ER WELLNESS

EMOTIONAL WELLNESS MONTH WAYS TO CELEBRATE EMOTIONAL WELLNESS MONTH:

Indulge yourself with a massage

Treat yourself to a day of relaxation, whatever that means for you. Turn off your phone, don’t check your emails, and get a massage, schedule a spa day, or go to the beach.

Check in with a friend

Research shows that connecting with loved ones is beneficial to our health. During Emotional Wellness Month, schedule some quality time with friends. You’ll both benefit from some extra emotional support and love.

Learn a new coping skill

Do you have some go-to coping skills for when you feel overwhelmed or anxious? Take some time to develop a list of simple activities like breathing exercises, yoga, and drawing that help you calm down and selfsoothe in difficult emotional times.

Did you know your emotional well being has powerful effects on your overall health? Mental and emotional stress can translate into negative physical reactions, a weakened immune system, and poor health.

“Emotional wellness” refers to our ability to process feelings in a healthy, positive way and manage the stress of everyday life. If you feel stressed or overwhelmed, try a soothing activity like meditation or yoga to slow down and clear your mind.

Use Emotional Wellness Month as an opportunity to take charge of your emotional wellness, find the soothing activities that work for you, and, most of all, breathe!

FORT MORGAN CITY CLERK

our WORK

The City Clerk’s Office performs a variety of administrative functions related to the business of the City of Fort Morgan government, and is the official custodian of records for the city. The city clerk attends every city council meeting and takes notes to create the official minutes of each meeting and record the actions taken by the governing body.

The Clerk’s Office maintains records of everything from ordinances, resolutions, contracts and other official documents of the city to property deeds, vehicles registrations, cemetery records and correspondence

The Clerk’s Office is also responsible for conducting city elections in coordination with Morgan County; various licensing and permitting including sales tax licenses, liquor licenses, mobile food vendor permits and mobile home park licenses; and issuing news releases and managing the City’s website and social media.

Located just off the front lobby of Historic City Hall, the Clerk’s Office is often the first point of contact for members of the public looking for information about the city. Even when these visitors find they are in the wrong place for what they’re seeking, the Clerk’s Office staff goes out of their way to find answers and direct people where to find what they need.

The Clerk’s staff is also called on often by other city staff members and departments looking for answers about things that happened in the recent or distant past in the city government Providing exceptional service to both external and internal

customers” is one of the most satisfying and rewarding parts of the job

Working for the City provides an opportunity to serve the public and make the city better. We take pride in being accurate and detail oriented in our work, which more than most departments records the history of Fort Morgan

Thank you to the small City Clerk team for all they do to support the citizens of Fort Morgan!

FORT MORGAN CITY CLERK

FA

There is another Fort Morgan on the Gulf Coast in Alabama, and we occasionally get calls for them, asking things like “Do you allow dogs on your beach?” or “Can I have my wedding on your beach?”

Phone calls and voicemail messages that come through the clerk’s office are often high in entertainment value. But whether the caller is angry, intoxicated, clueless or rude, we always treat them courteously and professionally and do our best to answer their question or help solve their problem – which may not have anything to do with the city.

Did you know?

The City of Fort Morgan was incorporated on the 28th day of April, 1887.

The image to the left is the original handwritten record of this notable event. Books of minutes dating back to the 1880's are kept in the vault at Historic City Hall.

The images below show a stack of record books and the original hand drawn seal.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

ECONOMIC

&

PEPPY COFFEE

Nearly a decade and a half ago, Randy and Carrie Bernhardt had an interesting business proposal. It would take advantage of the growing popularity of the coffee shop and gourmet coffees in the United States and bring that concept to Fort Morgan. Rather than purchasing a franchise, the couple decided to create a niche drive through establishment in our community that is locally owned and operated and embodies the many valuable contributions such businesses make to our community

Peppy Coffee Company has been selected as this month’s Business of the Month recipient. Each month, this distinction is given to a Fort Morgan business that excels in such areas as pride in their business, top notch customer service, growth, active involvement in area organizations and programs, and community contributions that assist in creating a better quality of life

Best coffee in town! Friendly staff and they’re great at special requests and you don’t even have to get out of the car
Well done Peppy! Stopped yesterday while in town on business. Friendly, priced right, and tasty
We recently discovered this cute little coffee shop and it has become our go to spot. I really love their frost drinks.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

For nearly three years, the Bernhardts spent endless hours planning for its operation, securing the ideal spot on the corner of Main Street and East 9th Avenue at the entrance to town, and working with local tradesmen to erect the drive through coffee shop Randy, who grew up in Fort Morgan and graduated from Fort Morgan High School, felt that he had a good sense of what would make the venture successful. The dream came to fruition on December 6, 2008, when Randy and Carrie opened its doors after a five month construction period. It has been a popular choice for many to get their caffeine fix ever since.

In its three part mission statement emphasizing product, community service, and financial operations and growth, Peppy Coffee Company notes that it strives to make and serve products of unsurpassed quality to its customers in a fast and efficient manner The business offers everything from a light blend house coffee, to lattes, cappuccinos, frappuccinos, to espressos, hot chocolate, chai, Italian sodas, and smoothies along with baked goods to balance the huge menu of these hot and cold drinks

The business’s mission statement also comments about community service and states that its operation will succeed in a way that recognizes commitment to the community and to improving the quality of life of those in the community. Throughout its tenure, donations of product and monetary assistance have supported several nonprofit organizations with an emphasis on the youth of the community.

PEPPY COFFEE

Additionally the mission statement notes that the company will operate on a sound financial basis of profitable growth and creation of financial reward and opportunity for its employees and owners. Throughout time, the Bernhardts have trained and empowered more than 100 people to work at Peppy’s. Word continues to spread among individuals that Peppy Coffee is a great place to work at a job that serves people. The coveted positions allow the Bernhardts to employ fantastic baristas and staff who enjoy this kind of work - and it shows. The fast and friendly service is incredible garnering a 4.5 overall star rating on Yelp.

In turn, the business continues to be successful and grow in terms of product offerings, customer traffic, and reputation.
