ome! I am Tammy See ling. OEL is a full-service residential and light commercial AC company serving not only Riverview, but the entire Hillsborough County area…we help make up the GREATER section of GRCC.

After serving GRCC for 14 years, our CEO, Tanya Doran, recently resigned. It will be hard to replace her – she added so much value to our Chamber –but we are working vigorously to fill the seat with the best possible candidate for our community.

To achieve that goal, we have posted the vacancy on Indeed. We have also pushed the opening to our social media outlets and various Chamber affiliations. We believe we are stronger together, so if you have any recommendations, please refer them to any of those channels which will provide the link for Indeed.

In 2023, as a Chamber, our goal is to continue to add value for all member/investors -

Follow us on
2
Stay informed of the latest Chamber news and happenings

· Continuing with our favorites: the Annual dinner, the weekly TCOB meetings, the 2023 Annual Golf Tournament, and of course our Monthly Investors’ Luncheons, to mention a few.

· We are adding a stronger presence to our Government Affairs Group in the creation of the Business Growth Committee. In an effort to support our investors, this committee will seek to make an impact on conveying timely information to investors on the economic development within our community that directly impacts our individual business retention and expansion goals, and our workforce development.

· We are excited about a new program – the Leadership Program – still in the development stage, and is not a replica of an existing program, but rather something that fits the unique needs of the community. The Leadership Program is something in which I am personally involved with hopes of creating a program that benefits local small businesses looking for guidance beyond the first 5 years of business operations. Again, it is new, still in development, and looking to fill the needs of our investors by adding value to business members who participate in the program.

As a personal goal this year, I’d like to get to know more of you. I like hanging out with people who think big and are willing to not only act, but share those big ideas. Chamber members who take responsibility to help solve some of the biggest challenges our community faces are people I want to know. They are willing to be vulnerable, but that vulnerability often reveals barriers to success, and they become the machine that not only overcomes, but thrives. I hope that is something you can understand and want to be a part of; there is room for everyone, and I personally invite you to get involved.

Thank you for your time and investment within not only our Chamber, but also this community. If there is anything I can do for you, please do not hesitate to reach out.

GRCC Presents "A Vale

This year’s Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) Annual Dinner was A Valentine’s Soiree, offering an elegant evening of dining, dancing, and the exciting presentation of the 2022 Business of the Year and individual awards that are announced each year. The Businesses of the Year winners are presented in three categories: organizations with 5 employees or less, organizations with up to 25 employees, and organizations with over 25 employees. The individual awards include Ambassador of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Citizen of the Year, and a Shining Star. The judging process for this year’s awards were expertly handled by SCORE, an independent agency who conducted a detailed application and interviewing process of the applicants for this past year.

The emcee for the much-anticipated event was Jackie Barron, Public Affairs Manager for The Mosaic Company, who led the festivities throughout the evening. Current Board Chair Tammy See of OEL Heating and Cooling chose the evening’s theme, a Valentine Soiree, which was held at The Regent in Riverview. The grand ballroom was beautifully decorated by Craig Beckinger, An ABC Event, along with many GRCC members who decorated their tables to participate in the decorating contest. Winners of the contest included 3rd place winner, OEL Heating & Cooling; 2nd place winner Four Paws Veterinary Hospital; and the 1st place winner, the table of Heather Michael – Crissy’s Hair Salon and T & J Painting, decorated by Bill Andrew of Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale. Music and audio/visual for the evening was provided by Ian Davis of IDVES Audio Visual Solutions.

Three Reasons to join the Chamber in a Time of Economic Uncertainty

Times of economic uncertainty don’t cause anyone to look for new ways to spend money. But there are some investments in your business that even when you’re worried about cash flow, are worth the return. Without those necessities be they software or services you couldn’t operate. Chamber membership is one of those necessary business investments and here’s why:

Uncertain Times Mean Unprecedented Business Challenges

According to a survey released in early January by the National Association for Business Economics, more than half of respondents believe the U.S. is headed toward a recession in the next 12 months. An additional 11% of those polled think the economy is already in a recession. (A recession is commonly defined as two consecutive quarters of shrinking growth). However, the severity and depth of the possible recession are matters of debate among most economists and market experts. Whether we face a recession or not, growth is slow. Costs are up. Shelves are not as full as they once were. Some industries are already claiming a recession has hit them. In times of economic uncertainty, businesses have greater needs than usual. It helps to have a partner looking out for your best interests. The chamber is in a unique position to provide that assistance for a minimal investment.

The Hidden Job Market

One of the reasons economists are slow to call what we’re in currently “a recession” is because the job market on average remains strong. Employers are hiring. Sometimes their hiring needs are even outpacing available, skilled candidates. Through chamber membership, you receive two types of job assistance help in finding positions and candidates. If you’re looking for a job, you can network and locate available opportunities in the hidden job market (before they come available). Membership helps you get to know hiring managers and business owners, making a job search much easier and improving your chances of finding your dream job.

In The Know 33

In The Know

On the other hand, as a hiring entity, you will be in a solid position to get to know potential job candidates who aren’t actively looking for work. This is often one of the easiest ways to find top performers. Plus, connecting with possible job candidates on a professional level outside of the office can assist you in getting to know them better than you would through a 30-minute interview. This helps to ensure a stronger hire and better fit for your organization.

Public Sector Assistance & Advocacy

Whether you have your eye on pro-business legislation or are worried about a zoning issue, like anything else, business often goes your way based on who you know. As a chamber member, your concern over business your own or the entire business community—is amplified. When the chamber speaks to city, state, or federal leaders, they are speaking on behalf of all businesses. This gives your concerns more power among elected leaders. The chamber may also be able to help by placing your request in context in the larger picture. The zoning problem you’re having isn’t just about your business property but all properties moving forward. The chamber is well-suited to propose “if, then” scenarios that can help you get the assistance you need quickly.

Economic Development

While economic development of the area may not seem like a pressing issue in your mind right now, it helps keep you in business, regardless of your industry. A strong local economy can help maintain prosperity even when the national economy is struggling like the minority-business owners did along Auburn Avenue in Atlanta in the 1930s. While the rest of the country was experiencing the dark crash of ’29 and subsequent depression, Auburn Avenue thrived because its interests were protected. The chamber is dedicated to building community and ushering in smart economic growth so everyone can thrive. Chamber membership not only safeguards your business interests and helps you achieve your own goals but improves the business community, and thus the community, for all.
