“At Gulf Coast Teens in Motion, we believe in the power of community and the importance of nurturing the next generation.”.

Dear Readers,

April is here, and with it comes a vibrant celebration of growth, resilience, and bold new beginnings.

This month’s issue of Gulf Coast Teens in Motion is packed with the powerful stories of young people who are not just dreaming big they’re doing the work to bring those dreams to life. From

Jeremiah Harper Williams redefining what it means to shine with purpose as he sets his sights on becoming an architect, to Kelan Rich stepping into his collegiate basketball career with heart and hustle, these teens are leading the way with confidence and character.

We’re also celebrating students like DeNiya Thomas, Nevaeh Strickland, and Me’Liayh Evans each one a remarkable example of what happens when passion meets purpose. Their stories are reminders that excellence has many faces, and determination knows no limits.

As we spotlight our community’s rising stars, we’re also holding space for honest reflection especially for those navigating unique paths like teen girls being raised by strong single moms. In this issue, I wrote a special letter just for them, because I know what that journey feels like. And I want you to know: your story matters too.

Gulf Coast Teens in Motion is more than a magazine it’s a movement. Every feature, every face, every page is a reminder that the youth of our community are not waiting for a seat at the table — they’re building the table. So as you flip through this issue, let it remind you to keep going, keep growing, and most of all keep believing.

Blessings,

SHINING BRIGHT: JEREMIAH’S JOURNEY OF BRILLIANCE AND BLUEPRINT DREAMS

Celebrating World Autism Awareness Day through the eyes of a future architect

When Jeremiah Harper Williams was just two years old, his parents heard the words that would shift the lens through which they viewed his future: he had been diagnosed with autism. At an age when most toddlers were learning to string together simple sentences or sing along to their favorite cartoon theme songs, Jeremiah was beginning a journey filled with unique challenges and unexpected brilliance.

“I didn’t think I was going to be ‘normal,’” Jeremiah says now, reflecting with a level of maturity beyond his years. “But that’s OK — I am normal. And I’m going to be an architect.”

With that powerful declaration, Jeremiah rewrites the narrative not just for himself, but for so many other young people navigating life on the spectrum. His words carry weight because they come from lived experience from moments where he had to find his voice in a world that doesn’t always listen, and from the quiet strength of a young person determined to build something greater than limitations.

Jeremiah’s fascination with architecture began early. What started with building blocks and sketchbooks has evolved into intricate designs and a deep passion for structure and creativity While some may see autism as a limitation, Jeremiah sees it as part of what fuels his brilliance his ability to visualize, to focus, and to express himself in ways uniquely his own.

In honor of World Autism Awareness Day, Gulf Coast Teens in Motion is proud to spotlight Jeremiah not because of his diagnosis, but because of his vision, his determination, and the brilliance he brings to the world. His story reminds us that being on the autism spectrum doesn’t mean being less than. It means being wired differently often in the most extraordinary ways.

Jeremiah is proof that dreams aren’t confined by labels, and success isn’t defined by how well someone fits into a box — but by how courageously they break free from it. He represents a growing wave of teens who are living life on their terms, using their voices, and following their passions unapologetically and proudly. This is just the beginning for Jeremiah Harper Williams. His blueprint isn’t just for buildings it’s for building hope.

And as our official Reflections of Me spotlight, Jeremiah embodies everything this feature stands for: courage, creativity, and the confidence to shine exactly as you are. Stay tuned his light is only beginning to shine.

Coaches have praised his dedication, teachers have highlighted his discipline, and fans know exactly why he became one of the faces of Pascagoula’s basketball success story.

EMBRACINGYOURSTRENGTH:

April is here, and with it, the reminder that we’re in the midst of a season of growth and new beginnings For many of us, this month represents fresh starts, blooming flowers, and moments of change But for some of us especially those of you with single moms this time of year can be a little more complex. I want to take this moment to speak directly to you, to remind you just how powerful, resilient, and capable you truly are. Being a teen girl with a single mom comes with its own set of challenges. There may be times when you feel like you have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders Maybe you’ve had to step into roles that are bigger than your years, helping out at home, supporting your mom emotionally, or just being the pillar of strength in your family. But what I want you to know is this: You are not alone, and you are stronger than you realize.

LEANINTOYOURSUPPORTSYSTEM TAKECAREOFYOURSELF,TOO

One thing I want to remind you of is that it’s OK to ask for help. Whether it’s talking to your mom, reaching out to a trusted friend, or even turning to a mentor or counselor, you don’t have to carry everything by yourself Leaning into your support system is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Your mom, no matter how tough things get, is always there to support you She’s likely juggling a lot to make sure you’re taken care of, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need you, too. Take time to connect with her, talk about your challenges, and share your victories. Even in the hardest moments, know that you have each other, and that bond is powerful.

Growing up in a single-parent household means that life is sometimes unpredictable, and you may have to navigate a lot on your own. Whether it’s dealing with school stress, family dynamics, or figuring out your place in the world, it can feel overwhelming. However, there’s something incredibly empowering about facing life’s challenges head-on You are learning to be independent, resourceful, and compassionate in ways that many people will never understand Every time you rise above a challenge, every time you support your mom or pick up the pieces when things get tough, you're building a strength that will serve you for the rest of your life.

Self-care is a topic that often gets overlooked, especially when you’re busy trying to be everything for everyone But let me tell you this: you can’t pour from an empty cup It’s important to take time for yourself whether it’s reading a book, going for a walk, or simply enjoying a quiet moment to reflect on your day Selfcare isn’t selfish; it’s necessary. It’s about replenishing your energy so that you can continue being the incredible young woman you are.

You deserve time to relax, to breathe, and to enjoy being a teen. Don't feel guilty for taking care of yourself In fact, the better you take care of your own mental and emotional well-being, the better you'll be able to show up for your mom, your friends, and everyone who relies on you.

CELEBRATEYOURSTRENGTHS

It’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling like you need to be perfect whether it’s at school, with friends, or even in your relationship with your mom. But here’s the truth: You are enough, just as you are

You don’t need to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. You are doing the best you can, and that’s more than enough There is no “perfect” way to navigate life as a teen girl in a single-parent household, and that’s OK. You are already strong, courageous, and full of potential

Finally, take a moment to celebrate yourself You are doing an amazing job. The work you’re doing behind the scenes whether it’s at home, at school, or with your friends deserves to be acknowledged. Your resilience, your heart, and your spirit are what make you truly special.

So, as we enter this season of renewal, I want you to know that I see you. You are seen, you are heard, and you are loved. This journey isn’t always easy, but it’s yours Keep going, keep growing, and remember that you are a force to be reckoned with.

With love and admiration, Elyssa Marie
