GREATER NEWS

A MINISTRY OF GEAT SUNDAY SCHOOL

Summer Quarter Comments

Preparedness!

Preparing for God’s promised return should be a priority of the church. The evidence of Jesus’ promise of return can be seen worldwide according to the events mentioned in Mathew 24:3-14; Mark 13:3-13; Lk 21:7-17. In each of these gospels, Jesus warned the apostles to “take heed that no one deceives you” (v.4; v.5; v.8). The church must be prepared for Jesus’ return. A return that bears promises of seeing Jesus’ face to face and living together with Him in eternity.

According to Oxford, preparedness is “a condition of being completely ready for something, especially war.” The devil has declared war against God’s people starting in the Garden of Eden. A war that will continue until the return of Jesus Christ. But thank the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who has equipped us with the Holy Ghost so that we can live Confidently and Obediently in this present world because “greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world.”

From a Christian perspective, Preparedness is the continuous cycle of Faithful Living in accordance with Biblical Truths. Evaluating and taking corrective action to ensure effective Godly living in Jesus’name, Amen. “Come, Lord Jesus, Come.”

Blessings in Jesus’ Name, Minister Waveney Arthur, Adult Superintendent, Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple, Department of Christian Education

Praise the Lord Sunday Schoolers:

Welcome to the Year of Our Lord 2025, a time of redemption and the opportunity to receive grace upon grace. In 2025, expect God’s abundant blessings and be grateful for the greater opportunities in your relationship with Him as He provides all you need in a life filled with hope, health, and happiness.

Despite the tests and trials, we may face this year, remember to stay focused on what truly matters. God will guide you daily, and He has always provided for His children.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Colossians 3:16-17.

Greater Emanuel Sunday School invites you to join us every Sunday, either via Zoom or in person. Our in-person classes are held at Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple, located at 1150 W. Galbraith Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, in the EJB Hall. We look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,

Greater Emanuel Sunday School

ECO TIPS

What Can You o to Bring God’s Earth Back to Its riginal State as escribed in Genesis Chapter One?

➢ Shopping

• Easy: Take reusable bags (canvas bags or reuse paper/plastic bags) when shopping.

• Challenge: Contact your local supermarket or other stores. Encourage them to minimize packaging at checkout, subsidize returnable packaging, etc.

➢ Trash

• Easy: Use a garbage bag to pick up trash and recyclables in your neighborhood.

• Challenge: Post your experience on social media or talk with others to multiply your effort.

➢ Paper

• Easy: When possible, avoid unnecessary use of paper by sending an email or text message.

• Challenge: When paper is essential, try recycled, post-consumer, acid-free note/office paper or paper from a tree farm.

➢ Drink Water

Greater

Recovery Ministry

The Greater Recovery Ministry is an outreach program dedicated to supporting individuals struggling with the psychological, spiritual, and behavioral effects of addiction. Our goal, guided by the love of God, is to help individuals achieve complete deliverance from various types of addictions. We provide encouragement and support throughout the recovery process, believing that Jesus has the power to free you from addictions such as alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, the internet, nicotine, co-dependency, shopping, and more.

The curriculum for the Greater Recovery Ministry is based on the vision of our Senior Pastor, Bishop LaVelton J. Daniel, who seeks for "All Souls" to experience freedom from the "World of Negative Addiction." The program consists of 12 Godly principles that will be discussed weekly in a support group setting, facilitated by trained leaders.

For our youth participants, the curriculum focuses on drug prevention and education. We can schedule a convenient meeting if you or someone you know needs support. Please direct all inquiries to In-House Pastor Evangelist Melvina Pounds at melvinalbs@gmail.com.

Unit 2: Biblical Feeling

July 2025

Summer Quarter Theme: Christlike Living

July 6, 2025: Lesson 6: Affection for Christ’s Church: Philippians 2:1-13: Teacher: Brother Guy Frazier: This week’s lesson focuses on the church having the mind of Christ. Paul thanked God for the church at Philippi and the Philippians. However, he was aware of interpersonal conflicts within the church. Because they are believers in Christ, they had the potential for unity. He admonished them to focus not only on their interests but to consider the interests of others. Paul urged believers to have the mind of Christ, doing nothing out of selfish ambition, and deferring to others in humility. We must have a Christlike mind, Philippians 2:5 “ et this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” We should have a godly relationship with each other and a humble attitude. Review this week’s lesson at the link GREATER NEWS #118 FRAZIER

July 13, 2025; Lesson 7: Affection for Things Above: Colossians 3:1-17: Teacher: Deaconess Melanie Moon: We are called to set our minds on things above. Jesus said to store up eternal treasures in heaven, Matthew 6:19-21 “ ay not up for yourselves, treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. 21. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” As Christians, we are identified with Christ; our lives now should reflect that. When Christ died, we died to sin; when Christ rose, we too were raised to a new spiritual life. We are to put off ungodliness and put on godliness. Paul challenged the Colossian Christians to live up to who they were in Christ Jesus. Today, this letter challenges and encourages us to live up to who we are in Christ. Colossians 3:1-4 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” Review this week’s lesson at the link GREATER NEWS #117 MOON

July 20, 2025: Lesson 8: Humility Before God: James 4:1-10, 13-17: Teacher: Minister Pam Ruffin: Having the proper attitude as a Christian is very important; the book of James emphasizes the importance of faith and works (actions). What is the relationship between our faith and our attitudes? So often, people who profess to be Christians are guilty of having a bad attitude. Does your attitude point others to Christ, or does it cause people to question if we are truly Christians? This week’s lesson taught us that God wants to use humble people and rely on Him for everything. We are to shun worldly behavior, submit ourselves to God, and seek His will in our life.

Unit 3: Biblical Doing

July 27, 2025: Lesson 9: Be Doers of the Word: James 1:19-27: Teacher: Minister Waveney Arthur: The book of James has sometimes been compared to the book of Proverbs since both books teach us about wisdom. The facts are that understanding the grace needs to be evident in a child of God. The principle is to see that being an honest Christian requires more than mere profession application to demonstrate that one truly knows the Lord by living a changed life devoted to Christ. We are to listen carefully, to be hearers and doers of the world. We, as believers, are to bury the old nature and its habits and live as a new person in Christ. In the times we live in, with social media and texting, it can be easy to misinterpret the meaning of words. In conversations, we often respond before the other person has had a chance to finish speaking. James 1:19 tells us to be “swift to hear, slow to speak;” verse 22 says, “be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” We need to listen before we speak and react!
