against a very good Kingsclere team.

Hopefully we can add the final trophy to our collection

Very proud to captain the Tukkers this season. The boys have worked hard and dug deep at times this year to make it to the final, playing in torrential rain, having bare 11 and travelling all over Hampshire.

We look to end the season on a high this Sunday.

MANAGER’S WORD

Saturn Royale

I have been Secretary and Manager of this Club for 41 years and I’m very proud of the job I have done over the years keeping this club going season after Season.

Saturn is in my blood and will keep the club going as long as I can.

I played in goal when I took over the reign of Secretary and played over 650 games before hanging up my boots in 2015.

Since then, I stand on the touchline every game and wish I was still playing. Getting to this Final is a real achievement for myself and my team and we will do are very best to bring home the Trophy.

CAPTAIN’S WORD

Saturn Royale

Its a huge honour to lead Saturn into the Hampshire Cup Final as team Captain today.

This team has a proud and very long history. I ran a club for 7 years and I know firsthand how difficult it is.

Dave has been the heartbeat for Saturn for an incredible 41 years but has only picked up silverware on four occasions in that time, but his dedication, belief, and passion for this club is second to none.

So, to be in with a chance of adding another trophy is all that the current squad want to do. Finals are for special occasions, and we’re give everything to make the most of this opportunity.

Win or lose, we will play with pride, togetherness and a real sense of what it means to wear the Saturn Royale shirt together as teammates.

Thankyou to all our supporters, families and volunteers who have come and made this evening a special occasion for us.

CLUB HISTORY AC Copnor

Our Club was formed by a group of friends in 2007. We had a few seasons working our way up the CPSFL league winning several promotions/relegations over the years including going unbeaten when winning division 5 in our 2nd season.

As a Club we have gradually grown and now have a reserve team which also competes in the CPSFL League.

In the last 4 years we have been finalists in 6 Cup Competitions winning the PDFA Trophy and the Challenge Cup.

Over the last few seasons we have lost some very good friends who all played a part in what we have become and if we win the trophy today we would like to dedicate our win to them.

Dave Kemp, a former player who gave everything for the team and became a club Legend.

Terry Harwood of the CPSFL, who helped us on many occasions and became a club friend.

MANAGER’S WORD

AC Copnor

My name is William Bevan I am the first team gaffer at AC Copnor

I joined in the middle of the 21/22 season where I took over running the reserves in the meon valley league

I took over the first team in the 22/23 season from our chairman Mr Steve Hartill and we have had a few roller coaster seasons but still made cup finals every year

Now with this set of lads in my mind this is one of the best and strongest squads I have seen since I joined.

We changed our whole back line including our keeper and we sat down and had a squad meeting for our goals this season.

1st was to win the league and 2nd was to get to the Hampshire Cup final which we have done.

Hopefully by the time the final comes around we would have won the league as well, but it’s not about me, it’s about my players who I am so proud of and who are such a joy to work with. Well done boys, you deserve this - now go win it for us all.

Copnorforlife!

CAPTAIN’S WORD

AC Copnor

R

My name is Charlie Kingston and i am the current team captain of AC Copnor.

I am absolutely proud and privileged to have been asked to lead this fantastic group of lads when our previous Captain had to step away due to family commitments.

R

As it stands, we have the possibility of doing the League and Cup double which will be a fantastic achievement.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed leading us this season and going forward hoping that we can win much more with this group of players. Onwards and Upwards
