Medusa Madrid Red Tomoko Nagao, stencil art su tela, pezzo unico, 110x100 cm, 2017

“Un’artista è una persona che produce cose di cui la gente non ha bisogno, ma che lui, per qualche ragione, pensa sia buona idea dar loro” (Andy Warhol) Neopop art draws from the ability to always convey messages sprinkled with ethical and social value, through an implied critical analysis of contemporary society, transforming them into icons with a strong emotional impact, hence the title of the exhibition. Focus is given to Massimo Giacon’s comic superheroes and his “sampling of comic icons”, which every counter-culture artist aspires to, Marco Lodola – one of the first Italian pop artists who foresaw and seized superhero flair and images from TV and print with his light box, Pao and his famous penguins from street art culture and urban décor, and Cardena’s zoomorphic and ultra-contemporary creatures. There are also the latest neopop trends by Mr. Brainwash - known for his collaborations with the great Banksy, also by Mr. Savethewall and the american artist, famous exponent of street art, Shepard Fairey, known as Obey. In Watermelon Sutra by Matteo Guarnaccia, we find memories and components that refer to the years when these “heroes,” myths and legends were created and launched. There is the redeeming neo-primitivism in Keith Haring’s art brut. Asian culture is seen with manga and anime sampled and reworked by Giacon in Manga Heroes Mix, a sign of the consolidated economic and cultural power of emerging Asia, also reiterated in works by the great master Takashi Murakami. Large-scale consumption icons are synthesized by Tomoko Nagao - a disciple of Murakami and Nara, and a leading figure in the Japanese Superflat trend, a mix between vectorial and technological art, stencil art, and painting. “An artist is somebody who produces things that people don’t need to have but that he – for some reason – thinks it would be a good idea to give them” Andy Warhol. deodato-arte.it
