WHOLE SCHOOL Welcome to our first edition for 2021. We hope all our community members were able to have some well-deserved rest and enjoy a safe holiday. As we bid farewell to 2020, we can’t help but look back and appreciate how we have managed to demonstrate our core values as a community. Demonstrating the responsibility, respect, support and duty of care on one another has enabled us to get through one of the most challenging years of our lifetimes. We keep this in mind as we now venture into 2021. Excited and hopeful of new accomplishments and possibilities. Keeping in mind, what has been achieved, the possibilities are endless. We are looking forward to the coming term as we have been preparing a new learning model so that all learners can access more school time and develop a better learning routine. We have also made developments across our sites to further improve the safety of our school community. We look forward to sharing these with our families in the coming weeks as we start 2021.

INFANTS
Our new and exciting topic is ‘Ocean Treasures’, where we are learning about different sea creatures and their habitats in Preschool. This week our focus in Phonics has been the letter ‘t’; so we have learned about turtles. As you can see from these photos, we had lots of fun making paper plates and healthy snack turtles! During our live lessons, we have recapped the sounds ‘s.a.t.p.i.n.’ and worked on recognising number 1 to 5, and if that wasn’t enough fun, we have also enjoyed listening to a story each day with our class teacher!

JUNIORS Happy New Year Year 3! Whilst we think everyone can agree that 2020 was quite an unusual year, there were many events and achievements to celebrate. Firstly, Year 3 completed their first term of Junior school, and without a doubt, it was a tremendous success! The children have adapted to the changes with great maturity and displayed all of the school’s core values daily. The teaching staff have enjoyed watching them grow and settle into their new school life. The beginning of a new year is a great time to reflect on the previous year. Last term, each class was visited by a big friendly giant, who gave them a dream jar and the task of writing out some dreams. The children’s dreams were incredible and full of imagination. We also mastered the tricky skill of column addition and subtraction with great success. Well done year 3! At the end of the last term, we also enjoyed celebrating National Day together, with lots of creative activities and learning about Qatar's history of pearl diving. The first week of 2021 has most definitely got off to a super start. This week we have been focusing on our goals and dreams for the future. Children have been asked to think about their future, using inspirational people and quotes to excite them. They have set goals and broken these goals down into ‘steps to success’ to help them achieve their dreams. They have written letters to their future selves to help motivate and keep them focused. As a school, we can’t wait to assist the future of tomorrow achieve their fullest potential!

SECONDARY We would like to extend a warm welcome to our students for the second term of this academic year. In the Business department, we are working with pupils to ensure that they achieve their best and we have been running interventions since October. We greatly encourage the students to attend intervention classes, because we specifically target those who need additional catch-up lessons based on their individual assessment data. The COVID pandemic certainly highlights the relevance of Business Studies as a course, as it gives pupils a chance to learn and understand how organisations must react to an ever-changing climate, and how they must adapt to survive. Students have been able to link and relate the topics they have been studying (business objectives, business activity, profit and growth) to the pandemic, as they can see the impact COVID has had. Therefore, it can be said, that this experience has extended their learning beyond the classroom. Well done to the Year 11 Enterprise students who have worked very hard to set up their business ideas, and are now ready to sell their products to the school community. They have been using the school’s online facilities to promote and present their ideas to fellow pupils and teachers, and as this is part of their coursework it will help them to achieve to a high level within the course. For students enrolled on BTEC programmes within the Business faculty, please can we remind students that they must hand in coursework on time and meet all deadlines? Their coursework must be submitted directly using their Turnitin accounts, rather than via email, and it will go to their designated teacher. Thank you, Bilal Ahmed Head of Business faculty
