REGIONAL EVENT
Eastern Kentucky Flooding
Between July 26 and July 30, 2022, heavy rain, deadly flash flooding, and devastating river flooding hit eastern Kentucky and central Appalachia According to the National Weather Service, rainfall totals across eastern Kentucky were over 600% of normal and destroyed homes and communities across Breathitt, Clay, Knott, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley, and Perry counties
GRACE HEALTH CLINICS DONATE TO FLOOD RELIEF
With many homeless and most areas without electricity or running water, organizations and individuals from across the country stepped up to help southeastern Kentucky flood victims At Grace Health, the Outreach Team coordinated a flood relief fundraiser which raised over $1,800 to purchase requested items to provide much needed supplies to the affected areas (pg 14)
In addition to funds raised by employees, Grace Health pharmacies coordinated to deliver essential medical supplies to Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation (MCHC) in Whitesburg (pg 13) When the pharmacy team arrived at MCHC, employees there were overjoyed to receive supplies The donations helped the clinic get mobile vaccine clinics going to reach people in the community who couldn't get to the clinic When pharmacist Casey Whittaker and pharmacy coordinator Dustin McQueen arrived, MCHC was having a vaccine clinic in their mud filled parking lot with people lined up down the street to receive a tetanus shot

FLOOD RELIEF
Mike Wynn, Director of Community Programs, delivered two generators, water, and cleaning supplies to Fleming Neon Fire Department in Letcher County (left) When he arrived, he reported having trouble navigating through town due to the number of people set up to help Wynn shared that he was humbled to see the outpouring of support from other areas
Though there were stacks of mud caked debris lining the streets, the town was also filled with different agencies who had arrived to help in the recovery efforts Throughout town, Wynn saw numerous stacks of water and cleaning products brought by neighbors and strangers alike
The cleanup efforts continue as residents also need help applying for FEMA Disaster Relief In August, Grace Health outreach team members set up in various eastern Kentucky cities, including Oneida, Manchester, and Will iamsburg, to help affected community members apply for necessary assistance
As Grace Health continues to work in these communities, we ask that you keep all affected by the July flood in your prayers
Living the Grace Health Mission
To show the love and share the truth of Jesus Christ to southeastern Kentucky, through access to compassionate, high quality, primary health care for the whole person.
with Grace Health Dental
In this edition of "Living the Grace Health Mission", we are excited to highlight the positive impact of our dental team in local communities and schools across the Grace Health service area
Grace Health knows that dental hygiene is vital to overall health but often gets overlooked due to the high cost associated with that care On September 6 the Hyden Dental Clinic eagerly welcomed its first patient who expressed concerns about being able to afford dental care in the past After his appointment he was extremely appreciative of getting the care he needed without having to pay In the short time they've been open the Hyden Dental Clinic team has identified an extensive need for dental care in the community The dental staff is grateful for the chance to provide much needed dental care to local community members while reducing previous barriers to receiving that care
In addition to the Hyden Dental Clinic, Grace Health works with Elgin Chi dental screenings in local schools According to Elgin's website, their dental program was created to ensure that children, no matter their background or status in life, have full access to dental care The Elgin foundation works to stop the cycle of poverty that has debilitated this area for generations
Dr Kayla Fields Grace Health Dental Director and the Elgin Dental Program recently performed dental screenings in Bell County Over 600 children in preschool through 6th grade were screened Of those students 50 had urgent dental needs with another 204 having cavities and decay present
One patient with an urgent need had a large cyst under their tongue and was referred to Anderson Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery PSC in London for appropriate treatment It is unclear how long the child had suffered with this cyst but Dr Fields was able to rest assured that they would soon receive the necessary treatment to remedy the issue
