Në udhëtimin e jetës njeriu ndalet, mediton dhe vendos këtu do jetoj. Ndaj bash për këtë arsye ai ndërton strehën, e bën vetë ose e blen atë që ka ndërtuar dikush tjetër. Dhe një ditë ai hyn atje, lë frymën, ndërton ëndërrimet, krijon familjen, sjell fëmijët në jetë, përcjell ata që ikin në botën tjetër.

Si thonë në veriun tonë epik: “Shtëpia e shqiptarit është e Mikut dhe e Zotit!” Ky premtim është më shumë se një kod, ka brenda gjithçka, socialitetin dhe besimin, paqen dhe lutjen, ritualin dhe sakramentin, njerëzoren dhe hyjnoren, mikëpritjen dhe detyrimin zakonor tipik shqiptar. Është simfoni humane shprehja ”A pret miq, o i zoti shpisë...?”

In the journey of life, the mankind stops, meditates and decides where he wants to live.

Then he builds a shelter, made by himself or buys one that was built from other people. And one day he moves in, lives, builds dreams, creates a family, brings children to life, and says farewell and accompanies those transitioning in the afterlife.

People in our epic north say: ‘The house of the Albanian is the house of the Guest and the Lord!’

This promise is more than a code; it covers everything, society and faith, peace and prayer, ritual and sacrament, human and divinity, hospitality and the customary obligation of every Albanian. The expression ‘Do you welcome Guests, you, the owner of this house?’ is his human symphony.

Ansambli i ndërtimeve të shtëpive të banimit bart stilet e ndryshme dhe qytetërimet, shpreh mbi dhe nënshtresat kulturore. Mjafton t'i shohësh fotografitë me vëmendje dhe kupton komunikimin me botën. Çdo banesë ka një histori e shpesh më shumë se një. Takon atje shtegtarin dhe atë që i është rrëmbyer shtëpia nga barbaria diktatoriale… Takon dhe të huajin që bujt dhe dashurohet me atë qytet dhe me ata njerëz dhe vendos të qëndrojë aty, duke ndërtuar edhe ai strehën e vet. Shkodra ka një magnetizëm të çuditshëm njerëzor, që ushqehet nga kultura, që dhuron tolerancën dhe që përqafon të ndryshmen me një mirëseardhje shumë elegante.

Shkodra me historinë e saj i ka paraprirë ndryshimet duke parë larg, drejt zhvillimit, pavarësisht nga vinte ai. … Shqiptari e do truallin e vet, e do “kasollen” apo shtëpinë e tij, kullën apo ndërtesën e banimit sepse Ai e do atdheun, e respekton kujtimin e të parëve, e adhuron familjen. Në atë shtëpi dikur ai bashkëjetoi edhe me bagëtinë, atje punonte dhe krijonte përmes mbarështimit të tyre si dhe zhvilloi artizanantin. Kultura artizane ka “rrënjë dhe fruta” prandaj krijoi dhe dhuroi traditë në jetën e qytetit të Shkodrës. Koha ecën, zhvillohet shoqëria dhe në ndërtesën e banimit gjejmë më vonë tregtimin si pjesë e sektorit të shërbimeve dhe daljes në treg.

Do të kishte qenë me vlera që të shihnim dhe interierin e tyre, pasi do t’na ndihmonte të kuptonim jetën e gjallë familjare, orenditë, zbukurimin, biblotekat, dhe komunikimin. Nëse sheh me vemendje këtë album, mund të njihesh me historinë e njerëzve që e gjallojnë jetën e qytetit,

The ensemble of residential dwellings features different styles and civilizations. It expresses all cultural layers. If you look at the pictures attentively, you will understand the communication with the entire world. Each dwelling has a story: often more than one. There, you meet the pilgrim and at the same time the one who has been kidnapped by the dictatorial barbarian... you meet the foreigner who has been shown hospitality, who fell in love with the city and its people, and decided to stay there and built his own house.

Shkodra has such a strange human magnetism, nourished by a culture that offers tolerance and embraces differences with an elegant welcome.

Shkodra with its history prepared for change by looking forward, towards development, no matter where it came from. ... The Albanian loves his land, loves his ‘hut’ or home, his ‘Kulla’ or residential dwelling because he loves homeland, respects the memory of the ancestors, worships the family. Once upon a time, in that same house, the Albanian lived with his cattle, raised and bred them, and created different crafts. The crafts culture has ‘roots and fruits’. As such it created and donated tradition to the life of the city of Shkodra. As time went by, and society developed, we find the first signs of trade happening from these dwellings, providing a service and getting the products to market.

It is worth looking at the interior of the buildings as they help us to understand the family life,

This was the extent of the city of Shkodra about 150 years ago.

According to albanologist Robert Elsie, the photo was taken by Viennese photographer Josef Székely during the Austro-Hungarian expedition to northern Albania, Kosova and Macedonia. The expedition was led by the German albanologist Johann Georg von Hahn.

Shpesh shtëpia identifikohet me emrin e një personi si të thuash me atë “të themeluesit” ose me emrin e familjes, duke vijuar në vite me trashëgimtarët e saj. Krijohen kështu gjurmë antropologjike që të dhurojnë një kënaqësi sa herë që e shqipton se e kujt është ajo shtëpi. Mjafton kaq dhe menjëherë ndërtohet historia e saj dhe e familjes që ka jetuar atje në breza. Në këtë mënyrë shpaloset në një farë kuptimi edhe një pjesë e historisë së qytetit.

“Kujtesa ka gjithnjë të drejtë” thonin hebrenjtë e vjetër. Shumë e saktë. Falë këtyre fotografive ne njohim godinat, lagjet dhe rrugët, rrugicat dhe hapësirat qytetase, ato që janë ende dhe ato që nuk ekzistojnë më. Kuptojmë nëse planet e rregullimit urbanistik të qytetit kanë qenë të mirëmenduara apo ata kanë parë vetëm deri te nevojat imediate të strehimit në një kohë të caktuar… Sheh këto foto dhe një pyetje të ngacmon thellë… ajo do të dalë jashtë për të ngritur kryet e për të gjetur përgjigjen: Shkodra që kemi sot, sa ngjan ajo me vetveten, sa histori të konservuar ka në të? A është organik si qytet, apo për shkak të shembjeve ka humbur nga shkëlqimi i dikurshëm dhe nga autenticiteti që të lejon të kuptosh se cili është ky qytet dhe nga cilët njerëz është banuar?!

Jo rrallë ndërhyrjet e administratës e godasin rëndë ëndërrimin e qytetit dhe morfologjinë e tij urbane, ndaj së paku tani në këtë sistem të lirisë të ruhet dhe mirëmbahet, të rikostruktohet dhe të

furnishings, decorations, libraries, and communication. If you look carefully at this album, you get to know the story of people who gave life to the city, gave the city its character, ritual and dignity, and created their personal stories, the stories of the Shkodra’s families. Often the home is identified by a person’s name, ‘the founder’ or by the family name, which continues with his heirs through the years. So they become anthropological traces that give pleasure whenever you pronounce whose home it is. This is enough to start putting together the history of the dwelling and of the family that has lived there for generations. This is how some of the city’s history has unfolded.

‘Memory is always right’ the old Hebrews used to say. Correct! Thanks to these pictures we know what the buildings looked like. We get a glimpse of the neighbourhoods and streets, the narrow streets and squares of the city, what is still there and what no longer exists. We come to understand whether the urban planning were well thought or they were used for the immediate needs of the time... You see these pictures and can’t help asking: ‘How much does Shkodra, the city we have today, look like itself, how much history has been preserved in it?’ Is it an organic city or has it, or due to collapses has lost some of its former glory and authenticity that would allow us to understand the city and the people that have inhabited it.

Sometimes the administration’s interventions can severely affect the city’s dream and its urban morphology, so now in this age of freedom it is important to preserve and maintain, reconstruct

ripërtërihet gjithçka që bart dhe shpreh histori, kohë, hapësirë dhe lëvizje të periudhave të qytetërimit dhe civilizimeve. Edhe një godinë ndërton kujtesë, edhe një fasadë shpresh stad zhvillimi, edhe një çati apo ballkon flet shumë për interesat dhe motivimet në jetë. Edhe një foto godine banimi është një histori. Dhjetëra të tilla janë historia e qytetit të Shkodrës pa të cilin Shqipëria do të ishte e mangët… Nga sot ne kemi një galeri me foto për qytetin në këndvështrimin e godinës së banimit, ndaj ndjehemi mirë dhe kemi detyrimin për të falënderuar njerëzit që ndër shekuj u ngulën këtu dhe i dhanë qytetit gjithçka, mundin, shpirtin, idetë, jetën dhe investmin… aq sa nuk u ndalën që për shkollimin e fëmijëve ta falnin godinën e shtëpisë së tyre… Për këto arsye Shkodra është unikale, e barabartë me veten.

and renew everything that carries and expresses history, time, space and movement of all civilizations. Buildings embody memories, even a façade shows a certain stage of development, or a roof or balcony which tells a lot about the interests and motivations in life... Even a photo of a residential dwelling tells a story.

There are dozens of such stories in the city of Shkodra without which Albania would be deficient...

From today we have a photo gallery of the city seen through the residential dwellings, so we feel good and we have an obligation to thank those people who for centuries settled down here and gave the city everything; their labour, their soul, their ideas, their life and their investment... and when it came to educating children they even offered their own homes to be used as schools.

For these reasons Shkodra is unique.

Gratitude… Shkodraloce!

Një pamje e mrekullueshme e Fushë-Çelës, marrë nga minareja e xhamisë. Në të dy anët dallohen shtëpitë e stilit neoklasik italian, ndërtime të fundit të shekullit XIX dhe fillimit të shekullit XX. Në kohën e mbretërisë, lulishtja në qendër quhej ” Parku Zogu I” . Më vonë ajo u quajt Parku ” Luigj Gurakuqi” . Aktualisht, vetëm një pjesë e këtij parku vazhdon të funksionojë si i tillë, pasi në të trija anët e tij, me përjashtim të pjesës lindore, vazhdojnë të ndërtohen pallate.

A wonderful view of Fushë-Çelë, taken from the minaret of the mosque.

On both sides of the photo are shown neoclassical Italian houses, constructions of the late 19th and early 20th century. At the time of the kingdom, the park in the center was called ‘Zogu I’ Park. Later it was called ‘Luigj Gurakuqi’ Park. Currently, only a part of this park continues to function as such, because in all three sides, with the exception of the eastern part, are still being constructed new buildings.

Qyteti që ka ekzistuar një herë, ekziston përgjithmonë

Metodologjia

Vënia përballë e jetës para viteve ‘90-të dhe sot, edhe pse në një hark kohor jo më shumë se çerek shekulli, tregon një ndryshim të madh në mënyrën e jetesës. Ky ndryshim socio-ekonomik ka reflektuar ndjeshëm edhe te transformimi i banesës në formë dhe funksionin që ajo mbart. Pikërisht për të ruajtur këtë kujtesë që me ngadalë po zhduket u nis konkursi mbi fotografitë para viteve 90-të mbi banesat shkodrane.

Ky është një konkurs i fotografisë së banesës dhe jo specifikisht i familjeve apo i banesës vetë. Nga konkursi i shpallur në Dhjetor 2017 u grumbulluan 165 fotografi nga 37 konkurrentë. Pasi u përpunuan me kujdes, fotografitë u përzgjodhën nga juria e përbërë prej 5 anëtarë: z. Përparim Kabo (filozof, antropolog), znj. Lumturi Blloshmi (piktore), z. Zef Çuni (arkitekt), z. Shpend Bengu (artist vizual) dhe z. Kreshnik Merxhani (arkitekt restaurator).

Rreth 40 fotografi u zgjodhën për album bazuar mbi kriteret: e vjetërsisë së banesës/fotografisë, historisë së banesës/fotografisë dhe realizimit estetik të fotografisë. Albumi ndahet në tre kapituj sipas tematikave të përcaktuara: familja, shtëpia, historia.

Secila nga fotografitë është përfshirë në kapitullin përkatës në varësi të rrëfimit gojor të zotëruesve të fotografisë. Kështu rrëfimet e fotove të kapitullit “Familja” fokusohen tek gëzimet dhe hidhërimet familjare, rrëfimet e fotove të kapitullit “Shtëpia” lidhen kryesisht me arkitekturën dhe formën fizike të banesës, ndërsa rrëfimet e fotove të kapitullit

Methodology A major change in lifestyle is shifting in a period of no more than a quarter of a century, if we compare it before the ‘90s to nowadays. This socio-economic change has also considerably reflected the building’s transformations in terms of shape and function. Given the reason of preserving the memories, which unfortunately are disappearing, a photo contest was launched in relation to the Shkodra’s buildings before the 1990s.

This is a competition about the photos of buildings and not about the families or the buildings themselves. It was announced on December 2017, and 165 photos from 37 competitors were collected. The photos were selected by a jury composed of 5 members: Prof.

Dr. Përparim Kabo (philosopher, anthropologist), Ms. Lumturi Blloshmi (painter), Mr. Zef Çuni (architect), Mr. Shpend Bengu (visual artist) and Mr. Kreshnik Merxhani (architect restorer). About 40 photos were selected for the album based on the criterias: photography aging, photography history and aesthetic realization of photography.

The album is divided into three chapters according to the themes: family, home, history.

Each picture is included in the relevant chapter depending on the oral narrative of the owners.

Thus, the stories of the chapter ‘Family’ focus on family joys and sorrows, the stories about “House” chapter are related mainly to the architecture and

“Historia” kanë në qendër funksionin tjetër që ka luajtur banesa, shpeshherë si një institucion, ku janë zhvilluar ngjarje me protagonistë personalitete të jetës publike në nivel lokal e kombëtar.

Ndërsa renditja e fotove është sipas kriteret kohor, pra nis me foton që daton më e vjetra deri te më të rejat. Informacionet që i shoqërojnë fotot janë sjellë nga konkurrentët dhe vertetësia e këtij informacioni mbetet përgjegjësi e prurërsve të fotografive.

Qyteti si vend i kujtesës kolektive Shkodra është një vendbanim që zë fill te kujtesa kolektive e hershme, te gojëdhëna. Qyteti është një vend (locus) i kujtesës kolektive dhe si i tillë, ai shoqërohet me artefaktet urbane, të cilat parimisht bazohen te: vazhdimësia, arkitektura dhe historia.

Le t’i qasim me radhë: “Familja si vazhdimësi”.

Nëse synojmë të zhvendosim kujtesën nga një vend, atëherë kjo mbetet një përpjekje për të krijuar një vend (locus) artificialisht. Vazhdimësia duhet të marrë pjesë në transformimin e hapësirës, që është gjithmonë e kushtëzuar nga realiteti.

“Shtëpia si arkitekturë”. Arkitektura e banesës shkodrane ruan estetikisht proporcionet e volumit, qoftë brenda vetë banesës (plani dhe lartësia), qoftë brenda ansamblit të vet arkitektonik mes banesës dhe oborrit, si dhe strukturës komplekse urbane (grup banesash). Arkitektura e baneses së vjetër shkodrane, të ndërtuar deri para viteve 1940të është e stilit oriental me shtëpinë “me çardak” dhe ajo më moderne e stilit neoklasik.

“Historia si kujtesë kolektive”. Vlera e historisë parë si kujtesë kolektive, si marrëdhënie e kolektives me vendin ndihmon në rëndësinë e strukturës urbane, por edhe të arkitekturës si një formë e individualitetit.

Ky individualitet është ngjarje dhe formë. Arkitekti krijon formën e banesës, banesa (artefakti) formon kujtesën kolektive të njerëzve. Kjo dikotomi ngjiz qytetin që nga fillesa deri në përjetësi. Sepse çka ka ekzistuar një herë, ekziston përgjithmonë.

the physical shape of the building, meanwhile the stories of the chapter ‘History’ have concentrated on the other functions of the dwelling. It has been an institution where events with protagonists of public life personalities at local and national level were held.

City as a collective memory Shkodra is a settlement that begins with the early collective memories of the myths. The city is a locus of collective memory and as such, it is compound by urban artifacts, which basically are based on: permanence, architecture and history.

Let’s approach them: ‘Family as permanence’. If we intend to dislocate memory from a site, then this remains an attempt to create an artificial locus.

The permanence must take part in the space transformation, which is always conditioned by reality.

‘Dwellings as Architecture’. The architecture of Shkodra’s houses preserves aesthetically the proportions of volume, either within the house itself (plans and height) or within its architectural ensemble between the house and the yard, and the urban complex structure (group of houses).

The architecture of the old house, built before the 1940s, is an oriental style house with ‘çardak’ and that of the modernist neoclassical style. ‘History as a collective memory’. The history value seen as collective memory, as a collective relationship to its place, which helps to understand the relevance of urban structure, but also of architecture as a form of individuality. This individuality is an event and a shape. The architect creates the shape of the building, the dwellings’ (artifact) create the collective memory of the people. This dichotomy evokes the city from its beginnings to eternity. Because what has existed once, exists forever.

Even today, 70 years later, the plate ‘Llujej’ street is located in the same place as in this photo.

The house of Lluja family is one of the oldest buildings in the city of Shkodra, declared a culture monument of 1st category, of about 280-300 years old. It carries architectonic and historical values, extended on a surface of 2160m2, surrounded by high stone walls of 3m, with a large entry gate with two shutters and characteristic wooden window. In the backyard there were a 2-storey tower for horses and livestock, shop and bakery (and 1 water mill) and two wells.

Behind it is the home of Xhevdet Tirana, a 2-storey house, built around the 1750’s, with a big porch and stone stairs. During the wars of the beginning of the twentieth centurythe porch served as an observation site for the army located in Fushë-Çelë. The house was knocked down to build buildings during the totalitarian system.

Ms. Xhevo Halili was from Tivar (Bar, Montenegro) and married in Shkodra. The photo is taken during the moment of the arrival of her brother Mr. Sali Karagjyzeviç for the first time in Albania after 35 yearsdue to the closure of the borders. The house exists and is divided between two brothers. Half of the house it is well preserved, where it is distinguished the winter corner, stone stairs with arches, the porch, ceiling rooms etc. In 1973, it was declared Monument of Culture, 1st category.

The photo has become known to Mr. Engjëll Çeka by Mr. Luan Rama.

Nga kjo shtëpi kanë dalë klerikë të shquar, si Dom Ndre Plani, bashkëpunëtor i ngushtë i Atë Gjergj Fishtës, një nga 38 klerikët e shpallur martirë nga Papa Françesku I në prag të vizitës së tij në Shqipëri, në vitin 2014.

Mr. Lec Plani, Mr. Lekë's father, photographed at the age of 25 in his house yard. In the background, at the entrance of the house, is shown his brother, Mr. Bernardin. Mr. Lec Plani, Honorary Citizenship of Shkodra was a doctor, while Ms. Liljana Plani was a physicist.

The house built about 250 years ago with river stones was surrounded by a yard and a garden of about 950 m2 planted with numerous trees and flowers. From this house have come prominent clerics, such as Dom Ndre Plani, a close associate of Father Gjergj Fishta and one of the 38 clerics proclaimed martyr by Pope Francis I on the eve of his visit to Albania in 2014.

Banesa 2-katëshe me çati është blerë nga z. Adem Tahiri (sot Shkreli), rreth viteve 1870-1880, i cili punonte si bukëpjekës. Pas vdekjes së prindërve në moshë të re, 5 fëmijët jetimë u detyruan të jetonin me të ardhurat e qerasë së shtëpisë për vite të tëra. Në periudha të caktuara kohore në këtë shtëpi kanë qëndruar: komanda austriake, komanda gjermane e italiane, z. Hasan Riza Pasha, z. Hasan Prishtina mbi 1 vit rreth vitit 1920, ministri i brendshëm z. Ahmet Zogu ka qëndruar 2-3 netë, e derisa më 1929-1940 u vendos Dr. Hasan Kaduku me klinikën e tij dentare. Më 1965 sistemi i kohës ua shpronësoi një pjesë të madhe të oborrit dhe në vijim të praktikës së sekuestrimeve strehoi në katin e sipërm kushëririn e tij.

The 2-storey house with roof was purchased by Mr. Adem Tahiri (today Shkreli), during the years 1870-1880, who worked as a baker. After the death of his parents in a young age, 5 orphaned children had to live with the incomes of the rent of the house for years. At certain times in this house have stayed: Austrian Command, German and Italian Command, Mr. Hasan Riza Pasha, Mr. Hasan Prishtina over 1 year around 1920, the Minister of Interior, Mr. Ahmet Zogu stayed 2-3 overnights from 1929 to 1940 when was settled Dr. Hasan Kaduku with his dental clinic. In 1965 the communist system expropriated a large part of the yard, and following the practice of seizure, housed his cousin’s family on the upper floor.

Ms. Fitnete Lluja and the nephew Reshat Kali. The house of Lluja family is one of the oldest buildings in the city of Shkodra, declared a culture monument of 1st category, of about 280-300 years old. It carries architectonic and historical values, extended on a surface of 2160m2, surrounded by high stone walls of 3m, with a large entry gate with two shutters and characteristic wooden window. In the backyard there were a 2-storey tower for horses and livestock, shop and bakery (and 1 water mill) and two wells.

Banesa 2-katëshe ka qenë mjaft luksoze, me shkallë të mëdha të brendshme, me shumë dhoma, dekore të jashtme në fasadë e mure rrethuese prej guri. Kjo familje e madhe tregtare u persekutua gjatë sistemit komunist dhe pronat iu sekuestruan. Rreth viteve 2010 shtëpia u shemb, duke pësuar fatin e pallateve shumëkatëshe prej betoni.

After the earthquake in 1905, the family moved from the neighborhood “Tepe” and bought this house that passed it onto his two sons: Mr. Abdyl and Mr. Man. The 2-storey house has been quite luxurious, with large interior stairs, with many rooms, exterior decorations on the façade and surrounding walls. This great merchant family was persecuted during the communist system and its properties were seized. Kjo shtëpi është ndërtuar rreth fundit të shekullit XIX dhe ka shërbyer si fjetore për priftërinjtë e fshatrave. Qendra është menaxhuar nga Dom Ernest Çoba. Me ndërrimin e sistemeve, banesa u lëshua me qera për qytetarët dhe më 1956, z. Ndrekë Volaj e blinte dhe do të jetonte aty deri vonë. Aktualisht banesa nuk ekziston pasi është dhënë për ndërtim pallati shumëkatësh.

Z. Ndrekë Volaj së bashku me dy djemtë e axhës: Patër Vitor Volaj (sekretar i At Gjergj Fishtës) dhe Dom Gjergj Volaj (arqipeshkv i Sapës, pushkatuar më 1947) rrezikonin të mbartnin këtë mbiemër dhe detyrohen ta ndryshojnë mbiemrin nga Volaj në Franje.

This house was built around the end of the XIX century, and has served as a dormitory for the priests of the villages in the surrounding.

The house is managed by Dom Ernest Çoba. With the changes of the systems, it was leased to the citizens, and in 1956 it was sold to Ndrekë Volaj. Mr. Ndrekë Volaj along with two of his cousins: Father Vitor Volaj (secretary of Father Gjergj Fishta) and Dom Gjergj Volaj (Archbishop of Sapa, shot in 1947) were threatened to carry this surname and were forced to change the it from Volaj to Franje.

Currently the house does not exist, because are being constructed new building.

Shtëpia në foto është vetëm njëra nga kompleksi i shtëpive të mëdha të familjes Gjonaj, përballë Katedrales, në Serreq. Madje vetë Katedralja, që i përket mesit të shekullit XIX, është ndërtuar në tokën që kjo familje, përmes z. Marin Gjonejt, i ka dhuruar kishës katolikë për këtë qëllim.

Gjonejt kanë ardhur në Shkodër ne mesin e shekullit XVIII, çka vërtetohet në librin e pagëzimeve të vitit 1760. Në atë kohë, qyteti ishtë vetëm në lagjet e vjetra përreth Kalasë (Qafë, Ajasëm).

Pas shembjes së kësaj shtëpie të madhe në vitet e fundit, disa pasardhës të Gjonejve vazhdojnë të jetojnë në shtëpitë e tjera ngjitur me të.

The house in the photo is just one of the complexes of large houses of the Gjonaj family, in front of the Cathedral in Serreq.

Even the cathedral, belonging in the mid-nineteenth century, was built on the land of this family, Mr. Marin Gjonejt, donated to the Catholic Church for this purpose.

Gjonej came to Shkodra in the mid-18th century, which it is confirmed in the baptismal book of 1760. At that time, the city existed only in the old neighborhoods around the Castle (Qafa, Ajasëm). Recently, after the great house destroyed, some descendants of the Gjionej family continue to live in other houses near to it.

The Saverian College (today, ‘Pjetër Meshkalla’ Gymnasium) opened its activity in Shkodra in the mid-19th century. They brought a great contribution in cultural and social activities, such as: the establishment of the first printing house, the creation of the first musical band and modern orchestras, the launch of dramatic art, the flourishing of cultural, patriotic and sports associations, the gathering of the famous numismatic collection, etc. A special endeavor remains the valuable work on the history of Albania "Illyricum Sacrum". The seminar was closed in 1947 with the arrival of communism, to be re-opened again in 1991.

Students of the girls’ school Hodo Pasha at the end of the school year 1942-1943. Some of the teachers were: Ms. Katerina Doda, Ms. Çile Ndoja, Ms. Hajrije Kraja, Ms. Viktoria Kosmaçi, Ms. Luigjina Gjyshja, Ms. Safete Leskoviku, Mrs. Mrika Xhoxha etc. Some of the school principals were Mr. Et’hem Osmani, Mr. Hysen Lohja and others. This secular school opened in 1925, along with the boys’ school “Oso Kuka” in the same neighborhood. The school changed the location several times due to the increase of the number of pupils. Photo during the parade of ‘May Day’, International Workers’ Day, where were organized big celebrations. Young people march with working tools in hand (like pickaxes, shovels etc.). Lots of citizens gathered to see this parade. ‘Kafe Adriatik’ was located on the side of ‘Kafja e Madhe’, where today the post office is. The 2-storey building serves as a bar on the ground floor, while on the ground floor for residential use.

Pazari i Vjetër ishte vendosur në afërsi të qytetit të vjetër, poshtë Kalasë së Rozafës e në breg të liqenit në Shkodër. Si një prej pazareve më të mëdha në Ballkan, ai kishte rreth 1500 dugaja, 8 banka dhe lidhej me gjithë vendet e rajonit përmes transportit ujor. Pazari i stilit oriental nënkuptonte që aty prodhoheshin produktet dhe aty shiteshin. Në vitet ’60-të rregjimi komunist e shkatërroi pazarin duke i zhdukur artefaktin më të çmuar të qytetit që dëshmonte tërë ngritjen e zhvillimin ekonomik të veriut të vendit.

Mid of the 1940s, The Old Bazaar, Shkodra, Albania.

The Old Bazaar was located near the old town, down the Rozafa Castle on the shore of Shkodra Lake. As one of the biggest bazaars in the Balkans, it contained about 1,500 shops, 8 banks connected to all the countries of the Region through water transport. The oriental style bazaar meant that the products were produced and sold at the same place. In the 1960s, the communist regime destroyed it by extinguishing the city's most precious artifacts that witnessed the entire economic development of the northern city.

The building was owned by the Hebovija family, which and at the time of shooting the picture was seized by the communist state to turn into the School Against Illiteracy. Then, the ‘10 Korriku’ school was opened, and later it was turned into a Calculation Center.

Shtëpia e z. Hodo Pashë Sokolit, patriot e luftëtar dhe veprimtar i Lidhjes së Prizrenit. Një shtëpi e madhe 2-katëshe me bahçe e kopësht të madh që kishte mbi 120 rrënjë pemë frutore. I biri z. Isuf Sokoli ishte diplomat e kishte 8 fëmijë, të cilët me ardhjen e regjimit komunist, u persekutuan nëpër burgje e internime. Aktualisht shtëpia është e braktisur, vetëm gjysma e saj ekziston ende në gjendje të mjerueshme, edhe pse është monument kulture i kategorisë I (i shpallur rreth viteve ’70-të).

House of Hodo Sokoli, patriot, warrior and activist of the League of Prizren. It is a large 2 storey house with a wide garden with over 120 fruit trees. His son, Mr. Isuf Sokoli was a diplomat and had 8 children who, with the arrival of the communist regime were persecuted with imprisonment and deportation. Currently, the house is abandoned, only half of it is still in a deplorable state, although it is Monument of Culture, 1st category (declared around the 70s).

Banesa 2-katëshe me stil neo-klasikka një pamje panoramike të veçantë, e ndërtuar në kodër me pamje përballë Liqenit mes selvive e gjelbërimit ku ngjitesh përmes dhjetëra shkallëve të jashtme në natyrë. Në vijim, gjatë regjimit monist ajo kaloi në favor të shtetit dhe u shndërrua në Kamp pushimi për pionierët derisa më2013 i kthehet Princit Leka Zogu II. Renata and teacher Suzana from Tirana, photographed at Zogu’s Villa in Shiroka (then the pioneer vacation Camp). King Ahmet Zogu’s Villa was built in 1925 in the neighborhood by the Lake of Shkodra, as a gift from the merchants of Shkodra. The 2-story, neo-classic building style has a unique panoramic view, built on a hill overlooking the Lake in between the woods and the greenery, where you can climb through dozens of outdoor stairs. During the monist regime, itwas seized by the state and became a pioneering holiday camp until in 2013 when it was returned to Prince Leka Zogu II. Current Status: Exists Courtesy of: Renata Musheza

Është një ndërtim monumental i shek XIX që i dedikohet familjes së Gjonmarkajve. Ka një stil mjaft elegant që tërheq vëmendjen e vizitorëve të huaj. Pranë saj ndodhet dhe banesa e kësaj familjeje, por që ka pësuar ndryshime të rëndësishme në raport me strukturën fillestare. Si familje e pasur do ndërtonin një shtëpi në Shkodër, si qendra e madhe ekonomike e Veriut dhe ishte e vetmja banesë me kullë, për të treguar pushtetin që mbartnin.

Ms. Alma Bazhdari Naraçi with her daughter Ms. Ani Naraçi 3-year old. In the background is the house of Gjon Markagjon. The house is located in the center of the city of Shkodra.

It is a 19th century monumental building dedicated to the family of Gjonmarkaj. There is a fairly stylish style that attracts the attention of foreign visitors. Next to it is the dwelling of this family, but has undergone significant changes in relation to the initial structure. As a wealthy family, they built a home in Shkodra, the North’s largest economic center, and it was the only flat tower to show the power they carried.
