Psalm 145 (KJV)

1 I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

2 Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

4 One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

5 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.

6 And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness.

7 They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.

8 The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

9 The Lord is good to all: and His tender mercies are over all His works.

10 All thy works shall praise thee, O Lord; and thy saints shall bless thee.

11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;

12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.

13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

14 The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.

18 The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth.

19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear Him: He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

20 The Lord preserveth all them that love Him: but all the wicked will He destroy.

21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: and let all flesh bless His holy name for ever and ever.

Jackie Determined

There is one word that has taken on a new meaning for me; that word is determined. I am often in awe and amazed at what God is able to do with one single person’s life. God is able to do exceeding abundantly more than you could ever imagine with your life. I believe that one of the keys to living a great life is being determined to live the life God has prepared for you.

Sometimes tragedy, health issues, heartaches, and disappointments can take your life in another whole direction than where you were headed. It takes a whole new level of determination to still give God the glory and live your life for Christ in spite of whatever you are going through.

Despite whatever has happened or has not happened in your life thus far, you have to be determined to not let it cause you to just lay down and die; in other words give up. You have to be determined NOT to give up or give in. “A difficult time can be more readily endured if we retain the conviction that our existence holds a purpose – a cause to pursue, a person to love, a goal to achieve.” (John Maxwell)

There are several synonyms for determination- resolve, single-mindedness, perseverance, and persistence, to name a few. Determination is also defined as a tendency to move in a fixed direction. Thus the scripture, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14-15). Staying focused is a form of determination, knowing that the outcome will be far greater than what you are experiencing in the moment. The Bible tells us that what we sometimes go through in life are light afflictions, “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (2 Corinthians 4:17). You may be saying (and I agree) that what you are going through is far from light; but no matter what it is that you are going through, it pales compared to eternal glory.

EPPS

It takes a lot of strength and courage to be determined and remain determined. Being determined is making a firm decision and being resolved not to change it. Never underestimate determination and what it can do.

I believe that God is looking for us as believers to remain steadfast, unmovable and always abounding in the work of the Lord. God promises our determination will not be in vain.

Be encouraged . . .

Q&A Interview - Apostle Jekia L. Ledbetter

Rising From The Ashes

G&G: Apostle Ledbetter, it is always an honor and a pleasure to have the opportunity to talk with you. Let’s catch up and start with the cover story first “Rising From The Ashes”. What does “Rising From the Ashes” mean in a biblical or spiritual sense?

Apostle Ledbetter: It is always an honor to share with my Grace & Glory family, rising from the ashes is basically making a comeback after some type of disaster (Impact) that almost led to a tragic end, and in other words I am living in my Genesis 50:20 moment, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

G&G: Apostle Ledbetter, tell us about this time in your life when you faced intense spiritual warfare? How did you recognize it for what it was?

Apostle Ledbetter: Spiritual warfare is the conflict between good and evil, especially as it relates to our faith, thoughts, emotions, and obedience to God. I believe daily we all go through some type of spiritual warfare. It is only through the elements of spiritual warfare that our faith, emotions and physical stance will determine our real strength in life. To discern is to judge well, and to recognize spiritual warfare involves discerning. A discerning of when you are under spiritual attack or any type of influence that it is meant to hinder your relationship with God, your purpose in God or your peace with God’s plan for life.

Apostle Ledbetter: Absolutely, plenty of times I felt all of this, spiritual warfare is the ongoing battle between good and evil—between the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness. Whenever you are engaged in spiritual warfare, it can deeply affect your spirit, your mind, emotions, and even your physical body. The question is are you always ready for the spiritual warfare, the answer is “no”. Because before you know it, you are in it. This is why daily, you have to stay in prayer, get your proper rest, worship God, read your Bible and have an accountability partner to help you stay the course. Without this method you will approach emotional exhaustion, mental fatigue, physical tiredness and spiritual burnout much fastener than needs to be.

G&G: Did this warfare have you feeling spiritually exhausted or distant from God? Were there moments when you doubted your calling?

I have been pastoring for 18 years, preaching for 22 years, married for 23 years. I am a mother, grandmother, a business owner and a spiritual mother to many; and I have had my share of spiritual battles. Some of the challenges that I had to face in my life, not only had me question God but also the calling on my life, and every time I did, I found out that true victory always started with renewing my way of thinking. Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” This scripture not only helped me to change my way of thinking but also enhanced my perspective about each situation. There is always someone who is going through something worse than we are every day. When we think with a grateful mentality your survival, your win, could be the answer to other’s prayers or situations.

Apostle Ledbetter and her family.

G&G: Apostle Ledbetter, how did you protect your mind and spirit while under attack— especially when no one else seemed to notice? Was it difficult to minister to others from that place of brokenness?

Apostle Ledbetter: Be encouraged to know it seems like the worst and heavier attacks come when you feel like you are all alone, when you feel like no one truly understands the place that you are currently in or going through. Honestly, it has never been hard for me to minister to others while in a broken place of my own; only because I have always pushed past what I was feeling to help others win. To think that this comes with the territory of loving others and seeing them win, when you can’t see a win for yourself, is unhealthy. You must first be free in your own mind and in your own way of thinking, to free someone else. Protecting your mind and spirit is key during a spiritual battle, it is crucial because that’s where the enemy often tries to attack first—with confusion, fear, discouragement, and deception. With everything that is going on in the world, I focus on, “The Joy that I have can only come from the Lord.” I focus on positive thoughts to guard my mind and everything that goes in it, staying rooted in God’s Word, and learning how to speak out loud (Ephesians 6:10-18).

G&G: Was there a turning point—a moment of hope—that sparked your healing or comeback? Apostle Ledbetter: My turning point for healing and breakthrough really came full circle when I fully understood the power of the word grace, God’s grace (His unmerited favor). My younger brother went in the hospital for a simple medical procedure and died from Covid. Shortly after I caught Covid and became very sick but recovered

quickly, and it was in that recovering process that I realized I survived what my only brother died from. I remember hearing God say, “My grace is sufficient for you.” This changed and empowered my life forever, demonstrating the unveiling love that heaven was backing up my whole existence for life. The excitement began with feeling a fire that could not be extinguished, and I loved the feeling that God had with me.

A year later, I never would have imagined what would happen next. The diagnosis of a heart blockage of almost 65% of my heart, which would result in me getting a stint put into my heart. I was put on the same operating table that my grandfather died of a heart attack on. I remember saying, “God I don’t know what this is but, please create in me a clean heart and renew within me the right spirit to serve you.” (Lord Have Mercy) When I woke up, I remember hearing the doctor, but seeing my mom’s smiling face, as the doctor spoke these words,“God is good.” Within two days, the heart blockage percentage went from 65% down to 10%. Again, God’s grace found me. (Lord Have Mercy) In that same year, just two months later, I found out I had a 10cm cyst growing inside my liver with several gallstones pressing against my liver; oh, the pain and the agony, how far is God’s grace really taking me??

I needed surgery and I remember being anxious to get it over and done with. Following surgery I awakened to a tremendous amount of pain, during the surgery my left lung collapsed, and there was a puncture hole at the top side of my right lung. This time I felt no grace; you soon will forget when your whole life gets flipped upside down. Not only was I in constant pain, but I was also not able to talk long or breathe easily, let alone preach. The recovery ahead was long and this is when I realized that in my 22 years of ministry I never

rested; I had just entered a season of practicing what I preached. It was in this moment that God was teaching me, His Grace comes with an unforeseen love that must be fully experienced before being talked about it or even lived.

G&G: Apostle Ledbetter, what has been the most surprising blessing to come out of this battle? Tell us why you now know you have “Risen from the Ashes”?

Apostle Ledbetter: I have been in a lot of battles, faced a lot of trials and tribulations but this by far was the hardest of them all. Up until this time, when a tragedy would come in my life, I was able to preach my way through it, but now, I was down without a sound. It was in this process that God allowed me to rest but He also showed me who would really be there for me. It was in this healing process that I lost some people and some possessions, but I never lost my praise. God’s redemptive love was not to hurt me but to become the manifestation of the healing power of Jesus Christ.

God showed me that there is a difference between the fingerprint of the enemy and the handprint of God. The finger of the enemy wants to hold you down, but the hand of God is to pull you up through the process of life. God’s plan didn’t just allow me to rise from the ashes, He also allowed me to have a comeback testimony that will preach, encourage and revive all of mankind to know that God doesn’t leave us in the process, He refines us in the process!

G&G: How can the church support people who are in their “ashes” season?

Apostle Ledbetter: The church can be a powerful source of healing and restoration for

people going through an “ashes” season—a time marked by deep loss, grief, disappointment, failure, or spiritual dryness. We must preach a message of hope and restoration, we must create safe places for growth and vulnerability, we must offer counseling and life discipleship growth workshops and skills. We must also teach and become a strong place of intercession, prayer, and miracle hubs. The church should model the heart of Jesus Christ to become compassionate, restoring, and full of grace one to another. A person rising from the ashes needs both the comfort of Christ and the company and of His people. That’s how healing truly begins.

G&G: Apostle Ledbetter, finally, what do you say to people who feel like they are too far gone to rise again?

Apostle Ledbetter: You’re not too far gone to rise from the ashes of life; God does His best work in the ashes. You might feel like everything has burned down your dreams, relationships, and your purpose, but ashes are not the end of your story.

In fact, ashes are where God often begins His most powerful work, Isaiah 61:3 says God gives us “beauty for ashes,” which means He can take the very thing that looks like destruction and bring something beautiful from it. (Lord Have Mercy) The Bible is full of people who thought they were done, because of life’s process- people like Moses, David, Peter, even Paul, but God had more for them on the other side of their brokenness. You may feel too weak, been too wounded, feel too messed up, but that’s exactly the soil where resurrection grows. I want to encourage someone to let God meet you in the ashes. He doesn’t expect you to be strong, God only asks for us to be willing and keep the faith.

Celebrating 22 Years in Ministry,18 years as a Pastor

G&G: Apostle Ledbetter, let’s shift and turn to your 22 years in ministry, as you look back over your life, are you at all surprised of where you are today. Did you always know that God was calling you into ministry, or was it a journey of discovery?

Apostle Ledbetter: The word is shocked, I knew all my life it was something different about me, my family was always in church and I was there too, but the problem was my heart was so far away from Christian living or Christian hearing. My pursuit in ministry started with the journey of discovery and saying yes to an unshakable call from heaven that could not be ignored.

G&G: What were the biggest challenges you faced early in your ministry? Did you face opposition being a woman in ministry?

Apostle Ledbetter: Some of the biggest challenges I faced early in my ministry were tied to identity, credibility, and acceptance. I had the call; I knew it deep in my spirit but walking it out wasn’t always easy. There were moments of self-doubt, seasons of isolation, and times when it felt like I had to prove myself over and over again just to be heard. I wasn’t just fighting spiritual battles; I was also navigating cultural expectations, traditional mindsets, and sometimes even silence from those who didn’t believe women should be in leadership at all.

Yes, I did face opposition as a woman in ministry, but through it all, God sustained me. He kept me. God reaffirmed my call, sending voices of encouragement right when I needed them, and opening doors no one could shut.

Looking back, I can honestly say those challenges shaped me. They pressed me into prayer, deepened my dependence on God, and gave me compassion for others who felt marginalized or misunderstood in their calling. Now, I don’t just minister from knowledge — I minister from experience, from scars that have become testimony.

G&G: Apostle Ledbetter, looking back, what lessons have you learned that only time and experience could teach you?

Apostle Ledbetter: The journey has taught me to stop looking for people to clap that have no hands. I learned perseverance, I also learned the difference between true love and counterfeit love. I learned the difference between entitlement vs grace, and of course my biggest lesson has

been, Romans 8:28, “That all things in God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

G&G: What moments in your ministry have been the most meaningful to you? Have you seen God move in unexpected or miraculous ways in your ministry?

Apostle Ledbetter: Some of the most meaningful things that have become rich and valuable to me is pure relationships, the fruit, and the revealing of God’s promises and miracles in people’s lives. When I really look back over my life, I see everything as being a manifested seed of God’s Word, Love and Promise. It’s one level to hear God say that He is going to do something for you, but it’s a greater level to experience the land mark of manifestation that once was prophesied to you!

G&G: Apostle Ledbetter, I have one more reflective question, if you could go back and speak to yourself 18 years ago, what would you say?

Apostle Ledbetter: You’re not behind. You’re not broken. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. Life is going to bring both pain and joy, but neither will last forever. Learn to be present. Love deeply. Forgive often. Trust your instincts more than your fears and whatever you do, don’t trade your authenticity for approval. The people who truly matter will love you as you are.

G&G: Lastly, has the perception or acceptance of women in pastoral roles changed since you began? And what are your hopes or goals for the next season of your ministry?

Apostle Ledbetter: Absolutely, the perception and acceptance of women in pastoral roles have shifted significantly since I began. When I first stepped into ministry, there were many rooms where I was the only woman, and sometimes the unspoken question was whether I even belonged there. There were real barriers theological, cultural, and even emotional settings that made the path feel uphill. But over the years, I’ve seen hearts soften, minds open, and more women boldly step into their God-given callings. Today, there’s a growing recognition that the anointing is not gendered, it’s given by God, and it’s powerful in whoever He chooses to use.

As for the next season of my ministry, I’m believing God for a greater impact not just in numbers, but in depth. I want to raise up leaders, especially women, who are strong in the Word, rooted in identity, and fearless in purpose. My heart is to build spaces of healing and activation, where people can rise from their ashes and walk in wholeness, whether through preaching, mentoring, or community outreach. My goal is to be a bridge for transformation, pointing people to Jesus and helping them discover the fullness of who they are in Him.

Our God Will Fight For Us

Rhoda

TURNER

I know that there are times in an individual’s life where they feel alone. I’m not ashamed to say I’ve been there once or twice myself and it’s okay.

Loneliness is a God given emotion along with happiness, insecurity, anger, peace, joy, sadness, and many more. It’s not the emotion that gets us in trouble, it’s what we allow the emotion to evolve into.

Emotion means: a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. Mid-16th century (denoting a public disturbance): from French émotion, from émouvoir ‘excite’, based on Latin emovere, from e- (variant of ex-) ‘out’ + movere ‘move’. The current sense dates from the early 19th century.

Emotions are movement unchecked. E-Motion can move you out of the place where God has you.

Loneliness is a state of mind. In Genesis God stated that man should not be alone, so what did He do He made him a helper.

You can feel lonely even when you’re with someone. Why because it’s a state of mind. If you see that you are finding yourself in that state of mind . . .

• Start by praying, in your prayers be open, real and honest.

• Talk to a friend or a therapist. Having someone that will hold you accountable helps.

Know that God is willing to fight for you. The question is are you willing to fight for yourself and your peace of mind?

In Exodus 14:13-14 (NIV), “Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.””

You may not understand why you are feeling the way that you are. But just like the scripture stated that God will fight for you, you have to be willing to fight for yourself as well. The enemy can only bring up past issues, he can’t show you your future. You have to stop looking at the past and focus on what’s to come.

In Nehemiah 4, it speaks about God fighting for us. In that chapter, what was absent for 7 years, was rebuilt in 72 days.

God will fight for us, it’s not fair for Him to fight alone.

Pastor Rhoda Turner Christian Faith Fellowship Church Chandler, AZ www.cffaz.org

DEBNAM Dr. Carla

Life has many ups and downs. It is up to us to overcome and stand in the face of adversity. We never know when troubles will come, what they will look like or how they will impact us but we all know that they will. Do not let the arrival of trials to stop you from moving forward and pursuing your destiny. There has to be more to life than waiting for the next problem. We must be prepared for our breakthrough and see what God has given us come to pass. In order for this to happen, we must get out of our comfort zones and exercise our spiritual muscle. We must fight the good fight of faith. In other words, we must fight on!

Fight On!

Fighting on will not be like a conventional fistfight, boxing match or professional wrestling match. Fighting on will include prayer, fasting, worship, praise, fellowship and helping others. Using your spiritual gifts of helps, encouragement, leadership and others to push through the problems will be another weapon to fight with.

Acknowledging our need for one another is key as the fight of faith wages in so many areas of our lives. This is not a fight that can be won alone. We need everyone to help us to continue moving our faith forward.

Discouragement and despair can creep in if the war on our faith lasts longer than we thought it would. This is the time when we must lean and depend on our past victories, knowing we can overcome by encouraging ourselves. Like King David, we may find ourselves alone and under attack, this is when he had to dig deep and fight on, in spite of adversity. We may feel alone in our fight but we are never alone. Jesus has promised to never leave us or forsake us. The Holy Spirit is our guide and God is an ever-present help in times of trouble. We can fight on because the battle is not ours it is the Lord’s. Be encouraged and be strong. You and I can succeed. No matter what the challenge may be, you must continue to fight on!

Living Eternity- NOW!

Welcome August! I wanted to take a moment and share a message from Dr. Bill Winston. When I received this letter, it truly blessed me, and I pray it will do the same for you. I want to highlight several things throughout the letter that is sure to build your faith. The foundation scripture is found in Isaiah 57:15. The Message Bible States, “A message from the high and towering God, who lives in Eternity, whose name is Holy: “I live in the high and holy places, but also with the low spirited, the spirit-crushed, And what I do is put a new spirit in them, get them up and on their feet again.”

Dr. Bill Winston opens the letter by stating, “Eternity is not how long you live as some have thought. It Is the realm of the supernatural; where the laws of time, space and matter are no longer the boundaries of the believer. We the church, are living in eternal life NOW, not when we go to heaven. When we get a revelation of this, working miracles become as normal as breathing air.” Wow! I have to say, when I read this for the first time, I had to take a seat and ask God to widen my understanding. As I continued reading the letter things started becoming clearer. Let’s go a little deeper.

Dr. Bill Winston continues to say, “Jesus was constantly showing his disciples that they could live this eternal life Right NOW…living above the natural laws of this earth. Through faith, they could operate from this higher realm by supernaturally turning water into wine, walking on water, speaking to storms, cursing unfruitful fig trees, healing the sick, and even raising the dead-instantly. When we access eternity by faith, we are empowered to command this planet and everything in it to line up with Heaven’s original blueprint.” I don’t know about you, but wow that was a powerful revelation for me. Do you recognize that there is an original blueprint from Heaven that will cause the earth and everything in it to come into alignment when we walk in our God given authority, by FAITH!

When the disciples walked in this authority, Heaven’s blueprint was manifested on earth through the manifestation of walking on water, healing the sick, raising the dead, etc. It made me think are we really walking in the authority that God has given us? Reference John 14:12 when Jesus told the disciples, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall

he do; because I go unto my Father.” Dr. Bill Winston went on to say, “The earth was to be a copy of heaven. It is waiting to hear the commands of its Creator through his designated agents, the sons of God, which are you and me.” Please reference Matthew 6:10, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” My goodness, this is a revelation that we must take time to process. If we only depend on and operate from the earth’s supply, we will be limited. However, if we access by FAITH God’s supply through heaven, we are limitless!

In summary, Dr. Bill Winston expresses that we must understand that faith rules over time. He states, “Your faith now dictates the time and the desired outcome of what you will have and when you have it.” He goes on to say, “You can’t see time and get a miracle. Our life is no longer to be governed by the laws and limitations of the earth but by the laws and limitless supply of the Kingdom of Heaven.” I hope you would agree with me that it is time for us to tap into the limitless supply of God, consistently!

In addition to understanding that faith rules over time, Dr. Bill Winston also expresses that we must renew our mind, and trust that the world needs us. He states, “A key to unlocking the supernatural and living in eternity now is that you must first know who you are and your purpose for being here.” I agree with Dr. Bill Winston when he said, “You are a distributor of the solutions and provisions that God has already laid up in heaven for the earth and suffering humanity.” I hope you hear me; Heaven has the blueprint! Heaven is not in kayos or disarray trying to figure out what’s next, what’s new or what’s coming. For heaven, its already settled. Its time for us to stop limiting ourselves through the limitations of this world, but with confidence access the limitless supply of God by walking in our God given authority, by FAITH! I don’t know about you, but I am ready to walk in the limitless supply of God – NOW! This is a great time to give God thanks, that Heaven has the blueprint, and that blueprint will NOT fail us!

The Healing Power Of God

Burston-White Clarinda

In the bible there are many stories of God demonstrating His power. Hundreds of stories showing God’s ability to save His people from the most challenging and difficult situations. For instance, when Moses and the children of Isreal escaped Egyptian rule and was faced with what looked like an inescapable situation; Pharoah and his army behind him and the Red Sea before him. God and His power intervened and opened the Red Sea so that Moses and the children of Israel

could escape. There’s the story of Sarah and Abram who desired children, but Sarah was barren and had given up hope, then she is visited by an angel at the ripe old age of 80 to inform her that she would give birth to a son. There’s also the woman who was bleeding for 12 years, but one encounter with Jesus changed her life and stopped her bleeding. There are many stories in the bible where God showed His power and authority in favor of the people He loves.

Skeptics may think those stories are from thousands of years ago. Doubters may think, what do those stories have to do with me today? Uncertain persons may think, that is not my reality today, I am not running from a Pharoah in the desert like Moses. I am dealing with a much different kind of situation. My answer to those thoughts can be found in Hebrew 13:8 which states Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Our God and Savior never changes He is still rescuing, healing and performing miracles today.

We cannot discuss the healing power of God without first examining the word, Miracle. KJV Bible Dictionary defines miracles as 1. Literally, a wonder or wonderful thing; but appropriately, 2. In theology, an event or effect contrary to the established constitution and course of things, or a deviation from the known laws of nature; a supernatural event.

Miracles are what we read about when we read the bible. Supernatural events that cause us to stand in awe and reverence. Miracles

are occurrences that happen outside of man’s natural ability. I was asked many years ago, “Is God still performing miracles?” My response was, “Yes, yes and amen.” Read Mark 16:17-18. Miracles are activated in our lives when we pray in faith. Prayer is the key, but faith unlocks the door is an expression that I have heard quite often, but it is so true. Miracles can and will happen in the lives of believers and those who pray and believe in the awesome power of God.

Read the testimony of Keisha Edmund. She has a remarkable testimony of the healing power of God. Just like Keisha God can do the same for you. He can heal and rescue from sickness and disease. We first must believe and have faith in Him.

My Testimony - By Keisha Edmond

“I have always been a woman who had ‘girl issues’ when it came to my menstrual cycle. I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in the mid-1990’s and was accustomed to sporadic cysts bursting which was painful. On October 29th, 2018, I went to work like normal but later, began to feel a bit weird. Although I thought it was another cyst rupturing, this was different. I called my co-worker and the main office of the school where I was teaching at the time and told them I needed to leave early because I was sick. I went home and took some pain medicine, thinking I could sleep it off but told my husband to check on me when he got home that day. He did and he convinced me to go to the hospital. Upon arrival, I passed out

and woke up screaming. I was sent home with medication and with a GYN appointment. I met the doctor the next day and was told that I may have to have an ovary removed, a partial hysterectomy, or a full hysterectomy. I was in pain and was shocked but wanted to stop the pain, so I said OKAY The next day, I entered GBMC for surgery, spoke to the doctor, kissed my husband, mother and friends and went to sleep. I woke up 5 1/2 hours later, the surgery was scheduled to be 2 1/2 hours, and the doctor joked that I owed him for the extra time for surgery, in my medically sedated state, I chuckled. He then began to discuss cancer and chemotherapy options. In my mind I said, WHAT!!!! My husband, who was by my side, discussed the surgery, and helped me understand that I had a rare form of ovarian cancer and a malignant tumor that had exploded and had to have a total hysterectomy! We had been discussing children but had not been successful in getting pregnant. I hadn’t had a chance to heal completely from surgery when my mother got sick and had to be placed on dialysis. My father was also ill, so caring for him became more important after my mother’s illness, as I am an only child. In December of 2018, I began chemotherapy while caring for my mom and dad. I rang the bell in March of 2019. In 2020 and 2021, I had two more surgeries to remove tumors while still caring for my parents.

Through it all, I have seen how much God cares for me. I have seen His hand in each situation, through each moment of my life. God is building my trust in Him, continues to build my patience, and makes me see how His healing power works. For each of the latter surgeries, I had not felt one symptom! Although I still deal with the trauma of a cancer diagnosis, I continue to live, grow and thrive in my body and my faith. Now, I can say that I know how God heals, sustains, keeps, builds, and makes us new. Even when I feel that all may be lost or that my healing is not complete because a new tumor shows up, or my cancer marker numbers are out of whack, He shows me how He continues to move on my behalf and how He wants to heal me again and again. I have learned that healing can be instant or a process. We just need to listen and look for the ways that God wants to heal and trust Him to place the testimony in our test. He will ultimately get all the glory.”

DAILY DEVOTIONS

(Excerpts from NEW DAY FRESH START- by Brandie Manigault)

DAY 1

You have to know Him for yourself. There are times when the things that others have told you about Christ will suffice, but then there are times when only a personal revelation will do; something birthed out of your walk and talk with the Lord (relationship). This personal revelation will not only give you a different perspective and insight of the Lord, but it will teach you so much about yourself. A revelation of who He is will unlock the truth about who you are.

Challenge: Today challenge yourself to spend a few extra minutes with Him cultivating your relationship. Learn more about Him and more about you.

Matthew 16:16-19, “Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

DAY 2

What do you do when you have done all that you know to do; you have sought counsel and asked for help and nothing has changed for you? You keep pushing. You keep moving forward. You stay persistent. You don’t stop until you see a change. There will be times when a setback comes and wants to knock you down, but you have to remain strong and focused on what you want. You will get your desired results if you keep going until you get the right answer from the right person.

Challenge: Today challenge yourself to not give up until you are satisfied with the results of your pursuit.

Matthew 17:15-18 NIV, “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.” “Bring the boy here to me.” Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.

DAY 3

Once we get into a routine our day-to-day life does not take much to maintain. We know who to call at what time, which bus to take, and which prayer to pray when someone asks; but what happens when what we’ve been doing doesn’t seem to be effective? There will be instances where a greater effort is required of us in order to get the job done; when we have to take what we have already been doing and add to it. It may

require us to call more to check on family members or get to work earlier to finish the project. We may even have to pray differently. Some things will only change with a greater effort made.

Challenge: Today challenge yourself to evaluate what’s working for you and what’s not and then try to put forth a greater effort to see things change.

Matthew 17:19-21, “Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

DAY 4

It is inevitable that offenses will come. It is what we choose to do with that offense that will make all the difference. Offense undealt with will fester on the inside like a poison to your body. It will breed resentment, hatred, and disdain. It will alter your mood and your attitude especially in the presence of the one that hurt you. Offense must be addressed in order to preserve the essence of who you are. The end result may or may not be a lifetime friendship, but you will have put yourself in a position to move forward by doing so.

Challenge: Today, challenge yourself to address the issues that may be uncomfortable to deal with. Talk through your issues and make it right.

Matthew 18:15 (MSG), “If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell him — work it out between the two of you. If he listens, you’ve made a friend.”

DAY 5

When we try to change our situations in our own strength, we quickly find that it is pointless and a waste of our time and energy. In and of ourselves we do not have the ability, power, endurance, or wisdom to effectively change anything, but when we surrender all of what we do have (our willingness) God can turn everything around for us. Without Him enabling us in everything we set out to do, both large and small, we can’t do anything at all.

Challenge: Today challenge yourself to take your hands off of things, and let God change it for you.

Matthew 19:25-26, “When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Back-To-School: Are You Ready?

Can we believe it’s August already? Television stations are showing commercials for back-to-school clothing and supplies. Even though we are still enjoying the lazy, hazy days of summer, the new school season is quickly approaching.

The transition from the summer schedule to a more structured school schedule can be stressful for both parents and children. Here are some tips to help you manage the transition between summer and fall schedules and navigate this period with confidence and ease.

Most likely, bedtimes have changed during the summer due to vacations and more relaxed schedules. Consider adjusting bedtimes and wake-up times by ten minutes each day, starting two weeks before school begins. This will help make the return to school schedules less jarring.

Back-to-school shopping can be overwhelming and expensive. Involve the children in setting priorities for purchases. Set a budget for back-to-school shopping and create a list of necessary supplies. Stick to the list as much as possible. Take advantage of tax-free weeks when buying school supplies and clothing.

Make preliminary trips on the bus and walking route. Review pick-up and drop-off points. Discuss road safety, review bus stop procedures, and outline procedures for school delays and early dismissals due to inclement weather conditions.

Begin early to establish a consistent, organized spot for studying and homework. The space should be relatively quiet with fewer distractions. Encourage the child to help stock the space with supplies. A stable study space helps foster accountability and academic success.

Review your child’s immunizations and schedule a wellness checkup with your pediatric primary care provider.

Returning to school brings excitement, but it can also be a stressful period for your child. Are they attending a new school? Will they need to make new friends? Is a child they previously had disagreements with going to be in their class, riding on their bus, or attending the same school? Talking about these issues can demonstrate your support for your child. Do not neglect talking with younger siblings who may feel neglected and isolated during the transition. Younger children may miss their older sibling, who was a playmate and companion during the summer.

You may feel anxious, too. New schedules and concerns about your child’s adjustments can be stressful for parents. It’s essential to prioritize selfcare and ask for help when needed.

Celebrate the new school year with joy. Make a special breakfast and take pictures on the first day. Plan simple end-of-week outings or playdates to give kids something to look forward to. This can show children that the school year doesn’t mean the fun associated with summer is over.

Determine which after-school or extracurricular activities your child will participate in. A return to school can make kids tired and overwhelmed. Be patient and be flexible. Ease into the extra activities. Consider scheduling the activities to allow periods of relaxation.

Making a realistic transition plan and implementing it early can reduce the stress of returning to school for parents and children. By implementing these strategies, parents can support their children’s transition back to school with confidence and enthusiasm.

Sending prayers for a safe and successful school year!

Tip 1

It’s almost that time... back to school! Everyone may be thinking about new school clothes, shoes, and supplies but we should also be thinking about the costs. There will inevitably be certain things that come up throughout the school year that will cost additional money. Instead of letting these things catch you off guard, sit down with your kids and make a plan. Maybe we skip grabbing Chick-Fil-A one day and save that money for a field trip. Maybe your high school junior picks up a part-time job to help pay for homecoming or prom. Use this backto-school season as an opportunity to teach your children about financial responsibility and planning ahead!

Tip 2

The way the system is set up- we get rewarded for being in debt (high credit score), but then get penalized if we don’t have any debt (don’t qualify for anything). Think about this when you’re helping your kids develop their own knowledge and relationship with money. Is it more important to get your teen a credit card to establish they can handle debt or would you rather they learn to avoid debt and the burden that comes with it? Think about which “system” you want your legacy to buy into.

Tip 3

Which would you choose? There isn’t a right or wrong answer, because it depends on your current situation. If you’re at a breaking point, a “right-now” vacation might be the best answer. If you don’t mind a little wait AND are guaranteed future vacation, that could be the better option. Take some time to think about which option you would choose and why.
