Welcome!

MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER

With over 300 days of sunshine a year, players get the chance to enjoy nearly year-round play on the Quail Dunes Golf Course! Our talented Pro Shop staff takes pride in helping to create memorable experiences to the many golfers that utilize the course throughout the year, by providing access to equipment, apparel, instruction, and excellent customer service. The shop is over 1,200 square feet and holds everything to furnish patrons with clubs, balls, shoes, and clothing. In addition to merchandise, the Pro Shop division of Quail Dunes is responsible for green fees, carts, tournaments, rental carts, driving range, and the Junior Golf Academy Program. On average, staff hosts 25-30 tournaments and several junior golf camps. Be sure to check out the Quail Dunes website for tee time reservations, rates and a full tournament schedule. I also encourage you to look at the ‘Department Profile’ section of this newsletter to read more in-depth about their work, and please join me in thanking them for all they do. Bobstock Music Festival is July 8-9, and then Thursday Night Live concerts continue with Narrow Gauge Country on July 14, Quemando Salsa on July 21, and Still They Ride on July 28. Food vendors, live DJ, and preshows will start at 6:00 PM, and the main performance is scheduled for 7:30 PM. For more information on this exciting concert series, please visit the TNL Facebook page! Movie in the Park also continues with showings July 12 and July 26. I would also like to take a moment to highlight the wonderful variety of events offered each month by our talented staff at the Library/Museum, Senior Center and Recreation Department. You can find many of these listed in the “Upcoming Events” section of this newsletter. Lastly, I would like to remind everyone about the ongoing salary/compensation survey. We have contracted with a company to evaluate current salaries and pay scales. Please attend a briefing session, or listen to the recorded version that will be sent out via email link from Jennifer in Human Resources. Your input is crucial for the most fair and equitable survey possible.

Steve Glammeyer Welcome to a new edition of the “Message from the Manager” and City Employee Newsletter. I hope you enjoyed last month’s edition and learned a lot about our Fire Department. This month, we are profiling our Quail Dunes Golf Pro Shop. This small and energetic crew dedicate themselves to ensuring our patrons have positive experiences at our course.

As always, thank you for all you do, and please enjoy this month’s edition of the newsletter.

JULY WELLNESS

PARK & RECREATION MONTH

Wilderness is not a luxury but necessity of the human spirit. --Edward Abbey

With summer in full swing, community parks are at the center of so many memories. Our local parks are often our first experience in nature, providing us with areas of refuge to unwind and gather with friends. During the pandemic, local parks have been essential in allowing many community members to find a new appreciation for the outdoors. Every July since 1985, this month has celebrated the joys that our local, state and national parks provide. Also, the people who make their existence possible by maintaining, protecting, and improving these parks every day are imperative.

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has found numerous benefits to our parks, including the following: • Living close to parks and other recreation facilities is consistently related to higher physical activity levels for both adults and youth. • Parks provide a connection to nature, which studies demonstrate relieves stress, strengthens interpersonal relationships, and improves mental health. • Various research studies have confirmed that community parks and time outdoors are critical for creating healthy, active, and sustainable communities. • Children that have easy access to a playground are approximately five times more likely to have a healthy weight than children that do not have easy access to playgrounds. Getting involved in Park and Recreation Month is easy. Just go to www.nrpa.org/July to find posters, graphics, a media toolkit, and much more. The goal of Park and Recreation Month is to bring awareness to how much parks and recreation do for our communities. This July, if nothing else, get outside and spend some time at these great public spaces.

Ways to Stay Hydrated in the Summer Heat 1. Drink even when you aren't thirsty. For most adults it is recommended to consume 8 glasses of water a day 2. Eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in water 3. Flavor the water, if needed 4. Stay inside and dress for the climate 5. Oral hydration solutions, if necessary

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & MARKETING Love this store and the people that own it!

What a great quaint clothing store conveniently located in historic downtown Fort Morgan. Great selection of items and excellent quality. The staff is incredibly helpful. This store is definitely a gem. Will definitely be back in to shop!!! Super cute clothes and friendly staff! Clothes are very reasonable, and there is a great selection and sizes for all!

THE DRESSING ROOM

When the Fort Morgan downtown area experienced the closure of the former Diamond Vogel paint store, Diane and Karissa Schulte decided to act on the opportunity of expanding their business. While their existing business, the Flower Petaler, had carried some clothing, jewelry, purses, and other apparel items during the 12 years prior to the Dressing Room operations, the entrepreneurs decided to seize the moment, take a chance, expand their product line, and officially open the Dressing Room in 2018 at 318 Main Street.
