Members' Meeting 2024 Briefing

Page 1

Dear Resident Please see highlighted in blue below an additional road closure on 13 April during the 81st Members’ Meeting. Event Opening Times Saturday 13 April: 07:30 – 22:00 Sunday 1 April: 07:30 – 19:00 Event (including installation and extraction) In the interests of public safety, it has been agreed that on Claypit Lane, the week prior to the event and during the event, we will suspend the right turn into the circuit, and the right turn from Westerton Lane. Entry into the main gates of Goodwood Motor Circuit is effective only when approaching from the Rolls-Royce roundabout. Traffic approaching the Motor Circuit from the Woodcote roundabout is directed past the main entrance and access is prohibited along the normal central slip lane. This does however dictate that any traffic exiting Westerton Village, from the junction of Westerton Lane and Claypit Lane (opposite the motor circuit) cannot turn right and northbound towards the Woodcote roundabout. This means that northbound traffic from Westerton should exit the village via the New Road crossroads. During extraction the traffic along Claypit Lane will be heavy during the week following the event and traffic movements will fall away rapidly after that. Normal use of these routes will be unaffected during this time. During the Event The event parking plan necessitates that a number of the fields bordering the event are utilised for public vehicles. In the continued interest of public safety, the following roads are subject to formal Road Closure Notices whilst the event is live. The roads that will be closed are: • • •

New Road Eastbound from Westerton crossroads to Woodcote Roundabout This closure is only effective during the hours of 17:00 until 23:59hrs – however should any issues arise, the closure may be applied any time during the hours of 07:00 until 23:59hrs Westerton Lane at the junction with New Road to stop exiting vehicles using Westerton as a cut through to the A27 Claypit Lane from the Woodcote roundabout to Madgwick Lane, just beyond the Rolls Royce roundabout. This is only effective Sat 15 Apr from 21:00 to 23:30 when a one way system will be in place to allow southbound traffic leaving Goodwood to use both lanes, merging back into one lane before Shelby Drive so there is no effect on the new housing area. Westerton Residents will be able to enter Westerton from the Westerton Cross Roads where traffic marshals will permit entry. Local Residents passes will not be issued/required for Members Meeting

Liaison The aim of Goodwood Road Racing Company is to keep the impact of the event on the local community to an absolute minimum but, as you can appreciate, hosting our events can lead to some logistical issues. For the 80th Members’ Meeting all visitors are reminded to drive appropriately. The event will also be attended by Sussex Police to monitor driving standards. Throughout the year we host a series of meetings and work closely with the Local Authority, Highway Network Services, the Emergency services, the public transport provider and the Local Parish Councils to ensure that the traffic management of the event is as effective and as efficient as possible. If you have any questions, please direct them in the first instance to the Ticket Office on 01243 755055.
