HOLIDAY MENTAL HEALTH TIPS FOR TEENS

LANAYA CROFF

"Your future is a blank canvas paint it with the colors you choose."

"You don’t have to wait for permission to be who you want to be. Create the life you imagine."

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."

— Eleanor Roosevelt

"Write your own story and never let anyone else hold the pen."

"Your dreams are valid, and your path is yours alone. Walk it with confidence and purpose."

As I began my senior year at Gulfport High, I knew I wanted this year to be different. I was determined to take control of my future and use this final year as a launchpad for everything I wanted to achieve. Rather than just going through the motions, I set my sights on making meaningful changes that would help me grow into a stronger, more confident person.

For me, this started with a commitment to take my academics seriously. I decided to set high standards for myself, challenging myself to push past limits and embrace learning with fresh enthusiasm. Getting more involved in the Senior Rep Program was fearful in the beginning but, I wanted to connect with my peers, contribute to my community, and take full advantage of every opportunity. Being active and engaged in different activities has allowed me to develop new skills, broaden my perspectives, and build new friendships.

It’s easy to feel pressured to keep up with everyone else, especially with social media constantly showing us what others are doing But it’s important to remember that life isn’t a race you don’t have to rush to meet anyone else’s timeline.

YOURFUTURE YOUDEFINE

Your path is unique, and it’s okay to go at your own pace. In fact, some of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned have come from slowing down and not being afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes are a natural part of growth, and they often teach us more than success does. I want others to know that mistakes don’t define you; they refine you. Embrace them, learn from them, and let them guide you toward better choices in the future.

My advice to anyone who’s feeling overwhelmed or uncertain about their future is this: start building healthy habits now. Whether it’s setting aside time to study, committing to regular social habits, or making space for self-care, small positive actions add up over time Healthy habits lay the foundation for a balanced, fulfilling life They give you strength and resilience when things get hard and allow you to tackle each day with confidence

Defining your future is about more than just achieving a certain status or reaching a particular goal; it’s about becoming the best version of yourself This year, I’m learning that my future is a story I get to write, and I’m choosing to write it with intention, joy, and a belief in my potential To every senior out there, know that you have the power to shape your own path Don’t let society or anyone else rush you Take things one day at a time, embrace your journey, and remember: your future is yours to define, and it’s never too late to become the person you want to be

Failure is an important part of your growth and development, don't be afraid to FAIL!

Senior Rep Meeting Recap: “Finding Your Woosah” with Ms. Shanavier Clark

The recent Senior Rep meeting was an inspiring and empowering session with guest speaker Ms. Shanavier Clark, who led a discussion on "Finding Your Woosah." This event brought together senior reps from both Creative Images and Brian Pearse Photography, providing a space for young people to focus on self-care, stress management, and maintaining balance in their lives.

Ms. Clark emphasized the importance of finding peace amidst the challenges that come with being a senior, from academic responsibilities to personal pressures. She shared practical tips and exercises for managing stress, such as mindfulness practices, deep breathing techniques, and setting healthy boundaries. Her message was clear: prioritizing mental wellbeing is essential for achieving long-term success and happiness.

The session allowed the senior reps to reflect on their own self-care practices, engage in open discussions, and ask questions about handling stress during this pivotal time in their lives. By the end of the meeting, students left with a renewed sense of calm, a toolkit for stress management, and a commitment to find their own "woosah" moments.

A big thank you to Ms. Shanavier Clark for sharing her wisdom and guidance. The Senior Rep program continues to be dedicated to providing resources and support for these young individuals as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives.

Managing School Managing School and Social Life and Social Life During the Holidays During the Holidays

The holiday season can bring a mix of excitement and added responsibilities, from school projects to social events. To keep stress at bay and make the most of this time, it helps to approach tasks and activities thoughtfully. Start by prioritizing what needs to be done for school, such as projects, assignments, or exam prep. Listing out each task and breaking down the most urgent ones into manageable steps can prevent the last-minute rush and help you stay on track.

Creating a schedule is a useful way to balance studying, holiday events, and extracurricular activities. By blocking out time for each commitment in a planner or calendar, you can get a clearer sense of your availability. This approach also makes it easier to say "yes" or "no" to invitations based on what you realistically have time for.

During the holidays, it’s easy to feel pressured to attend every gathering, but it’s okay to say no when you need to focus on schoolwork or simply recharge. Prioritize events that hold the most meaning for you, and avoid overcommitting. Remember, it’s perfectly fine to choose quality time over quantity.

While winter break offers a chance to unwind, using it wisely can set you up for a smoother start when school resumes. Getting a head start on assignments or studying for upcoming exams during the break can alleviate some of the stress that often comes with the new semester. Doing a bit of work here and there leaves more room for relaxation later.

Finally, don’t let a packed schedule keep you from prioritizing self-care. Make time to exercise, eat well, and get enough sleep to stay energized. Taking care of yourself not only reduces stress but also improves your focus, mood, and performance in both school and social activities. This balanced approach will help you enjoy the holiday season to the fullest while staying on top of your responsibilities.
