R
anager of Gosport Borough U18s, I’m incredibly of what this team has achieved both on and off tch. Our players have shown exceptional cter, work ethic, and a genuine passion for the , which has translated into outstanding rmances and consistent results throughout the ns.
ocus goes beyond just winning matches it’s developing well-rounded players who are red for the next step, whether that’s moving into r football, joining professional academies, or continuing their journey through education and sport. We’ve seen real progression, with several of our lads earning opportunities at higher levels, which is a direct reflection of the structured training, support, and belief we instil in them.
RWe’ve created a culture here that encourages personal responsibility, teamwork, and constant improvement. Every session is designed to challenge the players technically, tactically, and mentally. I’m also grateful for the backing of our coaching staff, the parents, and the wider club their support is crucial to our success.
The club finished as runners-up in their first season and went on to win the league in 1904–05. They were runners-up again in 1905–06, before winning a hattrick of successive titles in 1907–08, 1908–09 and 1909–10, remaining unbeaten throughout the third of the title-winning seasons. The season also saw them win the Surrey Junior Cup for a second time, beating Sutton United 2–0 in the final.
After World War II the club was renamed Camberley, and were Surrey Senior League runnersup in 1946–47, before winning the league's Charity Cup in 1951–52 with a 4–3 win over Chertsey Town. The club were league runners-up again in 1961–62, and adopted their current name on 2 June 1967 after merging with former Parthenon League club Camberley Wanderers.
In 1998–99 the club reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time. Drawn against away to Third Division Brentford, they lost 5–0. At the end of the 2005–06 season, they moved into the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League through the FA’s re-structuring of non-league football. They were runners-up in the division in 2013–14 and 2014–15. In the 2018-19 season we won the Aldershot & District Cup final, running out 4-1 winners against Knaphill. At the start of the 2021-22 season the FA restructured the leagues once again moving Camberley into the newly formed Combined Counties Premier South Division, where current manager Luke Turkington took hold of the managerial reins achieving a 12th, 10th, 15th placed finish in his first three seasons in charge.
Fin is the clubs all-time leading U18 appearance maker having featured 111 times over three years and today he is appearing in his 3 successive Hampshire U18 Cup Final, such unrivalled experience will be sorely missed when he graduates
Dom has grown metaphorically and literally this season, establishing himself in our senior set up, ending the season as our first team keeper Mr reliable between the sticks, hopefully he’s a spectator today, but we know if called upon he will stand up to the test R
Mr Dependable. Having made 42 appearances this year of the U18’s James has become a main stay in the defence and is capable of being deployed in any position along the back line He never lets anyone down even when stepping up and playing for the 1 team. st
Stan is our brains behind the operation, the thinker He reads the game perfectly and is the vice-captain of the team. Stan is an experienced defender having featured heavily for our 1 team across the last two years He will be sorely missed when he graduates at the end of the season. st R
Being a proud ‘northerner’ Cam would like me to describe him as a ‘No nonsense, hard as nails’ type character He wouldn’t want me to tell you, that he’s actually a kind and caring individual who in football terms is more Rio Ferdinand than Nemanja Vidic R
Sean has been around Camberley for a long time and has been of real value when he has featured this year, raiding up and down the line providing a level of experience and game management that many don’t have at this age R
Hayden is captain of the team and personifies the competitiveness of the squad; everything he does he does to win, he knows no other way. Hayden has a wand of a right foot and is the second biggest supplier of goals contributing 14 assists this season R
Most improved is not an accolade the youth of today appreciate, but Erim has had a wonderful season truly stepping up and nailing down his spot as one of the first on the team sheet featuring heavily for our 1 team as the season ended st
R
Isaac is appearing in his 3 Successive Hampshire U18 Cup Final He is the life a soul of the dressing room with an eye for goal and will be sorely missed when he graduates at the end of the season Today marks his 106 appearance for our U18’s rd
Ollie will be making his 43 appearance in today’s game which for a 16-year-old is remarkable Ollie is composed on the ball and strong in the air, watch out from his shooting from distance as he’s a scorer of great goals rd
Who said; ‘Old Fashioned Centre Forwards are a dying breed’ Ben’s work rate and ability to lead the line whilst still scoring 30 goals, so far this season, makes him an integral part of the team and is why he’s stepped up to feature for our 1 team st
Jude has had his most productive season in front of goal and in the 45 appearances he has made this season he’s averages virtually 1 goal or assist for every appearance This season is his last with us and he will be hugely missed once he graduates.
R
What a future this guy has Max is a goal machine, playing as a Year 11, Max has rivalled his team mates, some two years older and kept track with their goal scoring charts Unfortunately a nasty injury will prevent Max from featuring today, but he will be back soon ready for more
Kris is our warrior If you want to beat us you have to go through Kris With one year to go of his U18 career he’s made 68 appearances to date and is hugely experienced in big games, chipping in with the odd unexpected goal!
Zahir is a box-to-box midfielder, who is extremely comfortable on the ball and has been involved in 21 goals this season Zahir is a strong leader and well regarded amongst the squad and staff as he has a knack for scoring some vitally important goals this season.
Last year I told you to remember the name, well I hope you did! He continues to be a beacon of excellence within the team and at the time of writing a total of 47 goal contributions this season. One to watch, having made 26 starts for our 1 team this season st
Returning to the club this season, Masimba has been a breath of fresh air, I am sure Masimba would say the highlight was scoring for the 1 team away to Jersey Bulls, but with 21 goal involvements at U18 level there have been plenty of big moments. st
Harvey returned to Krooner Park this season to finish off his U18 career and has been a constant thorn in the side of the opposition defence Harvey is tenacious and a hard worker, often the creator of his own goals, reaping the benefit of his own hard work
Craig Green Team Manager
At the start of the season we set a target; ‘to be playing in May’ and to be here once again making fourth consecutive Hampshire Cup Final Appearance represents a remarkable achievement for our Youth set up and shows how far we have grown as a club in recent years
Our season so far has been historic; this side has become only the second team in our club’s history to win the Isthmian Youth League and have furthered their success by reaching four other cup finals. This is just the headline success, the real success is beneath the bonnet; from the players in the match day squad today, there is a combined total of 112 competitive appearances for our first team across this season. Regardless of trophy success, this statistic is truly remarkable and hopefully the experiences gained will help guide the players in what will be a tough evening against a strong Gosport side.
Whilst we are still a relatively young side, today, I can expect that ten of the sixteen man squad will have featured in last year’s final and will know the pain of defeat, hopefully on this occasion, they can put that right and experience the emotion of winning a county cup final as we look to regain our trophy.
