EFL JUNIOR GRAND FINAL INFORMATION ADMISSION PRICES

• Applaud good play by both teams.

Price of admission to all junior finals games is $5.00 per adult. Children under 17 years are admitted free of charge.

• Encourage players to always participate according to the rules and respect official’s decisions.

Please communicate this to all interested parties to avoid arguments at entrance gates.

• Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches and officials.

Admission price is for one venue only – if you attend another ground on the same day, you will need to pay another admission cost.

• An umpire’s job is a difficult one – put yourself in their position – how would you like to be treated?

NO DOGS OR ALCOHOL

• If you disagree with an official, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than questioning the official’s judgement and honesty in public.

Dogs are banned at all EFL games including finals and alcohol is not permitted to be brought into any finals venue. It would be appreciated if all clubs would stress these points to their supporters.

DRAWN MATCHES In the event of a drawn game in any of the finals (including grand finals) the following conditions will apply: • Goal umpires will confirm the scores. • Players will not change ends after full time, but will kick to the same end as they were in the fourth quarter. • Field umpires will re-commence the game for the duration of five (5) minutes. The siren will sound, the teams will change ends and a further five (5) minutes is played. • If the game is still drawn after the second five (5) minute period, play is to continue and the siren will sound after the first score. • At no stage during extra time will coaches be permitted to address players

EFL CODE OF CONDUCT The EFL’s Code of Conduct is designed to help improve the environment for players and supporters. It’s important that everyone involved on match days is familiar with what is considered to be ‘reasonable behaviour’.

EXPECTATIONS OF PARENTS/ GUARDIANS AND SPECTATORS • Remember that children play football for fun – they are not playing for your entertainment, nor are they miniature professionals. • Encourage players to participate, do not force them. • Focus on the players’ efforts – never ridicule or yell at a player for making a mistake or losing the game. • Remember that players learn best from example. 2

The Eastern Footballer - EFL Junior Finals 2019

• Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not harassing or using foul language to umpires, players, coaches, or other spectators. • Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players. • Respect the rights and dignity of every player regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. • Discuss the Codes of Conduct with your son/ daughter so that you are both aware of your obligations. • Actively promote the Codes of Conduct at all times. • Spectators are asked to stay off the playing arena during the quarter time and threequarter time breaks to assist with the League’s scheduling of matches. • Spectators are however welcome on the playing arena at half-time and at the conclusion of matches for the post-match presentations.

EXPECTATIONS OF PLAYERS • Always play by the rules. • Control your temper – treat others as you would like to be treated – bullying will not be tolerated. • Verbal abuse to umpires, officials or other players is not acceptable. • Never argue with an umpire or official. If you disagree, discuss the matter with your coach. • Co-operate, support and encourage your teammates – your team’s performance will benefit, so will you. • Respect the rights and dignity of all players regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. • Play for the “fun of it” – it’s just a game!

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW - UNDER-11 UNDER-11A Vermont Purple and Mitcham Black will clash for the first time since Round 13; on that occasion Vermont Purple ran away 29-point victors. The Eagles are yet to lose a game this season, so a win would not only mean premiership glory, but it would cap off the perfect year, seeing the minor premiers finish 16 – 0 across all games. Third-placed Mitcham Black is hoping to spoil the party, looking for big performances from its dynamic forward duo of Charlie Wilson and Joshua Dakic; both young-guns have kicked 21-goals this year.

UNDER-11B Knox Red is looking for more of the same against The Basin, after defeating the Bears by 37 points only weeks ago in the semi-final. Knox should be full of confidence with Costantinos Bekos threatening up forward, hoping to improve on his 26-goal season. Conversely, the Bears will want to put the semi-final behind them and build off of the momentum of their preliminary final victory over the minor premiers Croydon last weekend. The Basin needs a big performance from Jimmy Young, who leads the team’s goal-kicking with 18 on the year.

UNDER-11C After finishing first and second respectively, Knox Black and Ferntree Gully Eagles will meet for the first time since Round 5 of the home and away season. In the previous match-up, the minor premiers were too strong, defeating Ferntree Gully by 31 points. Both sides will back themselves in after strong preliminary finals and it will be interesting to see how things have changed since Round 5. Knox Black duo, Austin Mccafferty and Mitchell Gillan, are the biggest threats in front of goal with 11 goals and 10 goals on the season respectively.

UNDER-11D It’s clash of the titans in 11D, with both Donvale and South Croydon/Kilsyth only suffering one loss each on the season thus far. However for Donvale, its one loss came at the hands of South Croydon/Kilsyth by 37 points in Round 10, giving South Croydon/Kilsyth the mental edge as the big dance approaches. The biggest forward threats at either end are Jedd Webber for Donvale with 20 goals on the year and Jack Cannata for South Croydon/Kilsyth who has booted 10 of his own.

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW - UNDER-12 UNDER-12A It’s first versus second in the Under-12A decider as minor premier Lysterfield Teal faces-off against Blackburn Black. It was a close contest the last time these sides met in Round 13 of this year, but Blackburn Black eventually came out on top by 16 points behind four goals from Jack Maio. Coming off a three-goal performance in last week’s preliminary final, Jack Maio looks poised to be the difference in this contest and the Wolves will need to find a way to stop him.

UNDER-12B The Basin and Wantirna South renew acquaintances after a thrilling match-up in Round 8 where Wantirna South managed to beat the minor premiers by under a goal, winning by five points. With only one loss suffered by each team this season, both sides will be confident coming into the game. Watch out for Tairon Ah-Mu of Wantirna South who could be the difference for the Devils after kicking 22 goals across 14 games this season. Riley Mitchell of The Basin will be hoping to back-up his three-goal preliminary final performance and help get his side over the line this weekend.

UNDER-12C Lilydale and South Belgrave will meet again after previously seeing each other in the last round of the home and away season where Lilydale won by 14 points. The minor premiers narrowly avoided an upset in the preliminary final, winning by only two points against Ferntree Gully where inaccurate kicking almost cost the Falcons their season. It was a similar story for South Belgrave, who defeated Upper Ferntree Gully by seven points, kicking 2.11 on the day. Lilydale’s Darcey Barker has kicked 15 goals on the year and is the biggest forward threat across both teams.

UNDER-12D Bayswater and Rowville Knights will clash once again after meeting only weeks ago in Round 14, a match-up the minor premiers won by five points over the Knights. It’s been two different finals series for the top teams of Under-12D; Bayswater has won both its finals in convincing fashion, whereas Rowville won its preliminary final against Boronia by only six points. Bayswater’s Jamie Gilchrist bagged five in the preliminary final and could be the match winner if his form continues.

UNDER-12E An upset could be brewing as minor premier East Ringwood White takes on its nemesis Vermont Gold. East Ringwood White suffered only one loss all season, however that one loss was at the hands of Vermont Gold in Round 8 by four goals. Max Straughan kicked three that day so East Ringwood White will be very wary of his influence, doing everything to keep Straughan away from the goals. Damon Harvey is the biggest threat forward for the Roos, kicking 26 goals in only 12 games this season. www.efl.org.au

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW - UNDER-13 UNDER-13A Mitcham and Vermont Purple meet again after strong showings from both clubs in last weekend’s preliminary finals. In particular, Vermont Purple, who defeated the minor premier North Ringwood by a whopping 48 points. The last time the two sides met however, secondplaced Mitcham took the points, winning by 14 points. Thomas Goldsmith kicked four majors for Vermont Purple last week and could be a handful more for Mitcham to stop.

UNDER-13B In a surprise match-up, minor premiers Norwood is taking on giant-killers, the Rowville Knights, after the Knights upset The Basin Red in last week’s preliminary final away from home. The Rowville Knights will be looking to take Norwood by surprise and improve upon their previous effort against Norwood in Round 13 where they lost by 12 goals. Norwood has been the benchmark of the competition all year and after a 17-goal win last week, will be full of confidence coming into the big dance.

UNDER-13C Donvale and Glen Waverley Hawks will clash for the first time since Round 9, a match-up which was dominated by the Hawks, winning by 33 points. However the Hawks are looking a little vulnerable, narrowly defeating Chirnside Park in the preliminary final by three points, indicating the door is wide open for Donvale. Glen Waverley Hawks’ Christian Moraes will likely cause problems for Donvale, the superstar forward has booted 35 goals this year in only 15 games.

UNDER-13D A surprise match-up between Vermont Gold and Boronia is set for this weekend. After finishing fifth on the ladder, Boronia has found some stellar form across its two finals, upsetting Coldstream and Lysterfield Grey. Vermont Gold will be very confident it can beat Boronia after its three-goal victory in Round 14, but these plucky young Hawks shouldn’t be underestimated. The Eagles’ Ryoga Kato has been terrific this finals series, getting on the scoreboard in both games, including two in last week’s preliminary final – Boronia will need to watch him closely.

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW - UNDER-14 UNDER-14A East Ringwood Blue will be tough for Blackburn Black to stop, currently undefeated with a perfect 14 – 0 record through the season and finals. Blackburn Black will need to turn it around after losing to the Roos by 100 points in Round 8. Everything is poised for a perfect year from East Ringwood Blue but Blackburn Black won’t go down without a fight. Blackburn’s Billy Hicks had four goals last weekend and will need a similar performance if his side is going to upset the Roos.

UNDER-14B Wantirna South takes on Knox as the Devils look to repeat their efforts from Round 12 where they defeated Knox by 50 points. Knox has been in terrific form of late however and after defeating second-placed Rowville Knights by 22 points, it will be quietly confident in its chances against the minor premier. Wantirna South’s dangerous forward duo of Brayden Laplanche and Sam Moodie will be hard for Knox to contain after kicking 36 and 30 goals this year respectively.

UNDER-14C It’s second-placed Ferntree Gully Eagles White against third-placed Mooroolbark Gold with both teams coming off comprehensive preliminary final wins. The two sides last matchedup in the final round of the home and away season and the Eagles were too strong, winning by 44 points. After defeating the minor premier last week, Ferntree Gully White will back its ability to run over the top of the Mustangs. Mooroolbark Gold must try to keep the game tight early and be sure to contain Eagles forwards Sam Kenny and Benjamin Gasparroni who have kicked 31 and 29 goals respectively.

UNDER-14D Blackburn Red will meet The Basin for the first time since Round 8, where the minor premiers were defeated by the Bears to the tune of 11 points. Despite finishing third, The Basin has been the form side of the competition, winning seven in a row including a 12-point preliminary final victory against second-placed Coldstream. Blackburn Red will need another big performance from forward Declan Reilly, who had five goals last week, if it is going to stop The Basin in what is set to be an almighty showdown.

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW - UNDER-15 UNDER-15A It’s a top-of-the-table clash between competition rivals North Ringwood Red and Lysterfield Teal for all the ultimate prize. The two sides were the competition’s benchmark all year and it’s fitting to see this match-up in the big dance. Last time out in Round 10 North Ringwood Red proved why it was deserving of the minor premiership, defeating Lysterfield Teal by just under eight goals. Lysterfield will need to stop North Ringwood’s collection of powerhouse forwards, comprised of Jesse Meikle, Zac Young, Harry Flynn and Luke Sinn who have kicked 45, 27, 27 and 20 goals respectively.

UNDER-15B Rowville and Heathmont face-off in what’s set to be a huge contest after the sides drew in their last match-up. Despite finishing fourth, Heathmont drew with the minor premier in Round 2 and is on a seven-game winning streak. Rowville will be wary of the threat posed by Heathmont and despite only losing once this year, will not underestimate such a quality opponent. Forward Abraham Isaac had three majors for Rowville in its preliminary final last week and will need to back this performance up if Rowville is to stop the red-hot Heathmont.

UNDER-15C Lilydale clashes with Chirnside Park for the first time since Round 8, where the Falcons were too good for Chirnside Park, winning by 22 points. Lilydale cruised through the preliminary final last weekend against Wantirna South, winning by 61 points and booking its ticket to the final showdown. Conversely, Chirnside Park almost missed out on the big dance after inaccuracy in front of goal nearly cost it, just holding on to a four-point preliminary final win against Bayswater. The big threats at either end are Blake Mosca for Chirnside Park who has kicked 29 majors on the year and Nicholas Woodworth for Lilydale who has kicked 32.

UNDER-15D Glen Waverley Hawks come up against Coldstream in a first-versus-second grand final, that has seemed inevitable all year. Coldstream’s only loss of the season was at the hands of the minor premiers in the Hawks, going down in Round 9 by 14 points. Glen Waverley is hot off a 106-point victory against North Ringwood Black in its preliminary final and is going to be very hard to stop, but if any side is up to the task it’s Coldstream. Fabian Di Domenico kicked five for the Hawks last week and will be tough for Coldstream to contain as he’s kicked 48 on the year in only 11 outings.

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW - UNDER-17 UNDER - 17 PREMIER The best two sides 17 Premier has to offer face-off in a first-versus-second clash between East Ringwood Blue and Vermont. The last time the two sides met was Round 10 where East Ringwood Blue ran away 11-goal victors, but Vermont has hardly put a foot wrong since that defeat. After knocking off Blackburn Black by 22 points last week, Vermont is gearing up for another crack at the minor premiers. Vermont will need to contain East Ringwood Blue star Tyler Charlton who has kicked 38 goals this year including three last week.

UNDER - 17A In a surprise match-up, minor premier Montrose Blue will take on Mooroolbark Green after the Mustangs handed Wantirna South Green its fifth loss of the season last weekend. Montrose took care of business in Round 9 when these sides last met, winning by a convincing margin of 92 points. If the Mustangs are to pull off the upset they will need to have an answer for Montrose forward Max Hall who kicked two majors last week and took his total to 32 for the year.

UNDER - 17B Upper Ferntree Gully meets Norwood in what is one of the most anticipated grand final match-ups across the EFL. The last meeting between the two sides was an absolute classic; Upper Ferntree Gully just held on and won by three points in a high-scoring affair. That was back in Round 8 and both sides have really improved since that last outing. Comfortable wins for each team in their respective preliminary finals means both sides will be feeling fresh and raring to go in what’s sure to be a close one. Cooper Mitchell kicked four for Upper Gully last week and is in fine form.

The Eastern Footballer - EFL Junior Finals 2019

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW - UNDER-17 UNDER - 17C It was 19 points which separated the Under-17C grand finalists last time they met, minor premiers Waverley Blues got on top of that one and took the points. Can Vermont Purple get the Waverley Blues when it all counts? Recent form suggests it is a chance. Waverley Blues had a slight scare against Blackburn Red last weekend, coming out eventual winners by 13 points in a tight contest. Meanwhile Vermont Purple got the best of Chirnside Park by 28 points and looked a true contender. Cole Roberts of Vermont has been stellar of late; booting three last week, so you can be sure Waverley Blues will have a plan in place to stop him.

UNDER - 17D First-placed East Burwood plays second-placed Croydon in what’s sure to be a tough, gritty affair. It was the Rams who got the best of Croydon in the two sides’ last battle, winning by 40 points. You can bet Croydon will be better prepared this time round and will throw everything it has into spoiling the party for the minor premier. East Burwood was shaky in its preliminary final, winning by eight points against Montrose Red, while Croydon dispatched Kilsyth by four goals. Stopping East Burwood’s Jaymie Kempson will be crucial for Croydon; the forward has kicked 44 majors this year and will be looking to add to his tally.
