BIN OMRAN This week Reception have been looking at ways of staying healthy. We were very lucky to have a dentist come visit us to talk about how to keep our teeth and gums healthy and the effects certain foods and drinks have on our oral health.

We have continued to keep ourselves active through action songs with Mr Steven and Wake up, shake up activities.

INFANTS ICT in GES Infant School. This term the children in Pre-School, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have been developing their knowledge of computer devices, the functions of the computer and the parts of the different devices in a fun and hands-on learning environment. Pre-School children have been developing their understanding of the basic ICT equipment and have played interactive games on the whiteboard and on the IPADS. Children in Reception have used different computer games to develop their computer mouse skills: controlling the mouse, clicking and creating using the mouse. Year 1 children have been exploring the Paint application and have used the different tools to create a picture of a treasure scene. They used shapes to create a house and designed the background. Finally, the children created a pirate ship and were challenged to rotate shapes around to create the ship. In Year 2, the children worked on creating a PowerPoint presentation on ‘Wild Animals’ which helped develop their knowledge of different wild animal facts, their habitats and features. They used the different features of PowerPoint to create slides, each with a different idea. The children used a child- friendly website, Kidrex, to search for facts and pictures of wild animals. They used the copy and paste feature to add pictures to their PowerPoint. The children will present their PowerPoint to their class in the coming weeks.

SECONDARY ICT The subject is currently undergoing a change of direction, as we are moving away from the delivery of IGCSE ICT and moving to IGCSE Computer Science from the next academic year (2020-2021). This is something that Year 9 students may wish to think about, and plan for, as they begin to think of their IGCSE option choices. (If pupils want to know more about Computer Science they can speak to Mr Bilal Ahmed or Mr Khalil Khalifa.) Our current group of Year 11 students studying ICT are working hard on creating databases for their studies, and they are enjoying the challenge. They have learnt about the huge use of databases across society, and the growing involvement we all have with databases in our daily lives. Year 7, 8 and 9 students will be doing their end of topic test in the first week back from the holidays. We would appreciate any encouragement of students in their revision, especially in using the vast amount of resources linked to the lessons they have had in ICT so far. The resources themselves can be found in the ICT section of Firefly; all students should now have access to their Firefly accounts. I would like to wish you a pleasant half-term break, and I hope that it is restful, fun and productive for all. Mr Bilal Ahmed Head of ICT
