1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
⁵ You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, ⁶ nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
⁷ A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
⁸ You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
⁹ If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

God Is Still In Control
No doubt, if we were to look at all that has transpired, one might ask the question, “Who is really in control?”
What if we look at the state of the economy of this nation in which we live. What if we look at the devastating housing crisis. And what if we look at Wall Street and the rising unemployment. How about if we take a look at the number of people who don’t have adequate healthcare. And if we turn the page then there is the rising crime rate, wars, rumors of war, and all of the unrest in the world today. If we look at all of these things collectively, again the question may rise, “Who is really in control?”
Before we get in a panic over these things and throw our hands in the air in despair, we need to remind ourselves just who we are and whose we are. We are the sons and daughters of the Most High God (Galatians 4:5-7). Our God is bigger than any of these things. He is omnipotent. He sees all and knows all. God neither slumbers or sleeps. There is nothing that has happened or will happen that God is not aware of. As believers we live by the principals of God and His assurance that He will always be in control. Being a believer, we live by the promises of God. God has made us some promises that let us know beyond a shadow of a doubt, He is still in control.
Deuteronomy 31:8 – “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Isaiah 41:10- “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Psalm 46:10- “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
In times like these, I will agree that it is very difficult to hold on to what you believe when we are living in unprecedented times. We are all living through trials and tribulations that cause some anxiety. And all we hear coming from the news media are discouraging reports. But the word of God tells us, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

So, if we hold on and faint not, we will see the salvation of the Lord. We have to remember that God is able to supply all of our needs. God will take care of you, He will not forsake you. God will not fall short on His promises. If we remain faithful to Him, He will be faithful to us. We can take comfort in knowing that we belong to the Lord . . . and GOD will always be in Control.
I leave you with this, “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

Q&A Interview - Rev. Dr. Greggory R. Maddox
Pastor, Faith Baptist Church, Baltimore Maryland
President, United Baptist Missionary Convention & Auxiliaries of the State of Maryland Inc.
G&G: Pastor Greggory Maddox, welcome to Grace & Glory Magazine, it is an honor to talk with you about The United Baptist Missionary Convention and Auxiliaries of the State of Maryland, Inc., of which you are President. Let’s start with introducing everyone to The United Baptist Missionary Convention & Auxiliaries of the State of Maryland Inc. Who is the Convention and what is its function?
Pastor Maddox: The United Baptist Missionary Convention and Auxiliaries of the State of Maryland, Inc, (UBMC) is a 99-year-old organization headquartered primarily in Baltimore with regional representation in the four regions of the State of Maryland. It was formed by the merging of the Colored Baptist Convention and the Cooperative Convention. In 1926, at a meeting held at Shiloh Baptist Church, Rev. D. G. Mack was chosen as President. Today our primary mission is to revolutionize the ministry, create new pathways and partner with Maryland Baptists to find the best solutions for various situations that may come up with our ministry churches.
G&G: Would you share with us what inspired the founding of this organization 100 years ago? What is the core mission and vision of The United Baptist Missionary Convention and Auxiliaries of the State of Maryland, Inc?
Pastor Maddox: Approximately 100 years ago the state of Maryland was experiencing the aftermath of World War I as well as the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904. The founders of this Convention saw the need to galvanize and unify the black churches that supported the various communities surrounding Baltimore. Its early mission as it is now was to be a strengthening agent, a supportive agent, as well as a consistent partner in developing the local church to be the best in kingdom building it can possibly be.
G&G: Pastor Maddox, in addition to being the President of The United Baptist Missionary Convention and Auxiliaries of the State of Maryland, Inc., would you also tell us something about yourself?
Pastor Maddox: I am a native of Pontiac, Michigan. I am a double graduate of Virginia Union University having received a bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I hold a Doctorate in Ministry from the United Baptist College and Seminary. I am also the proud Pastor of the Faith Baptist Church in East Baltimore, Maryland, with 47 years in Ministry and 39 years in Pastorate. I am married with two sons and one daughter-in-law.
G&G: How many member churches are currently part of the UBMC? How does the convention support its pastors and leaders spiritually and practically?
Pastor Maddox: Currently, UBMC is the parent body to approximately 130 churches located across the four (4) regions of Maryland. Of the 130 churches affiliated with the convention approximately 90 churches support the various auxiliaries and initiatives of the convention. The Convention’s primary objectives are to provide training and education for the work of Pastors and Laity in the work of the Kingdom of God, promote Christian missions, promote Christian Education through the word of God, promote local, national and international evangelism, and seek to meet the needs of mankind whether it be addiction, homelessness, abuse, etc. Most of all we promote the promise of showing love toward each other and loving their neighbor as thyself.
G&G: Pastor Maddox, what were some of the most significant challenges UBMC faced in its early decades? And what challenges does the Convention face today?
Continued on page 10
Rev. Greggory R. Maddox, his wife Valorie and sons Brice and Joshua
Pastor Maddox: The Convention having been formed almost 100 years ago, has weathered the Great Depression, the horrors of Segregation, the Advancement of our Civil Rights and most recently the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. The Great Depression represented economic hardship. Segregation represented oppression, and the Pandemic represented the health crisis. Just as in years of old, the Convention of today still faces many of those same challenges. When elected president in 2022, my platform has been based on the theme RESTORE. The platform was structured around economic transparency and solvency, reclamation of churches and establishment of programs that provided outreach engagement and opportunities throughout the various communities.
G&G: In what ways does the UBMC engage with the broader community—both locally and globally? Does the UBMC partner with international or ecumenical organizations?
Pastor Maddox: On a local level the various auxiliaries of UBMC (Women’s Auxiliary, Layman’s League Baptist Congress of Christian Education and Generation Now) has fostered numerous relationships with local schools, businesses and advocates to improve the health and welfare of neighboring communities. Nationally, UBMC is a member Convention to the National Baptist Convention, USA Inc. The National Convention is the nation’s oldest and largest African American religious convention. UBMC supports the national convention in their initiatives such as Congress of Christian Education, Laymen and Women’s ministries, and foreign missions in and about Africa, the Caribbean, and Central America.
G&G: Pastor Maddox, in today’s changing cultural and religious landscape, how has the Convention’s approach to missions and evangelism evolved over the years?
Pastor Maddox: The Pandemic, as you are aware, vastly changed how society interacts with one another, it has dramatically increased personal need and unfortunately separation from in-person worship. UBMC and its member churches continue to maintain an active presence and commitment to neighboring communities. For the past three years we have held several social and empowering events such as food and clothing giveaways through our local churches. We’ve held a yearly neighborhood community “Evangafest” in an effort to evangelize to local communities throughout Baltimore City by providing household items, medical screening and more importantly assisting people to become active, consistent and visible members in a local church.
G&G: Does the UBMC involve youth and young adults in the work of the Convention? What steps are being taken to ensure the next generation continues the mission?
Pastor Maddox: Generation Now is the auxiliary that supports our youth and young adult ministries. Membership is open to young people, ranging in age from 4-40. Their mission is to provide statewide engagement, fellowship and ministry through song, theatre, and liturgical dance. Through our State-Wide Institute, Generation Now members can
participate in classroom and online learning focused on understanding the bible and leadership development.
◆ ◆ ◆
G&G: Pastor Maddox, let’s shift to your role as President of the UBMC. You have been leading the convention for 3 years now. How has your personal faith been shaped or strengthened through your work as president these last 3 years?
Pastor Maddox: During my presidency I have seen the power of God to move the membership to be embracive of the RESTORE platform and become a more collaborative entity.
G&G: As you reflect on the past 3 years, what has been the most rewarding part of your leadership/involvement with USMC?
Pastor Maddox: September 2024, UBMC was host to the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. Our team of over 300 volunteers hosted over thousands of churches and 9,000 delegates. In addition to hosting the national convention, through the RESTORE platform we have eliminated generational debt, increased member church enrollment and community engagement.
G&G: Pastor Maddox, what have been some of the most significant challenges you’ve faced as leader? How has the convention grown or changed under your leadership?
Pastor Maddox: Again, my platform RESTORE was created to strengthen and unify the convention. Over the course of these past three (3) years we have successfully completed the mission, and I look forward to seeing what will come in the years ahead from the new leadership that has been elected to serve the various auxiliaries of the convention.
G&G: What are some upcoming or current missionary, outreach programs or initiatives the UBMC is working on that you’re particularly excited about?
Pastor Maddox: The future building of a new Maryland Baptist Aged Home. Our Aged Home presently occupies our building on Raynor Avenue in Baltimore City. The facility is functional and due to advances in the Senior Care Field a new facility is greatly needed.
Our Convention has created The Coalition of Clergy and Community Leaders seeking Social, Economic and Educational Change. The focus of this Committee is to formulate and implement various strategies that will educate and empower many who are a part of our convention as well as those who are not. This committee will work alongside community leaders to make impactful decisions that affect federal state and local policies.
G&G: Pastor Maddox, what legacy do you hope to leave as a leader?
Pastor Maddox: Approximately 29 years ago I was elected to serve as the Pastor of Faith Baptist Church located in Baltimore City. Prior to my coming to Faith Baptist, I served several churches in Virginia. My desire has always been and will continue to be recognized as a servant leader, here to be of service not to be served. I try to model this in my daily life in and out of the church.
G&G: Pastor Maddox, lastly what message would you like to share with the members and/or potential members of the convention?
Pastor Maddox: I, along with the officers and members of the UBMC, are here to be of service to you as stated in Matthew 20:26-28. We are interested in spreading our Convention Membership to encompass all who are interested in laboring for the Kingdom of God come and join us in our labor. Amen!

Mental Health Is Wealth
July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. This month honors the legacy of author, advocate, and trailblazer Bebe Moore Campbell by recognizing Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Moore Campbell’s ability to tell impactful stories highlighting themes of racism, mental health, and family left a lasting mark on this world and is a foundation for much of the work that continues in support of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) (mhanational.org).
Mental health has been a hot topic for the past few years especially with the covid-19 pandemic heightening the awareness of anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation with an increase in attempts especially for Black youth. Mental health is wealth because our minds govern our actions. Proverbs 23:7
says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he” (NKJV). Our thoughts can lead us to make choices that can impact our mental health which in turn impacts our lives overall.
We are in a pivotal moment when we can share the importance of mental health and its impact on every area of our lives. We must start talking about mental health more openly in our homes, communities and churches. Breaking the silence around mental health can lead to conversations that lead to healing.
We can no longer afford to sweep these issues under the rug or say that our community does not struggle with mental health because we address our concerns at home. What we now know because of more people speaking up is that some people lived in homes and with families that were abusive and sometimes this resulted in mental distress over time.
Mental health is wealth because if our thoughts, behaviors and actions lead us into more harmful situations than helpful ones, we ultimately may have long term effects. Depression, anxiety and stress impact our blood pressure, blood sugar and the ability to fight infection. Our minds are powerful and need to be treated with care through proper rest, nutrition and exercise. All these lead to a healthier mind and body.
These are building blocks for good mental health along with adequate and safe housing, a livable wage and a loving support system. Remind yourself that prioritizing your mental health is just as important as making sure your medical health is addressed. “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well”, 3 John 1:2 (NIV).

What is Framing You?
Rhoda
TURNER
When I was a little girl I remember my mother always choosing her words intentionally when she was talking with her children. I can’t recall ever hearing her yell at us even when she was chastising us. I don’t even recall her calling us out of our names either. Considering there were 10 of us, I’m sure she must have mixed our names up. Whenever one of her children needed a spanking, my mother would first talk to us and explain exactly why we were getting the spanking. Then, we would have to go to the Word of God, and we would look for a Scripture that best represented the action we committed. For example, if one of us was caught lying we would have to go to the Bible and find a scripture regarding what God had to say about lying. Before we got the spanking we would have to read the scripture and reflect on what the Word said. Then we would pray and ask God to help us. After thoroughly going through the Biblical process as laid out by my mother, then we would get a spanking.
As a child I truly didn’t understand why we had to go through all of that just to get a spanking, and as an adult, I have to admit that it took me a while to fully grasp it. However, I can appreciate what she was doing. Recently, I was in service, and while my husband was preaching a message it clicked. It finally made sense why my mother did what she did all those years ago.
In Hebrews 11:3 it says, “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” My mother was framing us with the Word of God. She didn’t allow us to dwell on the infraction, but she showed us how to repent so that whenever there was a time where we needed to come back to Christ we were equipped with the necessary tools to come back. Also, she allowed the Word to shape us. What people sometimes forget, or maybe some were never taught, is that your words hurt. What comes out of your mouth can change the trajectory of someone else’s life, including your own.
So what are you framing? In Genesis the world was framed by God and then Adam. When God created the world He used His voice and spoke those things into existence. When the animals were created God gave Adam the authority to name them, and with those words the world continued to be framed through Adam.
We have the same power and authority because we are heirs of the Father. Our words have the same ability to create and frame our lives resulting in a better outcome. Watch what you say. Watch the words you speak. Be intentional with your word choice, because what you say is framing your outcome. If you don’t know what to say, look into the Word of God and find a Scripture that you can reference so that what you are framing will be formed correctly. Be encouraged that if you find yourself in a situation where you have framed your world improperly, all is not lost. You can go to His Word, repent, tearing down that old frame work and begin to rebuild with fresh words.

The Secret Sauce
In the motivational speaking industry, there is a term used called “the secret sauce.” It’s a great way to pique the interest of individuals to help solve their problems and create an excitement for solution-based results. The “Secret Sauce” is usually actionable steps that you can make applicable to your life almost immediately.
As a minister, mediator and motivational speaker, I want to share the “secret sauce” with you on what we as Christian disciples must do in order to maintain and thrive no matter what situation we find ourselves in. The “secret sauce” can be found in Romans 12:12.
It states, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” (ESV)
I would challenge you to not only commit this scripture to prayer, but also place it around your home to remind yourself of it regularly. It is so easy to become distracted, disheveled and disappointed. We all have our own stories of pain, grief, hardships, and/or sickness. However, there is a “secret sauce.” The word of God equips us fully with what is needed daily in our Christian walk; no matter if we are experiencing rain or basting in the beauty of the rainbow.
The first call to action is rejoice in hope. Let’s look at a few scriptures on how important hope is.
Hebrews 10: 23 states, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
Isaiah 40:31 states, “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”
Psalm 9:18 states, “But God will never forget the needy; the hope of the afflicted will never perish.”
We must rejoice in hope. We must rejoice in the expectation for a certain thing to happen, shift or change! Rejoice in hope that your latter will be greater than your former. Rejoice in hope that our God is an ever-present help in a time of need. Rejoice in hope that the boundary lines have fallen for you in pleasant places, and indeed you have a beautiful inheritance. Pain is real, but so is hope. Grief is
real, but so is hope. Suffering is real, but so is hope!
The second call to action is patience in tribulation. Lord, I may need to say that again. The second call to action is patience in tribulation. Healing takes time! Don’t rush the process of your restoration. Tribulation does not feel good but if we extend patience, we can allow God to speak to us, counsel us, and comfort us. When you display a lack of patience in your tribulation, you could prolong the situation or circumstance. In addition, you could damage yourself and others, and you could limit the opportunity to heal fully. Be kind to yourself in this process and wait on the Lord. Hold on and hold out, your tribulation has an expiration date.
The final call to action is consistency in prayer. As Christians we all know the importance of prayer. We all are aware that prayer is one way to communicate and commune with God. The question may not be if you pray, but how consistent are you? The bible also tells us to pray without ceasing. There must be something powerful, earth shaken, and heaven bound when we are consistent in prayer. Don’t get caught up on if you have the right words, or how long or short a prayer needs to be, or even where you pray. When you pray, pray to the Father, give thanks, be honest and open, thank God for answered prayers, and always seal it in Jesus’ name. You may have a speech impediment but keep praying. You may feel weary but keeping praying. You may feel unworthy but keep praying. The secret sauce is to be consistent. Pray in the good times and the challenging times. God desires that closeness. The consistency builds your faith and trust in Christ. The consistency helps to break chains and strongholds. The consistency continues to guide you and strengthen you in spirit and in truth.
Now you have it! You have the secret sauce on what it will take to maintain and thrive as a Christian believer. Will you make it applicable to your everyday living? Will you lean, rely and depend on Romans 12:12 to be your guide, in this thing we call life? The Lord loves you, yield to His desires on living a fruitful Christian life. I don’t know about you, but its time to taste and see that the Lord is good! Please, enjoy your “secret sauce!”

Prayer Is My Passion
White Clarinda
After 20 years of praying every morning at 4am, I have seen God answer hundreds of my prayers. My passion for prayer started over 40 years ago. Prayer was a vital part of my upbringing. I remember the family prayers that my sister, brother and I had to wake up to living in the home of a Pastor. My father Pastor Claveron E. Burston, Sr. taught us how to pray very early in life.
It was not until I had a traumatic experience that I realized the effectiveness of prayer in my life even as a child. On my way to school, not looking at both ways before crossing the street, I ran out into the street and was hit by a car, I remember hitting the ground and my head hitting the street. I think I was more shocked and afraid than badly hurt. Without thinking I got up, ran into the house and knelt next to my father’s side of my parents’ bed and prayed. When my mother, who came looking for me, asked me where I went and why did I run into the house, I told her I did not know what to do so I remembered what they taught me, pray.
I ran to my father’s side of the bed because I remembered seeing him kneel and praying next to the bed many times. My mother rushed me to the hospital and much to my surprise I did not
experience any damage to my brain. I do have a scar that was left to remind me of that moment and how prayer saved my life. I am now over 50 years old and looking back over my life I can truly say that one experience birthed in me a passion for prayer. As a child I started to pray and ask God for things that a normal child would want. Some things I received and some things I did not, but I continued to pray. I pray about everything. I am convinced that Prayer Works.
Benefits of Prayer
Constant Communication with the Father
In my opinion constant communication with the Father is the greatest benefit of prayer. I count it a privilege to have direct access to the creator of the universe. It is an honor to have access to God, the greatest power in heaven and in the earth. Psalm 139 (NIV) says, ”1 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.” God knows everything about us. Communication with the father means you are conversating with someone who knows everything about you and is invested in you.
Greater Insight into Who God is Prayer gives you greater insight into who God is because He reveals Himself to you during prayer. During your time with the Father in prayer He makes known to you why He created you. He helps you to understand His ways and His will for your life. It was during my time in prayer that I understood more about His love for me. I would gleefully sing the song Jesus Loves Me as a child, but it was just a song. Then one morning during prayer I felt His love and I then understood that His love is unconditional and long suffering toward me. I know now without a doubt that God is love. Not only is God loving He is also forgiving. 1 John 1:9 (ESV) states, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I have experienced firsthand the forgiveness of God. I remember during a time of prayer I was feeling so bad about something I did that was wrong. I felt condemnation and defeat. God brought 1 John 1:9 to my remembrance. I asked Him to forgive me and the shame and guilt I was feeling went away. I experienced His forgiveness during my prayer time with Him.
Wisdom
Wisdom is another benefit to prayer. James 1:5 (ESV) says, “If any of you lacks widsom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” It is God’s desire to share His wisdom with us. We must ask for wisdom while we are praying, He promises to give it. In a google search I found this: In the Bible, wisdom is more than just intelligence or knowledge; it’s a divine gift that involves sound judgment, discernment, and the ability to apply knowledge to life in a way that honors God. How powerful it is to know that God gives His knowledge and insight to His children. Through our time with Him in prayer He shows us how to navigate our lives. He gives us insight and discernment to help us make the right decisions.
These are just a few benefits of prayer, I can identify hundreds more. It is my prayer that we see the value prayer brings to each of us each day, and that we become hungry and intentional in spending prayer time with our Savior and King.

DAILY DEVOTIONS
DAY FRESH START-
DAY 1
What you have will never be enough and will always be enough at the same time. There are times when you may look at what you have (your gifts and talents) and think it is insufficient. When looking at the big picture it may seem insignificant, but do not be discouraged. When you submit all you have to the Lord it will be more than enough to bless not only you and your house, but it will be a blessing to the masses. What you think and view as small the Lord will bless and multiply it to meet the needs of you, your family, your friends, and strangers.
Challenge: Today, challenge yourself to submit what you have to the Lord. Give Him the “ok” to use your voice, your writings, your artwork, and watch how many lives, including yours, will be impacted.
Matthew 14:17-20 NKJV, “And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” He said, “Bring them here to Me.” Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.”
DAY 2
You have to know Him for yourself. There are times when the things that others have told you about Christ will suffice, but then there are times when only a personal revelation will do; something birthed out of your walk and talk with the Lord (relationship). This personal revelation will not only give you a different perspective and insight of the Lord, but it will teach you so much about yourself. A revelation of who He is will unlock the truth about who you are.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to spend a few extra minutes with Him cultivating your relationship. Learn more about Him and more about you.
Matthew 16:16-19 NKJV, “Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.””
DAY 3
What do you do when you have done all that you know to do; you have sought counsel and asked for help, and nothing has changed for you? You keep pushing. You keep moving forward. You stay persistent. You don’t stop until you see a change.
There will be times when a setback comes and wants to knock you down, but you have to remain strong and focused on what you want. You will get your desired results if you keep going until you get the right answer from the right person. Challenge: Today challenge yourself to not give up until you are satisfied with the results of your pursuit.
Matthew 17:15-18 NKJV, ““Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.” Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”
And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.”
DAY 4
Once we get into a routine our day-to-day life does not take much to maintain. We know who to call at what time, which bus to take, and which prayer to pray when someone asks; but what happens when what we’ve been doing doesn’t seem to be effective? There will be instances where a greater effort is required of us in order to get the job done; when we have to take what we have already been doing and add to it. It may require us to call more to check on family members or get to work earlier to finish the project. We may even have to pray differently. Some things will only change with a greater effort made.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to evaluate what’s working for you and what’s not and then try to put forth a greater effort to see things change.
DAY 5
It is inevitable that offenses will come. It is what we choose to do with that offense that will make all the difference. Offense undealt with will fester on the inside like a poison to your body. It will breed resentment, hatred, and disdain. It will alter your mood and your attitude especially in the presence of the one that hurt you. Offense must be addressed in order to preserve the essence of who you are. The end result may or may not be a lifetime friendship, but you will have put yourself in a position to move forward by doing so.
Challenge: Today, challenge yourself to address the issues that may be uncomfortable to deal with. Talk through your issues and make it right.
Matthew 18:15, “If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell him — work it out between the two of you. If he listens, you’ve made a friend.”

Summer Madness: Don’t Let High Temperatures Spoil Your Fun
70’s rock star Sly Stone had a hit song titled “Hot Fun in the Summertime.” Temperatures over the last few weeks ranged near 100 degrees. With temperatures soaring, it’s essential to know how to stay cool and enjoy your summer fun safely.
Everyone can overheat quickly during high temperatures. The elderly and children are most vulnerable to soaring temperatures. Our bodies process heat differently as humidity levels rise. When humidity is high, sweat doesn’t evaporate as quickly. This slows your body’s natural cooling system. As a result, the temperature will feel hotter if the humidity is high. The “feels like” temperature is known as the heat index. The higher the humidity, the higher the heat index, even if the temperature stays the same. Temperatures and heat index near 100 degrees can cause heat exhaustion.
Heat exhaustion occurs with prolonged exposure to high temperatures and failure to stay hydrated. Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke, a life-threatening condition in which the body can not regulate its temperature, reaching 103 degrees or higher. Symptoms include confusion and a change in mental status.
Staying cool and healthy in hot weather is crucial to avoiding heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Here are practical tips for staying safe, cool, and hydrated:
• Avoid peak heat times. Stay indoors between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. if possible.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored, and breathable fabrics like cotton or linen.
• Reduce the work of air conditioners and fans by keeping the curtains and blinds closed during the hottest part of the day.
• Use the personal fan if you are out in the heat and humidity.
• Place a damp washcloth on your neck, wrists, or forehead.
• Drink plenty of water. Don’t wait until you are thirsty. Drink at least 8-10 cups per day. Use a thermos bottle to keep fluids handy. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks.
• Snack on water-based foods, like watermelon, cucumbers, oranges, and strawberries.
Family reunions, backyard barbeques, and beach vacations are all a part of summer fun. High temperatures on the East Coast are magnified by humidity. It’s important to stay safe and well while enjoying summer fun. Don’t let summer madness spoil your summer fun. Be mindful of the consequences of overheating. Monitor the outdoor temperature and heat indexes. Delay outdoor activities until the evening when temperatures fall.

Tip 1
When we use money as a tool to achieve our goals, it can be a powerful and positive servant. This might look like saving for big purchases, investing, or getting out of debt. However, if money becomes the primary driving force in our lives, it can lead to negativity and stress. This can look like irresponsible spending, accumulating debt, or constantly comparing ourselves to others and feeling insufficient. The point of achieving financial independence, where money serves you instead of the other way around, is to ultimately have more freedom and flexibility in our lives.
Tip 2
Don’t let today be just another day, this week be just another week, or this month be just another month that slips by. Be intentional about creating the financial future you want for yourself and the next generations.
Tip 3
It’s important to start talking with your kids early (around 4 to 5 years old) about simple money concepts. Of course, they won’t be able to grasp everything all at once but introducing them to healthy financial habits in a way they understand is vital. One simple and fun way to help them with saving is with a physical representation that connects how much money they’ve saved with goals at different levels (like games, toys. or visits to fun places). This will help them learn the value of money and aid them later on in avoiding frivolous spending. P.S. This works for us adults, too!
