As high school comes to an end, Jada reflects on the lessons she’s learned, the memories she’s made, and the exciting future that awaits her. With a determined mindset and a plan for success, she is ready to take on the next chapter of her life.
Advice for Underclassmen
“Always put school first no matter what. Your grades and everything you do will follow you,” Jada emphasizes. Understanding the importance of academics early on can make a significant difference in shaping future opportunities.
Looking Back: A Lesson Learned
If given the chance to redo freshman year, Jada would focus on improving her grades. “I didn’t realize how important they were at the time. I thought passing was just about moving on to the next grade, but now I see how much it truly matters.”
A Plan for Success
After graduation, Jada’s path leads to the military, followed by college for dental studies. The decision was a strategic one. “I knew I wanted to make money as soon as possible after graduating and not have to pay for college,” she explains. The military provides a structured environment while also offering financial support for her education
Setting Goals for the Future
With adulthood right around the corner, Jada has set clear personal goals.
“I want to start working toward my first big purchase whether it’s a car, if I don’t already have one, or an . ”
Another major goal is overcoming procrastination
“It’s been my biggest issue throughout school I’ve made progress, but by the time I graduate, I want to eliminate it completely ”
Excitement for Senior Traditions
One of the most anticipated moments of senior year? Prom!
“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” Jada says, eager to experience this unforgettable high school tradition.
Celebrating Graduation
Once the cap and gown are put away, Jada has one big plan: a mini trip with friends.
“I just want us to celebrate together,” she says, looking forward to making lasting memories before life takes them on different paths. High school is a time of challenges, lessons, and growth For McKenzie, the journey has been about persistence pushing forward despite obstacles and staying focused on the bigger picture.
Lessons from High School
“The biggest lesson high school has taught me is to be persistent. There will always be people looking down on you or trying to distract you, but you have to work hard despite the obstacles.”
That mindset has helped shape McKenzie’s high school experience, preparing her for what’s next.
Advice for Underclassmen
Senior year is filled with important deadlines—from college applications to scholarships—and staying organized is key.
“I would tell underclassmen to keep up with deadlines. There are so many things happening at once, and it’s easy to fall behind. Getting a planner or setting reminders is a great way to stay on top of everything.”
The Next Chapter: LSU and Kinesiology
After graduation, McKenzie is heading to Louisiana State University (LSU) to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology—the first step toward her future in the medical field.
While excited, she admits to feeling nervous about the transition. “I’m scared to be living away from home and having to make new friends, but I’m excited for the journey.”
A Strong Support System
No success story is complete without the people who help along the way. For McKenzie, her mom has been her biggest supporter.
“She has helped me become a better person in all situations. Without her, I wouldn’t have accomplished half of what I’ve been able to do.”
Inspiring the Next Generation
Beyond personal success, McKenzie hopes to leave a lasting impact.
“I want younger kids in our communities to know that they can do anything they set their mind to. I want to encourage them to accomplish their dreams no matter what.”
Senior Traditions & Future Goals
One event she can’t wait for? Donut Decision Day, where seniors wear their college gear and celebrate their next steps with friends.
Looking five years ahead, McKenzie has a clear goal:
“I want to have my bachelor’s degree and be heading into medical school.”
With determination, resilience, and a strong support system, McKenzie is ready for the future. From high school lessons to big dreams, her journey is just beginning!

AFutureNeurosurgeonintheMaking
Kai is not just a dreamer; she is a determined and passionate young woman with a clear vision for her future. She describes herself as charismatic, outgoing, authentic, and persistent qualities that will serve her well on her journey to the medical field Her love for science and her desire to change lives through neurosurgery are not just ambitions; they are the driving forces behind her every move
In her Reflections of Me portrait, Kai’s future is not just imagined it is brought to life. The image serves as a mirror into the world she is striving to enter, capturing the essence of a future doctor who is ready to make an impact. Through creative photography, her aspirations take on a visual form, reminding her and the world that dreams are not distant; they are tangible and within reach.
ThePowerofaVision
When Kai looks at herself, she sees “a uniquely flawed reflection of who I want to be.” But rather than seeing flaws as setbacks, she embraces them as stepping stones to growth She understands that becoming a neurosurgeon requires resilience, dedication, and an unyielding belief in oneself Her portrait is a testament to this mindset an artistic representation of her journey toward excellence.
This project is more than a showcase; it is a powerful reminder that visualizing one’s future is the first step toward achieving it. By allowing young people to see their dreams materialized in creative and artistic ways, Reflections of Me ignites a passion that pushes them forward.
BeyondMedicine:AHeartforChange
While Kai’s primary focus is on becoming a neurosurgeon, she also carries a deepseated desire to make the world a kinder place When asked what she would change, she said, “I would like everyone to just be nice and accept people and their differences” Her dream extends beyond the operating room she envisions a world where compassion, understanding, and unity are the norm.
WhyKaiChoseReflectionsofMe
Kai Davis is the epitome of what the Reflections of Me Youth Project stands for. She is not just looking at her future she is stepping into it with confidence, knowing that every reflection she sees is one step closer to becoming reality. THEPOWEROFSELF-LOVEANDGRATITUDE:
To all the amazing teen girls out there, I want to share something that’s close to my heart I understand that many of you, like me, have experienced the challenges of growing up without a consistent father figure Maybe your dad is not in the picture, or you only see him occasionally, and that absence can feel heavy You might find yourself asking questions or feeling incomplete at times. And that’s okay. You are allowed to feel all the emotions that come with it anger, sadness, confusion but I’m here to remind you that you are enough. You are worthy of love, and the journey to discovering that starts within yourself
I know firsthand how easy it is to feel like something is missing when the person who should be there isn’t. But I want you to understand this: the love and respect you give yourself is the foundation for everything else in your life. You don’t need anyone else to define your worth Whether or not your father is around doesn’t determine how amazing you are. You are strong, you are capable, and you are full of potential Self-love is something that must come from within. It means learning to appreciate all the unique qualities that make you, you. Whether you are excelling in school, in sports, or in your community, give yourself credit for all the hard work and effort you put into everything you do. Remember that your happiness and success start with how you see yourself Believe in your greatness.
YOURMORETHANWHAT’SMISSING
Growing up in a single-parent home can be tough. It might make you feel like something is missing or that you have to take on responsibilities that you weren’t prepared for But I want you to know that the absence of one person doesn’t diminish the love that surrounds you You are loved by many people your mom, your family, your friends, and even strangers who admire your strength and perseverance
It’s easy to get lost in what’s missing, but it’s so important to focus on what you do have. You have the opportunity to create the life you want You can build strong relationships, find your purpose, and love who you are without needing anyone to fill that empty space You can be the person you need to be, no matter your circumstances.
AFINALTHOUGHT
As a mother, a teacher, and a community member, I want to tell you that your journey matters. Your life is important, and your story is one of strength So, love yourself fiercely Respect yourself always And when you’re feeling down or disconnected, remember that you are whole. You are loved. And don’t forget to reach out and give your mom the same love and respect she has always shown you.
With every step you take, be proud of yourself You are more than enough, and I believe in your power to thrive just as I believe in the power of the love you have for yourself and for your mom
As a single mother myself, I can tell you that there’s a unique bond between a daughter and her mother My own mother, like many of your mothers, did everything she could to provide for me, to love me, and to help me become the woman I am today While it’s natural to long for a father’s presence, don’t forget to acknowledge the sacrifice, strength, and love of your mother She’s been there for you, through the good and the bad, often working harder than anyone realizes Sometimes, as daughters, we may take our mothers for granted, especially when we’re struggling with our own emotions about absent fathers. But let me remind you that your mother is your number one supporter She is your rock, your cheerleader, and your safe place. Show her the same love and respect that you give to yourself Thank her for all the sacrifices she’s made, for the sleepless nights, and for the unspoken love that keeps her going Acknowledge her effort and strength because she is just as important in your life as anyone else.
