YOUR WEEKLY UPDATE ON ALL THAT’S GOING ON AT THE GULF ENGLISH SCHOOL

WHOLE SCHOOL Our first week in school for Term 2 has been wonderful. Parents have also engaged in rich conversations with teacher to support their child’s learning during the parents meeting day.

This week we’ve also had extensive discussions with representatives from the Ministry of Education. We have been eager to change, improve and develop so that our students may benefit more. We are fast approaching the point where students will have had a year of disrupted education. So our teams have been working rigorously to provide creative solutions. Historians will attest that new approaches have often been met with resistance in the past. Inventors such as Edison, Da Vinci and the Wright bothers experienced obstacles whenever they tried a new idea. They were, however driven by something significant which was a vision to create something new. We are fortune at The Gulf English School, to be driven by something more significant which is our community. Our commitment towards our learners and parents, consistently motivates our team members to strive for more. In this edition of Al Sedra, you’ll be able to see some of the fabulous work our students have created. We are confident they will have additional opportunity to do this more often.

INFANTS One of the highlights in Reception from Term 1, was carrying out different Science experiments!Children showed great curiosity when testing different materials which would keep Humpty Dumpty safe!

The children loved playing together with small world toys. They showed great imagination when creating stories with their friends. It was great to see some excellent sharing and take turns skills.

We are now looking forward to starting our new IPC topic of Blast Off! We will be learning about the Solar System, discover what it is like to be an astronaut living on a space station, and have a go at creating, building and making with a variety of arts and crafts.

In Reception, we all enjoy our fitness sessions. Sometimes these sessions are held in classrooms, and sometimes they are held outside on the school field. We are all aware of how important it is to exercise and to keep healthy. At snack time, we all make sure we are eating healthy food.

We all enjoy learning together outside of our classrooms. We make sure we all cooperate and share all resources fairly. Often, we work with grownups outside, which is always fun!

One of the highlights in Reception was learning about the different seasons and weather. We enjoyed role-playing in our Ice-cream parlour.

We played games which taught us how to share, take turns, make friends and use our counting and number skills.

JUNIORS Welcome to Book Month!

We have had a fantastic start to our Book Month, which features the story of Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp. The Year 4 TAs have been very busy organising and transforming our corridor into the ‘Cave of Wonders’. Mr. Mohammed also starred as Aladdin in our KS2 movie and hook where he made the amazing discovery of the enchanted lamp in our very own playground! We have lots to look forward to during Book Month, including decorating the class door competition, dressing up day and a story-writing competition. Year 4 are really excited about all the fun learning that will take place with this magical story over the next four week.

SECONDARY It has been an interesting year, to say the least. As a school, I think we have jumped through hurdles and broken down barriers to ensure we have provided the best teaching possible. I would like to thank you, the parents, for all the support you have provided, as we could not have done it without you. Insha’Allah, we’ll have a prosperous 2021.

Our Key Stage Four Graphic Communication students have been working incredibly hard on the topic of climate change. Their task was to create four different types of climate change posters, to meet different target audiences. They have been researching and gaining inspiration from various different artists who have worked on climate change, and they have used this new-found knowledge to create their own individual pieces.

There has been some fantastic work from students, despite all the difficulties they have faced, and we are positive that their determination and ability to face challenges will help them to not only complete this course, but aid them throughout their future lives too.

SECONDARY

Reading Club is a great way to engage with interpreting and analysing stories, which will help you increase your vocabulary and comprehension, not only in English lessons, but in other subjects as well.

Explore the short stories and fables that we read during Monday lunch times at 10:00-10:30am. You will have the opportunity to gain a full comprehension of the stories, as well as discuss them and give your opinions. The stories will be available on Firefly, along with questions and discussion points.
