2021/2022 Impact REPORT
As another year comes to an end, we are taking time to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. Thankfully after several tough years, our staff and services are expanding again. Goodwill of Southern Arizona now has over five hundred individuals working to better communities across Southern Arizona. Our workforce development team is on the job daily to provide the frontline case management, job training, job placements, reentry support, tutoring, academic services and more than anything, the time and emotional investment in the adults and kids they work to serve. Your store visits and monetary donations support this wide network of workers devoted to changing the lives of local youth and adults in need. Thank you for another year of generosity and support!

The youth programming we offer Southern Arizona is expanding! Goodwill’s ReEntry team is now offering services for young adults 18-24 with adult or juvenile justice system involvement. The team offers skills development and paid work placements to get young people back on their feet and on a path to sustained success. In the coming year, we are also launching two new Metro Youth Centers. One at our Kolb and 22nd location and another at our store on West Ina. Each of our youth centers offers drop-in and long term support services to local youth that may need tutoring or access to academic support, food assistance, personal and career guidance or just a safe place to be. For over 50 years the Goodwill team has been on the ground making a positive impact. We are honored to serve the great people of Southern Arizona!

Alex has been with Goodwill for over 3 years now. Initially starting out with our Youth Restoration Project, he was introduced to soft skills, professionalism, workplace expectations along with basic maintenance and handyman skills. Working with our maintenance team, Alex developed skills with his hands and started to build confidence over time. More importantly, Alex was finding his pathway to sobriety and stability at home and at work with the help of our staff. Goodwill provided a routine and consistency but Alex did all the hard work required and kept at it.

“Thankfully
The Youth Restoration team also encouraged Alex to pursue his academic goals, by working with our Goodwill Academic Services team. After much trial and tribulation, Alex was able to successfully attain his GED! He showed a great deal of determination to do so, balancing his work and personal life in order to make time to pursue his education. It was a major accomplishment for Alex but he didn’t stop there. By taking advantage of another great program we offer, Alex started working with our Young Adult ReEntry team to look for a career path that suited his skills and interests. Within a few weeks our team placed Alex with Tanzillo and Sons Custom Builders and he has not looked back since. Alex continues to come and work with our staff but we are happy to announce he is fully employed and working in a field he loves and has a talent for! Congrats young man, well deserved.
Goodwill supported me 100%, I have lots of good mentors here that always ask about my sobriety and how I am doing and just checking in on me.”

Zero Waste Collection Drives
FALL AND SPRING EVENTS
APRIL 2022 - SOUTH TUCSON

NOVEMBER 2022 - MIDTOWN
Goodwill is a Proud founding member of the Tucson Zero Waste Collection initiative.

HOW DOES GOODWILL Contribute?
The Zero Waste Tucson’s collection events all started with a meeting between Goodwill, the City of Tucson and Mrs. Green’s World. We thought...How could we help provide a resource to the community while educating Southern Arizona on where to safely and responsibly reuse and recycle common household items? We came up with an informative Zero Waste collection drive and so far Tucson has embraced it. You will now find Goodwill at every event collecting clothing and small household good alongside with other organizations collecting, old medications, scrap metal, paper shredding and more.
Our team manages and maintains the event website and provides volunteer and support services for both the Spring and Fall events.

HOW DOES GOODWILL SUPPORT?

Goodwill is proud to support the DREAM Job Fair! With three full-time staff on the committee, we support DREAM in a number of ways. The DREAM committee is a positive community collaboration between multiple agencies, organizations and municipalities. At Goodwill of Southern Arizona, we host and maintain the event website, help manage the finances and any invoicing and support marketing and outreach efforts. For the Spring event this past year, we stepped up and provided a fully virtual job fair platform and managed all the online group sessions, which were attended by hundreds of local job seekers.
Our Fall event this October was our first in-person DREAM event since COVID. With over 250 jobseekers and dozens of top local employers and employment resources, the event was a major success! Learn more about this great collaboration at:

Sergiofirst connected with our Goodwill Metro/REC Youth Re-Engagement Centers through a referral from a community partner. At the time he was receiving housing support from our partner and was looking to gain employment experience for the first time. When Sergio first visited our Goodwill REC Youth Center, he was shy, quiet and kept to himself. It was apparent that he lacked confidence and had previously been in toxic situations, but he was looking to improve. He was adamant on needing to be more engaging and connect with others so that it could benefit him to prepare for being in a work environment.
Goodwill staff was able to connect him to the Edge Training Program, a program that helped with learning skills he needed for the work environment like customer service, leadership and personal development. With continued support from our Goodwill staff, Sergio was also able to gain experience with communication skills, interview skills and how to make a good first impression and was given an opportunity to interview for Goodwill’s Opportunity Youth Work Experience Program.
Sergio was selected for an on-site position at Sam Levitz and was provided with items to get him started on the right track. Sergio was also able to attend the Bank of America Better Money Habits workshop to learn about credit, savings and how to prepare for the future. Utilizing the aforementioned skills and trainings, Sergio successfully completed the Opportunity Youth Work Experience program and gained full-time employment with Walmart. He has re-connected with behavioral health services and is preparing to move into his very own apartment soon.
Sergio’s journey continues forward but with the support on behalf of the Opportunity Youth Work Experience program, he has learned a new sense of confidence. He has managed to build stability within employment, housing and self-worth to lead himself into his future.
