A Message from our Bishop

Sr.

Do Not Allow FAilure to Stop You

Ibelieve that at the core of failure is fear—not so much before the failure but, more importantly, after the failure. Hear the words of the writer of Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

I know what you are thinking: “What does faith have to do with failure?” Allow me to explain in its simplest form. I remember when Kevin took his first steps without assistance. We were in the living room of my mother’s house. Kevin finally mustered enough courage to do it, and guess what? He did it. We all screamed with excitement and joy. So, he tried again and again (you know where this is going). After about seven or eight tries, the inevitable occurred—he fell. Now, the fear of falling was in his spirit. It took two or three days before he tried again. He was scared, but he overcame his fear. The next time he fell, he simply got up again.

What does this story tell us? Fear and failure work against our faith. The key to this revelation is that your breakthrough can only be achieved by consistently challenging and working through your fears. Temporary failures are often followed by lasting success.

John Dewey once said, “Failure is instructive. The person who really thinks learns quite as much from his failures as from his successes.” Walter Brunell said, “Failure is the tuition you pay for success.”

Given these principles, we see that this applies to various areas of life:

• The person who does not trust anyone.

• The person who gives up on finding love.

• The person who won’t take a driving test, even though they want to drive.

At the center of these occurrences are fear and failure. Here are three short ideas I want to plant within you:

1 Stop internalizing fears and failures

2. Debrief after failures.

3. Try again.

The truth is, the Lord is not expecting you not to fail, but He is expecting you to keep trying. Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV) says “For a righteous man may fall seven times, and rise again…”

Lessons From A Sinful Women

Ilovethe passage from Luke 7:36-50 where Simon, the Pharisee, invites Jesus to a meal and a sinful woman, as Luke describes her, comes to Simon’s house to see Jesus. With her she brings an alabaster jar of costly perfume. She knew Jesus would be eating at Simon’s house and came prepared to offer this gift to Jesus.

I can only imagine what her emotions were that day. Surely, she was nervous, ashamed and afraid. Even so, she slips quietly amongst the townspeople who have populated the perimeter of the courtyard where Jesus and Simon were seated

The township came to listen to this visiting guest. Obviously, she was unnoticed at first. She knew she would not be welcomed because her reputation (adulteress/prostitute) preceded her. However, she persevered in spite of. She trembled as she stepped closer out of the shadows, with her hair down. This was forbidden for Jewish women, in fact, Rabbis considered it grounds for divorce .

Instead of following culture, which is for guests to sit at lower tables, with their feet furthest from the table. She came to Jesus’ feet and wept as she noticed the negative reactions of the crowd towards her. Having nothing to wipe away her tears from Jesus’ feet, she used her hair to cleanse His feet and kissed them. Simon, as everyone else, noticed the situation. Simon said to himself, if He is a Prophet, He should know what manner of woman was touching Him. It was unheard of for anyone to come into a Pharisee’s home and act this way.

She was courageous beyond measure. She didn’t care what the consequences were. She was determined to get to Jesus and anoint Him with her perfume. Regardless of what anyone thought, the most important thing of all was that Jesus forgave her and washed her sins away. What a joy and delight! He speaks to her and forgives her. She left Simon’s house floating on cloud nine and shaken to the core by Jesus’ love and grace.

What have I learned from this? Regardless of your sins and whether people like you or not, spread lies and try to get others to dislike for whatever happened between you and your enemy, God will always love you, forgive you and He is the only one with the power over Heaven or Hell.

Flipping Through The Pages

As I flip through the pages of Chapter 1 of my life, I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad something seems today, life goes on and the sun will come up tomorrow.

I’ve learned that I have discovered a lot about myself by handling these three things: rainy days, a tangled necklace and traffic (running late). I’ve learned that as a woman, daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend and human, I hope that I am not defined by my worst moments because I am so much more!

I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. God has no limit to the abundant fall downs and getting back up again moments that He gifts me and has gifted me with. I’ve learned that God’s abundant grace has opened doors I did not deserve and closed doors and friendships that were not a part of His plan for my life.

I’ve learned that the “What Would Jesus Do” (WWJD) mindset and movement are so much more than a fad or trend. In this walk through this thing called life, WWJD is the blueprint for guiding me through. WWJD is the voice that speaks to my spirit.

I’ve learned that earning a living is not the same as making a life . A house is not a home if there is no one there . I’ve learned that life is too short to allow someone to steal my peace and their negativity to find a home in my heart, mind and spirit. Therefore, not answering calls, texts, invitations or emails are my superpowers (self-protection and management).

I’ve learned that even when I experience pain and disappointment, I don’t have to be a pain or disappointment to others.

As I start to flip through the pages of Chapter 2 of my life, I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn, Now I write in pencil because I may need to erase some things!

Drop The Rocks and Mind Your Business!

John 8: 1-9 1But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2Now [a]early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4they said to Him, “Teacher, [b]this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5Now [c]Moses, in the law, commanded us [d]that such should be stoned. But what do You [e]say?” 6This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, [f]as though He did not hear. 7So when they continued asking Him, He [g]raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9Then those who heard it, being[h] convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last.

It is amazing how we as humans are always in someone else’s business. However, normally when people are in other people’s business, it is normally being nosey, negative and condemning. Wouldn’t it be great if people had genuine concern and approached people in a positive and optimistic manner to assist their fellow humans?

One of my friends used to say, “If I can’t help you, I will not hurt you.” At work one day, people were discussing how could a co-worker afford a new car and a new house. Before I knew it, I blurted out “If she doesn’t ask you for help with the payments why are you worried about it?”

I went on to say, “The world would be a better place if everyone spent six months minding their own business and six months staying out of other people’s business, which means a whole year of peace.”

In our scripture, the scribes and Pharisees accused a woman of adultery. They were accusing the woman, but they were also trying to test Jesus to see what He would say about the woman’s sin. Jesus tried to ignore them. These nosey and negative people kept pushing, then Jesus had to stand up and check the accusers. Jesus said, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” He basically told them to “Drop the Rocks and Mind Your Business!”

Most of the time when people are judging others, they never look in the mirror and remember their own sins. Before we judge someone, remember your sins of cussing, gambling, gossiping, lusting, lying, etc. We should be praying for people instead of pointing a judgmental finger at them.

“Drop the Rocks and Mind Your Business!”

Forgiveness Isn’t About the Other Person – It’s About You

Forgiveness is often misunderstood as something we do for the benefit of the person who hurt us but, in reality, it’s a profound act of self-care. It’s not about excusing or condoning someone’s wrongdoing; rather, it’s about freeing us from the emotional burden of resentment and pain. By choosing to forgive, we release the hold that hurt has over us, allowing us to heal and move forward. When we truly grasp that forgiveness is for our own healing and freedom, we unlock the door to peace, growth, and restoration.

The Burden of Un-forgiveness

Holding onto un-forgiveness is like carrying a heavy burden that weighs us down emotionally, mentally and physically. Resentment, bitterness and anger can consume our thoughts and prevent us from moving forward. When we refuse to forgive, we are the ones who suffer most, as it traps us in a cycle of negativity, where the offense continues to hold power over us .

Un-forgiveness can even affect our health. Studies have shown that chronic stress, caused by unresolved emotional pain, can lead to various health issues such as anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and weakened immunity. By clinging to past hurts, we allow the wrongs done to us to have a lasting negative impact on our well-being.

Nelson Mandela once said, “Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.” This quote perfectly encapsulates the destructive nature of un-forgiveness. It doesn’t harm the person who hurt us, instead it harms us by keeping us bound to the pain.

Forgiveness as a Path to Freedom

Choosing to forgive is an act of self-liberation. It is a conscious decision to let go of the hurt, the resentment and the desire for revenge. When we forgive, we are not saying that what happened was acceptable or that we are minimizing the pain. Instead, we are reclaiming control over our own emotions and refusing to allow the past to dictate our present or future .

Forgiveness allows us to break free from the emotional hold of the offense and start the process of healing. It creates space for peace, joy and emotional well-being to enter our lives. The energy once used to nurse grudges and dwell on the pain can now be redirected toward personal growth and restoration

In Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus teaches about the importance of forgiveness, stating, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” This scripture emphasizes that forgiveness is not just an option but a necessity for our spiritual health. By forgiving others, we open ourselves up to the grace and healing that God offers us.

Continue on page 6

Forgiveness Is a Choice, Not a Feeling

Forgiveness is often misunderstood as an emotional response. We wait to “feel” ready to forgive, believing that once the hurt fades or the other person apologizes, we will finally be able to let go. However, forgiveness is not about waiting for our feelings to change or for someone else to make things right It is a deliberate choice we make to release the hurt and move forward .

It’s important to acknowledge that forgiveness doesn’t always happen all at once. It is a process that can take time, especially in cases of deep betrayal or pain. Some days, the decision to forgive may come easily, while other days, the feelings of anger and hurt may resurface. This is normal. The key is to continually choose forgiveness, even when emotions pull you in a different direction.

Forgiveness Brings Emotional and Spiritual Healing

Forgiveness is powerful because it leads to emotional and spiritual healing. By forgiving, we give ourselves permission to heal. When we hold onto un-forgiveness, we stay connected to the pain and the person who hurt us. Forgiveness severs that connection, allowing us to reclaim our lives and find peace.

From a spiritual perspective, forgiveness aligns us with God’s will for our lives. We are reminded that just as we are in need of forgiveness, so are others. Colossians 3:13 encourages us to “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” By forgiving others, we reflect God’s grace in our own lives, opening the door for deeper spiritual growth.

Setting Boundaries and Learning from the Past

It’s important to note that forgiveness does not mean forgetting or allowing someone to continue hurting you. Forgiveness is about letting go of the emotional grip the person has on you, but it does not require you to remain in harmful situations or relationships. Setting boundaries and protecting yourself is crucial.

Forgiveness and wisdom go hand in hand. By forgiving, we free ourselves from the weight of the past, but we also learn valuable lessons from the experience. We can grow stronger, wiser and more discerning in how we navigate future relationships and challenges

Conclusion: Forgiveness as a Gift to Yourself

Forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. It is an act of self-compassion that releases you from the prison of bitterness and allows you to walk in freedom and healing. By choosing to forgive, you take back your power, restore your peace of mind and open yourself to a life of emotional and spiritual wholeness. In the end, forgiveness isn’t about the other person – it’s about reclaiming your own peace and well-being.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO IN THE LION’S DEN?

Scripture: Daniel 6:11-12;18-22

Are you going to complain, pout, cry, praise or PRAY? Tell me, “What are you going to do in the lion’s the Den?

One of the most important things you do when opposition and warfare comes or the enemy attacks is you do what you’re supposed to do regardless of how you feel and that is to PRAY! All of us have a lion’s den. What is your lion’s den? Is it unforgiveness, sickness, hardship, etc.?

What situation are you facing right now that is causing you to consider taking the easy way out? What circumstance in your life would be more easily “handled” if you would slightly “adjust” your Bible-centered convictions?

Note that Our lion’s den is NOT our situation or circumstance Our lion’s den is how we handle that situation or circumstance. It is a place of testing your faith in God. We must remember that situations and circumstances are going to always come and go our entire lives. However, those problems still don’t count as the lion’s den As I am reminded in Romans 8:37, Paul tells us, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” So how are we going to handle, approach and respond to these things. I’m glad you asked!

According to our text, Daniel was faithful to his king but stood firm in his belief in God. In Daniel Chapter 6, Daniel is 80 years old, and he’s been serving in the government of Babylon for over 60 years. King Darius grew to like Daniel because of his relationship with God and according to the King, he found an excellent spirit in Daniel. However, Daniel’s enemies tried to find a way to accuse him. So they convinced King Darius to submit a decree that no one is to pray to any other God but the king.

Daniel knew that he would have to face the den if he kept praying to God but he did it anyway. He was ready to go into the den because he knew God was going to sustain him through it. Just like Daniel we must be ready to face certain situations that God places us in not because it’s a test for no reason, but it’s allowing God to see how we’re going to respond to it. Sometimes you may just have to keep sitting and praying.

There is a song that says “Just keep on praying the Lord is nigh, just keep on praying He’ll hear your cry. The Lord has promised, His word is TRUE, just keep on praying He’ll answer you.” Everyday Daniel would go up to his room and continually pray but, don’t you know that while you’re living, testifying and giving God praise, your enemies are also listening too .

So, the other leaders in the kingdom persuaded the King to put Daniel into the lion’s den. I can still hear Daniel in the lion’s den praying. Remember, never stop praying. I could hear Daniel praying, “Father, You are omnipotent, You are omnipresent. If You did it before, I am sure that you can do it again!” For the Bible tells us to “Pray without ceasing (1st Thessalonians 5:17) which is our greatest weapon .

The text tells us that the King really didn’t want to put Daniel in the lion’s den. As soon as the morning came, the King ran to see about Daniel. Daniel’s testimony to the King was that God sent an angel to shut the lion’s mouth because he stayed faithful to God. The King declared. based on seeing what God did for Daniel, that the God of Daniel was to be praised and worshiped.

God always get His glory! Again, I ask “What are you going to do in the Lion’s den?

Amen.

Scripture: Revelation 12:11 - And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

Earlier this year, Bishop Gresham taught a series about Esther and the stand she took to save her people from a plot to extinguish their very existence.

Just as he showed us how Esther put on the Whole Armor of God, (Ephesians 6:10-17) as we go through life’s challenges and face or hear about sickness, financial issues, mental illness and so many other trying matters that pull at the very core of our being, we, too, must put on the Whole Armor of God daily.

Each day, we must be equipped for battle and to share our testimony! All too often, we underestimate the power of our testimony and God’s ability to use it to transform the lives of others.

We sometimes hesitate because we don’t want anyone to know our struggles, or as the older folks used to say, “what goes on in this house, stays in this house.” For those who subscribe to that saying, that’s OK. It’s perfectly understandable to not put all your business in the street.

However, when someone has been healed or delivered from drugs, alcohol, shopping addiction, smoking or whatever their issue may have been, shouldn’t we as Christians share our stories so that others can be delivered and set free?

Revelation 12:11 says “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb (Christ’s death on the cross) and by the word of their testimony.” Our testimony may just give someone hope in that moment when they were just about to give up.

Our part is to TELL IT! The Holy Spirit will surely do the rest! He will connect our testimony to whomever He chooses to make a difference in their lives. Just think about it...How do we make even a small change in this world if we don’t share our trials and triumphs? How will God ever get the glory or the world know that He’s still performing miracles if we never share what He’s done in our lives.

In Mark Chapter 5:19-20 we are told about a man that was demon possessed that Jesus healed. In verse 19 He tells the man to “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you. 20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.”

Jesus didn’t even tell him to tell the world, he told him to go home to his friends and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you. Now if each believer would follow Jesus instruction here, what do you think our world would look like?

Continue on page 9

We each have stories to “TELL” that God has allowed us to experience and come through, sometimes not even for ourselves. Many times our trials, and yes even our struggles may be for the benefit of others.

Esther was willing to sacrifice her very life for her people, and boldly declared in Esther 4:16, if I perish, I perish!

There is always an opportunity to share the goodness of the Lord with somebody somewhere.

Standing in line at the grocery store, riding in an Uber, talking to neighbors and here’s a great one...at the doctor’s office.

We can be a blessing to others in ways that don’t involve spending a dime or dollar but earn eternal dividends.

If the Lord taught you the importance of communication in your marriage TELL IT!

If you received your financial breakthrough by creating a budget or investing in stocks…TELL IT!

If God has healed you of whatever your issue was TELL IT!

Psalm 71:15 declares, My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And Your salvation all the day…

Psalm 105:1 says, Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!

Verse 2 tells us to talk of His wonderful works!

Sisters and Brothers, if God has done anything for you, TELL IT!!!

Amen.

He Will See You Through

Ishare this testimony in the hopes that it will encourage someone else who is going through their own battle. Trust in God - He will see you through.

In December 2013, I received the news that no one ever wants to hear— Bladder Cancer. The doctors looked me in the eye and delivered the diagnosis which shook my world. However, even in that moment of fear, I held onto my faith, believing that God would bring me through. I underwent six treatments of chemotherapy and to the doctor’s amazement, I went into remission. However, the journey wasn’t over.

Shortly after, I suffered a mini-stroke which reminded me that my battles were not yet behind me. I pressed on, trusting in the God who had already brought me this far. Then in 2017, the cancer came back. This time, I had to face it alongside another challenge—COVID-19.

I contracted COVID-19 and pneumonia at the same time, and there were two days when I didn’t even know where I was. All I wanted during those dark hours was to hear Bishop Gresham’s voice, to be reminded that my faith would bring me through. I spent ten days in the hospital, fighting both the virus and the cancer that had returned, but I never lost hope, knowing that God was still with me.

After another six treatments of chemotherapy, I went back into remission. Along the way, I dealt with high blood pressure and diabetes, but I never gave up. Then, on May 19, 2024, I received the news I had been praying for—no more cancer. My bladder was back intact, and at 87 years old, I could finally say that I was cancer-free.

My children had been preparing for my burial, but God had other plans. Through it all, I held onto the belief that God would bring me through. My story is one of hope and faith, a reminder that no matter how dark the road may seem, God is always there, ready to guide us through to the other side.

THE SENIOR CONNECTION

The Senior Connection is an idea of Bishop Gresham. During the pandemic, he wanted to give seniors an opportunity to communicate with other seniors without having to leave home. We meet by phone every Thursday from 12:00pm - 1:00pm. During this time, we have praise time, scripture, opening prayer, song, devotion, words of encouragement, testimonies and closing prayer. Our seniors range from ages 55-92. Each senior is given the opportunity to participate in the program.

We have seniors calling in from New York, Georgia, Virginia, Washington DC, Greensboro, NC, Windsor, NC, Roseville, NC and South Carolina. Sister Theresa Jennings, one of the facilitators for the Senior Connection, connected with a 90 year old senior, who resides in a health facility, and gave her the opportunity to participate with us. Her name is Mrs. Jones and she is appreciative .

The Senior Connection would like to thank each and every person who has given of their time and talent to bless our group .

The call-in number is: 1(712) 432-0190 • Access code:274522#

God has this no matter what the report says! Whose report are you going to believe? Amazing Grace, how sweet it sounds, that saved a wretch a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind but now I see.

Thank you God for saving me. My Father in Heaven, I thank you for every waking hour and every single blessing. I am calling on you today to look upon all seniors. We need you each and every day. Again, thank you, Father, for all that you have done for us! Thank you for watching over us every hour of each day.

We thank you for wisdom and understanding that we will pass on to our children. We thank you for health. We pray that you give our doctors the knowledge that they need to care for us. We love and thank You for Your healing power. We trust and believe that You are and will always take good care of us.

Thank you Lord for hearing, listening and answering our prayers to You this day.

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.

Prayer for Church Family

Lord God Almighty, we come before you on behalf of the Greater Saint John Cathedral Church Family. First, we thank You for our Pastor, Bishop Kevin V. Gresham Sr. and ask Your continued anointing on him, Executive Pastor Kevin II and the entire Gresham Family.

Thank You that Greater Saint John is a Church Family of Disciples who have a genuine desire to worship You and serve to uplift the Kingdom of God. As we continue on The Year of Journey, give us the desire to go beyond the walls of the church building to seek and serve the lost to bring them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as Lord .

We give you praise and thanksgiving for the increase of new Disciples who have connected to this Ministry. We pray continually for a unified body of laborers serving one another on one accord and that there is no division within as we carry out the vision You have given to our Bishop.

We put our faith and trust in You, Jehovah Jireh, to provide through our giving of tithes and offerings the resources necessary to meet our present and future needs. Thank you for Greater’s administrative, custodial and technical staff, who serve diligently to make sure that the operational function of Greater runs smoothly.

We declare and make a statement of faith that You, Father God, are going to do GREATER things for our Church Family as we keep our hearts and minds on You alone.

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.

Prayer For Church

Father, thank You for the Greater Saint John Cathedral’s church family who are spiritually alive in You. We pray for continued strength in spirit, soul and body as we do your work. We thank You for Your continued answers to prayers by the church family for health, wholeness and salvation.

We thank you for Jesus’ concern to heal the sick in body, soul and spirit. He was also concerned and paid close attention to the minds and spirits in His healing ministry. For this, we are grateful and give You thanks in Jesus’ name

We pray for Your strength in making situational changes in our lives and Your comfort in difficult moments. We pray for divine protection for the church family and all their concerns as they travel and move about in this season in the safety of the Holy Spirit.

We thank You Father because You are all seeing, knowing and powerful. You are in control of all occurrences. Your Disciples have Your many blessings upon their lives in their continued endurance, perseverance, patience and overcoming power by the Holy Spirit to continue the Propagation of the Gospel.

Propagation of the Gospel:

Jesus Christ is the only foundation upon which the church is built and is grown. Jesus commissioned His Disciples to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). Father, we pray for church growth in the way you want it spiritually and in numbers, in love and obedience to the man of God who is the Shepherd of the Greater Nation.

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.

A Prayer from a Friend to a Friend

Our Father, I present to you my friend, my sister, who is in my heart. This is my prayer for her. Please help her to live her life according to Your will. Lead and guide her; renew her mind and her heart so that she will overcome temptations and any barriers or weaknesses.

May you position her in high places like an eagle. May she spread love and shine in dark places where it is difficult for others to reach. May she bring a word of love, healing and peace to others. Surround her, protect, and defend her.

Deliver her and her loved ones from hurt, harm and all forms of evil; physical, emotional or spiritual (seen and unseen). Keep any virus, danger, pain or disease far from her; may she heal fast without long side effects.

Lift her up when she feels weak as she goes about her daily tasks. May she feel Your presence and know with certainty that she is safe in your arms. Thank You Lord.in Jesus’ name

In the name of Jesus, I pray and say Amen.

Prayer for Marriages

Most wise and faithful God, we come with a grateful heart and rejoicing in Your grace and mercy. There is no one like You, Father God, to strengthen hearts and minds. We give You all the glory, honor and praise as we look to the hills from which cometh our help

As we go through this journey, we ask that You remind us of our vows and help us to stand together faithfully in our marriages. Holy Spirit, speak to our hearts regarding truthfulness in the Threefold Cord that joins us as one. Father God, (Ecclesiastes 4:12) tells us “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

What two can easily do is hard to be done by one. We pray for that married couples communicate and listen to one another and that they would have date nights. Don’t forget to take time to enjoy their marriage and not give up but pray together. Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

Remind each other why you choose to love, honor and respect one another as you pray together daily.

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.

Prayer for the Youth and Education

Heavenly Father, I believe Your Word is true. I believe that Your Word has power and there is power in our prayers when we lift them up to You in Jesus’ name. I pray for our youth and ask that You bless our children everywhere. Cover them in Your love and shield them in Your protection .

Father, I pray that You keep our youth safe daily in school, in their homes and wherever they are. Please strengthen them to turn away from guns and violence. Lord, please always bless and cover them in Your love and care. Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Lord, give parents the love, strength, courage and wisdom to train up their children to follow and acknowledge You as their God and protector and Jesus His Son and our Savior.

Lord, thank you for our education system and I pray that you bless and protect our youth and educators as they attend daily classes and jobs. Cover them, Father, with angels of protection and surround them in Your peace. Allow Your grace and mercy to follow them. Father, I pray that we remember that our education system not only covers worldly information, but that we are responsible for educating our youth in Your Word as well. You are a faithful God.

Your love is always with us, guiding us, keeping us safe and protected.

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.

Prayer for Government Workers

Dear Lord, we thank You today for life, health and strength. We thank You Lord for your Son Jesus who died on the cross to save us! Lord, we lift up all areas of the Government - Federal, State and Local and those in charge of laws, rules and regulations governing the lives of Your people. Lord our political structure is in disarray; however, we trust in You and Your word! Your word has commanded us to pray for those in Jerusalem and leaders in our Country! You know the challenges they face each and every day!

We come to You asking that You bless our leaders in Government. Please provide wisdom as they go about doing their jobs. Provide each of them with a state of mind to do what’s right and pleasing in Your sight. Help them to be servants to all people under their jurisdiction. I pray a hedge of protection for them and their families. I pray that they always operate with integrity. We lift each of them up to You God and we ask that you lead, guide and direct their paths to be responsible for those people You have made them stewards over!

Please guide them Lord to do what is right and pleasing in Your sight! Allow them to operate in integrity whether no one is looking or not! Allow the men and women of our Governments to have high moral character and high concrete values! Create in them a clean heart Lord and renew their minds to govern the people fairly! Lord keep their hands clean from wrong doing and their hearts pure to treat everyone with dignity and respect! We love you Lord and we are trusting in You to see us through in these last and evil days! We know You are soon to return Lord and we desire to be ready to meet You in the Heaven

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.

Prayer For Healing

Dear Heavenly Father Lord God Almighty, I come to You today thanking You for Your grace and mercy. Thank You for being Our Shepherd and loving us unconditionally, the Agape kind of love. Dear Heavenly Father, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart always be acceptable in Your sight, Oh Lord You are our Strength and our Redeemer.

Today, I’m praying for those of us who are sick and have been diagnosed with one type of sickness or another. We’re bringing our sickness to You because You are the one who created us in your image. Therefore, there is nothing on us, between the top of our head to the bottom of our feet, that You do not have complete knowledge of and know what to do to heal us.

Isaiah 53:5 reads “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of his peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.” We know that Your words cannot return void, so we’re thanking You in advance for healing our sisters and brothers .

Matthew 8:16 reads “when evening had come, they brought to him many who were demon - possessed. and he cast out the spirits with a word; and healed all who were sick.”

James 5:14 reads “Is anyone among you sick? let them call the Elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.”

Acts 14:9 reads “this man heard Paul speaking. Paul observed him intently, and saw that he had Faith to be healed.” Help us to increase our faith and allow our faith to fight for us in the name of Jesus.

According to James 5:16 “confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective reverent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Psalms 103 reads “bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name. bless the Lord oh my soul and forget not his precepts. who heals all diseases and forgives all the iniquities bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name.”

Thank You God for your promises and we will bring them back to your remembrance each and every day as we pray, meditate, praise and spread love. It’s in the matchless name of Jesus I pray and say,

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.

Prayer For Healing of the Land

Looking at the created order of our Father — “on the third day land was created” — Genesis 1:9-13 and Genesis 1:24-31 — “the sixth day man was created.” It is our responsibility as Disciples to always pray for the healing of the land. We have to unceasingly pray for healing naturally, financially, physically, socially, politically, spiritually, etc. We are occupants of this beautiful land We thank the Senior Connection for bring our awareness and remembrance to follow the instructions given to King Solomon, by our Lord of Host, when he inquired of Him for the method he should use when the land was polluted in all areas 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJK) says “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” This Old Testament scripture is fitting today for us to use when the land in which we live is faced with multiple problems and require us to address them to the Lord God Almighty for His healing.

Heavenly Father, we ask for forgiveness in all areas of our lives. We are your Disciples and we come humbly before You with this prayer request to heal our land, the United States, and all the people and the lands of the world that You spoke into existence on Creation Day. We penitently, contritely and apologetically bow humbly before You and ask for Your forgiveness for what we have done to Your land . We ask for restoration and restitution of Your land and Your people. Father, we pray for the governmental leaders here and abroad that You will give them knowledge, wisdom and understanding as it relates to the healing of your land and the grace that is necessary to fulfill the desires that You have for Your land. We are seeking Your face while we are waiting, being forgiving, humble, thankful, grateful and expectant to Your divine answers.

Father, we also pray for wicked ways to change and become righteous ways by the acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior among your people. 1 John 5:14-15 says “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we asked of Him.”

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.

Prayer For First Responders

Heavenly Father, today we call on Your Holy and Righteous name interceding on behalf of first responders throughout our Country! Each and every day, these individuals put their lives on the line to help others in times of emergencies and crisis. We lift them up to You Lord. We ask that You remember them and keep them safe!

Father God, keep all first responders safe in all situations and circumstances. Give Your angels charge over them while they are helping others, guard them in all their ways (Psalm 91:11) . Show Yourself strong on their behalf and be their guide and direction as well as their refuge and fortress in times of danger. Hide them in the shadow of Your wings and cover them with your feathers; let Your faithfulness be their shield (Psalm 91:14-16) . Bring back to their minds the training that they have completed concerning safety for themselves and others! Allow them to operate in integrity and safeness as they extend their hands to aid others!

We pray for them and their families in times of troubles, we pray for them in times of danger and emergency situations! Protect them from hurt and harm. Shield them from the fiery darts of the enemy and allow them to operate with clarity and wisdom in their decision-making! Allow them to trust their training and Your word as they help those in need!

Lord, please guide these men and women and equip them mentally, physically and spiritually to confront the scenes and scenarios set before each of them. I pray for strength and for Your guidance to each of them.

Guide their thoughts as they put their lives on the front lines to protect and ensure safety for others! Be their guide Lord and allow them to think clearly for all involved to bring about the best and safest end to each and every situation they encounter! Direct and order their footsteps and actions each day Lord and allow them to continuously and conscientiously do things that will honor You and give You glory as they protect others! In the mighty matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Savior!

Now Lord let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable to You, for You Lord are our strength and our redeemer

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.

Let's Eat

BRUNSWICK STEW

Brunswick stew recipe, This bold and flavorful Brunswick Stew is bursting with flavor from pulled pork, roasted chicken, corn, tomatoes and lima beans all in a tangy sweet broth seasoned with tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, and a perfect blend of spices. With already cooked meats this recipe comes together quickly and easily.

Directions

1. Heat oil over medium heat in a dutch oven or heavy stock pot. Add the onion and cook until tender; 5-6 minutes Reduce heat and add the minced garlic cooking for 1 minute while stirring constantly.

Ingredients

1 ½ tablespoons canola oil

1 large onion finely chopped

2 cloves garlic minced

2 ¼ cup low sodium chicken broth

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 can 14.5 ounce fire roasted diced tomatoes

1 ½ cups frozen corn

1 ½ cups frozen lima beans

¾ cup barbecue sauce plus more for drizzling

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 ½ teaspoons hot sauce

¼ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

⅛ teaspoon crushed red pepper

1-2 pinches of cayenne pepper

2 ½ cups pulled smoked pork

1 ½ cups cooked diced chicken breast or chicken thighs smoked or roasted

2. In a small bowl stir the tomato paste with 1/4 cup of chicken broth then pour it into the pot Add the remaining chicken broth, diced tomatoes, frozen corn, lima beans, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, ground black pepper, crushed red pepper, and cayenne pepper to the pot over medium-high heat . Bring to a low boil . Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes .

3 Add the smoked pork and chicken and let it simmer for about 5 more minutes If desired season the stew with salt and more pepper to taste . Spoon into bowls and drizzle with just a little bit more barbecue sauce.

Notes

• This is a go-to recipe for leftover smoked pork and roasted chicken You can use all of one or the other but I think it tastes better with both, You can also use different percentages of each.

• Other vegetables you might add include potatoes, butter beans, celery, and okra.

• The stew is a hearty meal in itself. However, if you are expecting company or have extended family over for dinner I like to serve it with coleslaw, cornbread, and Southern fried apples

• After spooning the stew into bowls drizzle with just a little bit of extra barbecue sauce. It makes a great presentation and a little bit of added flavor.

• Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
