GREATER NEWS

A MINISTRY OF GEAT SUNDAY SCHOOL

How we Limit God's Power in our Lives!

There are several ways to limit God's power in our lives. Examples include Pride and SelfReliance, Fear and Anxiety, Unforgiveness and Bitterness, Doubt and Unbelief. Regardless of the cause, they all serve as a barrier preventing us from JESUS' ministry's full benefits. The Bible provides several examples where people's response (Pride, Doubt, Fear Unforgiveness) to God's love prevented them from fully experiencing God's Miracles and Blessings. This quarter's comments focus on Pride and Self-Reliance. When we trust in our abilities and resources more than God, we limit what God can do THROUGH US! Pride and Self-Reliance keep us from seeking God's HELP and GUIDANCE. There is very little space for God to work when we are full of PRIDE. The BIBLE instructs us to "humble ourselves under God's mighty hand so that HE may lift us at the appointed time (1 Peter 5:6). May The LORD HELP us to be all we can be in CHRIST JESUS. Amen!

Much Love in Jesus’ Name, Minister Waveney Arthur, Adult Superintendent

October – Breast CancerAwareness Month

Why do we celebrate Breast CancerAwareness Month in October?

National Breast CancerAwareness Month dates back to October 1985. This is when the first organized movement to bring attention to the dangers of breast cancer occurred in the United States. Since then, campaigns to educate the public about this disease have continued to thrive and multiply. Oct 14, 2020

(Maine, 2020)

Greater Emanuel church office staff will have literature about Breast Cancer, and items for sale in the overflow lobby. Please stop by and check out what we have available.

CLICK HERE to add your name as an endorser of the nonpartisan 40-Day Prayer Fast for a Free, Fair & Safe 2024 Election (Black Clergy and Allies)

Friends,

We are weeks away from one of America's most consequential elections, with the freedoms we enjoy through our constitutional democracy all at stake! If ever there was a time to pray and fast, that time is now!

Moses (Exodus 24:18) and Jesus (Matthew 4.2, Mark 1:13, and Luke 4:2) engaged in 40 days and nights of prayer and fasting to overcome forces of evil, like those threatening the humanity and citizenship rights of Americans of Color and other vulnerable people in the 2024 elections.

We know from our scriptures that sometimes it takes prayer and fasting to move heaven and earth! When wondering why they could not cast an evil spirit out of a boy, the disciples asked Jesus what they had done wrong. He responded, “...This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” (Mark 9:29, NKJV) In other words, fasting is one of the weapons of our warfare. We ask you to join us as Black Clergy and allies in a 40-day Prayer Fast for a Free, Fair & Safe 2024 Election. We will begin the Prayer Fast on Thursday, September 26th, through Tuesday, November 5th (ending at sundown). We invite you to fast however you can (e.g., food, social media/television, negativity, sweets, or anything that represents a sacrifice to you for a designated time each day). If you choose a food fast, please consult your physician as you need to. Remember to pray daily for our nation, the election, post-election nonviolence, and acceptance of the election results. Download the Prayer and Fast Guide 2024 for a Free, Fair, and Safe election at https://www.TurnOutSunday.com/40-day-fast

Please feel free to share this invitation with your networks. We know that it only takes two or three gathered for God to be in our midst. Imagine what heavenly power we may unleash if we join our voices in prayer in the 40 days leading up to the election! Indeed, we can move valleys of despair, obstacles of white supremacy, and mountains of injustice to become a nation of hope and healing. Let us do our part. Then, watch God work for our good and the good of our country.

Greater Recovery Ministry

The Greater Recovery Ministry is an outreach ministry that serves individuals spiritually who are fighting with the psychological, spiritual, and behavioral effects of addictions. Our Goal, through the Love of God, is to help individuals get complete deliverance from all types of addictions. Individuals will be encouraged and supported while in the recovery process. We know that Jesus has the power to set you free from alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, the internet, nicotine, co-dependency, shopping, etc.

The curriculum for the Greater Recovery Ministry is the manifested vision of our Senior Pastor, Bishop LaVelton J. Daniel. He desires to see “All Souls” receive freedom from the “World of Negative Addiction.” The Implementation of the curriculum consists of 12 Godly principles that will be discussed weekly in a support group setting by trained facilitators.

The curriculum for the youth participants will focus on drug prevention and education. If you, a family member, or a friend need support, we can schedule a day and time to meet that's convenient for you.

Two Prophets of God

Unit 1: Faithful Service of Daniel and Friends & Unit 2: Daniel’s Faithful Prophetic Ministry

September 1, 2024: LESSON 1: Daniel Honors God’s Law; Daniel 1:8-21; Teacher: Minister Maurice Henderson - The kingdom of Judah went into captivity because of the sin committed against God’s law. The deportation of Judah took place in three separate deportations. In the first deportation, Daniel and his three friends were taken to Babylon. The king commanded the palace master to feed them the best food and wine, which had been dedicated to the pagan gods of Babylon. Daniel and his friends decided they would not defile themselves with the food offered. Because Daniel trusted God, he requested that they be allowed to eat vegetables and drink water for ten days instead of the other food. The steward appointed over them, was fearful of them not looking healthy and that he would be in danger of being killed because they were not as healthy as the other youths who were eating the food given to them. God gave them favor with the steward and he allowed them to try it for ten days. God controls every situation we face; He is never surprised by our daily circumstances. Keep trusting God! Review this week's lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #76 HENDERSON (youtube.com)

September 8, 2024: LESSON 2: Daniel’s Friends Refuse to Bow; Daniel 3:1, 8-18; Teacher: Sister Sandra Wyatt – In this week's lesson Daniel’s three friends refuse to bow down to the king’s image, choosing rather to be faithful to God. They were prepared to die in obedience to God rather than to worship the false god of Babylon. We must never let public opinions/commands by leaders or anyone else cause us to bow down to the false gods of this world. God expects His people to be different from unbelievers, the Word tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:17 “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” We are never to place anyone or anything above our Lord Jesus Christ. Review this week's lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #77 WYATT - YouTube

September 15, 2024: LESSON 3: Daniel’s Friends Trust God: Daniel 3:19-28; Teacher: Pastor Linda DeBoise – This week's lesson we learn that no matter what we face, God can deliver us if we continue to trust Him. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego continued to trust God in the face of death. Whether the golden image represented the king, his kingdom, or a Babylonian deity, Daniel’s three friends refused to be a part of idolatry. Nebuchadnezzar was so furious that he commanded them to be thrown into a burning fiery furnace. They were thrown into the burning furnace with all their clothes on and when the king looked into the furnace, he saw four, not three, walking around unharmed. Whenever we find ourselves in difficult circumstances, we can be confident that the Lord is with us, just as He was with the three Hebrew boys. “Fear not, for I am with thee.” We may never be commanded to bow down to a golden image, however, we are challenged every day to compromise our faith in God, we must all know God for ourselves and be confident that He will protect us and no matter what not bow down. Review this week's lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #78 DUBOISE - YouTube

September 22, 2024: LESSON 4: Daniel Prophesies the Son of Man; Daniel 7:9-14; Teacher: Deaconess Melanie Moon – Beginning with chapter 7, the book shifts its focus from the historical narrative to Daniel’s apocalyptic visions. The prophetic portions of the book of Daniel need to be studied in conjunction with the book of Revelation. In our lesson this week, the Bible teaches us that the world will fall and give way to the everlasting rule of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will reveal Himself in all His glory. Review this week's lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #79 MOON - YouTube

September 29, 2024: LESSON 5: Daniel Sees Future Kingdom; Daniel 8:19-26; Teacher: Sister Kristin Gymiah – God gives Daniel foresight into the future destruction of other kingdoms the vision of the ram with two horns and he-goat found in Daniel 8:1-14. The Son of God directed the angel Gabriel to explain the vision to Daniel found in verses 15-27. Daniel was instructed to keep the vision private for now, and that is exactly what he did. He kept it to himself, it is important that when God gives us dreams, visions, and insight into situations we seek Him for when and how we should share whatever He has shown us. It may be for a future time and or direction for us to follow. After Daniel took some time to process, he got back to fulfilling the duties he was responsible for, and just like Daniel we too must fulfill the business we are responsible for.
