WHOLE SCHOOL This week, we have commenced our reading month which our teacher and students have engaged in brilliantly. It’s like a magical adventure throughout the Primary schools. It serves as a reminder for adults, how important books are in feeding our imagination. Readers have an opportunity to escape into different worlds and imagine things never seen before. During this month especially, we encourage parents to sit and read with their child. This serves as a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to build their bond but also for our learners to develop an eagerness to read. Reading is a significant contributor towards a child’s success and could arguable be the most influential. We hope you will join us throughout this month, in encouraging our learners to pick up a book and read. If you require any assistance in finding the best book or advice, our school librarians would be happy to assist in suggesting resources or material which your child finds interesting.

INFANTS It's been a busy time for us in Year 1 as the students worked hard in school and online. We have enjoyed our IPC topic 'Earth Our Home' where we have covered lots of science. These have included: understanding how different habitats support living things; sorting living and non-living things and understanding what living things need to survive. The students particularly enjoyed experimenting to learn more about plants. This involved planting seeds around our classroom, and changing the variables to see if the plant would grow successfully, for example, without any light. The students excelled as scientists and were asking some tremendous scientific questions. In Literacy, the students wrote their story 'Wild', thinking carefully about including conjunctions, such as 'and' and 'because.' We look forward to seeing how their writing develops in the next term. We will begin to use questions and exclamatory sentences. In Maths, the students have recently been looking at 2D and 3D shapes. They have been identifying the properties of these shapes and finding examples of these in real life. This term, the students will be concentrating on place value up to 50 through understanding 10s and 1s. The Year 1 team are very excited for the year ahead. We have Reading Month ahead of us and a new topic called 'A Day in the Life of.' We wish you a prosperous and memorable 2021.

JUNIORS Year 5 started the new year with a bang! We have officially commenced ‘Reading Month’ with the fabulous theme of the ‘Arabian Nights’. Our talented teaching assistants have been incredibly imaginative and creative and have surprised Year 5 with decorated corridors and displays to enrich our learning environment. In class, Year 5 have been developing their artistic skills. The children have created some excellent paper-weaved mats and magic lamps. These will be used to compete in the ‘Decorate the Door’ competition. All the classes in the school will attempt to have the finest-looking door! SECONDARY Last term was successful for the Learning Support Department, as we saw an immense amount of progress from the pupils who engaged with the online and in-class learning. Some students who did not know basic grammar, can now add it to their sentences with prompts and reminders as well as write coherent and well-structured sentences. As we got to know the students (as well as we can, during these times), we were able to create lessons which addressed individual weaknesses, and we built upon these to ensure that the students met their targets. Some of our students are no longer in need of the extra help, whilst others will continue to benefit from our support. Either way, students have, and will, continue to learn basic skills which will help them in both their English lessons and in other subjects. In conclusion, it can be said that most of the students have been very enthusiastic during the sessions; they are keen to learn and participate in class discussions. Last term was a good term, spent with some delightful students, and we very much hope that they will continue to demonstrate their hard work and achieve success in this term too
