The countdown is on for all of the holiday fun! My three-year-old son can’t wait for Christ mas! It is all he can talk about now.
Over the next few weeks, Grants Pass will become alive with events for the entire family to enjoy. It all kicked off on November 26 with Shop Small Business Saturday continuing till Christ mas with Rogue Winterfest, Holiday Bazaars, Nutcracker performances, Christmas parties, the Holiday Tree Lighting downtown and more! Check out our community calendar for all the events! www.grantspasschamber.org/events
Of course, your local Chamber of Commerce will also be joining in the season with our Window Decorating Contest, Operation Joy, Josephine County Food Bank Barrel, Toys for Tots collection box, shop local promotions and this year we are participating in the CASA Giving Tree.
We also know it is a very busy shopping season. Our local businesses are geared up and ready to serve you. I strongly encourage everyone to make sure to shop local this holiday season. Check our local stores instead of online. A lot of the local businesses offer more specialized, unique gifts and add bonuses such as gift wrapping, gifts, and more.
We are so lucky to live in a community that takes great pride in the holidays. As you participate in the festivities, please remember to shop local and support our amazing local businesses.
Almost a year ago, our Thrift Store suffered a flooding in December 2021. Due to a clogged water drain and heavy torrential rains, our whole build ing was flooded. From extensive property and inventory damage, to a great loss of revenue, and placing employees on a Leave of Absence. We had to close the Thrift Store to assess the damage that had been done and begin the restoration process. Sadly, this was devastating because it happened right before Christmas.
Thankfully, much of the repairs had been com pleted and we were able to have a grand re-open ing on May 31st, 2022! This was a celebration because our Thrift Store had opened back up to our community and we proceeded to move forward, towards bright er days!
Today, we march right into the Christmas Sea son, once again, to make the holidays brighter for the service and needs of our community. In doing so, we are call ing on the help of our community to volunteer a couple of hours in bell ringing this Christmas Season. Not all heroes wear capes! Many, wear volunteer aprons, while raising the needed funds to meet the practical needs, of folks in our community. “The Givers sometimes Need Help themselves” and this Christmas Season, we need your help!

Partake offers our customers an unparalleled experience encompassing choice, convenience, high quality, and value in a crowded space of traditional single-option enterprises. In an area connected for ultimate hospitality, patrons can choose a wine and cheese option from the shops and consume it directly in our well-appointed lounge space.
They will soon include an exclusive dining venue with a multi-course Chefs menu featuring artistic presentations of locally sourced eclectic offers. The dining space options include fully private dining rooms, semi-pri vate rooms for up to 8 friends, and a shared space to accommodate large groups for parties or celebrations.
They carefully choose the cheese and accouterments in our cheese shop for their unique qualities, wine-pairing abilities, classic favorites, and soon-to-be-discovered favorites. You can create your charcuterie board for onsite enjoyment or devour it with friends at home.
The wine shop carries over 500 choices that range from bright, lively whites and festive bubbly to subtle reds continuing with big, bold blends and classic reds. Wines are carefully curated to select varietals, vintages, and production methods, highlighting the country, province, or individual AVA.
The lounge offers privacy with heavy floor-to-ceiling curtains dividing seating spaces but the flexibility of sliding aside to combine areas for larger gatherings. The lounge features craft cocktails curated by our experienced bar staff, using local fruits and herbs. Enjoy carefully curat ed entrees and small plates featuring farm-fresh ingredients from our lo cal farmers market. House-made is the mantra, from pickled vegetables, mustards, sauces, and pate to house-baked bread and baguettes.
Partake’s owners, Scott and Patti Hillier, are passionate about providing joy and opportunity through their varied endeavors. Their goal is to provide venues for patrons and future friends to enjoy while providing stable employment and business opportunity for team members and partners.
They started their hospitality focus with their Scopa Properties venture on the Northern California coast in 2015, offering multiple prop erties to cater to that perfect short getaway or needed renewal. A partner ship soon followed this in a restaurant on South beach to provide more comprehensive dining options for guests. There was also a need to revive the Surf rental and lesson opportunities on the famous North Coast, and they could partner with a young entrepreneur to fill the void.
Partake was born out of the desire to have a space in Grants Pass where people could come and learn about wine in a non-pretentious at mosphere. Wine and food have long been an obsession for Scott, who en joys sharing his experiences and love for wine. The opportunity to offer the community a space where they could gather for fine wines at reason able prices and cheese to pair was too hard to resist, and thus Partake was born.
Partake continues to evolve to be the preferred spot for, obviously, wine and wine activities, offering a Wine club, wine, and cheese pairing classes, unique wine tastings, and special dinners. In addition, with the casual lounge space and the soon-to-open Fine Dining space, it is the hope that their friends and community can have a warm, fun place to enjoy throughout the year.

For November, our Young Professionals held their Quarterly Professional Development at Hampton Inn on the topic of “Tourism”. The new Executive Director of Visit Grants Pass, Tori Middelstadt gave a great overview of what tourism is and what it looks like here in our region. Her presentation went into de tail about the Lodging Tax, what a visitor is, as well as what draws visitors to our community. Having moved here just over a year ago, Tori has done an amazing job of collecting data, marketing, creating strong part nerships and outlining a plan to keep visitors coming year-round. Her goal is to ensure our tourism indus try is robust while keeping that small town charm that we all know and love. Along with her board, Tori has a solid vision of what is needed for steady and sustainable growth.
Our next event will be our Ugly Sweater Christmas Party on December 8th from 5:30pm7:00pm at Weekend Beer Company. Prizes will be awarded for the Ugliest Sweater. Proceeds raised at this event are to benefit the Josephine County Food Bank. To learn more about the Young Professionals Network, contact Christie Swafford at cswafford@grantspasschamber.org. The Asante Three Rivers Medical Center Auxiliary is an amazing group of volunteers who have fun together, serve at the hospital, and organize several fundraisers throughout the year. It’s a great way to serve your community.
Auxiliary fundraisers help purchase new medical equip ment for the hospital and provide scholarships for our youth volunteer high school students. In the past 15 years this energetic group has raised more than $550,000 for ser vices at Asante that benefit patients and the community.
In 2016, the Auxiliary presented the hospital with a check for $92,000 for eight Liko Lifts, which are ceiling-mounted units used to lift and transfer patients safely. In 2020, they gave the hospital $50,000 for the Emergency Department expansion, and in 2021 they donated $18,000 for wheel chairs.
They also play an important role at the hospital, where you’ll see these dedicated volun teers:
• Give free blood pressure checks
• Escort patients throughout the hospital
• Operate the Thoughtful Things Gift Shop
• Sew pillows for patients Provide coverage at the:
• Family Birth Center visitor desk
• Hospital and outpatient center information desks
• Emergency Department
• Surgical Services Department
• Pre-Op Clinic
• Spiritual Care
The Auxiliary also has fun. In 2022 they participated in Boatnik with a Star Wars themed float.
Asante Three Rivers is fortunate to have this engaged group of people helping our community. We encourage you to be on the watch for upcoming Auxiliary fundrais ers and to visit the hospital’s gift shop for unique items and holiday decor.
