INFANTS In Year 1, we have started our new topic, ‘A Day in the Life’, where we explore lots of different jobs and the skills needed for those jobs. What a great start to Term 2! On Thursday 9th January, we came in to school dressed in uniforms worn by people who do the jobs we would like to to do when we are older. We came as doctors, pilots, nurses, firefighters, astronauts to name but a few of the jobs represented on this special ‘Dress Up Day’. We met up for a business lunch to discuss our skills. At the end of the term we will be putting all the skills we have learnt to the test by taking on the roles, and performing the jobs, of the different people involved in organising a tea party!

JUNIORS The end of last term was full of extra-curricular activities for Year 5! First, we hosted a Meteorological Expo for parents, students and other teachers to come and see all the work we had been doing on weather and climate as part of our IPC topic. 5MU made posters, 5ML had an experiment station that demonstrated how to make rain from a cloud using food colouring and shaving foam, 5MG presented powerpoints of their research, 5MF had live weather reports and a colouring activity for the younger year groups to participate in and 5MS made a weather escape room! There was such a creative range of exhibitions and everyone who attended was impressed by the students’ knowledge. After this exciting day, year 5 then took part in a Science day in the Secondary school. With the help of the Secondary Science teachers, we conducted an experiment called “Shark Attack”. The students were measuring the amount of time it took for ‘blood’ (water with food colouring) to diffuse through water of different temperatures. It was an interesting and interactive experiment and was a great experience to be learning in a real Science lab, using technical Science equipment! In the final week of term, we had a pyjama and popcorn day to reward students who had stuck to the school’s core values this term. Finally, the Arabic department planned some fun and informative activities for us to celebrate Qatar National Day. We decorated posters, completed activity booklets and took part in quizzes to learn about and celebrate Qatar. After a term of hard work in the classroom, it was great to see the Year 5s taking part in different forms of learning and stretching their knowledge and understanding outside of the classroom.

SECONDARY Learning Support, January 2020 Last term was very successful for the Learning Support department. As the term evolved, and we got to know all the students well, we were able to create lessons which addressed their individual needs. This resulted in the majority of the students being very enthusiastic during their sessions, and they appreciated the individual attention they received which led to a pleasing progression in their focus and abilities. Some students are now no longer in need of the extra help, whilst others will benefit from continued support. Either way, they have all learned some basic skills which will help them in both English lessons and other subjects. A good term with some delightful students.
