Milano Unica for confirmation, as some sort of acid test to check

whether the September date works, the whole textile world to analyze the markets’ situation: these are some of the

issues worth focusing on over the three months elapsing between the release of Showcase at the Pitti Filati fair and the Parisian event, with Filo in Milan closing the trade show season.

The usual swirl of trade shows which is repeated year after year offering, however, always new and interesting food for thought, between emerging sustainability areas, such as Filo, and the relaunching of projects.

One of these is Denim Première Vision, after the recent experience in Milan, the first in Italy following the French Denim show’s new travelling version: a decision which Denim PV Manager Fabio Adami Dalla Val tells us all about.

Three months of Showcase, accompanied by the opinions of insiders, some of whom holding for the first time leading positions within the fashion system: our usual in-depth look at a fast-changing world with always new key figures. And in evolution, sustainability is in every respect, now unavoidable when it comes to fashion. The IED-Detox binomial was presented in Florence.

This issue’s “regional” focus is on Veneto, one of the regions on which our Gruppo Editoriale relies on, with other publications as well.

This time, the tour of trade show cities (Florence, Milan, London and Paris) is devoted to Japanese restaurants, the perfect end to a long busy day at the show.

Milano Unica per la conferma, Première Vision per la prova del nove sulla data di settembre, tutto il mondo del tessile per testare la situazione dei mercati: questi alcuni dei temi da seguire in questi tre mesi compresi tra l’uscita di Showcase a Pitti Filati e lo svolgimento del salone parigino, con l’appendice ormai abituale di Filo a Milano.

L’abituale valzer di fiere che si ripete nel tempo offrendo però sempre spunti nuovi di analisi e riflessione, tra aree sostenibilità che nascono, vedi Filo, o progetti che si rilanciano. Uno di questi è Denim Première Vision, reduce dalla recente esperienza milanese, la prima in Italia dopo la svolta ‘itinerante’ della fiera francese del jeans: una scelta raccontata dal responsabile di Denim PV Fabio Adami Dalla Val. Tre mesi di Showcase nei quali saremo accompagnati dai pareri degli addetti ai lavori, alcuni dei quali impegnati per la prima volta in ruoli guida all’interno del sistema moda: il consueto sguardo su un mondo in continua evoluzione e con protagonisti sempre nuovi. E nell'evoluzione rientra a tutti gli effetti la sostenibilità , ormai imprenscindibile se si parla di moda. A Firenze presentato il binomio IED-Detox.

Il focus ‘regionale’ di questo numero è incentrato sul Veneto, una delle regioni sulle quali il nostro Gruppo Editoriale punta molto, anche con altre pubblicazioni.

Il tour delle città (Firenze, Milano, Londra e Parigi) stavolta è dedicato ai ristoranti di cucina giapponese, “rifugi” serali dopo le ore passate in fiera.

Denim Première Vision is a tour of Europe, through the capitals of fashion, a new trade show version different from France’s “classics” . Milan is the last stop (for the time being) of a journey which, over the years, has transformed the trade show from “permanent” (Paris and Barcelona) into “travelling”, with London and Milan involved too. At the wheel of this camper rich in colors, ideas, side events and forums is an Italian manager, Fabio Adami dalla Val, who played the “master of the house” in Milan.

Why did you decide to move the show from one place to another?

The idea of a travelling exhibition is the result of a long research aimed at rethinking the format of Denim PV after twelve years.

It is one of the many ideas we came up with, designed to provide exhibitors and customers with two different points of view of the markets and new stimuli, and allow them to do research by moving to go to the show and also in order not to make the event seem too repetitive and monotonous because of the permanent location. The various stops are Europe’s capital cities of fashion: Paris, Milan, London and, perhaps, Berlin. As the visitors’ interest grows, so does the participation of the exhibitors and more business is done, which is the goal we try to achieve with the trade show. Exhibitors, in turn, have the chance to explore markets where they may not have any agents. England, for instance, is a very lively market but difficult to understand from the outside, as well as Italy, where the culture of denim exists but is not always properly enhanced, with the value chain shrinking every day.

Anyway, we intend to go back to cities where we’ve been before, as we will do in December in London, in order to convey an idea of continuity.

What role does denim play in the fashion market?

I think we all agree that denim associated with workwear is something of the distant past, as well as Garibaldi being the precursor Denim Première Vision è un viaggio in Europa, un tour tra le capitali della moda, un modo di fare salone diverso da quelli più “classici” della società francese. Milano è l’ultima tappa (per ora) di un percorso che negli anni, ha trasformato la fiera da “stanziale” (Parigi e Barcellona) in itinerante, con il coinvolgimento di Londra e Milano. Alla guida di questo camper ricco di colori, idee, iniziative collaterali e dibattiti c’è un manager italiano, Fabio Adami Dalla Val, che a Milano ha fatto anche da “padrone di casa”.

Perché questa scelta di spostare il salone da un luogo all’altro?

L’idea è nata dopo una lunga ricerca fatta per ridisegnare il format di Denim PV dopo dodici anni. Quella della sede che cambia è una delle idee arrivate, anche per dare a espositori e clienti due punti di vista diversi dei mercati, stimoli, consentire loro di fare ricerca muovendosi per andare in fiera ed anche per non rendere l’appuntamento ripetitivo e meno stimolante a causa della sede fissa.

Abbiamo deciso le tappe pensando alle capitali della moda in Europa, che sono Parigi, Milano, Londra e, se vogliamo, Berlino.

Se l’interesse del visitatore cresce aumenta anche il coinvolgimento dell’espositore e si crea il business, che è il fine che vogliamo perseguire con il salone. A sua volta l’espositore ha la possibilità di trovarsi in mercati in cui magari è scoperto e senza rappresentante; l’Inghilterra può esserne un esempio, perché è un mercato vivo ma difficile da conoscere standone fuori, e così anche l’Italia, dove la cultura del denim è nata ma non sempre valorizzata, con la filiera che è andata a ridursi. La nostra intenzione è comunque quella di tornare in città dove siamo già stati, come accadrà a dicembre a Londra, per dare continuità alla proposta.

Che ruolo riveste il jeans nel mercato della moda?

Sfaterei ormai la connotazione di indumento da lavoro visto che risale a moltissimi anni fa e che addirittura Garibaldi è considerato 10 interview

of denim. In the sixties, everyone wore jeans already and then Fiorucci introduced denim to the high-end fashion world by creating tight-fitting, rhinestone-detailed womenswear. Today, every single fashion collection features at least one denim piece, and jeans are a worldwide renowned brand in their own right.

So, jeans are not only for young people anymore?

Absolutely not. There are markets, such as Germany, where jeans are the most popular piece of clothing among people in the 40 to 60 age bracket, or Bangladesh, where jeans are still a status symbol for young people. At present, denim is so easy to sell and so versatile that it cannot identify with one single type of consumer only.

However, despite its many qualities, the production of denim is considered to be harmful to the environment.

Is it true?

Denim is harmful to the environment only if it’s not properly produced, which means not only obeying the law. There are technologies, such as drip irrigation, allowing producers to reduce the use of water, chemicals, coloring agents and soil. If such technologies are used and if the raw material is produced where it has always been produced, denim is not harmful to the environment. As far as we are concerned, we promote the so-called Smart Creation, which gathers twenty companies enjoying great visibility at the show and to which more will be added. But all companies showcasing at Denim Première Vision are committed to sustainability, which is one of the criteria required to exhibit at Première Vision. So, our message is clear: there must be no division between sustainability and fashion anymore and they must go hand in hand. The big brands should be the first to realize it. un precursore del denim. Già nel ’60 era usato da tutti e poi Fiorucci l’ha portato nel mondo della moda di alta fascia creando i capi donna aderenti e con gli strass. Ora non c’è una collezione che non abbia un capo in denim, oggi il jeans è un brand di per sé conosciuto in ogni parte del mondo.

Quindi si può dire che non è più un capo solo per giovani?

Assolutamente. Ci sono mercati, come la Germania, dove il jeans è maggiormente usato della fascia di età 40-60, o come il Bangladesh, dove invece è ancora uno status symbol per i ragazzi. Ma il denim ha una facilità di vendita, talmente tante applicazioni e una tale versatilità che non può essere identificato in modo univoco in un solo target di utilizzatore.

Tra tanti pregi riconosciuti il denim ha però è anche frutto di un processo di produzione ritenuto impattante sull’ambiente. E’ una verità assoluta?

Impatta sull’ambiente il denim fatto male, nel senso di realizzato senza tenere conto dello stato dell’arte dato dai tempi, che non significa solo rispettare le leggi ma fare ancora di più. Ci sono tecnologie, tipo l’irrigazione goccia a goccia, che permettono di limitare l’uso di acqua, chimica, coloranti e terreno; se vengono utilizzate e se si produce la materia prima dove è sempre stata fatta allora il denim non è impattante. Da parte nostra abbiamo il percorso tracciato con Smart Creation, che racchiude venti aziende alle quali abbiamo dato una grande visibilità al salone e alle quali saranno aggiunte altre. Ma tutte le aziende che espongono a Denim Première Vision hanno una produzione attenta alla sostenibilità, che è uno dei criteri per poter esporre alle fiere di Première Vision.

Il messaggio che diamo è quindi che tra sostenibilità e moda non deve esserci più divisione ma devono essere presentate insieme. I brand per primi devono recepirlo. interview 13

Como’s trilogy

La trilogia di Como secondo Andrea Taborelli di Matteo Grazzini Transparency, traceability, sustainability. These are the words, written in capital letters, at the top of the agenda of Andrea Taborelli, President of Confindustria Como’s Gruppo Filiera Tessile and Vice-President of Sistema Moda Italia. The entrepreneur from Como is determined to push these issues forward at the international level, being fully aware of the necessity to draw the attention of Europe’s economic and fashion world on these words which, to him and to the whole Como district, are core values rather than mere economic interests. That is why he asked the Vice-President of Gruppo Filiera Tessile, Marco Taiana, to join him, on behalf of SMI, at the EURATEX table in Brussels devoted to traceability. A joint action involving Como’s textile district, the big brands and Europe.

President Taborelli, for how long have you been interested in sustainability?

For many years, long before the issue became “trendy”. We have just celebrated Confindustria Como’s 100th birthday and, in looking back over its history, we realized how insightful the local entrepreneurs were over fifty years ago, when they designed and built in Como Italy’s first water purification plant, to treat wastewater from the textile industry, and an industrial waterworks which draws water from Lake Como, in order not to dry up drinking water aquifers, and distributes it to companies located even twenty kilometers away in a perfectly integrated circuit. The priority is environmental protection. But it is not enough!

What more can be done?

We are working non-stop to make people aware of two important things: sustainability is not only about environmental protection and sustainability pays.

Let’s start with the former.

Sustainability is also about protecting the consumers’ and workers’ health and respect for human rights. That is why we want to explain everything about the production process and not only about the product through the traceability system. Can a product in recycled polyester, the quintessential green material, be truly described as “sustainable” if it is made at a factory which exploits child labor and does not defend workers’ rights? This is the reason why the European textile chain has so much more value than it seems. But there is still a lot to be done in this respect. Because while the companies of our district are fully aware of it and have embraced traceability practices, the big brands are far from doing so.

Trasparenza, tracciabilità, sostenibilità. Sono le parole scritte in alto, a caratteri maiuscoli, nell’agenda di Andrea Taborelli, Presidente del Gruppo Filiera Tessile di Confindustria Como e Vice Presidente di Sistema Moda Italia. L’imprenditore comasco è molto determinato a giocare questi temi sui tavoli giusti, consapevole della necessità di focalizzare tutta l’attenzione del mondo economico e del fashion europeo su questi driver importanti che per lui, e per l’intero distretto comasco, corrispondono a veri e propri valori. Per questo ha chiesto al suo Vice Presidente del Gruppo Filiera Tessile, Marco Taiana, di sedere anche al tavolo di Euratex dedicato alla tracciabilità a Bruxelles in rappresentanza di SMI. Un’azione congiunta che parte dal distretto tessile comasco per arrivare ai grandi brand. Passando dall’Europa.

Presidente Taborelli, da quando questo interesse per la sostenibilità?

Da molti anni, fin da quando il tema non era di moda. Abbiamo appena festeggiato i 100 anni di Confindustria Como e, ripercorrendone la storia, abbiamo potuto apprezzare la grande sensibilità degli imprenditori di oltre mezzo secolo fa che progettavano e costruivano a Como il primo depuratore d’Italia per le acque reflue delle aziende, in particolare quelle tessili, e un acquedotto industriale che attinge l’acqua dal lago di Como, per non prosciugare le falde di acqua potabile, e la distribuisce ad aziende distanti anche venti chilometri in un circuito integrato perfetto. Tutela dell’ambiente in primis. Ma non basta!

Cosa serve in più?

Stiamo lavorando senza sosta per riuscire a far comprendere due aspetti importanti: la sostenibilità non è solo rispetto per l’ambiente e la sostenibilità paga.

Cominciamo dal primo aspetto.

Sostenibilità è anche rispetto per la salute dei lavoratori e dei consumatori, rispetto dei diritti umani. Per questo vogliamo raccontare il processo e non solo il prodotto attraverso lo strumento della tracciabilità. È davvero sostenibile un prodotto in poliestere riciclato, materiale green per definizione, se viene lavorato in un’azienda che sfrutta il lavoro minorile o non tutela i diritti dei lavoratori? Ed è per questo che all’interno di una filiera tessile europea c’è molto più valore di ciò che appare. Su questo dobbiamo lavorare ancora molto. Perché se le imprese del nostro distretto lo hanno compreso, fatto proprio e promosso, i grandi brand non ancora.

Quindi non è solo un costo per le imprese?

Si tratta di un investimento. È ovvio che il prodotto creato da un’impresa che fa welfare, che non sfrutta il lavoro minorile, che non inquina e che valorizza i propri collaboratori, abbia un costo maggiore. Ma se questo stesso prodotto è in grado di raccontare la sua storia positiva attraverso la tracciabilità, il consumatore, che oggi è

So, it is not only a cost for the businesses?

It is an investment. It goes without saying that a product made by a company committed to welfare, which does not exploit child labor, does not pollute the environment and cares for its workers, involves higher costs. But if today’s increasingly sensitive consumers are made aware of the positive story associated with such a product through traceability, they will turn to ethical products.

How far along is Como’s textile district?

It is state-of-the-art, much more advanced than our customers, whether brands or intermediaries. We have worked to allow Centro Tessile Serico to promote and train companies for the ZDHC certification, that is, to achieve the goal of zero discharge. Before that, we laid down rules, the Seri.co trademark, which the companies must comply with in order to declare that a fabric has specific characteristics. Our system is oriented in this direction.

What are the next steps you intend to take?

Through EURATEX, we are working to bring a proposal for the creation of a transparency system for the textile industry at the European level. We would like all this to lead to the drawing-up of a code setting the common standards of traceability, for there is still a lot of confusion when it comes to certifications. And let’s not forget that the textile industry is closely linked to agriculture and chemicals. The model we draw inspiration from, all differences considered, is the food chain. For instance, a packet of meat purchased at the supermarket provides all the necessary information about the steps from the animal to the meat (birth, breeding, slaughter, packaging). The same, we hope, can be adopted for clothing, which undergoes four main processing stages as well (spinning, weaving, finishing, garment manufacturing), solely in the consumers’ interests, of course.

Is it a difficult challenge?

Yes, it is, but we are willing to take it up and win. We are working hard because transparency is of strategic importance in the long term. And it is a matter involving not only the interests of end users, but also those of the whole production chain, because traceability allows us to determine for certain the cause of a problem and do damage control. In short: more transparency means more value. For everyone.

A che punto è il distretto tessile comasco?

Il nostro distretto è all’avanguardia, molto più avanti rispetto anche ai nostri clienti, che siano i brand o gli intermediari. Cito alcuni esempi: abbiamo portato il Centro Tessile Serico ad essere accreditato come ente promotore e formatore per la certificazione ZDHC, ovvero l’obiettivo di zero scarichi. Prima ancora abbiamo realizzato un vero e proprio disciplinare, il marchio Seri.co., a cui le aziende si attengono per poter dichiarare che un certo tessuto ha determinate caratteristiche positive. Insomma, il sistema è orientato in questo modo.

Quali sono i prossimi passi che intendete fare?

Attraverso EURATEX stiamo avanzando a livello europeo la proposta di definizione di un sistema di trasparenza per il settore tessile. Vorremo arrivare alla stesura di un codice che armonizzi i parametri della tracciabilità, perché anche in tema di certificazioni c’è troppa confusione. Anche perché il nostro settore è strettamente legato all’ambito agricolo e chimico. Il modello, fatte le debite proporzioni, è quello della filiera alimentare. Prendiamo l’esempio della carne. Come sappiamo, quando si acquista una confezione di carne al supermercato vengono riportate le indicazioni dei quattro passaggi fondamentali ai quali l’animale è stato sottoposto (nascita, allevamento, macellazione, confezione). Lo stesso percorso auspichiamo si possa adottare anche per i capi confezionati che guarda caso subiscono anch’essi quattro passaggi fondamentali (filatura, tessitura, nobilitazione e confezione). Questo nell’interesse esclusivo del consumatore. È una sfida difficile?

Sì, ma noi vogliamo vincerla. Ci stiamo impegnando a fondo perché la trasparenza ha una valenza strategica di lungo periodo. L’elemento distintivo rappresenta un valore che deve essere comunicato. Il che non è solo una questione che riguarda il consumatore finale, ma l’intera catena produttiva, perché la tracciabilità permetterà con assoluta certezza di individuare la causa di un problema e circoscriverne i danni. Insomma: più trasparenza corrisponde a più valore. Per tutti. textile 17

Sustainable fashion is not just a passing trend but an urgent issue. On this theme, in January Istituto Europeo di Design together with Consorzio Italiano Implementazione Detox and Greenpeace Italia issued a call to action, launching the The time is now! project for the creation of men’s collections using sustainable raw materials. The fashion business is one of the world’s most polluting industries and is characterised by business models that consume far more resources that the planet can afford.

The Time is Now! is a transformation project which today presents its final results: 5 eco-friendly capsule collections and 5 fashion films, the work of 15 IED students chosen from the Fashion Design and Fashion Stylist courses at the Milan, Rome, Florence, Turin and Como sites. The group, under the creative direction of Alessia Crea, IED alumnus and co-founder of the Casamadre brand, received guidance in designing sustainable collections made using fabrics which use natural or recycled fibres or that have supply chains which follow certified production processes.

“Our mission has always been to train the fashion designers of the future with expertise and passion - explains Sara Azzone, Director of IED Moda Milano. Now, however, it is imperative to teach them about sustainability so they can take this issue into account in the various processes of their projects. When I met Andrea Cavicchi and learned about the fine work that CID - Detox is doing with the endorsement of Greenpeace Italia I thought they could be the perfect partners for educating our students about sustainable fashion and respect for the environment”.

“We are living at a time of great change - comments Paola Pattacini, Director of IED Moda Roma - After years of waste, excess and abuse we are finally seeing a change in mentality, a return to pure creativity, to manual skills and, above all, to sustainability, which enables us to create products that are genuine, ethical and wearable, but most of all refined and sophisticated. The time is now! is a group project involving students from different countries and different IED sites who aim, through their designs, to convey their take on the future of fashion”.

CID was a high-profile partner for the project; in fact, the Consortium participated in the 2006 Detox campaign promoted by Greenpeace to encourage the biggest brands to rid fashion of toxic substances. The The Time is Now! collections were created using fabrics supplied by companies involved in Detox and chosen for their environmentally-friendly processes: Be.Mi.Va, Berto Industrie Tessili, Candiani Denim, Emmetex, Filati Biagioli Modesto, Furpile Idea, Industria Biagioli, Industria Italiana Fialti, Lanificio Mario Bellucci, Marini Industrie, Miroglio Group and Texmoda Tessuti.

Il sistema moda è uno dei più inquinanti del mondo e caratterizzato da modelli di business che consumano molte più risorse di quanto il Pianeta possa permettersi.

The Time is Now! è un progetto di trasformazione che presenta il suo risultato finale: 5 capsule collection eco-friendly e 5 fashion film di racconto, frutto del lavoro di 15 creativi selezionati fra gli studenti IED dei Corsi di Fashion Design e Fashion Stylist delle sedi di Milano, Roma, Firenze, Torino e Como. Il gruppo, con la Direzione Creativa di Alessia Crea, Alumna IED e co-fondatrice del brand Casamadre, è stato guidato nel progettare collezioni che potessero essere sostenibili, realizzate impiegando tessuti che derivano da una filiera che segue processi produttivi certificati o che utilizza fibre naturali o di recupero.

Will summer go smoothly?

Sarà un’estate senza sussulti?

After the recent swirl of events, the 2019 summer trade show schedule seems to proceed smoothly: each trade show has found its own place and identity, although rumors have it that adjustments are still being made within Première Vision, but there is not the slightest confirmation of these rumors.

Florence, Milan, London, Paris and Milan again, preceded by the Frankfurt shows, Techtextil and Texprocess, which have been held in spring and very successfully, not to mention the ITMA fair that ends on the same day this Showcase issue is released at Pitti Filati. The Florentine fair opens, as usual, the summer trade show season (June 26-28), with its display of top-quality yarns. The last of the Pitti Immagine shows in chronological order, but the first in terms of interest on the part of the whole textile value chain, as this show is the market’s litmus test, even the more so after the addition of knits, accessories and services to the textile industry to the show’s product index, making it fully comprehensive.

Milano Unica is back in July (9-11), confident of its repeated success and leading role on the international trade show scene, with an increasing number of top-quality foreign visitors. The results of the past summer show prove the organizers rights, whereas the winter show will have trouble finding its own place on the calendar, far from the Parisian dates.

Immediately after Milano Unica comes The London Textile Fair ( July 16 and 17) which, according to figures and paradoxically, has no margin of growth: Islington’s Business Design Center has a full house and John Kelley and his staff must only worry about staying on their course, with an occasional foray into the US market with the debut of Texfusion New York.

Dopo l’animato turbillon degli ultimi tempi l’estate 2019 delle fiere tessili si presenta senza troppi sussulti, almeno guardando il calendario: ogni salone ha trovato la propria dimensione e la propria collocazione anche se i rumors su alcuni aggiustamenti in casa Première Vision proseguono, senza peraltro trovare la minima conferma dai diretti interessati.

Firenze, Milano, Londra, Parigi e poi ancora Milano sulla scia dei saloni di Francoforte, Techtextil e Texprocess, che hanno invece animato la primavera del tessile con grandi numeri, senza dimenticare ITMA, che chiude i battenti proprio nel giorno in cui questo Showcase arriva a Pitti Filati. Ed è proprio la fiera fiorentina (26-28 giugno) ad aprire come sempre il calendario all’insegna dei filati d’eccellenza. Ultimo evento del trittico di Pitti Immagine ma primo per interesse da parte di tutta la filiera tessile questo salone è la cartina di tornasole del mercato, anche perché l’apertura abbastanza recente a maglieria, accessori e servizi al tessile lo rendono ormai completo.

Milano Unica torna con la sua edizione di luglio (9-11) forte di un successo ripetuto e di una collocazione che le ha fatto riscoprire più che mai un ruolo da protagonista nel panorama fieristico internazionale, con visitatori stranieri aumentati nei numeri e nella qualità. I risultati dell’ultima edizione estiva confermano la bontà della scelta fatta a suo tempo dagli organizzatori, mentre per l’edizione invernale sarà più difficile trovare una collocazione lontana dalle date di Parigi.

A ruota arriva The London Textile Fair (16 e 17 luglio), una fiera che, basandosi sui numeri, non ha per paradosso margini di crescita: tutti gli spazi del Business Design Centre di Islington sono occupati e quindi John Kelley ed il suo staff devo preoccuparsi solo di mantenere la “rotta”, con digressioni sui mercati americani, come testimoniato dal debutto di Texfusion New York.

Première Vision

After the August break, France comes into the spotlight with Première Vision and Texworld (September 15-18) and the Messe Frankfurt event which, as usual, will last one day longer that the Villepinte show. The Fall/Winter collection is the most important one for Italian textile manufacturers, in particular, Pratese manufacturers and, thus, the expectations set on Première Vision are always high, even considering the eagerly-awaited and coveted annual PV Awards. For Texworld, the trade shows held at the same time as the main one, are becoming increasingly important, starting with the denim show: the range of offerings is comprehensive by now and, although the producers come mostly from the Far East, this show seems to attract visitors and customers who used to stay away from Le Bourget’s exhibition center.

The trade show season ends with Filo at Palazzo delle Stelline in Milan (September 25-26) which, in the wake of Milano Unica, will feature for the first time an area devoted to sustainability, the highlight of a show which has been having a very intense 2019 so far.

Dopo la pausa di agosto toccherà alla Francia calare gli assi di Première Vision e Texworld (15-18 settembre) con l’evento di Messe Frankfurt che, come di consueto, durerà un giorno in più rispetto alla fiera di Villepinte. Per i produttori di tessuto italiani, pratesi in particolare, la collezione Autunno/Inverno è quella di punta e quindi le attese per Première Vision sono sempre alte, anche in considerazione dell’appuntamento annuale con i PV Awards, sempre più attesi e ambiti. Per Texworld invece sempre più importanza rivestono le fiere concomitanti, a iniziare da quella del denim: l’offerta è infatti praticamente esaustiva e, anche se i produttori sono in larga parte orientali, questa varietà di offerta sta richiamando visitatori e clienti in precedenza più distanti dal centro espositivo di Le Bourget.

Chiusura con Filo (25-26 settembre) a Milano che, dopo la vetrina a Milano Unica, aprirà per la prima volta l’area dedicata alla sostenibilità, il fiore all’occhiello voluto dagli organizzatori per questa edizione che chiude un 2019 molto intenso per il salone del Palazzo delle Stelline. fairs 29

Faliero Sarti, a long story Faliero Sarti, una lunga storia

Faliero Sarti, a historic name of Prato’s textile industry, turned 70 and celebrated the event with a new 2019-20 Fall/Winter collection telling the story of this company, which was established in 1949 and grew into the successful business it is today by combining entrepreneurial spirit, pursuit of excellence and passion for innovation and experimentation.

Faliero, the founder, started the wool mill specializing in fine fabrics, followed by his son Roberto and the third-generation member of the family, Monica, who, as a young girl, used to help her grandfather arrange the color samples by hue order. That is how she developed her great sense of color.

In the 2000s, Monica introduced her first light-weight scarf collection by removing superfluous fringes and creating soft and light models to be wrapped around the neck like a warm embrace or opened up to reveal stories told through prints and symbols.

The 2019-20 F/W collection features the brand’s most iconic elements, such as flags, maps, hearts, lucky charms and coins, which combine with Faliero Sarti’s traditional patterns, pulled out of the archives and revamped with a contemporary spirit. So, here come the scarves featuring photos of the advertising campaigns of the eighties by photographers of the caliber of Steven Meisel, Javier Vallhonrat and Jérôme Ducrot. The company’s history is also celebrated by using again the three female figures designed by Jean-Jacques Schnegg in 1968, in all their black and white elegance. And for the first time, a tribute to the men’s world with a selection of scarves: tartan and Prince of Wales patterns in a more contemporary version. Faliero Sarti’s 70th birthday is further marked by the launching of Sarti Dot, a red dot designed to strengthen the brand’s recognizability, a small magnet coming with each scarf of the collection.

Faliero Sarti, nome storico del distretto tessile pratese, ha compiuto 70 anni ed ha voluto celebrare il traguardo con una nuova collezione Autunno/ Inverno 2019-20, emblema di una storia di famiglia, iniziata nel 1949 e proseguita negli anni intrecciando il coraggio imprenditoriale, con la vocazione all’eccellenza, la passione per la ricerca e la sperimentazione.

Faliero, il capostipite, fondò il Lanificio specializzato in tessuti di pregio; poi il figlio Roberto, fino ad arrivare alla terza generazione con Monica che, da ragazzina, aiutava, il nonno a riordinare tutte le piccole referenze cromatiche, sistemandole nella giusta sequenza di infinite gradazioni. Ed in questo modo si formò il senso per il colore.

Negli anni 2000 Monica ha sviluppato la sua prima collezione di sciarpe stravolgendo i pesi, togliendo le superflue frange, creando modelli soffici e leggerissimi da avvolgere intorno al collo come da un caldo abbraccio o da aprire per scoprire le tante storie, raccontate attraverso stampe e simboli.

E la stessa proposta per l’AI 2019-20 è punteggiata di elementi iconici del brand come le bandiere, le mappe, i cuori, i porta-fortuna, le monete che si sposano con riferimenti tipici della tradizione del marchio, usciti dall’archivio e rielaborati con spirito contemporaneo. Così sulle sciarpe ritroviamo gli scatti di campagne degli anni ’80, firmati da fotografi come Steven Meisel, Javier Vallhonrat e Jérôme Ducrot, ma la storia del lanificio viene anche rievocata attraverso l’utilizzo delle tre figure femminili ideate nel 1968 da Jean-Jacques Schnegg, la loro eleganza e il grafismo in black & white.

E per la prima volta viena valorizzato anche il mondo maschile con una precisa selezione di sciarpe: gli scozzesi e il Principe di Galles, sono stati reinterpretati per una versione più contemporanea dei pattern. E al giro di boa dei 70 anni Faliero Sarti lancia anche il Sarti Dot, un pallino rosso studiato per sottolineare la riconoscibilità del marchio, un piccolo magnete che accompagnerà ogni sciarpa della collezione. history 31

Brexit: the 2019 uncertainties di Francesco Bianchi - Senior Credit Analyst

Economic and financial globalization is a fact and the world’s largest economies are so closely linked together that no state can hope to go back to souverainism, and yet some of the great Powers are advocating a return to autarky.

The USA’s plan to increase tariffs on Chinese products is a clear example of such a vision. Trump’s foreign policy, aimed at fixing the trade imbalance between China and the United States, led at first to increased tariffs on steel and aluminum imports and then on a number of other Chinese goods.

And when China, in response to a further US tariff increase in May, fired back with higher tariffs on thousands of American products and by threatening to scale back purchases on American debt as retaliation, we learnt just how complicated globalization is. The Chinese government, since always the biggest buyer of American bonds, is able to raise interest rates on the USA debt load, which would impact on the national debt. Analysts estimate that the Tariff War may cost the whole international community 360 billion dollars.

Another uncertainty is the Brexit, especially considering that the total value of the Italy/UK trade is € 34 billion, with the trade balance weighing distinctly in our favour at € 11 billion. The Hard Brexit scenario seems highly unlikely, with the European Union offering an extension.

At this point, the problem is the leadership race to succeed the current Prime Minister: the rise to power of a more pro-Brexit prime minister may have a serious impact on trade, in particular, on food and beverage exports Che il mondo sia totalmente globalizzato a livello economico e finanziario ormai è un dato di fatto, le principali economie mondiali hanno tanti di quegli intrecci da non poter pensare un ritorno al sovranismo, eppure alcune delle principali potenze stanno proprio tentando un ritorno all’autarchia.

La politica estera di Trump, con l’intento di colmare lo sbilancio import/export cinese verso gli USA ha dapprima applicato un aggravio dei dazi su acciaio ed alluminio per poi espandersi su molti altri settori.

E se all’aggravio dei dazi USA di maggio, la Cina ha risposto oltre che con dazi anche con ritorsioni sugli acquisti del debito statale americano, possiamo comprendere come l’intreccio della globalizzazione sia complicato. Il Governo cinese, da sempre il maggior acquirente dei bond sovrani americani, è in grado di innescare un aumento dei tassi del debito USA con ritorsioni sul debito pubblico. Gli analisti stimano che la politica dazi potrebbe portare un costo complessivo globale di 360 miliardi di dollari per l’intera comunità internazionale.

Altra incognita di rilievo è rappresentata dalla Brexit, specie considerando che gli scambi commerciali Italia/Uk ammontano a 34 miliardi di euro con un surplus, a nostro favore, di 11 miliardi. Lo scenario hard Brexit sembra scongiurato, anche con l’apertura temporale concessa dall’Unione Europea. A questo punto il problema è il successore dell’attuale Primo Ministro: un eventuale ascesa di un ultra brexitiano potrebbe avere conseguenze importanti sugli scambi commerciali.

And, last but not least, the impact of the spread effect on Italy’s government debt: repercussion on the banking system, as banks are bondholders, which may translate into heavy and dangerous credit crunch. Of course, variables play an important role and the future has never been as uncertain as it is right now. It is difficult to plan and make forecasts without taking into consideration the impact of these variables, which is the reason why investments are at a standstill and the growing concern for a worst-case scenario only increases uncertainty with repercussions on consumption. We can do nothing but wait and see what happens, hoping that this period of uncertainty will not last long, for it is the worst market instability situation.

L’impatto forte potrebbe essere sulle eccellenze alimentari ma anche sul manifatturiero, basti pensare che in UK si concentrano i maggiori importatori di tessuto per arredamento ma anche di tessuti di qualità per griffe importanti come Burberry e Paul Smith.

Non possiamo non concludere con l’effetto spread sul debito pubblico italiano.

In questo caso le principali ripercussioni sono sul sistema bancario, detentore di titoli pubblici ma, a cascata, arriverebbero al mercato pericolose prospettive di “credit crunch”.

Le variabili purtroppo non mancano e raramente le prospettive sono state incerte come in questo anno. Difficile pianificare e poter fare previsioni senza considerare l’impatto di queste variabili, ragion per cui gli investimenti sono fermi e l’attesa di uno scenario non positivo incrementa lo stato di incertezza con ripercussioni sui consumi.

Non ci resta che aspettare le evoluzioni future sperando solo che lo stato di incertezza non duri troppo tempo perché è la situazione di peggiore instabilità dei mercati. economy 33

For our special focus on Vicenza, one of Italy’s major textile districts, Showcase asked the opinion of Michele Bocchese, the managing director of Gruppo Miles, a knitwear factory since 1962, and President of Confindustria Vicenza’s Fashion and Textile division, who has been active in the world of associations for many years.

What path would you recommend to someone interested in working in the textile industry?

My path is a bit reversed: I began working at my family’s company at a young age, but once I completed my studies, I decided to find a job outside of the family business, at a consulting firm in Milan. But today I would suggest that young people undertake a working experience somewhere else, preferably abroad, before joining the family business. Even going to college away from home is a formative experience. And, of course, it is important to learn a foreign language, in particular, Oriental languages (Arab, Chinese, Russian).

As President, how would you describe the state of health of your industry and district?

Here, as in the whole of Italy, we’ve seen a slowdown in the last three-month period of 2018, which extended into 2019. However, in Vicenza there are some leading companies which are still very competitive at the international level and act as a driving force. Another of the district’s strengths is diversification: from weaving (for instance, Marzotto, Italy’s major group) to downstream companies (brands such as Diesel or Dainese for technical clothing), but we also have leading companies in the tanning industry (Bottega Veneta). Therefore, the city does not identify with a specific sector, but this can prove to be an advantage in difficult times.

What are the key features of the Vicenza district and how has it changed over the past few years?

Diversification has always been a common practice here. In the past few years, however, we’ve seen some serious “shake up”, with no one losing their job though. On the contrary, we currently have trouble finding skilled labor, also due to the government’s crazy “Quota 100” early retirement

Per fare un focus su Vicenza, uno dei maggiori distretti italiani del tessile, Showcase si è rivolto a Michele Bocchese, amministratore delegato del Gruppo Miles, maglificio dal 1962, presidente della sezione Moda e Tessile di Confindustria Vicenza, da molti anni impegnato nell’associazionismo.

Quale percorso consiglierebbe a chi si avvicina al settore tessile di oggi?

Il mio percorso è un po’ a rovescio: ho sempre dato una mano nell’azienda di famiglia, ma dopo gli studi ho deciso di fare un’esperienza al di fuori, una società di consulenza a Milano. Per le nuove generazioni delle imprese familiari consiglio un’esperienza fuori, oggi meglio se internazionale. Già frequentare l’università lontano da casa è un’esperienza formativa. E poi ovviamente le lingue: oggi il plus è dato dalle lingue orientali (arabo, cinese, russo).

Da presidente cosa può dirci della salute del suo settore e del distretto?

Com’è avvenuto a livello nazionale c’è stato un rallentamento nell’ultimo trimestre 2018, confermato all’inizio del 2019. Però Vicenza ha la fortuna di avere alcune aziende capofila che restano competitive sul piano internazionale e fanno da volano. Altro punto a favore del distretto è la grande diversificazione: dalla tessitura (penso a Marzotto, il maggior gruppo italiano) fino alla valle (penso a marchi come Diesel o Dainese per i capi più tecnici) ma abbiamo eccellenze anche nella concia (Bottega Veneta per esempio). Alla luce di tutto questo non è facile identificare la città con un settore specifico, ma questo può essere un vantaggio nei momenti di difficoltà.

Quali sono le caratteristiche del distretto vicentino e come l’ha visto evolvere in questi anni?

La diversificazione di cui parlavamo c’è sempre stata. Gli ultimi anni hanno però visto un forte rimescolamento, soprattutto sul fronte degli addetti, spostamenti, però, che per fortuna non si sono tradotti in disoccupazione. Al contrario oggi c’è difficoltà a trovare manodopera specializzata, anche a causa del delirio di quota 100 che convincerà molti addetti a lasciare. Proprio per garantire una formazione adeguata collaboriamo con le scuole: questo è uno dei

scheme, which encourages qualified workers to retire early. In order to train young people in careers in the textile industry, we collaborate with schools: this is one of the most pressing issues on the board’s agenda right now.

Vicenza is one of Italy’s leading cities in the export of textile products: what challenges is it faced with because of this and how does Confindustria support the local companies?

We have a working group which focuses on the export issues that affect all businesses in every sector. Then we offer support to the companies having trouble with export procedures: it is easy to export within the EU, for it is nearly a domestic market, but it is far more difficult when it comes to Eastern-European markets, and not for large, structured companies, but for the smaller ones. Our division gathers about 100 companies and, in addition to the “Big Five”, there are many others with a turnover of 5 to 6 million euros: it is a great advantage for these companies to have access to our association’s network.

Vicenza is a land of big brands targeted at end users. In what way has the geographical context helped them out?

Let’s start with Bottega Veneta: the name itself suggests a close bond with the region. All these large companies have their headquarters based here, as well as a number of workers. Companies are oriented toward the international market, but in the end you have to have roots. In Veneto, we still believe in the network model, because there is still a value chain. Embroidery, special washing treatments, metal accessories for handbags, dyeing factories: a business network which offers several pluses, such as reaction speed, personal acquaintance. Italy’s value chain is still intact, which is a competitive advantage we need to preserve. Speaking of which, we hope that the future governments will encourage it by, for instance, continuing to support the “Industria 4.0” project which, among other things, allowed the industrial machinery sector to recover and led to more confidence, higher expectations and investments. Unfortunately, however, politics and economics don’t always align.

Vicenza è tra le prime province italiane per export di prodotti tessili: con che difficoltà si scontra questa vocazione?

E Confindustria come sostiene le imprese?

E’ stato creato un gruppo di lavoro sulle tematiche dell’export, trasversale alle eccellenze di tutti i settori. Poi abbiamo percorsi di supporto all’export: esportare all’interno dell’Ue ormai è facile, è quasi un mercato domestico, più difficile l’est Europa e certo non per le aziende sopra il billion, che hanno la loro struttura, ma per le più piccole. Nella sezione ci sono quasi 100 aziende, oltre ai big five ce ne sono molte altre che fatturano 5/6 milioni di euro: per queste aziende è un grande vantaggio poter avere accesso a un network garantito dall’associazione.

Vicenza è anche terra di grandi marchi che arrivano direttamente al consumatore finale: Diesel, Bottega Veneta, Marzotto. In cosa il contesto geografico le ha sostenute?

Parto da Bottega Veneta: il nome stesso fa capire il legame col territorio. Tutte queste grandi aziende hanno mantenuto qua il quartier generale e anche un certo numero di addetti. Le aziende si orientano al mondo internazionale, ma alla fine è necessario avere delle radici. E poi in Veneto c’è ancora il concetto di impresa a rete, perché esiste una filiera. Ricami, lavaggi particolari, accessori in metallo per le borse, tintorie: un network di vicinanza che garantisce alcuni plus: la velocità di reazione, la conoscenza personale. Il fatto che in Italia la filiera sia rimasta integra è un elemento competitivo che va mantenuto.

A questo proposito speriamo che i prossimi governi non trascurino questo fatto e che si prosegua la linea dell’industria 4.0 che ha fatto ripartire, per esempio, il settore della macchine industriali e ha creato fiducia, aspettative, promosso investimenti. Purtroppo però i tempi della politica non sono quelli dell’impresa.

ITMA rhymes with “new” Biancalani, ITMA significa novità

Finally, after four years, the time has come for Biancalani to attend ITMA again. At the textile machinery trade show, the company will be introducing not only its latest machinery developments, but also the brand’s restyling campaign.

So here come four new machines, the new website, updated information leaflets and the company’s first foray into the social media world with a Linkedin profile. A definitely innovative start to 2019 which, however, is the result of years of hard work that will culminate in ITMA Barcelona.

In order to meet the expectations of its customers, at ITMA (Hall 1, A208) Biancalani showcases Airo 24 Evo 5, the fifth version of a very successful machine, with updated technical features, including the fabric being transported inside the machine by air flow. In addition to Airo 24, the Airbox, a pre-dryer which can be applied to the front of all the other drying machines and allows to save up to 50% of treatment time.

There is also the latest version of Brio 24: a machine for the drying, shrinking and relaxing of knits , based on a technique called Active Relax Dryer. The treatment consists in a special frequency vibration which causes the damp knit to shrink and dry at the same time.

The fourth new machine is Aquaria, an open-width washing machine for any kind of fabric, based on Airo 24’s technology and airflow system, in which the movement of the fabric through the machine is induced also by a powerful water flow. A mix of natural elements which emphasizes Biancalani’s eco-friendly and sustainable approach to production, further enhanced by this year’s “Inspired by nature” campaign. For the first time, on display at Biancalani’s ITMA stand, is a collection of fabrics specially made for the Barcelona show, starting from the raw material and treated by using Biancalani machinery.

ITMA will not be the Prato-based company’s last event in 2019, as in November Biancalani will be attending Shanghaitex to introduce the same developments shown at ITMA, but with the help of a perfectly working scale model and members of the staff ready to meet with Asian customers.

Dopo quattro anni di attesa è finalmente arrivato il momento di ITMA anche per Biancalani, che in concomitanza con il salone mondiale del meccanotessile da un lato propone le ultime novità in fatto di macchinari e dall’altro fa un restyling del brand.

In questo caso arrivano quattro macchinari, il nuovo sito web, i rinnovati depliant informativi ed anche l’approdo nel mondo dei social con un profilo su Linkedin: un 2019 decisamente innovativo che troverà a Barcellona il culmine di un lavoro iniziato però con grande anticipo, anche negli anni passati.

Per rispondere alle aspettative dei clienti Biancalani porta nello stand (Hall 1, A208) la Evo 5 dell’Airo 24, quinta edizione di un macchinario di grande successo, presentato con caratteristiche tecniche migliorate e una nuova modulazione del trascinamento del tessuto tramite aria. Accanto all’Airo 24 l’Airbox, un pre-asciugante che può essere applicato anche davanti a tutte le altre macchine di asciugatura del finissaggio e che permette un risparmio del 50% dei tempi di trattamento.

Non manca neppure la Brio 24 nell’ultima versione: una macchina per l’asciugatura e l’ottenimento del massimo restringimento nella maglia, con un procedimento che in inglese viene definito Active Relax Dryer. Il trattamento avviene con una vibrazione a frequenza particolare che ottiene il restringimento durante l’asciugatura della maglia inserita umida.

La quarta novità è Aquaria, un lavaggio in largo, in continuo per ogni tipo di tessuto che deriva dall’esperienza di Airo 24 e dal suo sistema di trascinamento ad aria al quale, con un eiettore più corto ma molto potente, viene aggiunto il trascinamento ad acqua. Un mix di elementi naturali che sottolinea l’approccio ecologico e sostenibile di Biancalani alla produzione, quest’anno evidenziata anche dalla nuova campagna “Inspired by nature”.

Nello stand, per la prima volta, è possibile trovare collezioni di tessuti realizzati in esclusiva per la fiera di Barcellona partendo dal greggio e lavorandoli poi con le macchine Biancalani.

Per l’azienda pratese ITMA non sarà l’ultimo grande appuntamento del 2019, visto che a novembre sarà la volta di Shanghaitex, dove saranno presentate le stesse novità di ITMA con l’ausilio di un modellino in scala perfettamente funzionante e del personale presente in fiera per incontrare i clienti asiatici. focus 39

25 years as the new starting point A Zeta Filati, 25 anni come nuovo punto di partenza

In 1994, Via Buricchi in Vaiano was one of the many industrial areas of the Prato district filled with commission processing plants: very few large companies, many small family-owned and managed factories based in workrooms and warehouses. Such as Ritorcitura Fratelli Aiazzi, for which the summer of 1994 was the last by that name: in July, in fact, on the initiative of the family, in particular, of Alessandro Aiazzi, the company changed its corporate name into A Zeta Filati.

At first, it was simply a formal step in favor of generational turnover. In fact, the company’s core activity remained yarn twisting. Then, with the arrival of the “historic” collaborator Nicola Tognarelli, the company began researching into trends, creating the first sample collections and producing and marketing yarns for fabrics.

Twenty-five years have gone by since then and, in 2019, A Zeta Filati celebrates such an important birthday by looking both back and forward.

In 2000, the company made its first large investment by purchasing yarn twisting machinery and moving to the current headquarters, still on Via Buricchi: it moved only a few meters away from the original location, but it was, nonetheless, a turning point in the history of A Zeta Filati. In 2005, Alessandro Aiazzi bought out the rest of the family and set the company on a new path, being able to go against Prato’s general trend when the crisis hit. In addition to A Zeta Filati, the company providing services, marketing and yarn warehousing, now there is Aiazzi S.r.l., which takes care of the production. And, over the years, more employees added to the Aiazzi-Tognarelli team, bringing the staff to nearly 50, with about a dozen at A Zeta Filati and 35 at Aiazzi.

Since the first 1994 sample collection signed “F.lli Aiazzi”, there has been constant product development and research leading to the collections of fancy yarns for clothing, which have firmly established themselves on the market, and yarns for upholstery and furnishing, while the company has been making the most of its participation in trade shows to promote its name and products.

25 years as a point of arrival? On the contrary, a new starting point, if it’s true that the company is planning to branch out into a new type of product by taking over other production plants.

Nel 1994 via Buricchi a Vaiano era una delle tante zone industriali del distretto pratese vocate soprattutto al conto terzi: poche grandi aziende, tanti piccoli stanzoni e magazzini con ditte a conduzione familiare. In questo contesto nacque, negli anni ’70 dai fratelli Giovanni e Franco, la Ritorcitura Fratelli Aiazzi, ma nell’estate del 1994, su iniziativa dei fratelli Aiazzi e in particolare di Alessandro figlio di Giovanni, si sentì l’esigenza dar vita ad una nuova realtà aziendale, nacque così la A Zeta Filati.

Con la nascita di A Zeta inizia anche la collaborazione con Nicola Tognarelli e cominciarono gli studi sulle tendenze, furono elaborati i primi campionari e partì la commercializzazione dei filati da tessuti.

Da allora sono passati venticinque anni e nel 2019 A Zeta Filati festeggia questo importante compleanno sia guardandosi alle spalle che pensando al futuro.

La storia passata racconta che nel 2000 arrivò il primo investimento, con l’acquisto di un macchinario per la torcitura e nel frattempo si rese necessario lo spostamento negli attuali spazi, sempre in via Buricchi, che rispetto alla sede originaria segnò per A Zeta Filati una vera e propria svolta della quale, nel 2005, Alessandro Aiazzi rilevò tutte le quote dal resto della famiglia dando vita al nuovo corso dell’azienda che, nonostante la crisi del settore, negli anni è riuscita ad andare in controtendenza rispetto al resto del distretto In contemporanea alla nuova compagine sociale nacque anche l’Aiazzi Srl azienda dedicata alla produzione e alla realizzazione dei campionari e delle collezioni commercializzati da A Zeta Filati.

Dai primi campionari o “cartella generale”, firmati “F.lli Aiazzi” del 1994, c’è stata una ricerca ed un’evoluzione del prodotto fino ad arrivare alle attuali collezioni di filati fantasia che si sono imposte sui mercati del tessile-abbigliamento a cui si sono aggiunte, da pochi anni, quelle per l’arredamento e la casa, con la partecipazione alle fiere di settore per promuovere nome e prodotti. Oggi il gruppo A Zeta Filati – Aiazzi conta circa quaranta addetti fra collaboratori e dipendenti.

25 anni come punto di arrivo? Tutt’altro, anzi un nuovo punto di partenza, se è vero che già si guarda ad una nuova tipologia di prodotto che potrebbe passare dall’acquisizione di altre realtà produttive.

Tradition and innovation Rifinizione Vignali: tradizione e innovazione For many years, Rifinizione Vignali has been a name associated with quality and innovation in the field of textile finishing, because of the wide range of state-of-the-art treatments it offers. Quality service has been the company’s strength for 72 years, along with the Vignali family’s uninterrupted ownership of the company. Rifinizione Vignali, in fact, began operating back in 1947, when Silvio Vignali took his first steps as entrepreneur by teaselling blankets. The years 1954-55, with Silvio’s son Ivo joining the company, marked a great turning point in the business. Rifinizione Vignali changed and expanded its production range and processing methods with a view to further industrial development. Ivo is the current president of the board of directors and the third-generation members of the family, Barbara and Silvia, have joined the company too.

Over the years, in addition to new finishing treatments of fine and innovative fabrics, in par-ticular, upholstery fabrics which had not been produced in the Prato area until then, the company became highly specialized in the finishing of acrylic carpets and faux fur coats. In the sixties, the company believed it was time to upgrade the entire machinery fleet and, in 1973, a new dyeing mill, Ma-Vi, was started, adding to the one operating within Rifinizione Vignali. Then the company further expanded its activity, soon becoming well-known not only in the Prato area, but also across the country and abroad. Today, the company can count on a base of regular customers who continue to trust Vignali’s experience and rely on its inno-vative solutions. At present, Rifinizione Vignali, together with Tintoria MA-VI, employs about 100 people and is increasingly committed to research on new technologies and improve-ment of processing and service quality, with an eye to sustainability of production processes.

La Rifinizione Vignali è un nome che da anni rappresenta una garanzia nell’universo del finissaggio, garanzia di qualità, ma anche di modernità, dato che le lavorazioni che l’azienda pratese oggi offre sono ormai numerose e all’avanguardia. Proprio la qualità del servizio è il fil rouge dei 72 anni di attività. Un altro punto fermo è la proprietà, sempre della famiglia Vignali. L'attività della Rifinizione Vignali infatti è iniziata nel 1947 quando Silvio Vignali inizia la sua attività di imprenditore artigiano occupandosi della garzatura di coperte. Negli anni ’54/’55, lo affianca il figlio Ivo che porta un vero e proprio giro di boa nell’attività imprenditoriale. Innanzitutto un ampliamento della tipologia di tessuti lavorati, in seconda battuta l’allargamento del giro di affari in un’ottica sempre più industriale. Ivo Vignali è oggi presidente del Consiglio di amministrazione, ma è affiancato dalla terza generazione, le figlie Barbara e Silvia.

Le novità nelle tipologie di lavorazioni fatte e di tessuti trattati sono soprattutto il finissaggio di tessuti pregiati e innovativi, tessuti anche rivolti al settore dell’arredamento e in questo caso si tratta di una novità per il settore pratese. Ulteriore passaggio sono le lavorazioni di finissaggio di tappeti di acrilico e pellicce ecologiche. Più recentemente la Rifinizione Vignali si è specializzata nei velluti e tessuti da arredamento. L’ampliamento delle lavorazioni offerte dalla Rifinizione porta ben presto, già negli anni ’60, la necessità di un imponente rinnovamento del parco macchine, nel 1973 viene addirittura fondata una nuova tintoria, la Ma-Vi, che affianca quella interna della Rifinizione Vignali.

Parallelamente all’allargamento dei servizi offerti si allarga anche il mercato, i cui confini non sono più quelli del distretto, ma quelli nazionali prima e internazionali dopo. Oggi l’azienda conta un portafoglio di clienti consolidati che si fidano dell’esperienza e contano sulle innovazioni che Vignali garantisce. Attualmente la Rifinizione Vignali insieme con la Tinto-ria MA-VI contano complessivamente circa 100 dipendenti, ancora più forte è l’impegno nella ricerca di nuove tecnologie e nel miglioramento della qualità dei processi e dei servizi, con un occhio sempre attento alla sostenibilità delle lavorazioni.

An eye to the market’s developments Tessitura Tronci: attenzione alle novità del mercato

From weaving mill to holding: this is the impressive growth of the company owned and operated by the Tronci family, with the fourth-generation member Tiziano now at the helm of the business. Tessitura Tronci is a weaving and warping company for both samples and regular production, but it started off as a weaving mill and began to grow in 1994 when Tiziano joined the company. The machinery fleet expanded from 12 to the current 26 machines as the company moved its headquarters to Montemurlo in 2008. And the machinery fleet continued to grow by adding two drawing-in machines to perform this processing stage in house.

“The decision of bringing some processing stages in house- Tiziano Tronci says- has led to a considerable reduction of costs and time. Actually, production speed, in addition to processing quality, is our greatest strength”. The crisis, which led to the shutdown of many plants, as well as the lack of generational turnover, allowed Tronci to take over several interesting companies. A weaving mill in Montemurlo including warehouse and machinery, another company with part of the machinery and, in order to offer a more streamlined service through in-house processing, the historic Orditura Poli Paola, including two employees, two warehouses and seven warping machines. In 2017, a sample weaving factory and, then another warping mill. “The shutdown of many enterprises- Tronci says- has increased the number of qualified workers available on the market, which is our most successful investment to date, as we are now able to keep 102 weaving machines going”. In 2012, Tessitura Tronci was converted into a limited liability company which is owned by the Tiziano Tronci holding. The company offers a wide range of processing services and Tronci is ready to buy the equipment required. “At ITMA 2011 - Tronci says- I bought a kit that allowed us to perform a processing stage for many years, quickly paying back the purchase”. The Group’s customers are based in Prato, as well as several Northern-Italian companies whose requests, however, Tronci is not always able to satisfy. “We are fortunate in being able to choose although our goal is obviously that of satisfying as many customers as possible”.

Da tessitura a holding: è la crescita dell’impresa familiare Tronci, che ha attualmente al timone la quarta generazione rappresentata da Tiziano. La Tessitura Tronci è una tessitura e un’orditura sia per campioni che per produzione, nasce però come tessitura e comincia a crescere dal 1994,quando Tiziano entra in azienda. Dalle 12 macchine si passa a 26 contestualmente al trasferimento della sede a Montemurlo, nel 2008. In quell’occasione vengono aggiunte al parco macchine due incorsatrici per svolgere all’interno questa attività. “La scelta di portare all’interno alcune lavorazioni – commenta Tiziano Tronci – ha comportato una riduzione dei costi e soprattutto dei tempi. In effetti proprio i tempi che riusciamo a garantire, oltre ovviamente alla qualità della lavorazione, è il nostro punto di forza”.

La crisi del settore tessile, che ha portato molte chiusure e spesso il mancato passaggio generazionale in aziende familiari, ha consentito a Tronci di rilevare alcune realtà interessanti. Una tessitura a Montemurlo con magazzino e impianti, un’altra di cui sono state mantenute anche alcune macchine, poi, per avere un servizio più snello grazie alle lavorazioni interne, la storica Orditura Poli Paola, con i suoi dipendenti, due magazzini e sette orditoi. Infine nel 2017 è stata rilevata una tessitura a campioni e solo due mesi fa un’altra orditura. “La chiusura di tante realtà imprenditoriali ha messo sul mercato numerose maestranze con una grande professionalità – commenta Tronci – questo è stato l’acquisto più importante, che ci consente di far girare attualmente 102 macchine di tessitura”.

Così dal 2012 la Tessitura Tronci è una srl che, insieme alla T.Tex e alla Daisy, è posseduta dalla holding Tiziano Tronci. Le lavorazioni sono le più disparate e se per qualche lavorazione non è attrezzata, la Tessitura è pronta all’acquisto. “In occasione della passata edizione di Itma a Barcellona – ricorda Tronci – acquistai un kit che ci ha consentito per anni una lavorazione che ha ampiamente ripagato l’acquisto e ci ha aperto una fetta di mercato assolutamente interessante”. Il gruppo lavora soprattutto per Prato, ma non mancano richieste dal Nord che tuttavia non sempre Tronci è in grado di accogliere. “Per fortuna ormai possiamo permetterci di scegliere – conclude - anche se ovviamente il nostro obiettivo è di soddisfare più clienti possibile”.

At first it was a trend, then it became a habit, now someone thinks of it as an addiction. We are talking about sushi, the quintessential Japanese dish which has become so popular in Europe, because of its superb presentation, colors and unusual ingredients, that now there is a growing multitude of sushi fans craving for Japanese raw fish even when they are away from home, travelling internationally for business or leisure. And, of course, in the big trade show cities, it is not difficult to satisfy the appetite of the most demanding palates.

In Florence, Japanese cuisine can be found in several places downtown. Fusion Bar & Restaurant (3 Vicolo dell'Oro) combines design, art and fashion at a gourmet restaurant just steps from the Ponte Vecchio, housed in the Gallery Hotel Art. Kome (41r Via dei Benci) offers Kaiten Sushi, that is, plates of sushi revolving around the restaurant on a conveyor belt. On the lower floor, there is a more intimate room with wine and sake bar to enjoy pre or after-dinner drinks. On the second floor, alternative menu choices, in particular, barbecued meat, for those who would rather not have fish. Momoyama (10r Borgo San Frediano) was one of the first sushi restaurants to open in Florence, over ten years ago. A classic Japanese menu including raw fish (sushi and sashimi) and tempura rolls, in addition to an extensive wine list of the finest national and international labels. Wabi Sabi (53 Viale dei Mille) is an intimate and elegant restaurant just outside of downtown Florence. The menu includes traditional sushi and sashimi dishes, as well as soups, rice, temaki and futomaki rolls.

In Milan, Japanese cuisine arrived sooner than in other parts of Italy. The historic name on the local ethnic restaurant scene is Poporoya (17 Via Bartolomeo Eustachi), a small venue with grocery shop, which was established 40 years ago and is still the favorite destination of traditional Japanese cuisine lovers. Iyo (74 Via Piero della Francesca) was the first ethnic restaurant in Italy to be awarded the Michelin star. The highest standard of service, an excellent wine and sake list and top-quality cuisine prepared by Italian Chef Michele Biassoni with a lot of Japanese assistants. And considering that Milano Unica show is held in July, dining outdoors may be the perfect end to a long busy day, perhaps by enjoying unusual Japanese dishes at Finger’s Garden (2 Via Giovanni Keplero. The first original Finger’s, with branches in Porto Cervo, Rome and Megève, is located at 2 Via San Gerolamo Emiliani): rice pizza, sashimi and rice ravioli with chicken are some of Chef Okabe’s offerings.

In London, Japanese cuisine has been a regular feature on the local dining scene for many years, as in any cosmopolitan city in which Una volta era una moda, poi è diventata un’abitudine, adesso per qualcuno è qualcosa di irrinunciabile. Stiamo parlando del sushi, il piatto giapponese per eccellenza che, dopo essere sbarcato in Europa attraendo i buongustai anche per la presentazione dei piatti, i colori e gli ingredienti insoliti, si è ritagliato una fetta di mercato di clienti fissi ed è per questo che non è insolito che ci siano persone che cercano il pesce crudo nipponico anche quando sono lontane da casa, per vacanze o per lavoro. Ed ovviamente nelle grandi città delle fiere non è difficile soddisfare questa richiesta del palato.

A Firenze i piatti giapponesi sono arrivati anche in pieno centro storico. Il Fusion Bar & Restaurant (vicolo dell'Oro 3) abbina design, arte e moda in un ristorante gourmet dietro Ponte Vecchio, nel cuore del Gallery Hotel Art. Da Kome (via dei Benci 41r) c’è anche il Kaiten Sushi, il sushi bar dove i piatti sono disposti su un tapis roulant. Al piano inferiore il privèe con angolo wine e sakè bar per un tranquillo aperitivo o dopocena. Al piano superiore, per chi non vuole il pesce, c’è la griglia per la cottura della carne. Momoyama (borgo San Frediano 10r) è stato uno dei primi ad aver portato il sushi a Firenze, più di 10 anni fa. Il menù è classico giapponese con pesce crudo (sushi e sashimi) e tenpura roll, completato da una grande carta dei vini, con etichette pregiate nazionali e internazionali.

Infine Wabi Sabi (viale dei Mille 53), un luogo intimo ed elegante fuori dal centro storico: il menù comprende sia i classici sushi e sashimi che zuppe, riso, temaki e futomaki.

A Milano l’Oriente è arrivato prima che altrove in Italia ed anche i giapponesi hanno iniziato dalla cucina. Il nome storico è quello del Poporoya (Via Bartolomeo Eustachi 17), ristorante piccolo con tanto di alimentari giapponesi, aperto 40 anni fa e ancora meta fissa di chi ama la cucina tradizionale giapponese. Ha fatto storia a modo suo anche Iyo (via Piero della Francesca 74), il primo ristorante etnico in Italia ad aver conquistato una stella Michelin. Standard elevato per servizio, carta dei vini e dei sakè e nella cucina, guidata dallo chef italiano Michele Biassoni ma con tanti collaboratori giapponesi. E visto che Milano Unica si svolge a luglio non è affatto da scartare una cena all’aperto, magari con un menu sì giapponese ma decisamente insolito. E’ il caso del Finger’s Garden (via Giovanni Keplero 2. In via San Gerolamo Emiliani 2 c’è invece il primo Finger’s, che ha aperto anche a Porto Cervo, Roma e Megève): pizza di riso, sashimi e ravioli di riso con pollo alcuni dei piatti proposti dallo chef Okabe.

Il “giapponese” a Londra rientra invece nella assoluta normalità di una capitale cosmopolita nella quale gusti, sapori ed odori si mescolano dalla notte dei tempi. Quindi l’offerta è davvero ampia e consigliare un posto anziché un altro è quasi una scommessa. Proviamo con un nome 52 cities

Yio - Milan different tastes, flavors and aromas have been mixing and mingling since the dawn of time. Therefore, there is a wide range of choices and we can’t really recommend one place in particular. Anyway, one eatery within everyone’s reach is Sticks ‘n’ Sushi (five restaurants in Wimbledon, Covent Garden, Greenwich, Canary Wharf and Victoria): a mix of yakitori (skewered meat) and sushi. Atari-Ya has several branches too and not only it provides all London restaurants with fresh fish, but offers the tasting on-site of some true treats, such as Uni (sea urchin), Botan Ebi (shrimps) and Engawa (flatfish fin).The restaurants are located in Ealing Common, Swiss Cottage, Golders Green and there is a take-out on James Street. Japan Center (35b Panton Street) is the go-to place for Londoners who love authentic Japanese cuisine: it is in a basement and as soon as you walk in, it feels like you’re in Japan. Sushi Masa (33B Walm Lane) is a sushi bar with a rich and varied menu, and with such a high reputation that you usually have to book way in advance. Another family-run Japanese restaurant is Sushi Waka (75 Parkway, Camden), with Japanese-style interiors, in particular, on the upper floor room, which is furnished with tatamis and cushions in place of chairs. If your budget allows for a splurge, we suggest Aqua Kyoto (5th floor, 240 Regent Street), whose price, because of the location, dress code – formal dressing is not mandatory, but appreciated- and atmosphere, is in keeping with the restaurant’s high reputation. In summertime, customers can dine on the rooftop terrace.

And last, but only according to the trade show calendar, is Paris. Again, as with London, there are so many options to choose from, but there are also several names on which all experts seem to agree. One of these is Kifune (44, Rue Saint-Ferdinand, Porte Maillot area), whose style can be described as “antique” , both outside and inside. The menu includes all Japanese specialties, from sushi to very beautifully presented tasting dishes. Tsukizi (2, Bis Rue des Ciseaux) takes you to an imaginary Japanese city, although the entrance is on a typical Parisian alley: the menu features sushi and a lot of beverages and liqueurs. Di Kura (56, Rue de Boulainvilliers) is said to have the city’s most comprehensive menu, for it includes dishes which can be usually enjoyed only in Japan. A must-try for those who wish to enjoy Japanese cuisine just steps away from the Eiffel Tower. Our tour ends at two restaurants located on the same street, Rue Sainte-Anne. The first one, at number 11, is You, a sushi bar offering maki, onigiri, ochazuke, all prepared with fresh ingredients and on show on the counter. The second one, at number 37, is Sapporo, whose signature dish is ramen, noodles in soy or miso-flavored chicken broth. The interiors are not what you would describe as “design”, but they don’t seem to affect the delicious dishes.

I ristoranti sono a Ealing Common, Swiss Cottage, Golders Green e un take-out in James Street. Il Japan Center (Japan Centre, 35b Panton Street) è il punto di riferimento per i londinesi che amano l’autentica cucina giapponese: si trova in un seminterrato entrando nel quale finisce l’Inghilterra ed inizia il Giappone. Il Sushi Masa (33B Walm Lane) è invece un sushi bar con un menu ricco e vario, ma anche con una reputazione così alta che per trovare posto è quasi sempre necessaria la prenotazione. Nome simile ed anche in questo caso conduzione familiare per il Sushi Waka (75 Parkway, Camden) un locale anche arredato in stile giapponese, soprattutto al piano superiore dove si trovano tatami e cuscini al posto delle sedie.

Chiusura con un sacrificio per il portafoglio, visti i prezzi superiori rispetto alle precedenti indicazioni: Aqua Kyoto (5 ° piano, 240 Regent Street) per location, eleganza di abbigliamento, non richiesta ma gradita, ed atmosfera richiede una spesa in linea con il prestigio del locale, che d’estate offre anche la terrazza sul tetto.

Infine, ma solo basandosi sul calendario delle fiere, Parigi. Anche in questo caso pescare il meglio nel mare delle scelte possibili è impresa ardua ma ci sono alcuni nomi sui quali convergono gli apprezzamenti degli esperti. Uno è Kifune (44, Rue Saint-Ferdinand, zona Porte Maillot), che basa sul concetto di “antico” il suo stile, sia all’esterno che all’interno. Ci sono tutte le specialità, dal sushi ai classici piatti di assaggio molto coreografici. Tsukizi (2, Bis Rue des Ciseaux) vi porta nel cuore di una immaginaria città giapponese anche se l’ingresso è in un tipico vicolo parigino: in repertorio sushi e molte bevande e liquori. Di Kura (56, Rue de Boulainvilliers) si dice che abbia il menù più completo di tutta la metropoli, vista la presenza di piatti tipici assaggiabili solo in Giappone. Quindi imperdibile per chi vuole mangiare giapponese a due passi dalla Torre Eiffel. Chiusura di tour nipponico con due locali che si trovano nella stessa strada, rue Sainte-Anne. Il primo, al numero 11, è You, un sushi bar dove ordinare i famosi maki, onigiri, ochazuke, tutti preparati con prodotti freschi e in bella vista, grazie alla presenza del bancone aperto. Il secondo, al civico 37, è Sapporo, che ha nel ramen, la zuppa di noodles in brodo di pollo o maiale da condire con il miso o la salsa di soia, il vero piatto forte. Il locale non ha grandi pretese di design ma il gusto non ne risente affatto.
