As we step into November, I’m filled with excitement for what this month represents: the start of our “Small Business Season.” From November 1st to December 31st, we’re celebrating the heart and soul of our community—our small businesses. This initiative isn’t just a campaign; it’s a heartfelt reminder of the importance of supporting those who enrich our lives and neighborhoods.
Think about the feel-good holiday movies we love; they often feature small business owners pursuing their dreams. There’s something undeniably magical about these stories. They remind us of our own cherished holiday memories—whether it’s sipping a decadent hot cocoa from your favorite café, gathering with loved ones at a beloved restaurant, or finding that perfect gift at a local shop. These moments are woven into the fabric of our community, creating traditions that bring us joy year after year.
Small Business Season is a time to reflect on the choices we make as consumers. When you shop local, you’re not just purchasing a product; you’re supporting dreams, livelihoods, and the passion of our friends and neighbors. In fact, research shows that $.68 of every $1 spent at a local business stays in our community, compared to only $.43 when shopping at a national chain. Each dollar spent at a local business has a ripple effect, helping to create jobs, boost our local economy, and foster a sense of connection within our community.
As we embark on this season of giving, I encourage you to explore the unique offerings our local businesses provide. Discover one-of-a-kind treasures at boutiques, indulge in delicious meals at family-owned restaurants, and treat yourself to relaxing spa treatments or engaging workshops. These experiences create lasting memories, not just for you but for everyone involved.
Throughout this season, keep an eye out for special events and contests that will showcase the creativity and spirit of our local entrepreneurs. We want to hear about your favorite small businesses! Share your experiences on social media, leave positive reviews, and help spread the word about the amazing places that make our community shine.
Remember, every purchase you make at a small business contributes to a vibrant and thriving community. Let’s come together to show our appreciation for the hardworking individuals who pour their hearts into their businesses.
This holiday season, let’s embrace the magic of shopping local. Timeless treasures and cherished memories are just around the corner—together, we can make this Small Business Season truly unforgettable.

Since its humble beginnings in 2013 as a onechair operation, Tucker’s Barbershop has grown into the premier barbershop in Grants Pass. Today, it boasts a team of 14 talented barbers, offering more than just haircuts. Customers are treated to a vibrant atmosphere featuring a candy machine, free popcorn, locally made root beer, and even beer and wine for adults. With a foosball table and live sporting events on TV, Tucker’s has become a community hub where great grooming meets fun.
Owners Jeff and Laurel Tucker are deeply rooted in the local community. Jeff moved to the valley in 2002. After decades in the building supply trade, he followed his passion for entrepreneurship by becoming a barber. Together for 31 years, the Tuckers are proud parents of seven children, grand-
parents to 15, and have one great-grandchild. Their oldest grandson, Nik, proudly works alongside them at the shop.
Tucker’s Barbershop is more than just a business; it’s a true community partner. The Tuckers give back in numerous ways, supporting local events and nonprofits such as Kaden’s Kids, Hearts with a Mission, and Sparrow Clubs. Recently, Laurel coordinated the Rex on the Rogue event, where runners dressed in T-Rex costumes raised over $10,000 for local families battling cancer.
Next time you’re in need of a haircut or just want to relax, visit Tucker’s Barbershop and experience the warmth of a community-focused business that truly cares.

Throughout the past 10 months, we have celebrated the Chamber’s 100th anniversary, revisiting cherished community memories and historic milestones. In this segment, we turn our focus to the Chamber’s oldest standing committee, the Ambassadors. Established in 1985, this committee was the Chamber’s first formal group dedicated to community outreach and member engagement, laying the groundwork for future committees like the Legislative Affairs committee, which followed in 1990.
It was in this pivotal year of 1985 that the Chamber formed the Grants Pass Greeters group, with 48 Charter members. It was from this networking-focused group that a special committee of “Ambassadors” was developed.
The first member to hold the title of “Wagon Master,” a role denoting leadership within this special Ambassadors group, was Raleigh Chinn. A longtime Grants Pass resident, Chinn was a passionate advocate for the community, involved in organizations such as Toastmasters, Caveman Kiwanis, and the Rotary Club of Rogue Gateway, as well as various housing support initiatives in Josephine County.
R: 1994 Chamber Ambassadors; BR: Groundbreaking of the Chamber Visitor Center; BL: Joe Browell and Vera Quimby, longtime Chamber members - Vera was a longtime Ambassador also.
Excerpts from The Jefferson Journal, Feb 1985
The Ambassadors were easy to notice in their smart blazers that denoted them as volunteers for the Chamber. Today, the Ambassadors committee is composed of business leaders—owners and company representatives alike—who volunteer their time to support Chamber events, ribbon cuttings, and outreach to local businesses.
Historically their involvement has extended beyond these duties; Ambassadors have represented the Chamber in sports events, charity fundraisers, conventions, political forums, and even legislative outreach at the State Capitol, often collaborating with other Chamber committees to advance community interests. And although the blazers have been changed to uniform polo shirts, vests or jackets, the attitude of service and support of the community is still foremost.
The following photos offer a historical look at Ambassador activities, from ribbon-cutting ceremonies and groundbreakings to capturing moments of community spirit at local events. Ambassadors have always been, and remain, the heart of the Chamber, dedicated to supporting businesses and fostering a vibrant local economy.

With a busy summer, our Young Professionals enjoyed a nice evening of networking and learning about Competitive Athletics many offerings for our October Quarterly Social. Dylan & Alexandra did a fantastic job hosting our group and covering the many facets of this local business. While many of us think Competitive for athletic shoes and sporting supplies, they also provide custom -designed apparel for teams and corporate needs, whether it be screen print, heat press or embroidery. They also offer a batting cage and golf simulator.
Such a cool space and to make it even better, Jordy from Wild River Brewing showed up with an array of delicious pizzas, spuds and salad. The night was complete with custom craft brews and sodas courtesy of Wild River. Our group is so thankful for these continued partnerships.
For November, we will be doing our Quarterly Trash Clean-Up for Adopt-a-Street on the 7th and then hosting a Professional Development Panel Discussion on Fundraising at the Hivve on the 19th. For event information and registration, please visit our Community Calendar at www.grantspasschamber.org.
