A Message from our Bishop

The Adven T SeASon

Ihave always wanted to teach and share with our Church the meaning and significance of the Advent Season. This year, there is a particular correlation between where we are as a Church and the Season of Advent .

Advent is the Christian liturgical season that begins on the first Sunday of Advent. This year the 1st Sunday of Advent started on December 1 and will end on December 24 . 2024 . This period consists of four Sundays leading up to Christmas It serves as a time of anticipation and preparation for the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth

The four Sundays of Advent carry distinct significance:

1 First Sunday (Hope): Known as the “Prophecy Candle,” it symbolizes hope and anticipation for Christ’s coming .

2. Second Sunday (Faith): The “Bethlehem Candle” represents faith, reflecting on Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem .

3 . Third Sunday (Joy): Called “Gaudete Sunday,” the “Shepherd’s Candle” symbolizes joy, celebrating the imminent birth of Christ .

4. Fourth Sunday (Love): The “Angel’s Candle” signifies love, emphasizing God’s love through the birth of Jesus

Therefore, I speak over the Greater Nation the four concepts of Advent Season There will be Hope, an increase of Faith, Joy and Love over your life .

We, as a Church, will anticipate, prepare for and celebrate it!

A Message to Our Greater Family

Christmas is the time to be alone with God, read the Christmas story from His Holy Word and try to go back in your thoughts to the time when our Savior was born . Re-capture the joy that was in the hearts of all who had the faith to believe that this baby was the Messiah of Israel, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the Savior of all sinners who would believe in Him and seek His forgiveness .

Without knowing Him, without knowing the Christ of Christmas, you will never know what real joy and happiness this time of the year can bring Christmas is a day for us to remember God’s merciful love . Through Jesus, we come to know who God really is – He is Love . God’s love is extended to everyone, including the marginalized … and especially the poor and the homeless .

This Christmas, let us be mindful of those who are in need of our welcome – a family member, a friend, a co-worker, a fellow Disciple Let us make room in our hearts for forgiveness and love and reach out to those who are asking for them .

On behalf of the Jabez Ministry, we sincerely hope that the remembrance of Christ’s birth brings you much peace and hope . As we celebrate Christmas, the Jabez Ministry prays that God will continuously bless our Shepherd of the House, Bishop Kevin V. Gresham Sr ., Executive Pastor Kevin V. Gresham II and their entire family, friends and anyone connected to them . We extend these same wishes to the Greater Nation .

We would also like to give a special thanks to those who contribute to Greater’s newsletter, The Jabez Report .

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Finding Hope During Christmas After Loss

Greetings my Brothers & Sisters, I greet you with the love of Jesus

The holiday season, often filled with joy and togetherness, can be particularly difficult when we are grieving the loss of a loved one Christmas traditions and celebrations may now feel incomplete and the ache of their absence is magnified.

During this time, allow yourself to grieve while embracing the hope and love of Christ Lean into His promise that He is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) It’s important to acknowledge and validate our feelings We should allow ourselves to grieve and remember the loved ones we’ve lost. You might find comfort in sharing stories, looking at old photos, or engaging in activities that held special meaning for us and our loved ones .

We should surround ourselves with supportive family and friends or join a faith community that uplifts us . Create new traditions to honor your loved one; such as lighting a candle in their memory or sharing stories of them with others . Remember, it’s okay to feel a mix of emotions—joy, sorrow and hope can coexist . These activities help to integrate the memory of your loved one into your holiday celebrations which will make the season more meaningful and less painful . Remember, you are not alone in your grief . May the love and support of those around you bring peace and comfort during this holiday season . Hold onto the memories and know that your loved one’s spirit lives on in your heart .

For additional support, I recommend the little book by Bo Stern entitled “When Holidays Hurt: Finding Hidden Hope Amid Pain and Loss.” This book offers Scriptural truths to help you, or a loved one navigate the holiday season. If you find you still need more support, please consider registering for the class entitled “Surviving the Holidays” at holidays.griefshare.org This is a safe, encouraging event where people understand what you’re going through

As we all come together to celebrate Christmas, let this Christmas remind us of God’s greatest gift: the light of Jesus, who brings love, comfort and peace in our darkest moments

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I love you, but God loves you best.

2025 New Year Wishes to the Greater Nation

Brethren, I do not count myself to have [a]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

As we step into this new year, let us remember that we are not simply passive observers of time, but active participants in the story of God’s unfolding plan The journey toward our ultimate destination – a life lived in Christ – is not a race to the finish, but a steady, upward climb.

Each day is a fresh opportunity to embrace challenges while we continue to show the love and compassion of Christ through our commitment to God and our community service . Just as a mountain climber focuses on the next foothold, not the mountain peak, we must keep our eyes fixed on the small steps we take each day, trusting that each step will press us toward our goal .

We must:

• Acknowledge our past - Reflect on and learn from both triumphs and setbacks.

• Embrace the present moment - Live fully in God’s grace, cherishing the opportunities God provides today

• Anticipate the future - With hope and faith, press toward that “higher ground” of deeper faith, greater love, greater service and a more Christ-centered life .

The journey may be challenging, but with God’s strength and guidance, we can continue to ascend, reaching new heights of spiritual growth and experiencing the joy of God’s presence . Together, we can continue the journey to higher ground!

Happy New Year!

Who is The G.O.A.T.? “Greatest of All Times”

There have been many discussions about who is the “Greatest of All Times” (G .O .A .T .) when it comes to sports, music, etc ? Many debates have occurred related to who is the best basketball player - Michael Jordan or Lebron James? Based on the number of championships, I say Michael Jordan . It depends on the age of the debaters and their knowledge of basketball as to who they say is the basketball G OA T Often debaters go back and forth over who was the better singer/entertainer between Prince and Michael Jackson . I chose Prince hands down because he played several instruments and was so creative with his music Some people debate about whether Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson was the G .O .A .T . in boxing . I’m going with Muhammad Ali .

As we approach the Christmas Season, most people are excited about the material gifts that they will receive Children are giving their parents long lists with all of the things they want for Christmas . Adults are hinting around about the extravagant gifts that they hope a loved one or friend will purchase for them . However, when it comes to the G .O .A .T . or the “Greatest Gift of All Times”, I would choose Jesus over anything else. Even if someone gave me unlimited financial resources, houses, cars, etc ., I would say Jesus is the G .O .A .T to me because He never stops giving and He never expires . Jesus is always relevant and always in style Here are just a few examples of what we receive when we accept the gift of Jesus:

• We are justified by faith and have peace with God. (Romans 5:1) – Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

• We gain access to the Father and are allowed to stand before God in grace. (Romans 5:2) – through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[b] boast in the hope of the glory of God.

• We receive the love of God and the precious Holy Spirit. (Romans 5:5) – And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit., who has been given to us.

• We are reconciled to God. (Romans 5:10-11) – 10For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received.

• We are adopted into God’s family. (Ephesians 1:4-5) – 4For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5he[b] predestined us for adoption to sonship[c] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.

• We get redemption through His blood and forgiveness of sins. (Ephesians 1:7-8) –7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8that he lavished on us.

Let’s choose to accept and share the G .O .A .T . with all who will listen and receive the Good News all throughout the year but especially as we celebrate Jesus’ birthday

Recently, I have had to remove myself from discussions and spaces because I cannot and will not allow chaos, a mountain of worry, words of doom, things I have no control over and hopelessness to enter my spirit

In these uncertain times, I am grounded in the belief that God is in control and that none of what is happening in this Country or world surprises God Our Creator is Master! HE knows and sees all!

So in all of this, I find hope that lives will be changed for the better. There is something about the name of Jesus and I believe that people from all walks of life and from both sides of the political spectrum will learn to call on HIS name . The divisiveness of man will not have answers to their heart’s search for peace .

So do not get distracted by the noise you hear and the not-so-positive things you see for God is the light of the world (John 8:12) . God will get the glory and that’s good news!

Scripture: Exodus 14:14 – The Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace.

Whatdo I mean when I say it’s necessary? Sometimes we go through our trials and tribulations and ask God why us? God answers by saying why not? Then we ask Him why and He says no matter the situation, I can handle the battles that you face

Know that God has us . No matter what we’ve been through or are going through . Do not be dismayed when our daily routines are interrupted by something or someone and you never saw it coming None of us wants to go through; however, when we do, stand on God’s word . We must be patient . I know it’s hard to display patience when you are in the eye of your storm, but that’s when prayer comes into play Prayer and the reading of God’s word will give you the strength and stamina you didn’t realize that you had . Then you will sit back and say I didn’t know my own strength . When your storm comes, just know that we must trust God blindly because we walk by Faith and not by Sight God will fight your battles because everything we go through will build our Faith and Strength thus making us stronger.

Be Blessed.

I am A Cancer Survivor

I am Reginald Shelton and I am a cancer survivor . I was diagnosed in September 2017 I went to my primary care doctor for a check-up I told my doctor I was not going to the restroom regularly, so he sent me for a stomach scan . Everything was normal . He called me back and said I needed an upper scan . That was when they told me that I had a spot on my lung .

My primary care doctor referred me to a pulmonologist The pulmonologist ran a series of tests and I passed them all He said so why are you here? I said you tell me . He and my primary talked . Then he suggested surgery to remove it . I said if I was healthy, why have the surgery? He said because you are healthy, let’s remove it now instead of waiting until it gets bad—I said, ok . I had the surgery; they removed it, sent it out for testing, and it was determined that it was lymphoma cancer . My world was upside down! I prayed and talked to God and said, whatever I have to do to beat this, I am going to do it. My pulmonologist said that I had a lot of determination. I had some setbacks in recovery and had fluid in my lungs. The doctor said they had to remove the fluid. I asked how and they said with a needle. I told them when I came back, the fluid would be gone. I returned for the procedure, and they were amazed that they couldn’t find the fluid. I told them, I told you that God is good. He is a healer. I made a full recovery.

Four years later, my kidney started to fail My primary care doctor sent me to a kidney specialist She suggested I go back to my oncologist . That’s when I began chemo and infusion . Thanks be to God I am cancer-free! I still get regular checkups . My doctor told me to continue what I am doing . The doctor told me that if I feel that something isn’t normal with my body, please talk to my primary care doctor .

If I had not spoken to my doctor, I would not have known about the kidney cancer until it escalated Since it was caught early and with God’s grace and mercy, I am still here!!

Staying Focused

Hello, my name is Anthony Simmons, Jr , and I’m a 12th-grade student at PGCPS Online Campus I’m proud to share that I’ve maintained a 4 0 GPA across all four years of high school . I’ve achieved this through consistent time management, completing assignments on time and dedicating myself to studying I’ve also had the benefit of incredible support from my teachers and resource teachers, who’ve helped me stay focused and encouraged me along the way

I’m passionate about learning and especially enjoy English, math and health classes . I love how these subjects keep me engaged and challenge me to think critically and creatively Learning new material has always been something I look forward to, and I’m happy to say that the first quarter of this year has been going well—I earned straight A’s, which is a great start to my senior year .

I’d like to share with you some of my studying techniques. First, I set up a schedule and stick to it. I treated my home environment like a classroom, setting times to study for tests and do assignments without distractions . I turn off the TV, but I do listen to soft music which helps me concentrate. When school is over, I give myself a quick break so that I can be ready to continue doing my assignments. Then I go to Independent Study to complete my assignments On the weekends, I spend more time on my most challenging subject so that I can focus . I do one assignment on Saturday and I do another on Sunday . This helps me stay ahead of my schoolwork so that I don’t fall behind . Now that I have a shorter schedule, I am able to complete all assignments and study .

I am the recipient of the Epsilon Phi Boule Scholarship, which is a program created by Sigma Pi Phi . I received this for my academic achievements .

Looking ahead, I’m very excited about going to college and continuing my education I’m eager to explore new opportunities, meet new people and dive into subjects that interest me even more .

Thank you and I appreciate your time

God, we love You If we had 10,000 tongues, we could never thank You enough for all that You have done, are doing and will do for us

I’m here to let everyone know who is reading this prayer, that He is your only hope to bring you through .

Thank You, God You are our Father Without a doubt, we’ll make it through whatever we are going through You made us and You’re not going to let us suffer. There is so much I can say about the goodness of the Lord. All I ask is that everyone have faith, and just keep saying to yourself that “God is with me and whatever I’m going through God will see me out

We ask these blessings in Jesus’ wonderful and matchless Name . Thank You Sweet Jesus . Glory be to Your Name .

In the name of Jesus, we pray and say Amen.
