Psalm 95:1-6 (KJV)

O COME, LET US SING UNTO THE LORD: LET US MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE TO THE ROCK OF OUR SALVATION. LET US COME BEFORE HIS PRESENCE WITH THANKSGIVING, AND MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE UNTO HIM WITH PSALMS. FOR THE LORD IS A GREAT GOD, AND A GREAT KING ABOVE ALL GODS. IN HIS HAND ARE THE DEEP PLACES OF THE EARTH: THE STRENGTH OF THE HILLS IS HIS ALSO. THE SEA IS HIS, AND HE MADE IT: AND HIS HANDS FORMED THE DRY LAND. O COME, LET US WORSHIP AND BOW DOWN:

Psalm 100 (KJV)

“MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE UNTO THE LORD, ALL YE LANDS. SERVE THE LORD WITH GLADNESS: COME BEFORE HIS PRESENCE WITH SINGING. KNOW YE THAT THE LORD HE IS GOD: IT IS HE THAT HATH MADE US, AND NOT WE OURSELVES; WE ARE HIS PEOPLE, AND THE SHEEP OF HIS PASTURE. ENTER INTO HIS GATES WITH THANKSGIVING, AND INTO HIS COURTS WITH PRAISE: BE THANKFUL UNTO HIM, AND BLESS HIS NAME. FOR THE LORD IS GOOD; HIS MERCY IS EVERLASTING; AND HIS TRUTH ENDURETH TO ALL GENERATIONS.”

Psalm 107:1 (NIV)

“GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD, FOR HE IS GOOD; HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER.

I Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)

“BE JOYFUL ALWAYS; PRAY CONTINUALLY; GIVE THANKS IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, FOR THIS IS GOD’S WILL FOR YOU IN CHRIST JESUS.”

Keep Pressing

Ten months of this year have passed and is behind us now. Along with it have also passed some disappointments, some heartaches, some ups and some downs. In spite of what has already happened this year, all is not lost. We still have plenty to be thankful for. We are to forget those things which are behind and keep pressing forward. We have to stay strong and keep the faith. As we look back over these last ten months, I’m sure we all can say that God never left us alone; and if we stay strong and keep pressing the Bible tells us that God will never leave us or forsake us.

Life is full of trials and tribulations and there have been many things that happened and did not happen this year that could have wiped us out. But we are still here. We are still here because God is in control. God is in control of everything that concerns us, and God cares about everything that concerns us; and for that alone, we should have an attitude of gratitude.

I have discovered that while God is on our side, He has also equipped us for this journey. God has provided us with tools to help us make it through the journey. So now we just need strength for the journey. We can draw our strength from the Word of God. The Bible teaches us that we get strength from the Lord in a number of ways. There are three that I would like to point out . . . prayer, patience and perseverance.

Prayer. Prayer changes things and the Word of God tells us that, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16

Patience. Patience is defined as the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. “But we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope”; Romans 5:3-4

Perseverance. Perseverance is persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up on wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

We can obtain strength for the journey by always holding on to God’s unchanging hand and trusting and

EPPS

believing in His promises through His Word. With ten months already gone, I will agree that it is very difficult to hold on to what you were believing God to do in your life this year. I’m sure you remember all the declarations you made New Year’s Day full of hope and expectations. But if we hold on and faint not, we will see the salvation of the Lord. We have to remember that God is able to supply all of our needs. God will take care of us and He will not forsake us. God will not fall short on His promises. If we remain faithful to Him, He will be faithful to us. God has not forgotten you nor is He worried about this year that only has two months left to go. God is still able to do exceeding abundantly above all you could ever ask or think.

So, I encourage you to not throw in the towel on this year, because suddenly God can turn things around, suddenly God can do a new thing, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

Q&A Interview- Overseer Tobias A. B. McCain

G&G: Overseer Tobias McCain, we are delighted to introduce you to the Grace & Glory Family, and to be a part of your 3rd Pastoral Anniversary at New Birth Church. Congratulations! Would you walk us through the journey and the vision of New Birth Church?

Overseer McCain: I am beyond delighted and privileged to be able to share with you. I am grateful to God for allowing me to reach this three-year milestone in ministry with the New Birth Church. The journey started in November 2019 upon the passing of my beloved aunt who was the founding pastor of this work of the Lord. The church started in May 2007 under the leadership of the late Apostle Shawna Branch who was a fireball for Christ. She took ill and transitioned due to cancer. At her demise, the church seemed to be about to fold; however, Church Mother Ida Fliggins asked me if I would be willing to come assist the ministry and assume the role of leadership. After much prayer and time spent with the Lord, he confirmed to me that it was His will for me to assume the role of leadership.

It was not an easy journey; however, it was designed and orchestrated by God for me to lead this work of the Lord. New Birth Church had approximately five members. First, I was hesitant about going over to the ministry. After eulogizing the founding pastor, the following Sunday there was a meeting and the membership voted. Three members voted "yes" and two voted "no." Eventually, I assumed the role of Senior Pastor and led the congregation with a small number of congregants. The Lord blessed the church. Within my first year of pastoring, numerous souls were saved and baptized, babies were dedicated, and unions were brought together all to the glory of God. God blessed us to go from five members to surpass 60 plus members by March of 2020. It was in this moment that it was evident that the hand of God was upon my life and this ministry. The vision of New Birth is to reach the lost and empower believers to embrace their God-given abilities. We are a church where a stranger finds a friend and a sinner finds the Lord.

G&G: Overseer McCain, I understand you also pastor another ministry, tell us about this special assignment on your life and how you manage pastoring two churches?

Overseer McCain: Absolutely! I am currently blessed to

also serve as the Senior Pastor and Overseer of Holy Mount Zion Temple Church right here in Baltimore, Maryland. I also am blessed to cover a ministry in North Carolina and Dallas, Texas. In regard to my local assignments, on Easter Sunday of 2022, the Lord allowed our paths to cross with the Holy Mount Zion Temple Church. The church was founded by the late Bishop Joseph Mitchum who started this church in 1963. It is such a historical and foundational church in our city. Holy Mount Zion was a church affiliated with an organization for many years. However, after the passing of the founding pastor, the church went through a transitional period that led to them withdrawing from its organization. During this transitional period, several local members left the church, and many other things took place. Mother Edith Mitchum, who is the Co-Founder of the church, met with me and asked if I would be willing to come and serve the remainder of the congregation. After proper revisions and having an official board meeting, I was elected to serve as its Overseer and Servant Leader.

What a joy it has been to serve both ministries. I am honored that the Lord has chosen me to serve His people. New Birth and Holy Mount Zion are two separate churches with two separate identities. However, both churches are focused on the same thing: winning souls to the Lord Jesus, evangelizing and reaching the lost, empowering the believer to live an effective life and equip each one to use their Godgiven abilities to the Glory and honor of God. Our weekly service schedule for both ministries are as follows: Holy Mount Zion Temple Church has Sunday School at 9:00AM followed by Morning Glory at 9:30AM. Weekly Bible Class is on Tuesday Night and Prayer is at 6:30PM followed by Bible Study at 7:00PM. Services for the New Birth Church has Sunday School at 12:45PM followed by Intercessory Prayer at 1:15PM with our Worship Encounter at 1:30PM. Weekly Bible Class is on Thursday Night and Family Altar Prayer is

at 6:30PM followed by Bible Study at 7:00PM with classes for all ages. It is my endeavor to continue to build the work of the Lord and grow these branches of Zion to be all that God has called us to be.

G&G: Overseer McCain, what have been the most rewarding accomplishments you have experienced thus far in your threeyear journey at New Birth Church?

Overseer McCain: What a great question. I would say it has been the most rewarding accomplishment seeing my generation return back to God. For some time, I have watched my generation leave church with no desire to return. While, yes, not all of them left the church, but we must be honest and say the majority has left. Also, I must say that many of them leaving was not centered around the pandemic. However, many of them felt distant from our assemblies prior to there ever being social distancing. I saw the church put emphasis on local leaders focusing on their personal gain pertaining to positions, titles and elevations while failing to see the young souls drifting away. Better yet, that young person is the person being robbed of simple life activities because church leadership made it mandatory for their parents to attend church events that they would honor over their children's sports activities. There are many things that can be classified as "simple things" to the older generation, but it is desperately imperative for this generation. The generation we serve in this hour is not concerned about who is the head deacon or chief adjutant, conventions and/or conferences. They are in need for a "hands on" leader to help them navigate through such treacherous times. I vowed to God that I would serve as a bridge builder. My assignment is to allow the seasoned saints to know that they are not too old to be used by God and that the younger generation is not too lost that they cannot be used by God. I stand and believe in the doctrine of holiness, and it is my

assignment to speak up and cry out against sin.

Of course, there are many accomplishments that I can say I am excited about...especially seeing a congregation of five people grow to a place of true harvest. We are just in year three with over 200 souls on roll. We have been blessed to dedicate 30 babies, unite over six unions and baptize over 40 souls. To God be the glory for this is just the beginning.

G&G: Overseer McCain, many ministries have closed their doors and pastors have walked away from their churches. Pastoring two ministries, have you asked yourself the question, what have I signed up for? Have you ever wanted to throw in the towel?

Overseer McCain: God knows that this has been a journey. I often tell pastors that many of them have had the opportunity to at least experience Palm Sundays, Good Friday Services and even Easter Sunday worship experiences. However, my journey of pastoring started at the end of 2019. By March of the following year, churches were closing down due to the pandemic. During my first year of pastoring, I wasn't able to have in-person Palm Sunday, Good Friday and or Easter Services. It was during this same season of 2020 that one of my cousins, who was like a brother to me, was murdered in the streets of Baltimore. The day after putting him in the ground, I received one of the most difficult calls that I, still to this day, wish I could reverse. While going into my office at the New Birth Church on June 17, 2020, at around 3:20PM, the call came that my nine-year-old niece, Kaiel McCain, had committed suicide. What a hit it was to walk into University of Maryland Hospital to see and then touch my baby girl's cold body. She was more than just a niece to me. She was more like a daughter. Till this day, it hits hard, but God gave me the strength to eulogize her and navigate my family through this dark season.

It was at that point that I realized, in a short period of time, that pastoring is more than the Sunday Morning glory worship experience. All in the same year of 2020, I am dealing with the

10 November 2022 Continued from page 9 Q&A
New Birth Church

pandemic, losing my cousin, losing my niece and still trying to cope with the pain of losing my aunt who was the founder of the New Birth Church which I had to eulogize. Later in 2020, God allowed my path to cross with the best thing that ever happened to me. I was blessed to share the Word at a one-night revival in which I was blessed to meet Tamara McKnight, a beautiful young woman of God. After sharing the Word that night on October 7, 2020, I was able to get to know her and develop a relationship which led to me proposing to her on December 20, 2020. After a year full of pain and disappointment, God allowed me to connect with the greatest blessing before 2020 could end.

Just as it seemed to get better, God blessed me to marry my amazing wife on March 13, 2021. While away on my honeymoon, I did not know that my father would take a turn for the worst. While preparing to share the Word, for my first in-person Palm Sunday Worship Service that morning, I received the call that no child wishes to receive. My father transitioned and went home to be with the Lord. That was one of the hardest things I have ever had to deal with and would not wish that feeling on anyone. After eulogizing my father, it was at this point that I felt like it was just too much, and I was weighted down. Trying to adjust to losing my niece, serving as a new pastor and now a newlywed was a weight. From a pandemic and tragic loss, and while other ministries were closing, we kept our doors open and never missed a service. I thank God today that He gave me the strength and grace to get through.

G&G: Overseer McCain, most pastors have shared that “preaching the gospel” was not what they had planned for their lives. Was it the same for you, did you have other dreams and aspirations for your life?

Overseer McCain: Well, for me, I have always desired to be who I am today. The call of God has been on my life since birth. As a child, I would often play church with my siblings and demand that they spend time with me in worship. As a

child, dressing up in my church clothes was the highlight of my day, while finding the nearest remote control or hairbrush to use as a microphone was my norm. My yearly request during Christmas was to receive a karaoke machine. I was destined by God to carry the work of the Lord and be who I am today. As a child, one of my family members watching me shook me until my ribs collapsed. After that, I began to have seizures. Needless to say, one Sunday as a child while in church, I was shouting and passed out. I had a seizure and actually died in church. My pastor at the time, the late Bishop David Washington Spann, Sr., laid his hands on me and asked the Lord to breathe on me. Life came back into my body. Since that day, I have never had a seizure again. I have always desired and dreamed to be a full-time pastor to help and aid the people of God.

Of course, as you stated, many people would not say that; however, for me, this has been me since birth. I must insert here that I thank God for my great grandmother who taught me and raised our family in holiness. If it was not for her, many souls would not be saved and know God. I am blessed to be living in my dream: leading two congregations and covering other ministries. In the midst of serving, I am currently employed as the Case Manager and on-staff Pastor for the Brooks Clinton Funeral Service, P.A.

G&G: Overseer McCain, where would you like to see the ministry of New Birth Church in the next five years? What will New Birth Church do in the future to impact the community?

Overseer McCain: It is my desire to see the church grow to be able to relocate to another facility that can house our needs for mentorship and youth entrepreneur programs and to open up a children and adult daycare to assist low-income families. My desire is to simply help reach the next generation while also catering to the needs of the current generation and caring and aiding our seniors. No soul left behind I am

envisioning a program to assist victims of molestation and other forms of sexual assault, and drug and rehabilitation programs to help persons clean their lives up. Within 5 years I endeavor to strengthen the local ministries in our ministry while yet birthing sons and daughters to pursue their abilities in God. All members aren't called to preach however I want to see the nurse practitioners, lawyers, barbers, beauticians, poets, schoolteachers, dental assistants, etc., all become who they are and use their gifts and talents to the glory of God.

As we embark upon great things with my amazing wife CoPastor Tamara McCain by my side, we look to build God a house and reach our community by developing programs that can meet the current needs that we are facing. Our ministries must be centered around more than a good praise break and hot song on social media outlets. The real impact of the local church should be displayed in the community that the church serves throughout the year. Very soon we have some amazing news to share concerning the vision and new direction God is leading us towards. As I always say everything God has for you it’s going to be BIGGER, BETTER & BRIGHTER!

G&G: Overseer McCain, are there any special plans to celebrate your 3rd Pastoral Anniversary at New Birth?

Overseer McCain: Yes, I SAY! I am so happy that I will have sharing with us two persons who are dear to me. On Sunday, November 13, 2022, at 3:30PM, my dear friend and brother, Reverend Brent A. Brown of the Greater Harvest Baptist Church will be in fellowship with us. We are anticipating a high time in the Lord. It is always a powerful time when the Harvest and New Birth comes together. On Sunday, November 27, 2022, at 4:00PM, my dear uncle and episcopal leader, Bishop Carl A. Pierce, Sr. of the Carter Memorial Church of Baltimore, will be sharing with us in Word and worship as he preaches the culminating message for my anniversary. I am so happy to simply celebrate another year of the favor of God. Services will be held at our Holy Mt. Zion Temple Church location, 1201 N. Monroe Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21217. Let me also plug in that on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at 3:30PM, we will be celebrating the 59th Church Anniversary of the Holy Mount Zion Temple Church with Bishop Bryant Martin sharing with us in worship.

G&G: Overseer McCain, would you share with us something that most people would be surprised to know about you?

Overseer McCain: Most people often say that the things I do in ministry seem so natural. However, I am nervous every time a microphone hits my hand. Also, I do not eat leftovers, none whatsoever. So, pray for Lady Tamara. You can only imagine how dinner conversations go in our home.

G&G: Overseer McCain, who would you say has had a tremendous impact on your life?

Overseer McCain: This question alone can take up a page by itself. However, there are some names that I feel is imperative for me to share with you. First, my amazing great grandmother who brought our family into the holiness church, Mother Rebecca McCain. I wanted to just pause and salute her for she is the true wind beneath my wings. There are several other people, but I would be remised if I did not mention a few other names such as Darryl T. Barnett (father), Denise Barnett (mother), Cher McCain (mother), Mother Joyce Barnett (grandmother), Apostle David & Lady Jo Burton (godparents), Apostle Jekia & Pastor Chris Ledbetter (godparents), Deacon Eli and Minister Clydia Cofield (godparents), Bishop William & First Lady Hope McMillan (Spiritual Father & First Lady), Bishop David Washington & Mother Lucille Spann (childhood Pastor & First Lady) as well as the many aunties and uncles that I have all over the world who have afforded me countless opportunities to share the Word of God with them and their congregations. Lastly, I honor and bless God for blessing me with my amazing wife who is beyond a jewel; she is the epitome of class, sophistication and elegance. She is one who embodies the grace of God in my life. I salute and appreciate Co-Pastor Tamara Joy McCain.

G&G: Overseer McCain, lastly, what advice would you give a young person who is wrestling with the call on his or her life and has the desire to start a ministry?

G&G: Overseer McCain, my last few questions are for you personally, how would you describe yourself in three words?

Overseer McCain: That, sometimes, is hard for me to do. Sometimes, I can be my worst critique. However, I would say that I am "Committed, Compassionate and Crazy." I just love life and love people. I enjoy making people laugh. While being around me, there will never be a dull moment.

Overseer McCain: My brothers and sisters: please make sure that your call is the call of God. Pastoring has nothing to do with you, but everything to do with others. If you find yourself wrestling with the call, be patient and make sure you hear God. Always remember that when God speaks, it settles you. Most importantly, do not be ignorant of the fact that everyone who starts with you will not always stay. Even realize that launching out will cause you to meet enemies that you will never even know were so close. However, be not dismayed and know that God is on your side. Sometimes, much of your personal finances has to go towards many things as you start out. However, do not look at it as a loss. More so, you are investing in the work God has given you. Lastly, I will say this because, honestly, I can talk about this all day. Simply put, be you and allow God to build you as He desires. We do not need any more clowns and or clones in the Kingdom!

Facing The Holidays

It’s that time of year again. The Hallmark Christmas movies are queued up, people are shopping for Thanksgiving dinner, and the toy and gift advertisements are in full swing. All of these bring joy to many who wait with anticipation for the seasons to change and welcome the food, festivities, family, friends and fun. For some this is a difficult time because they may not be feeling thankful or joyful due to life circumstances that have left them in pain and doubting if they have the strength to make it. The loss of a loved one, unemployment, health challenges, family tension, self-doubt and poor choices have many people struggling to be present and engaged

during the holidays. Loneliness is something many faced before the pandemic, and this is still a challenge as some people have not resumed social gatherings. With this set of circumstances, some have found themselves facing another holiday alone. The “most wonderful time of the year” as the song lyric says can also be the most draining and depressing time for those who may not be in the mood to celebrate.

Facing the holidays requires those who may be struggling, to have a plan to get through the days and weeks to come. Reach out to others and see if they can assist in making this time more peaceful and encouraging. Or you be the one to invite

a newly separated, divorced or widowed person to your family gathering. Take this time to start new traditions that are meaningful, attend plays, concerts or other cultural events and give back to the community by volunteering. Getting out with others who share your values will help overcome the sadness and anxiety that you can sometimes experience during this time of year. Many churches offer worship services and holiday celebrations, community organizations are sponsoring events and they are gathering safely to celebrate the season. You can get through the holidays and face them with confidence, when you make plans, get out of your comfort zone, explore new traditions and connect with others.

Don't Forget The Joy

My sister-in-law makes the best salsa. My other sister-in-law is the queen of mac and cheese. My mother-in-law makes amazing pasta salad. And I am famous for a butternut squash enchilada casserole that will turn you into a vegetarian. This time of year, invitations to gatherings often include a request for you to bring that dish you make that everyone loves.

My mother was an incredibly generous woman. She sent handwritten notes and birthday cards to everyone. She never missed an opportunity to bring a hostess gift to a gathering or a small token of love to a lunch date. She taught me to never show up empty handed and the importance of having at least one dish or dessert that you make well so you will always have something to contribute.

You can’t bring what you don’t have.

I am embarrassed to say that more than once my husband and I have wasted way too much time driving around a town we are unfamiliar with looking for an open store to pick up the items we said we’d bring on a holiday where stores closed early. We committed to bringing things we didn’t have at home and assumed we could just swing by and grab it on the way. It takes thought and preparation to contribute. In order to prepare the dish everyone is craving, you’ve got to spend time gathering the ingredients and carve out the appropriate time to make it.

Whether we know it or not, we bring a whole lot more to a gathering than our famous dish. We are carriers of the Good News! We are Joy Bringers - that is, if we are intentional. You can’t bring what you don’t have! We can also be bringers of a whole lot of other things. Holiday gatherings are already full of complexities so here are a few suggestions to prepare and save yourself from the added stress.

Clean your glasses

The way we perceive situations dictates how we approach them. If we perceive that the environment will be tense and full of strife, we will raise our defenses and strengthen our attack strategy. But if we adjust our vision to see the situation through the lens of the love and grace of God, we will walk in humility and patience, surrounded by His victory.

Our lenses are spotted. We see through a haze of history which is often painful and complicated. So, before you go, ask the Lord to give your lenses a good wipe down. Ask God for a holy and righteous vision of your family. Not only will your eyes sparkle, but those you see will look shiny and new, the way Jesus sees them.

Put on your peace shoes

Ugly Christmas sweaters, sparkles and suits, or your favorite sports

team apparel, the holiday dress code can vary. But one of the seasons must haves is the shoes of peace. The apostle Paul gives this wardrobe command in Ephesians 6:15, ”For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.” When we intentionally put on peace shoes our feet are prepared to walk into any environment protected by the peace that passes all understanding. They are wrapped in the good news of hope, goodness, and freedom that the world desperately needs. Put on your peace shoes, they are the perfect addition to whatever outfit you choose to wear.

Don’t forget the joy

Don’t forget to bring joy! Not the kind that you swing by and grab on the way. The kind you fill in the deepest parts of your heart. Lasting and infectious joy isn’t available at the nearest open grocery store. It’s the kind that is only found in the presence of the Lord. Our joy tanks are filled by proximity and time. And here’s the best part, in the presence of the Lord is found both joy and strength (1 Chron 16:27). Just like we allow time to prepare, marinate, baste, and cook the main course, we need to carve out time for the joy of the Lord to fill and strengthen us. When we are intentional to fill up our joy tank, we will be sure to not only be powered by it but have plenty to give away. Joy is the dish that is sure to make your holiday gathering extra special!

Warning, not everyone may partake Who doesn’t like chocolate?! My best friend. I don’t get it, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying heaps of my favorite milk chocolate morsels. As a joy bringer, one thing I have learned is that my joy is sometimes offensive to people. How? The enemy likes to whisper to people, “that’s so fake,” or “you could never be that joyful.” Joy can be misunderstood and rejected but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t belong. Jesus was full of joy and brought it everywhere he went. People’s disbelief or outright rejection didn’t stop him. In my experience those who struggle to accept it often just need time. Because joy is loving and lasting it endures and remains available for all people (Luke 2: 10). So don’t fret if others are skeptical or even outright question or reject the joy you bring. I didn’t like Brussel sprouts most of my life, now I can’t get enough!

As you spend time shopping for gifts, cooking for many, and preparing your home and wardrobe this holiday season, I bless you to put even more focus on bringing the Good News that brings great joy to all people and have a joy filled holiday season!

Joyfully,

Stress Less Starting NOW!

Even though stress is not normally considered a mental health problem, I do believe according to www.Mind. org, that stress is connected to our mental health in several ways. Remember, stress is layered. It affects us mentally, physically and emotionally. As you know stress can cause mental health problems, and it can make existing problems worse. As a certified stress management coach, when thinking about mental health and how to stay serene in turbulent times, we cannot forget about how stress affects us.

According to a study at www.MentalHealth.org, 51 percent of adults that felt stressed reported feeling depressed, and 61 percent reported feeling anxious. Of the people that said they had felt stress at some point in their lives, 16 percent had harmed themselves and 32 percent said they had had suicidal thoughts and feelings. Just because a person is dealing with stress doesn't mean something is wrong with them. What is important is how we handle stress and replace bad habits with better ones.

It is important for me to help individuals alleviate stress because I believe everyone has been created for and in purpose. I want to see men and women maximize their full potential and embrace their purpose without feeling unworthy. I don’t want stress to stop you from experiencing those wins and victories in life.

When I had poor stress management, I experienced insomnia, anxiety, hair loss and unhealthy fluctuations with my weight. One scripture I kept close to me during that time and even now is Matthew 6:34 that says, “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Not only did I depend upon this scripture, but also, I implemented some life changing stress relief techniques, and I want to share them with you too! It’s time to stress less starting NOW!

One simple way to relieve stress is get sun before 11 a.m. This is important because it will increase levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that affects our mood, cognition and memory. When serotonin is increased, we are more focused, creative and a joy to be around.

A second way to relieve stress is to give and receive hugs, because they are so powerful and an immune booster. They also help to reduce stress and decrease depression, so start hugging.

A third way to relieve stress is by speaking affirmations

that shift our energy and mindset to see the bigger picture instead of focusing all our time and energy on the situation we are going through. It helps to see the rainbow through the rain.

When thinking of stressing less, try increasing endurance. When we have bad habits, it weakens our endurance and our ability to be effective. It is dangerous to bottle up stress. What people may not understand is that we can look good on the outside, but we also feel things happening inwardly. When we know that something isn’t right, our heart is having palpitations and shortness of breath, and we are not sleeping well—that is a layered effect. Taking care of yourself and your mental state is a serious matter.

Stress in the black community is also high! There are so many things that we have to face in our communities, and there are times in which we feel like we are alone, we are isolated, and we’re the only ones going through it. Or we have this ego or pride that tells us even though we know we need to reset or reach out and ask for help, it’s like I’m superwoman or superman.

One of the things my mother, grandmother, and auntie would say is, “It takes a village to raise a child”, but it also takes a village for a community to thrive. One of the things we must do is ask for help and know that it’s OK, it doesn’t make us weak or incompetent. We have to be open to receiving, sometimes that’s hard for us because we’ve had to work so hard to get the things that we have. We also have to be open to various professions of people that can aid and provide help and resources — whether it’s a life coach, a therapist, or a counselor. We have to be able to talk to someone, open up, feel safe, and be flexible in our ability to give and receive.

So, my question to you is what stressors are you dealing with currently? Remember, when alleviating stress, the goal is not how well you can multitask, but do you have healthy habits and routines in place to deal with stress. Take care of your mental health, including the stressors in your life!

Empowered to E.A.T.

It’s your time! You are empowered to E.A.T. Empowered to E.A.T. simply means that this is the season for you to Enter Anointing Time. It is time for you to receive the blessing God has for you. It is your time to reap the harvest God promised you. He has prepared a table just for you for divine dining and has anointed your head with oil (Psalm 23:5). That means you are ready to gain access to His Kingdom benefits and live the blessed life that He ordained for you.

God wants to lavish you with the lion’s share, the biggest and best portion. Get ready and empowered to E.A.T. Enter in, let Him anoint and bless you, and believe that this is your time.

Enter in. You made it through the seasonal shift. You experienced harvest time. You reaped the benefits from the seeds you sown. Now it is time to E.A.T. You prepared and readied yourself for this moment when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and asked Him to come into your life. You knew you were entering into a time of your life in which the Holy Spirit would lead and guide you to ensure that you took full advantage of the blessings God gave you. You entered in and accessed His Holy Spirit that empowers you to stir up the gifts (2 Timothy 1:6-7) that He has blessed you with and live the best days of your life.

The anointing is on you. This simply means that God favors you. He has set you apart and has given you unique gifts and talents that only you can use to live a blessed life and be a blessing to others. Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has

sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” (Luke 4:18-19 TLB). Jesus knew he was anointed and on assignment. You should too. God told you He knows the plans He has for you (Jeremiah 29:11) and has shared them with you by placing them down in your spirit and speaking to your heart. His anointing is on you. His anointing allows you to go forth, make moves, manifest, and eat the fruits of your labor.

Timing is everything. God always moves at the appointed time and is always right on time. God always knows the perfect time and will move in your due season. When Samuel anointed David to be the next king of Israel (1 Samuel 16:13), David didn’t take the throne right away. Research suggests that David was between 10-15 years old when he was anointed. He didn’t start walking in his anointing as king until he was 30 years old (2 Samuel 5:4). He was still anointed, and he was still king, but it wasn’t his time for the moment he was anointed to walk out his calling. Let the Lord lead and direct your path and He will empower you to E.A.T. at the appointed time.

As you gather this month with family and friends for Thanksgiving and jumpstart the celebration of your Savior’s birth, designate divine dining dates with Him to enjoy His presence and be empowered to E.A.T. Enter anointing time. Find time to break bread with Him. Meals with your Master matter most. Taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8). You are empowered to E.A.T.

TogetHer

was to cheer each other on no matter what. I remember my sister and I auditioned for a solo in the choir and she got it. I was devastated because I had practiced for that solo and I knew that I was going to get it and not her. When it was announced that she received it I initially cried and found no happiness or congratulatory words for her. I immediately ran to my mother, and I wept in her arms. Once I finished my mother asked me did I congratulate my sister. I told her that I hadn’t. She continued to share with me that her victory is my victory and that they go hand in hand. She shared that I should apologize for not congratulating her and then congratulate her for a job well done. I didn’t want to do that either because I was hurt, and I didn’t want to celebrate her success.

Rhoda

TURNER

Last month I hosted a Women’s Conference entitled TogetHer and the purpose of this conference was for women to build each other up. At the conference one of the speakers talked about getting the Her inside of you together. Before you go and get Her. That statement provoked a thought or a change in direction. It can be difficult to cheer someone on when you have self-doubt or other issues concerning yourself that you are dealing with, which can make it difficult to help build someone else up. The Bible tells us that 1 Peter 2:24 NIV, ““He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”” It shares that Jesus died on the cross for us. By the stripes he bore for us it healed us from any sickness and disease. Disease is anything that causes you dis-ease. If there is something in your life that is causing you disease know that He died for that too.

I was raised in a home with six 6 biological sisters and many other women that my mother had housed, some for a few days and some for years. Those ladies became my sisters. One of the things that my Mom instilled in all of us blood or not

Sometimes that may be how we all feel. But what allows us to celebrate each other is getting Her together and coming to realization that her success is my success, I should comfort her when things are down, and I should be able to celebrate her when times are up. “God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.” Psalms 46:5 NIV . God got you and will keep you. In life sometimes we may feel misunderstood and alone. But understand that you are not alone. God’s got you and we have each other.

Psalms 133:1 it says, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” As women and sisters in Christ we are to be in unity not fighting or bickering but uplifting and loving one another. We aren’t to look like the world. We are to resemble Christ.

In John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

I find great pleasure in supporting my sister and cheering her on. Because I know that if she wins I’m next to win.

Flu Vaccines

Fall marks the beginning of flu season. Medical providers and pharmacies urge individuals to get an annual flu vaccine. What is the flu vaccine, and why is it important to get vaccinated?

Influenza, or the "flu," is a seasonal, upper respiratory infection caused by the influenza virus. Flu season typically starts in October. It peaks in mid-to-late winter, between December and February, and continues through early spring. The influenza virus is easily passed from one person to another through direct contact with secretions. Frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue, and social distancing help to reduce the transmission of flu germs.

Vaccines against influenza, often called "flu shots," protect against four types of influenza viruses that researchers predict will be most common during a yearly flu season. The viruses that cause the flu constantly change. Researchers and manufacturers work together to update the vaccine every year. The vaccines contain inactive particles of the flu virus. Your body will produce antibodies that will fight against flu infections. The specific types of viruses contained in an annual shot depend on which viruses are likely to circulate during that year's flu season. It takes up to two weeks to build immunity after a flu shot.

immune systems, and those with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, COPD, and heart disease. The flu vaccine is recommended for individuals living in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Healthcare workers, law enforcement, and others that work closely with the public are also advised to get annual vaccinations.

Vaccinations are usually given by injection. Nasal vaccines, administered by inhaling a spray like nose drops, are available for children and people less than 49 years old. Side effects from the vaccine include pain at the injection site, headache, chills, and feeling fatigued. The flu vaccine does not give you the flu. It does not increase your risk of getting Covid.

Flu viruses mutate and evolve quickly. Last year's vaccine may not protect you from this year's viruses. New flu vaccines are released yearly to keep up with rapidly adapting flu viruses. Protection from the flu may last six months after receiving the vaccine.

The CDC recommends annual influenza vaccinations for everyone aged six months or older. Vaccination is especially important for people at high risk of influenza complications, including pregnant women, older adults, young children, people with weakened

Unfortunately, you can get the flu even if you are vaccinated. You may be exposed to a flu virus shortly before getting vaccinated or during the period that it takes the body to gain protection after getting vaccinated. This exposure may result in you becoming ill with flu before your body develops antibodies to protect you. Many different flu viruses circulate every year. You may be exposed to a flu virus that is not included in the seasonal flu vaccine. Getting the flu vaccine reduces the spread of influenza in the population. The ongoing impact of the Covid virus makes it essential for you and your family to get vaccinated for the flu if you have a chronic illness. You can get a flu vaccine at multiple locations including your doctor’s office, health departments, and pharmacies. Talk with your healthcare provider about receiving a 2022-2023 flu vaccination.
