Master of It All The best of the best! Meet Oklahoma’s leading orthopedic hand and upper extremities surgeon, Robert Unsell.
Since early childhood, Dr. Robert Unsell had an extreme curiosity for mechanics. His constant inquisitiveness for fixing things translated into his passion for orthopedic surgery. He relates hand surgery to fine mechanics because that’s the simplest explanation he can give for the art of his skillset: making bodies work again. His broad area of expertise varies from fixing the elbow down to the tips of fingers to migraine treatments to treating venomous spider bites. Dr. Unsell began the journey of orthopedic surgery 30 years ago and has since grown to be Oklahoma City’s leading orthopedic hand and upper extremities surgeon. He and his team specialize in treating hand, thumb, elbow, and bicep disorders and provide relief from the debilitating effects of arthritis. He presents a landmark 98% success rate of effectively treating migraines and provides complete sports medicine care for amateur and professional athletes, including hand, bicep, and elbow procedures. He was involved with the training of 35 hand fellows, 15 of whom now hold academic teaching positions. Other than orthopedics, the practice offers many modalities, most uniquely removing toxic venom from spider bites. Dr. Unsell uses a low voltage to put EKG electrodes across a bite to change the toxin’s chemical structure and deactivate it. This procedure only requires a few treatments, rather than numerous surgeries that leave a significant scar, and can be performed on any part of the body at any age. His youngest visitor was a one-year old baby who didn’t shed a tear.
