Founded in 1919 as the Royal Engineers (Ordnance Survey Office) FC, AFC Stoneham has grown into a community football powerhouse, now entering the 2024/25 season with over 130 teams and 1,600 players. Originally competing in the Southampton Junior League, the club underwent several transformations, including a merger with the Post Office Team and later adopting the name Ordnance Survey. After years of modest success, the club began to
build momentum in the late 20th century, claiming league titles in 1982/83 and 1992/93.
In 1996/97, they won the Premier Division of the Southampton Senior League and re-entered the county league system. By 1998, a youth policy was launched, which rapidly bore fruit. Despite losing their Civil Service Ground in 1999, the club continued progressing, eventually settling at Stoneham Park in 2002.
The turn of the millennium brought
steady advancement, including promotion to the Hampshire League Division One and then joining the Wessex League. In 2006, the club rebranded as Stoneham, later becoming AFC Stoneham in 2007, winning the Hampshire Premier League that same season.
The 2010s saw rapid expansion, on and off the pitch. The club merged with Granley Rovers FC, boosting youth development, and enjoyed success in regional competitions including back-to-back Southampton Senior Cups (2012/13). They gained promotion to the Wessex League in 2015 and began competing in national competitions like the FA Vase and FA Cup, including a memorable run in 2018/19 where they defeated higher-tier teams and reached the 2nd qualifying round in 2023/24.
AFC Stoneham moved into a £10m new home in 2020, marking a new era. Despite COVID-19 disrupting seasons, the club has achieved three consecutive top-five finishes in the Wessex Premier League, finishing 2nd in 2023/24 and narrowly missing promotion after a playoff final loss to Shaftesbury.
With their adult and youth sections thriving, a history of resilience, and recent standout performances including a dramatic 5-4 FA Cup comeback win over Basingstoke Town the club heads into the 2024/25 season with momentum, ambition, and a proud legacy.

We are delighted to reach the Hampshire Senior Cup Final for the first time in our history, it is a prestigious competition and one we always aim to do well in. Our route to the final wasn’t the easiest, with victories over step 4 Hartley Wintney & step 3 Winchester City the standout results.
Cup competitions have been good for us this season with excellent runs across the board which has concluded in us earning a spot in three finals which will give the players a brilliant opportunity to showcase their talents.
It is a great achievement from us and AFC Portchester to reach this final and make it an all Wessex League tie, it just goes to show once again how strong this division is. We obviously know lots about each other so I am sure it will be a competitive and entertaining game.
I would just like to end by thanking the players and staff for their efforts in making this evening possible, it will be a proud moment for me to lead this team out in a cup final and thank you to our supporters for cheering us on all season. Enjoy the game.
Thank you for joining us on this great occasion.
At the start of the season we had multiple objectives, and one of those, was to improve on our progress in cup competitions and we are delighted to make it to the final of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup. When you look at the teams who originally entered and the two that are left now it is a great advert for Wessex League football.
It has been another enjoyable season for us collectively We have added further quality and depth on both the management team and playing squad which has benefited us across the season To be competing in multiple competitions at this stage of the season is a privilege and one everyone at the club is relishing as we enter these last few weeks
We know tonight will be a tough battle against a strong Portchester side who have had an excellent year so far, but we as a group are confident we can finish the job and achieve one our season's goals.
Thank you to all fans, friends and family who have come down to support us tonight - we hope you have an enjoyable evening Up The Purps!
With a history dating back to 1971, the AFC Portchester of today truly came into existence when the club merged with another Portchester side, Castle Royals, in the 2002-03 season.
The first official season competing in Saturday football, was in 1988, when as Wicor Mill FC, a successful Sunday side, competed in Portsmouth Junior Football under the management of Dave Long and Paul Summers.
Since the merger with Castle Royals, AFC Portchester has become one of Hampshire’s biggest clubs, currently boasting a total of 40 teams across youth and adults’ football, and with additional groups like walking football and tiny-tots sessions, the club caters for those wanting to play football from the age of just two up to 80 and beyond.
Another significant milestone for the club came in June 2011 when it
was awarded The Queens's Award for Voluntary Service (MBE) for Groups.
3 stands seating over 250 people in addition to a popular hospitality suite
Under the drive and leadership of Chairman Paul Kelly, the club have also made great strides in the facilities.
The On-site group stadium now has four bars and function rooms,
In Recent seasons on the playing side, the club have been competing near the top of the Wessex Premier League, and achieved the highest on pitch on honour to date by winning the Hampshire Senior Cup in 2024.

Good evening.
I pen these notes ahead of the conclusion to our league season, but already we have made 3 cup finals and will finish as champions or runners-up in the Velocity Wessex league. It has been a tremendous effort up to now from all of our players, and indeed our committee, volunteers and supporters. I thank you all and nights like tonight make it all worthwhile.
To reach a consecutive Hampshire Senior Cup final is a great achievement and unprecedented from a Wessex League side
We have had two close games this season with AFC Stoneham, and I don’t imagine tonight will be any different, it will be 2 very good sides and be a different approach from both to those that have been played in the two league games
We have pushed each other all season to compete at the top of the league I congratulate them on getting to this final along with the other two they compete in.
Enjoy the game!
Good evening, and welcome all to tonight’s final.
It is a tremendous achievement for our club to reach finals of this competition in consecutive years, I’m sure it will be a great game, and a fantastic advert for the quality of the Wessex League.
I write these notes ahead of the conclusion to our league season, but I must congratulate AFC Stoneham and their superb season.
Also, on behalf of all my team mates, I’d like to thank our supporters, who have given us magnificent support all season, I’m sure you will be in great voice tonight!
