A Note From Our CEO It is the people of Grace Health who have positively shaped our organization from day one. Without the hard work, dedication, and perseverance exhibited by our phenomenal team members, we would be unable to serve the communities in southeastern Kentucky as we do. For every person who shares joy and compassion throughout the day, I want to thank you. Your contributions do not go unnoticed; you are valued. In this edition, I am excited to recognize several individuals who always go above and beyond in their roles with Grace Health to improve the lives of those around them every day. This quarter, we had the pleasure of honoring Alesia Anderson, a 14year employee of Grace Health, with a retirement party at 2nd & Main

in Corbin (page 4). On page 18, we highlight the most recent cohort of CMAA graduates and their instructor, Kelly Philpot. The cohort achieved a 100% certification pass rate. Philpot received the Together We Can award for her hard work teaching the CMAA course in addition to her daily dedication to Grace Health. Additionally, we are happy to share that Hannah Owens, one of our amazing medical assistants, is the winner of the Quarter 1 Stellar Award (page 8). We are proud that each of these ladies has given their time and heart to Grace Health, representing a small sampling of the remarkable group dedicated to helping people heal. We can meet the Grace Health mission because of employees who are willing to learn, train, and grow. To further our mission, we award scholarships to students from our six service areas who intend to pursue a medical career in their secondary education. We are excited to introduce you to the 2022 Kay Campbell Scholarship recipients (pages 5-7). These young people are brilliant examples of the potential that resides in southeastern Kentucky. In addition to advancing their medical knowledge to help patients in need (pages 9), Grace Health team members represented the hands and feet of Jesus through various outreach events this quarter (pages 1214). We continue to see the blessings of God pour upon our communities when we dedicate the time to be written epistles of His Word (page 19). We are thankful that Grace Health team members strive to keep their light burning bright for the people we serve. "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing." I Thessalonians 5:11 - Michael Stanley

Kentucky Hepatitis Academic Mentorship Program (KHAMP) Hepatitis C Training Program Hepatitis C, a liver infection spread through contact with blood (IV drug use, health care exposure, etc), can be a short-term illness for some. However, more than half of people who become infected develop a long-term, chronic infection. Chronic hepatitis C can result in serious, even life-threatening, health problems such as late-stage liver disease (cirrhosis) and liver cancer. Dr. Ashlee Robinson (Levi Center Clinic), Dr. Morgan Birch & Angela Eversole, APRN (Bishop Street Clinic), Kayla Sabo, APRN (Hyden Clinic), and Rita Gilbert, APRN (Manchester Clinic) have completed the Kentucky Hepatitis Academic Mentorship Program (KHAMP), a 12-month training program to increase their knowledge and skill in treating hepatitis C infections. KHAMP builds a primary care workforce to screen, diagnose, treat, and follow patients infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) to improve the health of underserved communities in the Appalachian region. By removing the barriers to care for individuals diagnosed with HCV, Grace Health can increase the number of people who successfully receive care and are cured. Since it can take decades for symptoms of HCV to appear, most people don't know they're infected. The CDC recommends that all U.S. adults and pregnant women be screened for hepatitis C. While HCV can lead to life-threatening issues, over 90% of people infected with HCV can be cured of their infection with 8–12 weeks of oral therapy having few side effects. We are thankful to have various providers and locations helping increase access to life-saving treatment for the people in our communities.

Outreach 50th District Baseball Tournament

Grace Health was pleased to sponsor the 50th District Baseball Tournament hosted by Corbin Independent School System. This tournament allowed Grace Health to connect with local communities regarding the access to high-quality health care we provide. Consisting of 3 baseball games between Corbin, Whitley County, South Laurel, and Williamsburg, the 2022 tournament took place May 16-17 at the Corbin High School baseball field. On May 16, Corbin faced the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets while Whitley County took on the Cardinals of South Laurel. Corbin and Whitley County won their respective games and faced each other in the championship game on May 17. Winning 14 to 4 in 5 innings, Whitley County secured a home field advantage for the first round of the 13th Region Tournament. In Round 1 of the 13th Region Tournament, Whitley took down Jackson County and Corbin was victorious over Knox Central. Round 2 brought a loss for Whitley while Corbin beat Clay County and advanced to the final round of the tournament. Winning the championship 9-1, Corbin secured the 13th Region title and advanced to the KHSAA tournament in Lexington in June. On June 2, Corbin lost to Central Hardin in a close game in the first round of the KHSAA tournament. Grace Health is thankful to the coaches and administration of both Corbin and Whitley County for allowing us to reach out to the members of their communities during multiple baseball games this season. We enjoyed the opportunity and look forward to continuing to support area schools.

Outreach Easter Basket Donations

In an effort to show the love of Jesus and encourage employees to reach out to the community, each clinic was asked to organize an Easter basket for a family in need. Our amazing Grace Health employees excitedly jumped at this chance and quickly got to work. Practicing love out loud, some baskets were donated to residents of community nursing homes, Mountain View Nursing Home and Corbin Health and Rehab Center. Additional baskets were prepared for a young man who recently lost his mother, three children being raised by their elderly grandmother, the family of a brave woman who recently moved to Kentucky to escape an abusive relationship, an elderly man raising his four grandkids, and several others. Team leads expressed appreciation for encouraging the clinics to give back to their community. Grace Health is grateful for employees who enjoy giving back to others, just as God gave His Son to us. We are thankful for every employee who worked on this project and for loving our communities the same way Jesus loves us: unconditionally and without hesitation.

Community Health Worker Bill Update: House Bill 525 Signed Into Law In the Quarter 1 newsletter this year, we shared how Grace Health was proud to sponsor House Bill 525 (HB525), also known as the Community Health Worker Bill. This bill was introduced to require Medicaid reimbursement for certain services provided by certified community health workers (CCHWs). Additionally, it aimed to establish CHW certification and direct Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP) to reimburse certain services provided by CCHWs. Grace Health is thrilled to announce that HB525 was signed into law by Governor Beshear on April 7, 2022. and the act will become effective on January 1, 2023.

Gray Clinic Outreach At Grace Health, our mission guides us to show the love of Jesus through compassionate care for the whole person. Usually, our community members need physical or emotional healing but other times, they have needs that can't be met inside the clinic walls. Recently, our Gray Clinic staff recognized a person in such need. Together, they worked on a food drive for this individual and our Outreach team was blessed to deliver 8 bags of food to them. We are grateful to have employees who never hesitate to be the hands and feet of Jesus everywhere they go. Pictured are Shanda Price, Faye Gilbert, Lisa Vandermark, Pattie Couch, Sam Asher, Makenna Knuckles, and Faye Hammons. Many others donated as well that aren’t pictured.

Living the Grace Health Mission To show the love and share the truth of Jesus Christ to southeastern Kentucky, through access to compassionate, high quality, primary health care for the whole person.

with Dr. Ben Vice At Grace Health, we strive every day to live out our mission to share the love of Jesus Christ with southeastern Kentucky. In this edition, we invite you to sit down with Dr. Ben Vice as he shares how providing faithcentered, compassionate health care led to a patient impacting his life as well. Dr. Ben Vice has been a pharmacist with Grace Health for almost two years. He recently moved from the Mt View Pharmacy to the new Levi Center Pharmacy in London, Kentucky. He is married to Dr. Hazelee Vice who started working for Grace Health in February 2022 at the Grace Health Mountain View Pharmacy. Recently, Ben shared an account of a gentleman referred to the pharmacy for diabetes management by Grace Health Mountain View Clinic. We will call this patient John Doe or "JD" for short to protect his privacy. When JD was referred to the pharmacy, Ben learned that he was an insulin-dependent diabetic and also using a GLP1 agonist medication, a medicine given by an injection under the skin. GLP1 medication increases the insulin released from the pancreas, reduces glucose made in the liver, and slows the digestion of food. The specific role of this drug is to help lower blood glucose levels — largely focused on hemoglobin A1C — and to aid in weight loss. While a patient must check their blood glucose levels frequently to ensure that levels are not too low or too high (as both can have severe health consequences), Ben soon learned that JD did not check his blood sugar level at all. Ben reached out to the Patient Care Coordinator at Mountain View Clinic who was able to get a prior authorization approved with a $0 copay for a Freestyle Libre. The Freestyle Libre, a continuous glucose monitoring system that checks glucose levels with a painless one-second scan, will provide JD with real-time glucose alarms if his levels go too low or too high. The pharmacists at Mountain View Pharmacy educated JD about how to use the glucose monitor and placed the sensor on his arm in the clinic. The patient was so appreciative that he broke down in tears and shared that he had never received care like that before. JD has since visited multiple times to share a testimony of his efforts to reach the lost and people who have accepted Jesus into their hearts. Ben shares that it was a joy to help JD with his medical care but the greatest joy came from allowing him to make a difference in the lives of the clinic and pharmacy team.
