Ethan Paster & Bodycentral Ethan Paster is the Director of Sports Medicine at Bodycentral and the manager of the Cortaro clinic. With Golden Bear, he has developed a 2-day concussion course to empower others with the concussion evaluation and treatment process. I started at the Bodycentral residency program about five years ago. I knew I wanted to do a sports residency out of school, and I have been here ever since. Throughout the years, I have continued to progress and learn. Post-residency, I became the Head of Concussion Management for Bodycentral and the manager for the Cortaro clinic. Then, I became Regional Manager in addition to those two duties.
When we partnered with Golden Bear, I switched from Regional Manager to the Director of Sports Medicine. I was super glad about this change since it was something I had wanted. I run all
of our sports outreach, which means I set up contracts with teams and brands and organize the volunteers. In addition, I am a mentor for our residency program and run the concussion program. I started teaching the concussion class at the Bodycentral residency about five years ago. Each year, I made the program longer and more in-depth. I always hoped that it would eventually become a course. When Golden Bear approached me to create a concussion course, I started to do the work to make my program even more comprehensive.
My main focus is to make clinicians comfortable with concussions. I want them to know what to look for when evaluating for deficits, while feeling confident treating those deficits. Most cases are complex and individual, so the idea is to give lots of different treatment options. Treating a concussion can be scary, so my goal is to make everything simpler and make clinicians more confident. I’ve put in a ton of work into the course, and Golden Bear has been excited about the potential. I want to teach it in as many places as will have me.
