This can include but isn’t limited to verbally asking and getting a” yes”, a physical gesture like a nod or reciprocating a move such as removing clothes. Even if a person meets this minimum requirement to take steps, their belief in consent must still be reasonable in all the circumstances – for example taking into consideration if the steps went far enough, or if there were cues such as pushing away the accused’s hand or facialThereactions.reforms will also clarify that circumstances where there is no consent to an act, including the removal, non-use or tampering of a condom – commonly referred to as “stealthing” – without the other person’s consent is a crime.
The Justice Legislation Amendment (Sexual Offences and Other Matters) Bill 2022 includes amendments that will adopt an affirmative consent model and provide better protections for victim-survivors of sexual offences, shifting the scrutiny from victim-survivors onto their perpetrators.Themodel will make it clear that everyone has a responsibility to get consent before engaging in sexual activity. For their belief in consent to be reasonable, a person must have taken steps by saying or doing something to find out if the other person consents – simply, it must be a clear and enthusiastic go-ahead.
The Bill also includes stronger laws to target image-based sexual abuse, which includes taking intimate videos of someone without their consent and distributing, or threatening to distribute, intimate images, including deepfake porn.Itincludes new jury directions to address misconceptions in sexual offence trials and reforms to better protect the confidential health information of sexual offence complainants. These reforms will be supported by community-based education delivered by local organisations and specialist services, announced in the Victorian Budget 2022/23. They will start to come into effect from next month, with the affirmative consent model to be in place from July 2023 unless proclaimed earlier. The Government consulted extensively with victim-survivors to ensure that lived experience is at the centre of these reforms to build effective and long-lasting change, as well as with the courts and other key stakeholders.(MEDIARELEASE)

With fourth dose vaccinations now available, more antiviral options and active case numbers now dropping to 15,024 – down from a peak of 71,428 on 23 July – the time is right for adjustments to be made.
The work from home recommendations were in place to help reduce transmission and protect our health system when it was under significant pressure during winter. The advice from the Department of Health is that this pressure and transmission risk has reduced.
Even when there are lower case numbers, it is always important that any employee who has COVID symptoms does a test and stays home.

Building A Strong and Resilient Triple Zero System
The IGEM reports and the Government’s response can be found on the IGEM’s website
MELBOURNE, Sep 3: The Victorian Government is continuing to transform the state’s Triple Zero system – making sure Victorians get the help they need in an emergency and strengthening our health system with more call-takers and dispatchers, better staff training and support, and stronger governance.TheGovernment has today released its response to the Inspector-General for Emergency Management (IGEM)’s Ambulance Call Answer Review and the Major Public Health Emergencies Review – accepting the findings and supporting all recommendations in both reports. Work on many of these recommendations is already well underway to immediately improve ESTA's call-taking performance, following former Victoria Police chief commissioner Graham Ashton’s review of the service.ESTA has already brought on more than 150 new call-takers and dispatchers, provided more training, more flexible rosters, more mental health support for staff and created a surge pool of call-takers for periods of high demand. The pandemic saw emergency ambulance call volumes increase from a pre-pandemic average of around 2,200 calls per day to nearly 4,000 at the peak of the Omicron surge. Our Ambulance Victoria paramedics responded to more than 93,000 Code 1 callouts in the January quarter, breaking the record set in the previous quarter. Since these reviews began, the Government has made significant investments to strengthen Victoria’s emergency call-taking service – with more than $333 million to meet demand, bring on more than 400 extra staff, build better support and surge capability for busy times and provide more support to frontline workers. This investment has seen vast improvements in call-taking performance since January 2022 – the IGEM has advised the Government that August 2022 calltaking performance has seen 92.8 per cent of all calls answered within five seconds, exceeding the benchmark for the first time since October 2021. We’re also getting on with helping the health system to recover from the pandemic and prepare for the future with the $12 billion Pandemic Repair Plan – delivering better hospitals, and training and recruiting more than 7,000 extra healthcare workers to get ambulances back on the road quicker and give patients the care they deserve. Earlier this year, the ESTA Reform Program Government Taskforce was set up to oversee the implementation of the Ashton Review recommendations. Given the alignment with the recommendations of the Ambulance Call Answer Review, this Taskforce will also oversee these recommendations.TheTaskforcewill keep progressing more complex reforms expected to be complete by December 2023, including bringing ESTA closer to government, rebranding it to Triple Zero Victoria and appointing a new board of advisers.

Australian shoppers shift to cheaper goods amid inflation
"The need for the Group to evaluate and respond quickly to a changing operating environment has never been more important as we focus on ensuring value for customers in an inflationary environment," said Coles Group Chairman James Graham. Both companies attributed the inflationary levels to global supply chain pressures, rising transport costs, and local factors such as flooding which has spurred sharp price increases on impacted local produce.
Woolworths' biggest competitor, Coles, painted a similar picture in their end-of-year results. The report said that shoppers were shifting away from fresh fruits and vegetables, expensive cuts of meat and name-brand goods, and opting for frozen goods, cheaper sources of protein, and the supermarket's cheaper own-brand products.
CANBERRA, Sep 2: The Australian government has committed to increasing the nation's annual migration cap amid the current skills and labour shortage crisis.
(IANS)
CANBERRA, Aug 25: As Australians struggle with an ongoing multi-decade high inflation, the nation's largest supermarkets have begun to notice shoppers moving towards cheaper goods.
The supermarkets have implemented a "price freeze" on staples in a bid to keep customers engaged. Coles locked the prices of more than 1,100 everyday goods, and Woolworths on over 400 items. Both the supermarkets ultimately posted growth in sales. Woolworths sales grew by 4.5 per cent in the 2021-22 financial year, and Coles posted an increase of 2 per cent.(IANS)
"Inflation is beginning to impact all aspects of our customers' shop and we are seeing a gradual change in customer shopping behaviour," said Banducci.
"I want to emphasise that one of Labour's priorities is to move away from the focus on short-term migrants, toward permanency, citizenship and nation building," she said.
Australia increases annual migrant intake to resolve labour shortage crisis
Alongside their end-of-year results released on Thursday, CEO of Australia's largest supermarket chain, Woolworths, Brad Banducci, said consumers were beginning to shift their spending towards cheaper goods.
The company's financial results noted that average prices in the three months to the end of June rose by 3.6 per cent, an indication that food prices are moving faster than the headline inflation rate of 6.1 per cent in the year to June as recorded by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the highest level since the early 2000s.
Clare O'Neil, the Minister for Home Affairs, on Friday said that the permanent skilled migration rate for this financial year had been set at 160,000 places, and the new Labor government would increase that number to 195,000.Speaking on day two of the government's Jobs and Skills summit, O'Neil said "almost everyone" agreed an increase in migration was needed to address labour shortages.
Regional areas will welcome 34,000 new migrants for this year -- an increase of 9,000 from the previous cap. Extra places will also be allocated for healthcare workers, tech sector workers and workers with skills needed to deliver critical infrastructure.Thegovernment on Friday also announced about A$36 million ($24 million) in funding to help clear the backlog of visa applications.PrimeMinister Anthony Albanese said Australian employers had become too reliant on temporary migrants. "There's also consensus that it's not just about the numbers, but it's about the makeup of our migration system, that we need to move towards more permanent migration rather than a reliance on temporary labour," he said.

Australian tourism industry waiting for international market to rebound
Prior to the pandemic the tourism industry was reliant on international backpackers on working holiday visas.
While an increase in Australians holidaying domestically has offset some fall in international visitors, the tourism industry is still waiting for international visitors and also facing staffing problems. ABS labour force data found there are 51,900 jobs vacant in the accommodation and food services industries across the country in May, and with official unemployment rate at the lowest in decades, not enough local workers to fill them.
"The major international factor that we're dealing with is the lack of backpackers," John Geappen, the owner-operator of a tourism business in Western Australia (WA), was quoted by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on Friday.
Since December the federal government has approved 102,800 Working Holiday Maker (WHM) visa applications but only 49,000 successful applicants have entered the country at the same time.

The incoming Starbuck CEO studied mechanical engineering at the University of Pune and then he headed west, picking up Masters in German and International Studies from The Lauder Institute at The University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania."Starbucks commitment to uplift humanity through connection and compassion has long distinguished the company, building an unrivalled, globally admired brand that has transformed the way we connect over coffee. I am humbled to be joining this iconic company at such a pivotal time, as the reinvention and investments in the partner and customer experiences position us to meet the changing demands we face today and set us up for an even stronger future," said Narasimhan, adding, "I look forward to working closely with Howard, the Board, and the entire leadership team -- and to listening and learning from Starbucks partners -- as we collectively build on this work to lead the company into its next chapter of growth and impact."Hewill relocate to Seattle, Washington, from London and will work closely with Shultz before taking over formally in April.
Further in the future, they could, for example, provide tailored on-demand links from rural towns and villages to existing public transport options nearby. They could also provide more direct and timely services that enable people to better access vital services such as schools and medical appointments.
"Laxman is an inspiring leader. His deep, hands-on experience driving strategic transformations at global consumer-facing businesses makes him the ideal choice to accelerate Starbucks growth and capture the opportunities ahead of us. His understanding of our culture and values, coupled with his expertise as a brand builder, innovation champion, and operational leader will be true differentiators as we position Starbucks for the next 50 years, generating value for all our stakeholders," said Shultz.
Some vehicles, including cars, coaches and lorries, with self-driving features could be operating on motorways in the next year, and the current plans set out new legislation which will allow for the safe wider rollout of self-driving vehicles by 2025.
"This enables the UK to take full advantage of the emerging market of selfdriving vehicles -- which could create up to 38,000 jobs and could be worth an estimated 42 billion pounds," the UK government said in a

The free medical clinic that opened in 2018 added a screening centre in 2019, which was a perfect addition because they were now able to do a lot more with the screening and it was clear that there were a lot of children who had congenital heart disease than earlier thought. It only became very important to build a database but also imperative to build a hospital.
According to the principles of the foundation - “No child or parent will pay for the surgery’’ All services at the hospital, including heart surgery, aftercare, nutrition and education will be provided absolutely free of Theircharge.focus in terms of congenital heart disease began in the year 2000 but the idea of setting up a hospital initially first started only with a conversation with the Sanjeevani Children's hospital chairman in India around 2015.In2016 with the help of a small team from Australia, India and Oman the first lot of surgeries for children with congenital heart disease at the public hospital was performed in Fiji. The chairman of the Sanjeevani Hospital in India offered assistance with a team, a couple of members from the hospital in India. Because Fiji didn't have a heart hospital then still, the team were able to do forty-five surgeries successfully. Then again, with more surgeries, the following year, they soon realised this was a stopgap, a more like a Band-Aid sort of solution.
There was an incident that made them speed up their plan of five to ten years process of building a hospital to a more impromptu plan.
The newly opened Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital Fiji gives hope and a new lease of life to the children of Fiji and South Pacific with absolute free no cost heart surgeries by The Sai Prema Foundation It gives us immense pleasure to speak to the family in Fiji, who is the driving force of a foundation, Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Heart Hospital, the chairman Mahendra Tappoo and the director Dr Krupali Tappoo. The real-life heroes who serve their life in the service of others. A hospital that commits to serving the underprivileged and needy people of Fiji is exemplified by the building of South Pacific's First Children's Heart Hospital in Suva, Fiji. It is, in fact, a matter of great pride that Fiji is the first nation in the Pacific and Oceania region to have a specialist Children's Heart Hospital treating children with congenital heart disease (CHD). The vision of this children's heart hospital is to become an essential pediatric cardiac care centre for Fiji and the Pacific Island nations The Foundation had identified congenital heart disease (CHD) as a significant problem affecting the children of Fiji and the Pacific. According to the World Health Organization 1% of all children born are born with congenital heart disease. In Fiji, that equates to almost 200 children every year and in the South Pacific, that's about two and a half thousand children that are born with congenital heart disease. The sad fact is that most of the children are unable to survive if they cannot travel abroad for treatment.
The mother decided to return to the village, accepting that she was not going to
There were hundreds of children, and probably they weren't doing justice to them. So quickly realised that there may be a need for a hospital but in the interim, they also realized they had to screen more children.

A Fijian single mother whose son, within a few months of being born, was frequently in and out of hospital with infections. No one was able to tell what was wrong. A scan of his heart was done, leading to the discovery of a hole in his heart. Since there were no specialised doctors available to do the surgery in Fiji, the mother was told to take her son to New Zealand for treatment. She was told that the treatment would cost around NZ $100,000. As a single mother earning just around $5000 a year she couldn't afford it.

“A truly global hospital where the support of compassion comes from all across the world transforming young hearts and this hospital is a lot more than just fixing a heart.” Dr Krupali Tappoo.
In May this year after the opening, the hospital completed thirty surgeries. The first team came from the United States. Many of the doctors and nurses were from America and they also had a doctor from Oman and a few intensive care unit nurses from Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane. In August, the second team of twenty-onemember came from India. They did another thirty surgeries in eight days. They plan to have another team coming from Singapore this October. That is a testament in itself, when there's a will, there's a way.
Dr Krupali Tappoo also feels that it is very important to put oneself in their shoes, “Like if I have a child and I couldn't afford to have my child operated and if my child died, how would I feel? I think just seeing that there are so many people suffering and that we are in a privileged position.”
The vision for the next five years is a vision that they want to implement in the next couple of years with surgeries every single month. Within the next five years, their vision is to have a local team based in Fiji that can do the work or at least do more straightforward surgeries. “We get our highs when we get positive feedback.” Dr Krupali Tappoo They envision becoming the most important Pediatric Cardiac Care Centre for Fiji and the South Pacific and they are a children’s hospital and would like to remain that with a focus on pediatric cardiac care. They would also have a screening program based in schools and in the community where they will be doing widespread screening for children with congenital heart disease. Terms of what keeps them going are their vision that they want to help the children of Fiji and the South Pacific, and they can relate to it profoundly because they are parents.
“For a young Foundation like ours to make a significant impact upon the people of Fiji is only due to the grace of the Divine. The words and teachings of our inspirational master, Sri Sathya Sai Baba, “Love all, Serve all, help ever, hurt never” and “Hands that serve are holier than lips that pray”, these are at the very core of our foundation’s values,” the Chairman Mahendra Tappoo adds.

And as Dr. Krupali Tappoo mentioned, the mother was just “waiting for her child to die.” This incident was a catalyst that led them to realise the importance of establishing the hospital ASAP, shifting Dr Krupali and her husband Sumeet Tappoo 's reasoningthey couldn’t wait for five or ten years for a hospital while children keep dying.
The compassion and care that brings smiles to these children's faces are precious and at the end of the day keep them going.

The big task here was to train the locals, but it would take five to seven years to prepare them as specialists. Hence, their surgeon from the US advised them to build the hospital to international standards and US standards and the surgeons would continue to come. The land was granted by the government of Fiji for the hospital. To build the hospital $25 million was spent and none of the funding came through any international aid agencies.Thefounders and members of Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani believed that just because something's free it needn’t be substandard. With these principles, they build a state-ofthe-art facility that should be among the best in the world. An environment where children would feel positive and happy. The hospital also includes international in-house laundry andNothingkitchen.came easy and there were some significant challenges, although COVID was an obstacle for everyone. One of the other most significant challenges they faced was finances or funding for the hospital. As the funding never came from any international aid agencies or prominent philanthropists, they were talking to individuals around the world who felt for the cause and many of the foundation members of Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani are a tiny group of people. Then the other challenge was the lack of local expertise, as they had to rely on overseasConstructionknowledge.inFiji is unique given the geographical demographics there are no high-rise apartments or buildings, and as for the building standards they had to engage the right people.
You can also do your bit. Every contribution helps even the smallest donation will help to save life.
“Most medical professionals who have come to our hospital are volunteers, they donate their valuable time, and none of them get paid to do the work. I have very high regard and respect for the health professionals who to make this nobel contribution, he added. However, the consumables required for each surgery are very expensive.” Mr Mahendra Tappoo adds.

Anurag Kashyap: Women and men should be equal. There should be equality, and gender shouldn't exist. Only people should. I don't understand, and the problem with the entire world is the sense of honour associated with the vagina. Why? We don't need to be so over protective.Theworld becomes equal, and we don't have to posture as the knight in shining armour.
Anurag & Taapsee Pannu
Pannu: Sounds like an exorcism. We read somewhere where that you had fights and the next moment you are ok. It takes days to calm down, so how do you switch to work again?
Anurag Kashyap: We are beyond the siblings' stage.Taapsee Pannu: The fights are not to offend the other but to push each other, and hence there are no cold wars that one takes back home because we know we mean a lot to each other and value. What is your definition of feminism?

Anurag Kashyap: She's a medium, and I invoke theTaapseespirits.
Your performance in Pink and Thappad will always be remembered with the way you get into the character. How do you do that?
Anurag Kashyap: If you ask me what's my favourite film, I always say ‘Next’, that's what keeps us going. What is your one word for Melbourne?
Anurag Kashyap: I love Melbourne; the weath er is beautiful, I love Chinatown, and I cannot wait to see some films. The most fantastic thing about Melbourne is the most incredible master chef living in Melbourne and the best restau rants in the world. I have the list of Masterchef restaurants that I want to visit. I want to walk around Melbourne, eat and have the local wine.
In a short period, what has been your most memorable character to play so far?
Taapsee Pannu: My first time in Melbourne, I was fascinated with Australia. I cannot wait to eat some excellent food. (GDI)
Taapsee Pannu: We get more attentional credit than we deserve in a film because we are the face in front of the camera. If you look closely, we are a tool in the hands of the film maker; how they (actors) use it's the expertise of the filmmaker. That's the reason cinema is called the director's medium. I am very raw in terms of my knowledge or talent, I am not very trained, so I depend upon my directors. So, all the performances and the name of the films you mentioned is because I surrender myself to the director's hands and let him mould the way he wants to without come with stiff preparation for a specific role. So, I let the director speak his language through me.
What inspired you both to do Dobaaraa, a remake of the Spanish film Mirage? Taapsee Pannu: The Script. The film was not made then. We just had the script. Sunir Khe terpal (producer) had just brought the rights to the script. I had the script to read and loved the writingAnuraghence.Kashyap: There was no film then; our interpretation of the script was massively different from the movie because we had the script and not the film. With over a Billion people in India, we can flood the world with local stories. Why do we need to take stories from other countries and remake them? Anurag Kashyap: India cannot deal with its ownUnlikereality.in Australia or any other country, the people decide for themselves, but in India, they decide for the people. The thing is Indian peo ple need to be told what to do. Half the country is uneducated, and secondly, India is highly uncomfortable with its own stories. There's an enormous pressure to show positive stories and get the social message of how great and united we are as Indians. Fact is different, and if we put any factual stories they cannot handle, we have to borrow random mainstream cinema from outside and create an aspirational sense of heroism that is beyond anything realistic. We think it is forever, and we cannot have a practi cal country without education. India is one of the worst on the educational scale in the world. It's sad.

A candid chat with director Anurag Kashyap and actress Taapsee Pannu - Dobaaraa- the opening night film.
Taapsee Pannu: Never asked the mother her favourite child.

Did you always want to take your career on a particular path, or was that accidental?
I think the circumstance that you get put in is luck. Life is like poker; you don’t know what cards you get to handle. You have to play your best. That’s what I have been trying to do all along.
When I was young, I always wanted to be an actor. It’s seemed pretty cliché that most peo ple want to be an actor, a doctor or an engineer because these are the obvious choices that one wants to make. In my case, I did a theatre work shop for a year which made me realise that I was working for eleven to twelve hours and then I was studying during the day, but I wasn’t getting tired because I was enjoying what I was doing. I discovered at a young age that nothing mattered with or without food and water. I wanted to keep going, and of course, opportu nities came my way, and I continued to work.
It didn’t live up to the expectations that I was hoping to get. It got mixed reviews, and maybe it didn’t strike a chord with the reviewers, but we made the film with the right intent. One didn’t want to fall short of any expectations. But you lose some, and you win some. The audience has also become unforgiving and highly select ed, and they have a buffet of films worldwide to choose from. So, one must work harder.
How has life changed after Bhaubali?
The Gorgeous Vaani Kapoor talks about her life before and after films. From hospitality to Film, three years of internship with Oberoi Hotel, worked with ITC, what made you change your career? Back then, I was trying to find my purpose in life, and I wasn’t sure what I would do. That was a phase in my life where I thought that let me proceed with hospitality or tourism; back then, it was the creative medium for me. I had no means to be part of this industry, and it so happened that after that, I paved my path to be a model, and from modelling, I got an opportu nity to test for films. Of course, my parents want to see me educated and finish my graduation, and one thing people cannot steal from you is your knowledge and exposure. So, the more understanding you have of the world, the better it is for you.

I think my success in commercial cinemas has been in the south, and I am not focused on only Hindi films but all other languages. If you do many different languages, you tend to spread yourself to large audiences. In Hindi, I have a film called Babli Bouncer that is coming out on the 23rd of September by Disney Plus Hotstar; it’s and OTT release. It’s a Madhur Bhandarkar film which makes a lot of women-centric movies and which are mighty. Babli Bouncer is a very novel concept as we don’t have the idea of females being bounc ers. Being part of cinema and playing different characters like the following show, Jee Karda showcases friendships from school times. The story is based on Mumbai life. On being humble and down to earth? That’s the only way to be; where will we take this and go!
What would you like to say about Shamshera and how people have taken it?
M:
There is constructive criticism, and then there is criticism to pull one down and then there is a lot of hate. Strangely enough, people feel empowered when they address hate, but they forget that those many thoughts and that much of what they give out will all come back. It is a vicious cycle. If it's constructive, I am all up for it because criticism needs to find a fairground.
What is your one word for Melbourne? Melbourne is beautiful, and I would love to come back soon, hopefully. I hope I can shoot for a feature film one day soon. (GDI)
What are you looking at next?
From Lokhandwala, Mumbai to Melbourne, we sit with the super gorgeous Tamannaah Bhatia of Bhaubali about her journey in films. Do you believe in hard work, luck or a com bination?
A global audience has looked up to Indian cinema a lot more seriously, persevering Indian content with a keen eye. Indian stories have some or the other influence or aping the west. But, now we have stories rooted in India, and people are react ing on a mass level. Films like Bhaubali have mass appeal and tell authentic stories that fit well with our cultures and tell them well. Stories based on human emotions connect with everyone.

There are so many layers of labels attached to the film industry. What do you see yourself as? The aspiration is to break the stereotypes, the labels and the boxes that people try to fit us in. We are actors and be like water, moulded in any container. I aspire to be and explore all kinds of genres and films. I am still a timid introverted girl, so I have to work on my confidence like one has to work on their muscles in a gym. Confi dence is a muscle that you have to train.
What cues did you take to prepare for the role? That’s when I leave my inhibitions as an individual behind. I feel it unfair to hold any of it back for a character. I have a lot of value to my work, and that’s where my conviction is; my confidence comes from these convictions to deliver my utmost best.

How long did it take to curate the exhibition? Like all Melbourne Winter Masterpieces®, major work for the exhibition begins at least three or four years out from the exhibition opening. NGV staff have been working intensely on The Picasso Century for the last fewOveryears!seven decades, Picasso experimented with a wide variety of media, with the help and influence of his peers and contemporaries. His works of the late 1920s and early 1930s were partly informed by his creative dealings with sculptors Julio González and Alberto Giacometti. In the Picasso Century, you will see a room dedicated to Picasso's experiments with sculpture during this period. Seeking to transform his two-dimensional experiments in painting into three dimensions, Picasso enlisted the assistance of González, a skilled metalsmith who worked with iron.
González masterfully cast bronze versions of sculptures that Picasso had moulded in plaster or assembled from found objects. Which is your favourite piece? My favourite Picasso in the show would have to be Guitar “J’aime Eva” in the section of the exhibition that traces the evolution of the Cubist experiments of Picasso and Georges Braque between 1908 and 1914. There is a great fun fact that I love to share with visitors: An old photograph of this artwork shows that there was originally a gingerbread heart stuck to the bottom section, on which Picasso had written the

What is the Picasso Century?
The world-premiere Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® 2022 exhibition, The Picasso Century, charts the extraordinary career of Pablo Picasso in dialogue with the many artists, poets and intellectuals with whom he intercepted and interacted throughout the 20th century, including Georges Braque, Salvador Dalí, Alberto Giacometti, Françoise Gilot, Marie Laurencin, Dora Maar and Henri Matisse. Exclusively developed for the NGV by the Centre Pompidou and the Musée national Picasso-Paris, the exhibition features over 80 works by Picasso alongside over 100 works by more than 50 of his contemporaries, drawn from premier French national collections, as well as the NGV Collection.Youtold us that one of the Picasso was stolen and it was returned, the story intrigued us. What was so special about that piece? This is a favourite story with our visitors! In August 1986, our NGV collection work, weeping woman (1937) was stolen. Just over a fortnight later, the work was recovered undamaged in a locker at the Spencer Street railway station. In the 1980s, security measures weren't as stringent as they are now. We're very pleased to be able to present such a highlight of the NGV collection alongside other Picasso works, in their historical context, in The Picasso Century. The weeping woman is located in the 'Art in Wartime' section of the exhibition, which allows the work to tell its full story as a deeply moving painting about the horrors of war. Who are the main curators?

The publishers are strictly liable for disseminating defamatory material because of their assumption of responsibilities in preparing and communicating the material to the public. Interestingly the defence of innocent dissemination of the defamatory contents by a secondary publisher is not available any more in the light of High court decision in Voller in which the court upheld the findings by the NSW Court of Appeal upholding a finding that the media companies are publishers of comments posted to their public Facebook pages by the third-party users. The High court by majority, rejected the contention that publication of defamatory matter must be intentional; that the publisher’s liability does not depend on knowledge off the defamatory matter being communicated or an intention to communicate it. Applying the rule of Webb v Bloch the court said that a person who has been instrumental I, or contributes to any extent to, the publication of defamatory matter is a publisher. All that is required is a voluntary act of participation in its communication. An attempt to portray themselves as passive and unwitting victims of Facebook’s functionality has an air of unreality, having taken action to secure the commercial benefit of such functionality attract the legal consequences. The participation in the publication is satisfied if it is active and voluntary. For an administrator or monitor of a blog, discussion forum or social media community where one controls the membership and access to posting content, one may be categorised as a primary publisher and such a status will prevent the person from relying upon the innocent dissemination defence. However, the publication of the material may fall within one or more off the other defences that exist at common law or under the defamation act. The court have been reluctant to impose a positive duty to monitor an open access internet discussion forum. In case of subordinate publication of material created by someone else, a range of possible defence available includes innocent dissemination. However, one would need to demonstrate that the person promptly removed the defamatory material. The question as to what is a reasonable time within which to respond to claims of defamatory material shall be subjective and vary depending on the circumstances of each publication.TheVoller decisions highlight the need for organisations to review how they monitor this engagement with the public. This may include pre-emptive measures, to the extent they are available and cost effective. Since the posts in Voller, Facebook has introduced options that provide greater controls to page administrators. Efficient processes for removing content upon complaint will likely be most critical.
In general terms, this judgment is the culmination of an extended litigation of a separate question relating to material which was published if five years ago. Defences, including potential defences of innocent dissemination, are yet to be considered. Whilst a decision in favour of the media companies (at any stage) would have ended the dispute, this experience is likely to reinforce judicial reluctance to entertain separate determinations which can prolong proceedings and add to cost.
Defamation is a communication from a person to at least another that harms the reputation of an identifiable third person and the communicator has not legal defence as per the defamation act. The law of defamation aims to balance the right of free speech with the protection off a person’s reputation against harm and damage including financial and non-financial. The online platforms hosting third party content is particularly a complex area and continue to evolve. Internet message boards and media websites publishing content are rife with defamatory content.

Secondary Online Publication and Defamation Liability
LEGAL
The courts have attempted to balance the right of a person to seek vindication of his or herThereputation.anonymity of the web also provides an environment for ‘trolls’ who deliberately make outrageous statements about other people to cause disruption and intentional damage. The liability of those who did not create the content, arguably defamatory, is not a new phenomenon but gained increase momentum in the fast speed internet world. A newspaper vendor was sued in 1880 over the sale of newspapers containing defamatory articles and in lately a local counsel found itself in the soup by failing to remove defamatory posters plastered on bus shelters in its locality by a third party. Australian courts seem adopting a similar approach in relation to online platforms. The publication may be anonymous so the person may have practical difficulties in discovering the identity of the person posting the defamatory material. For defamation to succeed the person complaining of the defamation must prove that the communication has been published to a third person; the communication identifies the plaintiff, and the communication was defamatory to cause harm to the reputation and business of the plaintiff.

New Dimensions to the Margam is a Bharatanatyam performance by the renowned Rama Vaidyanathan, one of the most sought-after Bharatnatyam dancers of India.Recently, I had a chance to have a sparking conversation with Rama about her upcoming performance and about life of an artist itself. Having a cup of tea, I sighed as I am talking to the connoisseur herself.

the son of a celebrated Bharatnatyam dancer, Saroja Vaidyanathan. I was married at 19, I felt the decision was made for me to continue this family legacy. Regarding becoming a classical artist, I believe self-study to perfect technique (Sadhna) is most important, not quantification of performances.”
3 takeaways for next generation to be successful classical artists:
“About 20 years ago, I performed in Moscow. I was representing India. I received a standing ovation. I thought this is a dancer’s dream. As I was walking off stage a Russian lady said, “such a beautiful performance, what is your name?” That’s when I realised – art is bigger than the artist. Like Jeevatma and Paramatma, dance is macrocosmic consciousness.”

“New Dimensions to the Margam" on Saturday 24 September 2022. It’s part of the Indian Performing Arts Convention at Alexander Theatre, Clayton, hosted by Monash University Performing Arts Centres.
“I have performed once before in Melbourne (Surya Festival, 2016). This is my first time presenting a full-length Margam performance in Melbourne.”
1) Self-study: internalise dance yourself. 2) Patience: Sthayi bhavana for peace and equanimity.3)Inclusivity: working as a community of artists is the way forward.
Is this your first time performing in Melbourne?
How was your experience in Melbourne?
“Even then, I was surprised to see several diligent Indian classical dancers in Melbourne. Of course, wherever there are good dancers there is discerning audience. That’s why I’m excited to do a full-length Bharatnatyam Margam performance.”
Speaking about "New Dimensions to the Margam”, can you explain traditional Margam and nuances you will be exploring? “Margam (spiritual path) is the presentation format of the Bharatanatyam dance form. Traditionally, Margam includes Pushpanjali, Alarippu, Jatiswaram, Shabdam, Varnam, Kirtanam, Padam, Tillana and Shloka or Verse. What Margam has now become is invocation – long central piece (Varnam), two Abhinaya pieces, Tillana. My performance format will remain same. However, I have created my own compositions. So, originality in music, structure and choreography is the new dimension. Even the poetry, I have transcended through languages (Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit,Marathi,Hindi).”

Kerela’s emerald sparkling backwaters, tea plantations and abundant wildlife are some of the many beautiful things that it has to offer. This magnificent place is not only a land of natural beauty that exhibits picturesque scenes, but it is also a place where you will find peace and love in abundance. This state showcases a blend of cultures where everyone lives harmoniously. A paradigm of this unison is displayed clearly in its most famous festival called ‘Onam’ which is celebrated annually with full gusto by Malayali diaspora in Kerala and across the world. It is a ten-day event. Thrikkakara Temple in Kochi is the focal point of celebrations and the place of origin of this popular festival. Onam is also known as the ‘harvest festival’ as it signals the end of monsoon with abundant harvest portraying plenitude and happiness. The history goes like this -despite being a demon, King Mahabali was known to be generous and kind, and his reign is regarded as the golden era in Kerala, which is why his ‘return’ is so widely celebrated. According to Vaishnava mythology, it is said that Mahabali came to power by defeating the gods and taking over the three worlds. Gods were unhappy with his popularity and asked for Lord Vishnu’s help in a battle against the demon king. Vishnu agreed to help but did not want to participate in a battle as Mahabali was his ardent devotee. Instead, to help other gods, he took the form of a poor dwarf Brahmin (his Vamana avatar from the Dasavatara) and visited Mahabali, asking the king to grant him three wishes. The Brahmin requested the property right over a piece of land that measures “three paces”, to which Mahabali agreed. The dwarf suddenly grew in size and covered everything Mahabali ruled over in just two steps. For the third step, Mahabali offered his head. But impressed by Mahabali’s devotion and good deeds, Vishnu allowed him to return to earth once a year — it is this annual visit that is celebrated with much fanfare as Onam. Onam is very special to every Malayali, and it becomes even more special if one resides outside Kerala. Whenever people go to Kerala for Onam they celebrate all the 10 days. Even though it is difficult for each family member to make it due to work commitments, families try and plan their visit accordingly so that we everyone can meet at least once a year. The day of Thiruvonam begins with the entire family visiting a nearby temple early in the morning. The actual fun starts when everyone gathers to make the pookkalam (floral carpets), and then prepare the grand Onam feast. This feast not only involves joyous festivities of family as well as feasting, but numerous other fun activities that enthral people from different cultures and religions.

Some festivals are solemn religious affairs while others bring with them much gaiety and an occasion to loosen up, enjoy and unwind. Onam brings with it both - The display of its colourful extravaganza sweeps people in delight, and everyone comes together to celebrate.

Meanwhile, Germany launched what it’s calling the world’s first fleet of hydrogen cell powered passenger trains earlier this week, says Robb Report.
The French Power to Transport - T&D engineering firm Alstom has built the new fleet consisting of 14 Coradia iLint hydrogen trains and operated by regional rail company LNVG. Each of the new locomotives use hydrogen fuel cells to generate the electricity needed to power its engine. This makes the vehicles much cleaner than their diesel-powered predecessors. Lower Saxony has funded the project in a larger objective to go green and reduce carbon emissions. As the Alstom trains run on hydrogen cells, they can save more than 422,000 gallons of diesel fuel per year. Robb Report said the fleet could cut CO2 emissions by up to 460 tons per year and H2 used to fuel the locomotives comes off as a by-product from chemical processes. Gas Company Linde hopes to produce it using only renewable energy within three years.Alstom says its trains have a range of 621 miles and can travel at speeds of up to 87 mph, though they will normally operate between 50 to 75 mph. That means that each of the locomotives should be able to run for an entire day on a tank of hydrogen, according to CNN. A hydrogen filling station has already been established along the route, which runs between the towns of Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremervorde, and Buxtehude. Five of the hydrogen trains debuted earlier this week and will gradually replace their 15 diesel counterparts. By the end of the year, every train on the line will be powered by hydrogen.LowerSaxony isn’t the only to have a hydrogen train fleet, as Frankfurt has reportedly ordered 27 such locomotives for use around its metropolitan area, while Italy and France have also commissioned hydrogen trains. Imagine travelling in a train that’s three times faster than the famed Bullet Train. A Canadian start-up recently unveiled the FluxJet, a hybrid between an aircraft and a train, capable of riding at more than 621 mph sans emissions. That’s a little quicker than the average private jet or about three times faster than a high-speed train. The plane without wings, as the company TransPod calls it, is based on a new field of physics called “veillance flux” and features an innovative “contactless power transmission”. It is also equipped with aerodynamic and propulsion systems designed specifically to reduce friction. Essentially, a vacuum tube setup allows the magnetically levitated pods to travel at a faster speed than trains, cars and jets, said Robb Report, a leading voice in the global luxury market. The FluxJet can carry up to 54 passengers plus two wheelchairs. It’s also fitted with four luggage racks and can transport up to 10 tons of cargo. It will travel along a dedicated tube system known as the TransPod line to alleviate congestion on main roads and highways. It’s not dissimilar to Virgin’s Hyperloop network of 600 mph pods that is set to roll out in The2030.TransPod line will have stations in key locations and major cities, with pods expected to depart every two minutes. The passenger ticket is expected to cost approximately 44 per cent less than a planeTheticket.FluxJet can reportedly reach 621 mph. What’s more, the project is expected to create up to 140,000 jobs and add $19.2 billion to Canada’s GDP throughout construction. It will also reduce CO2 emissions by about 636,000 tonnes per year. The train-plane plan appears to be gaining momentum, too. TransPod recently received $550 million in financing and kicked off the next phase of an $18 billion US infrastructure project to build the TransPod Line between Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta - which will reportedly get you to either city in just 45 minutes.Thecompany also recently presented a scaled-down FluxJet at an event in Toronto to showcase its flight capabilities. The demo model executed a take-off and landing procedure within its guideway. Inside, there’s room for 54 passengers.
“All the hard work over the past few years has led to this milestone moment where talk is becoming a reality,” TransPod’s co-founder and CEO Sebastien Gendron said in a statement. “The technology is proven, and we have the confidence of investors, governments and partners to continue pushing forward to redefine transportation effectively.”

Google has allowed users to insert emojis while writing in Google Docs, as they will not need to pull up emoji icons from other places anymore into their documents.
There is no admin control for this feature. To search for and add emojis directly in line with text in Docs, Google has simple steps to follow. The simple way is to just type “@ (emoji name),” and typing “@emoji” will pull up a searchable emoji picker, like the one on your smartphone.Thecompany said the new feature has been rolled out for some users today and will reach everyone by the end of September.

Men or Women, who’s the target? The App asked its users whether rom coms have more influence on men or women. Responses show that 21 percent of people from tiers 1 and 2 cities believe rom coms are predominantly marketed for women and tend to have more impact on women than men. The survey participants from metropolises like Delhi and Hyderabad commented that rom coms would have you believe that the problems in a woman’s life often revolve around her romantic endeavors. It pushes people to assume that the chief goal in a woman’s life is to look for a man.
Pros outweigh the cons On a lighter note, 29 per cent of daters above 30 said that rom coms’ happy vibe fills the brain with oxytocin and serotonin, the feel-good hormones. They proceeded to remark that watching a romantic comedy with your partner can help you understand what your significant other expects from you. Maybe they point out to the protagonist and say something good about their character. Instead of taking that as a comparison, try to improve yourself. From taking cues to spending time with your date, rom coms received some favourable feedback from the participants. 23 percent of women revealed that they love to watch romantic comedies on the weekends with their partners. It incites a feeling of emotional warmth and comfort. They aired that this fuzzy feeling and the soft nature of rom-coms help promote a sense of adoration between the couple.

Dating App QuackQuack’s Founder and CEO, Ravi Mittal, commented, “We have noticed one consistent topic of discussion among our 18 million followers, and that is on films. As per our observation, around 34 per cent of the users choose rom-coms as their first movieSurveyingdate.” 20k users from tier 1 and 2 cities to assess the effect rom coms have on people’s dating lives, the review shows that 57 percent of people expressed that while they love watching romantic comedies, it has provoked a sense of dissatisfaction in their dating life every time they see such flicks. 43 percent say that rom coms don’t affect them because, at the end of the day, movies are the products of our imagination, and everything necessarily doesn’t have to be inspired by factual events. From a woman’s point of view When the dating app spoke to its female users, they had a few interesting points to share. 19 per cent of these women, most aged between 25 to 30, voiced that one beautiful lesson that most rom coms have is that you need to work on yourself before you have a successful relationship. Self-care, and self-love, are given much importance in that genre of movies. It is a message we fail to comprehend while focusing only on the parts that show how some Prince Charming should be caring for us.
Escape from Reality Who doesn’t need to escape reality from time to time? Singletons certainly do, according to the survey, 13 percent of the single users aged between 21 and 28 revealed that they are a sucker for romantic comedies. They admitted using it to escape reality and dive into these stories of tender romance and humor. The hearty and happy ending of a rom com gives them a feeling of hope for their own love life. Unrealistic expectations aside, we all want a happily ever after!
Once upon a time, a girl and a guy locked eyes; they fell in love and lived happily ever after. Even with the odds against them, everything works out in the end. That is what every romantic comedy wants you to believe. Is life that simple?

To understand why high-energy blue light is responsible for accelerating aging in fruit flies, the team compared the levels of metabolites in flies exposed to blue light for two weeks to those kept in complete darkness. Blue light exposure caused significant differences in the levels of metabolites measured by the researchers in the cells of fly heads. In particular, they found that the levels of the metabolite succinate were increased, but glutamate levels were lowered.Thechanges recorded by the researchers suggest that the cells are operating at a suboptimal level, and this may cause their premature death, and further, explain their previous findings that blue light accelerates aging. Information overload adds to daily stress for 88% Indians
The report prepared by Canada-based information management solutions company OpenText, is based on a survey of 27,000 global consumers, across India, the UK, the US, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Brazil and Japan. It reveals the extent to which the effects of information overload are impacting Indians and how this has changed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In fact, due to the siloed nature of where information sits within organisations, three in five Indian employees (58 per cent) said that they normally spend, on average, one or more hours per day searching on company networks or shared systems for specific work files or pieces of information just to do their job.
Further, hybrid workers in India feel that they face a broad range of other challenges with two in five (38 per cent) saying that they cannot collaborate or share files with colleagues as easily when they are working from home, 41 per cent indicating they cannot access corporate file systems and content as easily when working remotely, while 28 per cent are struggling to carry on between the office and their home the technology and tools they need daily just to do their job. Researchers had previously shown that fruit flies exposed to light ‘turn on’ the stress-protective genes, and that those kept in constant darkness lived longer.
Several studies in the past had underlined that spending too much time on gadgets may impact your eyesight or mental health. However, a new study suggests that it may also affect your aging process.Theanimal-model study, published in the journal ‘Frontiers in Aging’, indicated that excessive blue light from gadgets, including smartphones and laptops, may accelerate the aging process.

“For businesses and their employees, the proposition of trying to manage the volume and complexity of information -- structured and unstructured data that is pervasive and growing exponentially -- can be a daunting one. What we’ve come to realise is that information on its own is not the answer,” said Sandy Ono, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at OpenText.
“Excessive exposure to blue light from everyday devices, such as TVs, laptops and phones, may have detrimental effects on a wide range of cells in our body, from skin and fat cells to sensory neurons,” said co-author of the study, Jadwiga Giebultowicz, from Oregon State University in the US. “We are the first to show that the levels of specific metabolites -- chemicals that are essential for cells to function correctly -- are altered in fruit flies exposed to blue light,” Giebultowicz added.
Information scattered across multiple locations is another reason for the difficulties workers face, with close to a half (46 per cent) reporting it’s hampering their ability to find the information they need to do their job.
An overwhelming majority (88 per cent) of Indians feel that information overload -- driven by constant information flow 24x7, pervasive social media, or too many apps to check each day -- continues to contribute to their daily stress, according to a report.

“While the avocados did not affect belly fat or weight gain, the study still provides evidence that avocados can be a beneficial addition to a well-balanced diet,” said Penny Kris-Etherton, Evan Pugh University Professor of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State. “Incorporating an avocado per day in this study did not cause weight gain and also caused a slight decrease in LDL cholesterol, which are all important findings for better Kristinahealth.”Petersen, assistant professor of nutritional sciences at Texas Tech University, said the study also found that eating avocados daily improved the overall quality of the participants’ diets by eight points on a 100-point scale.
in the Journal of the American Heart Association -- was conducted in conjunction with Loma Linda University, Tufts University, and UCLA, with coordinating support from Wake Forest University.Forthe study, the researchers conducted a six-month experiment involving more than 1,000 participants experiencing overweight or obesity, half of whom were instructed to eat an avocado every day while the other half continued their usual diet and told to limit their avocado consumption to less than two a month. Fat in the abdomen and around other organs was measured precisely using MRI before and at the end of the “Whilestudy.
Avocados help lower cholesterol levels
According to a new study, eating one avocado a day for six months was found to have no effect on belly fat, liver fat or waist circumference in people with overweight or obesity. However, it did lead to a slight decrease in unhealthy cholesterol levels. In the randomized trial, the team -including Penn State researchers -- also found that participants who ate avocados had better quality diets during the study period. While prior, smaller studies have found a link between eating avocados and lower body weight, BMI, and waist circumferences, this was the largest, most extensive study to date on the health effects of avocados, including the large number of participants and length of the study period.
They also found that daily avocados resulted in total cholesterol decreasing 2.9 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) and LDL cholesterol decreasing 2.5 mg/dL.
The researchers said that in the future, they will continue to analyze data from the study. For example, participants were not instructed on how to eat their avocados each day, and future research could investigate how participants incorporated the avocados into their diet and whether any differences in the results are observed based on how participants ate the avocado.(ANI)
one avocado a day did not lead to clinically significant improvements in abdominal fat and other cardiometabolic risk factors, consuming one avocado a day did not result in body weight gain,” said Joan Sabate, professor at Loma Linda University School of Public Health. “This is positive because eating extra calories from avocados doesn’t impact body weight or abdominal fat, and it slightly decreases total and LDL-cholesterol.”

Most of the fear in children arises out of seeing the needle. How wonderful it would be if we remove it at once! Healthy Smiles offers to inject local anaesthesia through a needle-free device known as injex. It sprays the medicine onto the target area to be absorbed by the tissues. The uptake time may vary from child to child but is generally fast. Injex is definitely a better option than injections as it doesn’t cause pain. Start Their Consultations Early It is all about conditioning. Children grasp things fast and get used to habits faster than you may think. It is advised to start visiting the dentist, for your child, as early as they reach 6 months of age. Dentists can keep a track of the growth of teeth and prevent tooth decay right from the beginning. Doing so is important for healthy teeth as well as instilling good oral hygiene habits into kids. Visiting the dentist from the beginning makes it a norm and is easily acceptable by Usechildren.APositive

Various research studies over the past two decades indicate more than 80 per cent of all cardiovascular events may be prevented by healthy lifestyle and management of known cardiovascular risk factors. “The new metric of sleep duration reflects the latest research findings: sleep impacts overall health, and people who have healthier sleep patterns manage health factors such as weight, blood pressure or risk for Type 2 diabetes more effectively,” said Donald M. Do not use words like “painful”, “hurting”, “boring”, etc. Use words such as “wonderful”, “important”, and “healthy”. They might have heard someone else speak negatively about a dentist visit. Help them forget that and choose a paediatric dentist who treats them thoughtfully.

The UK Biobank includes data on half a million men and women aged 40 to 69, who completed a baseline questionnaire between 2006 and 2010.
For the study, the research team evaluated the associations of tea consumption with allcause and cause-specific mortality using data from the UK Biobank, where black tea drinking is common.Theyalso assessed whether the associations differ by the use of common tea additives (milk and sugar), tea temperature, and genetic variants affecting the rate at which people metabolize caffeine.
Of those, 85 percent reported regularly drinking tea and of them, 89 percent reported drinking black tea.
Those who drink more than two cups of tea every day are more likely to live longer than people who do not, says a newThestudy.study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, showed that relative to tea nondrinkers, participants who reported drinking two or more cups each day had a 9 to 13 percent lower risk for mortality. According to the researchers, including Maki Inoue-Choi from National Cancer Institute (NCI), in the US, the findings suggest that tea, even at higher levels of intake, can be part of a healthy diet. Tea is one of the most consumed beveragesPreviousworldwide.research has suggested an association between tea consumption and lower mortality risk in populations where green tea is the most common type of tea. In contrast, published studies in populations where black tea drinking is more common are limited with inconsistent findings.

Pregnant women at cancer risk via dishware, hair colouring, plastics
Melamine is found in dishware, plastics, flooring, kitchen counters, and pesticides; cyanuric acid is used as a disinfectant, plastic stabiliser, and cleaning solvent in swimming pools; aromatic amines are found in hair dye, mascara, tattoo ink, paint, tobacco smoke, and diesel exhaust.
Pregnant women who are exposed to chemicals like melamine, cyanuric acid, and aromatic amines can have increased risk of cancer, says a new study.
The study, published in the Chemosphere, indicated that melamine and cyanuric acid were found in nearly all study participants’ samples, but the highest levels were found in women of colour and those with greater exposure to tobacco.
“These chemicals are of serious concern due to their links to cancer and developmental toxicity, yet they are not routinely monitored in the US,” said researcher Tracey J. Woodruff from the University of California, San Francisco. People can be exposed to melamine and aromatic amines in a variety of ways -- through the air they breathe, by eating contaminated food or ingesting household dust, as well as from drinking water or by using products that contain plastic, dyes, and Melaminepigments.andits major byproduct, cyanuric acid, are each high production chemicals that exceed 100 million pounds per year in this country alone. When exposure to these chemicals happens together, they can be more toxic than either one alone. For their study, the team measured 45 chemicals associated with cancer and other risks using new methods to capture chemicals or chemical traces in urine samples from a small but diverse group of 171 women.Thestudy period covered 2008 to 2020.Prior studies on melamine were conducted among pregnant women in Asian countries or limited to nonpregnant people in the US. The study, published in the journal BMJ Open, indicates that the associations found might help to explain the neuropsychiatric effects, such as anxiety, depression, mania, and delirium frequently seen after long-term use, say the “Thisresearchers.studyshows that both systemic and inhaled glucocorticoids are associated with an apparently widespread reduction in white matter integrity, which may in part underlie the neuropsychiatric side effects observed in patients using glucocorticoids,” said researchers, including Merel van der Meulen from Leiden University Medical Center. Their immunosuppressive properties mean that glucocorticoids, a class of synthetic steroids, are among some of the most frequently prescribed drugs. They are used to treat a wide variety of medical conditions. Previously published research suggests that long-term medical steroid use is associated with structural abnormalities and shrinkage of certain brain areas. But most of these studies have involved only small numbers of people with specific conditions. For this study, the team drew on data, comprising half a million 40-69-year-olds from the general population to see if there were any detectable differences in brain volume and structure between users and non-users of systemic and inhaled steroids.

The use of prescribed steroids, including inhalers, is linked to changes in the structure and volume of white and grey matter in the brain, finds a new study.
It is well known that smoking causes blocked arteries, leading to coronary heart disease and stroke. A new study on Thursday warned that smoking also leads to thicker, weaker hearts. The researchers found that the more people smoked, the worse their heart function became. Some function was restored when people kicked the habit. “It means that smokers have a smaller volume of blood in the left heart chamber and less power to pump it out to the rest of the body. The more you smoke, the worse your heart function becomes,”Theheart can recuperate to some degree with smoking cessation, so it is never too late to quit,” study author Dr Eva Holt of Herlev and Gentofte Hospital, Copenhagen, Denmark. The heart can recuperate to some degree with smoking cessation, so it is never too late to quit, Hold added in a paper presented at ESC Congress 2022. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), tobacco kills more than eight million people each year. Cigarette smoking is responsible for 50 per cent of all avoidable deaths in smokers, with half of these due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke. The detrimental effects of smoking on the arteries and arterial diseases such as heart attack and stroke are well established.
The MRI brain scans of 222 people using systemic steroids and 557 using inhaled steroids were compared with those of 24,106 non-users.Noneof the study participants had previously been diagnosed with neurological, psychiatric, or hormonal (endocrinological) disorders or were taking mood-altering drugs, such as antidepressants.
The new study explored whether smoking was related to changes in the structure and function of the heart in people without cardiovascular disease, and the effect of changing smoking habits. The study analysed data of a total of 3,874 participants aged 20 to 99 years without heart disease. The average age of participants was 56 years and 43 per cent were women. Compared to never smokers, current smokers had thicker, weaker and heavier hearts. “We found that current smoking and accumulated pack-years were associated with worsening of the structure and function of the left heart chamber -- the most important part of the heart,” said Holt. Increasing pack-years were associated with pumping less blood. One pack-year is defined as 20 cigarettes smoked every day for one year. Furthermore, the researchers found that over a 10-year period, those who continued smoking developed thicker, heavier and weaker hearts that were less able to pump blood compared to never smokers and those who quit during that time.” “This indicates that smoking not only damages the blood vessels but also directly harms the heart. The good news is that some of the damage is reversible by giving up,” the researchers noted.

Fat: Get rid of the false belief that fats are unnecessary for a healthy diet. Even if only omega-3 and 6 fats and unsaturated fats should be included in your diet, fats are still highly important. Saturated and trans fats are the kind of bad fats that you shouldn't consume. The same as proteins and vitamins, monounsaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, omega 3 fatty acids, and omega 6 fatty acids are critical for human health. Under skin cells, these fats are stored and converted into the energy needed for both mental and physical activity. We should incorporate them into our diets on a regular basis.*You can keep your body in good form while avoiding the perilous traps of weight gain and obesity by eating healthy foods.

When it comes to carbohydrates, it is important to go for less processed carbohydrates such as wholegrains and multigrain rather than processed grains such as white bread, white atta etc. Too little or too much may contribute to lower or higher energy levels and make it harder to reach certainApproximatelygoals. 45-65% of your total dietary intake should be made up of carbohydrates or grains; however this may vary slightly from person to person. However, your specific circumstances and medical conditions may require some specific attention to either of these key nutrients. Make sure to keep well hydrated to avoid dehydration.
