Thinking of Opening a Business? Think BIG! The City of Greenacres is formulating a Business Attraction and Retention initiative to encourage local entrepreneurs to start and grow their business here with guidance/technicial support from the Economic Development Department (EDD). We recognize that the number of available resources may be overwhelming and even confusing, and that many entrepreneurs do not know how to start or which organization to contact to help them translate their idea into an actual business. With that in mind, EDD will be launching Dream BIG, Think BIG to equip aspiring and existing entrepreneurs with what is needed to get operational, grow and succeed. Whether you are looking to open a business to supplement your current income or to fully dedicate yourself to it, EDD is committed to helping you realize your potential to start and/or grow a business. The initiative will be launched in October, but if you are a resident of Greenacres and have a business idea that you want to develop, you can visit our website or call EDD to schedule a free mentoring session. https://greenacresfl.gov/administration/page/business-resources Economic Development Department (EDD) econdev@greenacresfl.gov

STORM SHUTTER SAFETY
Greenacres City Code can be found at: Greenacresfl.gov/Administration /Page/City-Clerk
Shutters & Impact Protection Code Sec. 7-423 (P)
Hurricane protective devices on all buildings must be removed and/or opened no later than fourteen (14) days after the termination of the hurricane event (watch, warning, actual hurricane or tornado) unless another hurricane event is predicted to occur within the fourteen (14) day time period.
Prohibited Parking Code Sec. 14-28
Blocking Sidewalk Code: 14-28(b)(1)(b) Parking on Grass Code: 14-28 (b)(1)(f)
Storm shutters can greatly impede firefighting operations and limit the ability to ventilate a structure of toxic smoke and gases, and prohibits safe evacuation of trapped victims.
•
Firefighters are forced to use power saws and other heavy equipment to gain access to doors and windows blocked by storm shutters.
•
Keeping your hurricane shutters up or closed all year as a way of protecting your home can actually attract burglars instead of deterring them because they may think that no one is home.
•
Greenacres Property Maintenance Code, Florida Building Code, and National Fire Protection Life Safety Code prohibit shutters when there is no threat of a storm.
•
See News Article: https://cbs12.com/news/local/storm-shutterscreate-fire-rescue-nightmare
(b) Parking of Motor Vehicles, Boats & Trailers (1) The Parking of motor vehicles is allowed on private
property within residential districts and on residential properties within mixed development and commercial districts subject to the following restrictions: b. The vehicle is parked in a safe manner so as not to cause hazards such as encroachment on sidewalks, or roadways, or obstructing visibility of motorists. f. The motor vehicle must be parked in a garage/ carport or on a driveway that has been designed and permitted for that purpose except for those properties that do not have an impervious driveway and were originally constructed without such driveway.
Holiday Lights & Decorations Code Sec. 7-438
Holiday Lights and decorations shall only be erected during the appropriate respective holiday season and shall comply with all building and electrical codes. Holiday lights and decorations may be erected no earlier than six (6) weeks prior to the subject holiday. All holiday lights and decorations must be removed within three (3) weeks following the holiday.
